Brett came out to discuss the scope of work I wanted to do. He was punctual, professional and easy to talk to. I am not having the work done, but not because of this company. I have never had a landscape overhaul and was not prepared for how much it would cost. I will have to re-think the whole thing, but did want to review Tolly Landscape for their time and effort.

They removed our in ground spa, tore out our existing landscaping, including some large tree roots and replaced everything with drought tolerant landscaping. It looks great now and it is very low maintenance. Both Jeff and Brent were great to work with and their crew was exceptionally hard working. They were a pleasure to work with.

My husband and I couldn't be happier with the services provided by Jeff Tolly, and his brother Brett. They exceeded every expectation we had, and if we could give them a grade higher than 'A', we would. They designed a beautiful front walkway that could be featured in a magazine, and is the envy of our neighbors. Everyone, from the owner of the company (Jeff), to the workers who promptly showed up every morning, took great pride in their work. The team worked hard, was professional, communicated well, and cleaned up every day when they left. Jeff was on the job site every day, making sure we were 100% satisfied with the work being done. He offered suggestions and solutions to problems like a sagging arbor over the garage, even though that was not part of the original bid. Jeff scored major points with my husband for making a special trip to the BBQ store to check out the specs of our new BBQ (which hadn't yet been delivered), to ensure he got the right gas hose. All the glowing reports on Angie's List are 100% accurate. This was, hands down, the best experience we've ever had with a landscape design company.
Description of Work: Landscape front walkway, remove gate, new sod in backyard, replace old sprinkler system, repair cracks in brick, add gas hose for BBQ, repair arbor over garage. You name it, Tolly did it.

Great! I highly recommend Jeff (Tolly Landscape) to anyone looking for great service at a great price! Jeff was very professional, easy to work with and solved the problem quickly. I had had two prior electricians come and they just temporarily fixed the problem and charged me a lot of money. Jeff correctly fixed it and charged me a fair price
Description of Work: Jeff came and diagnosed and fixed an issue I was having with my outside fountain. Not only did he come to tell me what was wrong, he fixed it immediately! It involved a few trips to get a pump and some electrical equipment but he did it

We did not receive the proposal.
Description of Work: Brett arrived early for our appointment. He was very knowledgeable regarding our needs for our outdoor lighting repairs. He told us when he left he would be sending us a proposal shortly. It has now been a week and no proposal. I have called and left messages. No response. I don't know what happened, but this is no way to run a business.

I LOVED them. They were absolutely prompt, performed all work beautifully, cleaned up at the end of every day, and were courteous and responsive. I felt that Jeff Tolly, owner, really cared about doing a good job and was personally an honorable guy. He was extremely knowledgeable about the plants in the garden, offered good suggestions and was willing to go above and beyond what the job called for. He performed more than was expected of him for the price we agreed upon, when he said he would do it. In short, he did what he said he would do, when he said he would do it and he did it well. I called some of Tolly's references before I started the job and I had never heard such glowing reports, which is the main reason I selected them. I found the reports to be completely accurate and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Tolly Landscape removed an in-ground spa, filled in the area with dirt and covered it with flagstone and brick to match existing patio areas. They removed all plumbing and electrical associated with the spa, planted new trees and staked existing trees. They also installed a new drip irrigation system.

I had a positive experience working with Jeff Tolly. I chose them for their professionalism and enthusiasm to earn the business. He is very knowledegable about horticulture and took the time to educate me and my wife. He accommodated our requests and made sure we were happy with the finished product. I got three quotes and Tolly was in the middle. Our yard is now a standout in the neighborhood.

Jeff and his crew showed up on the agreed upon day. it was the week after Thanksgiving and we knew we had big drainage issues that we had to have corrected before a major rain. Jeff's crew worked long days to get everything done before the large rainstorm in mid December. they had the concrete truck at the house at 6:30 am and got all of the work finished before the storm hit late that night. We would have had water intrusion if this work did no get done correctly. Very pleased and will use Tolly again for additional projects.
Description of Work: removed a large amount of soil, removed a 50 foot walkway that was poured above the foundation line. installed drains in the back of the property, in front of the back side of the house and all along the side walk way. re-poured the walkway, poured 2 additional concrete pads, reset the air conditioner, cored the drains to the curb on both sides of the house

My house is on a lower grade than my neighbors, and I've had a history of soil saturation during prolonged heavy winter rains. I'd eliminated pooling of surface water, but to protect my house from groundwater, I needed a French drain (buried perforated pipe surrounded by gravel) across my back and side yards with exit to the street. Tolly was a pleasure to work with. While other companies tried to sell me on their broader services, Jeff and his team directly addressed my current drainage concerns. The job took 4 days. The work crew arrived promptly and cleaned up every day, worked hard but carefully, and were curtious and responsive to my questions and suggestions. Before digging the trench and installing the pipe, they saw cut a path across two cement patios, and after install repaired the patios with rebar, brick and mortar (looks good). And after the job was completed, they followed up to get my feedback and to make sure I was satisfied. Until we get another real wet winter, I won't know for sure how much my new drain helps, but I'm happy with the work Tolly has done, and will not hesitate to use them for future landscaping jobs.

This project was completed last year, roughly December 2013, though, as noted my last contact concerned some guidance and small sprinkler head mitigation, with a few re-plantings of dead plants more than a half year after project completion. Let me start by saying that Jeff is a great guy who is very able along with his guys and had good input in the beginning of the project. The yard looks really good, especially the back and I get compliments on the front occasionally by neighbors passing by. We wanted a xeriscape front and back, though the front has more of this look, with decomposed granite as the basic softscape. There is no sod, which is awfully nice. The tear out went swimmingly and I did not envy his guys having to tear out the gigantic junipers along the drive. Overall I am very happy with the outcome, and I would recommend Jeff Tolly and his services any day. Really very good overall, and when he was onsite, he is engaging and extremely down to earth guy. Couple minor issues: I have a little reticence about the overall communication of what was going on and follow up with things like weeds and some of the inevitable dead plants replacement. I really need and appreciate very consistent communication with projects and I was left a little wanting in this regard occasionally, relying on the LA to bridge the gap long after the project had technically been completed. So I could have used more consistent communication with my many questions, especially once things were finished. Jeff warranted the larger plants for a year, I believe, and some were replaced. I have since had to replace a few more, as a few more handfuls of plants have gone to Jesus. In replacing some of these, it appears that some still retained the shape of the original pot. No idea if that contributed to their demise. Also, most of the plants are doing quite well, especially in the back. The front has some continuing issues, including a major section of ground cover that has never taken off, some of which might revolve around the sprinkler set up, as one section of the front yard is laid waste by the sun against the house, and another out from under our huge carob tree. More than half of the yard plants including at least two of the replacement plants have died again. Also, most of the central ground cover was replaced with something else, per our LA, but it too has failed to take off much. It has me wondering whether the lay out of the sprinkler zone should have had those sections separate to mitigate the searing sun. Jeff recommended going with sprinklers versus a drip system so that the plants could be established well with regular water before being allowed to go it with less overall. I'm sure given the nature of the planting/design this was the way to go, but have lingering doubts due to the weeds that also thrive all over. Some issues with below grade sprinklers with the DG and being covered up here and there, and I have since noticed a few strange sprinkler head locations relative to the planting (as in right up against--which with a year's growth is essentially up against a plant. On the plus, the bubbler is a minor work of art that truly appealing and minimal cost. The plant stand is also really very lovely. On the weed front, there have been some incursions, and I do not know whether this is more or less than it would have been with better cover/prep beforehand. Previous plants that were removed are coming up in back. One plant seems to produce weed-like offspring all around. Strangely persistent on both counts, both Roundup resistant. Could the one have been mitigated in the demo? I don't know. I did a fair amount of research on landscaping/ideas, etc. before wandering into this rather large project, but I was still not prepared for the issues that probably could have been noted and mitigated beforehand (like our evil though beautiful carob tree in front, which rains down pods and stuff throughout the year into the once pristine front, and the semi-evil loquat tree in the back which does the same with fruit and leaves and I should have included on the hit list when the demo was happening). The yards are a bit more labor intensive than I would have liked upon completion and further reflection, but that is not really the landscaper's fault. I always hope that with each contractor's expertise common pitfalls are mentioned since they see them all the time. It was quite overwhelming overall. One just cannot think of it all, especially when yard things are not really your bag. After the weeds started in, there was follow up with Roundup, but I did not realize it until I happened upon Jeff's uncle in the yard one day. He gave me quite a bit of information and technique (!) as we talked and I wished that I had had some of this beforehand and had known he had been coming around (I would not have felt as much communication gap, in other words). Really, quite helpful and super friendly and knowledgeable. Just little stuff like this preyed upon my mind. I am a bit of a detail oriented worry wart, it must be said. This seems like a mixed review, I suppose, but I think I might be more finicky than the average client, so any reader should probably take this into account. The communication issue is quite a common one for all contractors, I find and I began feeling a bit self conscious about my questions and informational seeking, as I did not want to be taking advantage when further work was not reasonable to expect. Overall, the work proceeded at a reasonable pace, his workers didn't leave anything weird, nor did we have any inconvenience other than what was to be expected when one is pouring concrete and such. Jeff does all aspects of the install, including some electrical that was added for a small hot tub. All in good order. I really must emphasize that if you have anything that requires an artistic flair, you should think of Jeff in particular (water feature, etc), as even my small creation came out great with little but my verbal input. Nothing fancy, but natural and understated, just as I had wanted. I imagine if you want something similar or more of a major center piece, Jeff is your guy. Plus, he is a very straight forward fellow to deal with and I feel I got a square and honest service for what was a substantial make over of our previously post-apocalyptic yard. It is amazing how it looks after only a year, I must say.
Description of Work: Jeff Tolly (owner), along with his landscape architect (who I have reviewed separately), came out, assessed my needs/desires for a full tear out and landscape of front and backyards. Per my request he submitted a broken out plan/quote based on the plan/input from the LA, who was hired in conjunction, but contracted separately. That way I could decide what we could or would afford to take on with the project. This was extremely helpful. We ended up just doing everything. Jeff and his team installed additional matching hardscape (concrete), planting, softscape, sprinkler system, small bubbler feature, and redwood plant stand/arbor. Quote and subsequent work included tear out of dead/old year including 10 half century old Italian junipers, a couple trees, dead lawn and miscellaneous other plants going away. Also cleared a back section of yard of debris revealing some old uneven concrete.

Went very well. Jeff, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. He was there every day with a smile on his face. Other workmen were also quite pleasant. Great care was take to get the measurements correct and to smooth out the pad. Am considering him for other jobs. The only part I considered a bit overpriced was wrapping the stainless chains around the trees. The chains costs a total of $100 and the work took about 1.5 hours for two men (I was watching), so the $500 he charged seemed a bit much. Since this was such a small part of the total, I did not figure it into his total grade for "Price".
Description of Work: Removed large area of grass and dirt, poured 12 x 10 concrete heavy grade pad to be used for custom shed, covered surrounding area with brick, brick stepstones, medium rocks, and gravel. Also wrapped stainless adjustible chain around existing multi-trunk palm trees to prevent them from falling over.

Brett Tolly originally came out to provide the quote and he was very pleasant and professional and did not try to up sell us. Even on things we thought we might want he did not go for the extra dollars but told us honestly what we didn't need to do. We live in a pretty strict HOA so we were limited on what we could do and the method to do it but i talked to Jeff about this and he assured me that Tolly Inc could do the job and stay within the guidelines we were given by the HOA. We hit a couple of small bumps in the road but Jeff was very responsive and quick to make it right. The walkway looks beautiful and we are the envy of our neighbors. Even our Board President complimented the work and the professionalism of Jeff and his crew. It is a small walkway and it cost us more than we anticipated but worth the investment because it really adds to the curb appeal of the house. Thanks Jeff, Brett and crew!

This is a great outfit. Jeff is very responsive for quoting and arrived when he said he would every time he came out to the site. The crew was professional and respectful and their work was excellent. Steve was our foreman and we really liked him. We had some scope creep (our decisions) during the week the Tolly crew was on site and Steve handled everything with a wonderful attitude. The crew was on site for 5 days which is exactly the amount of time they said it would take to complete. A couple of weeks after the grass was planted they came back within minutes of me calling about a clogged sprinkler. I wish every home improvement project went this well.
Description of Work: We landscaped the backyard of our home. They demoed the old lawn and sprinkler system. I had them dig it up and haul it away. I did not want to chemically kill the old lawn as we have dogs and the chemicals are toxic. They also installed all new sprinklers and controls. They hooked up my front yard sprinkler system to the new system so I could have one controller for the entire house. They created mow strips all around the sides of the yard (to contain the new grass). They removed a dead tree (baby tree that never made it) with a nice new tree. They planted about 2000 sq ft of St Augustine grass sod with soil amendments. They also fixed some electrical issues I had in order to hookup the new irrigation controller.
