OC Decks- Water Proofing Systems

Sharon and Ed Kim's team are exceptional find. They are professional, punctual, transparent, honest, reliable and get the job done. My window washer stepped through my planter at my Manhattan Beach home and El Nino did a number on my kitchen and master bedroom. Sharon and Ed understood the seriousness of the damage, executed their estimate promptly, showed concern for me as a homeowner, and delivered a quote to me within a couple of days. Once I signed the contract with a very reasonable price , they scheduled me into their system right away. The job started last Wednesday and was completed today. Their employee was polite, caring, a hard worker, knowledgeable and demonstrated pride in his work. Sharon called me numerous times to make sure I was happy and I could not be more happy with the waterproofing system that they installed. There is no question that OC Decks will receive all of my work in the future when it comes to deck restoration and preservation. I am a very satisfied and happy customer of this great company. Ed and Sharon and crew are great to work with. Our deck is also the roof to 2 of the rooms in our house. We have had a number of water intrusion problems over the years. One day after the new deck was completed we had 2 days of heavy rain. We are happy to report that our deck is now water tight. We decided to go with OC Decks not only because of their excellent reviews but we also wanted a company that did the whole job from start to finish. They did the fascia replacement, sliding door pan, new wood risers for the stairs, new 7 layer deck system, stucco work, painting, etc. All of the other decking companies we talked to did not do it all. We decided not to repair our wood deck railing because it was too badly damaged. Instead we are getting new metal railing installed. Ed and Sharon even recommended the company that is doing that for us. It was a very positive experience.

OC Decks did a great job on our deck. All their workers were polite, professional, cleaned up each evening, and did an outstanding job. The job took around 7 work days but they had to come back 2 weeks later to finish installing the wall cap. We decided not to use the cement wall cap we originally agreed to because when we saw it, it was too heavy for our decking. Ed recommended a store in Orange County that made wall caps with stone but the inside had styrofoam in it. This made the stone much lighter than the cement and you had several colors to choose from. So once the product was ordered and produced, the team came back to finish the job. We could not be happier with the job and the employees at OC Decks (including Sharon, Ed, and Yoland their Office Admin). If you want a quality job, call OC Decks.

Sharon and Ed Kim and their crew were incredibly professional, detailed, hard-working and responsive. This was a very large job to remove, repair and replace existing failed, leaking and rotted roof, balcony and french door thresholds in a home that we purchased. The crew and foreman (Miguel) were experienced, well-organized, hard-working and pleasant. Everything that they did was above the industry requirements and standards. They were responsive to our requests and concerns, and were willing to modify or redo portions of the job that we had any concern about. One of the most impressive things about OC Decks was that they took full ownership and responsibility for our property, even when confronted by an "act-of-nature". In the middle of our project, we were hit by 2 days of monsoonal, torrential rains in the middle of the summer. The OC Deck teams work heroically late into the night to cover and caulk the entire 1700 sq. ft. roof with plastic sheeting. Unfortunately, even that eventually leaked and we had substantial interior damage to ceilings and walls from water running in and soaking "drywall". Sharon and Ed stepped up and either had their crew make the required repairs without charge or credited us for repairs and painting that we needed to have done by other contractors. Perhaps our only complaint was that they had other large jobs going at the same time, so we sometime had only a couple of workers instead of the whole crew and that considerably stretched out the length of the job. We recommend Sharon and Ed Kim and their crew to anyone.

I did not know OC before this project or know anyone who had used them. My experience was excellent and my rating is 5 out of 5 stars. They cared about my opinion and making sure I was pleased with all details. They took their time to ensure each detail was perfect even if they had to stay late or return. All aspects we're completed to a very high quality and precision. And most importantly I found them fair and honest.

They were very professional. They applied many layers of underlay and decking material. The decks look beautiful. Plus they repaired stucco on the side of my house which had buckled due to the leaking of the old deck.

I wish I could rate these guys, but they never called me back after my inquiry. As a business owner myself I find it bizarre that many contractors act like they don't want my business. Bizarre! If a potential customer calls me I do everything I can to get back to them asap! Lastly, I'm not usually the person to post negative feedback, but I guess you would like to know my experience to improve, so here you go.

Our deck was in really bad shape so they had to take it down to the studs and rebuild it. Pooling water was an issue with the old deck but we do not have that problem now. They had to replace some rotted wood on the side of the house but they matched the paint and it looks really nice. We now have a very solid deck, it looks beautiful and water does not pool up anymore. We are very pleased with their work as everything was done one time and as agreed. This was a most pleasant contractor experience!

They never bothered to provided a quote after saying it should be ready in 3 days, but 2 weeks later no contact! Just wasted my time.No email, phone call, or even Angieslist message.

The repair on my balcony went very well. I moved in a couple years ago and I don't think there were any improvements with the balcony since it was built in 1979. It looks great now...a 1000 times better. Great work. The workers were very punctual and cleaned up each night before they left.

Crew arrived on time, completed work in timely manner. Quality was excellent and cleanup performed well.

7-19 Everything went like clock work, they were here on the appointed time and very courteous people. They finished the job in a couple of days. Tore out the old deck and replaced it with a new one.

OC Decks was great. They came out on time for the appointment. They followed up and showed up on time when the job began and everyday thereafter. The owners were intimately involved from the first quote to the first day when the crews showed up on time. The work was meticulous and the deck looks great. I was super impressed by the painstaking details as they went through each layer of the process. The price was very fair -- given how much time was put into this little deck, I wondered a bit how they could make money at it. I definitely would recommend them.

I hired OC Decks because when I called for an estimate and Myriam had them call me right back, scheduled a time and Sharon and Ed Kim gave me a very thorough explanation of the scope of the job and were willing to do the extra's that I wanted such as replacing the wood railing atop the wrought iron rail and replacing a door on a water heater closet on the deck, this was outside the normal scope of their business. They also provided a complete breakdown of the work and cost which was very reasonable for all the work done. They removed a leaking second story deck and replaced it with a correctly graded deck. Also did the extra work that I wanted to perfection. Miguel who led the team was professional, the guys cleaned up every evening, communicated with me each step of the way. They worked long hours and completed each faze daily. The job required removing the old deck, the railing, replacing the fascias, sealing and painting all the wood there. Then doing the deck and putting every thing back,with out any problems. This was no easy task because below the deck was a Glass Greenhouse which they took great care to protect. It suffered no damage, which points to the care given to each detail of the job. Overall, this was a great experience, they did the job right the first time and in a very timely manner because of the dedication to detail and the outstanding work done by their crew. I would highly recommend them.

I have a 1000 square foot wrap around deck on an upper floor of a condo building. When I bought the place, the view was spectacular but the deck was a disaster. It had a huge elevated built-in koi pond, a gazebo, and a large concrete outdoor kitchen, all built upon a cheap epoxy deck material. I knew it had to be redone, but I kept putting it off because I could not fathom how everything could be demo'd and carried through my home and out of the condo building. I was very concerned about the inconvenience and possible safety issues involving my neighbors. I had done a lot of research and decided it was finally time to pull the trigger... Enter Sharon and Ed of OC Decks.....they responded to my call immediately and set up an appointment within a couple of days, graciously accommodating my busy work schedule. Ed is to decks what Michaelangelo is to ceilings--he has a great eye and is truly an artist--he immediately assessed my deck, listened carefully to what I thought I wanted, and then suggested some other ideas that were much better than mine. He exudes confidence and professionalism in his work, and completely allayed all my fears over big blocks of concrete accidentally falling from my deck during the demo and injuring people or damaging property. And Sharon is amazing as well! She is responsible for the day to day details and supervision of the job, and her organizational skills are superb. She was always readily available for questions and responded to me immediately. I have friends who have had terrible experiences with contractors just not showing up, or stopping mid-job for a few days to go to another site....with Sharon it was the opposite. The crew was there every morning, worked more than an 8-hour day, and Sharon even called me to ask if it was okay if they worked on Saturdays! Miguel was the crew foreman, and he was wonderful, leaving my place immaculate every day. The whole crew was very friendly and professional. I was at work every day, but one of my neighbors was watching the progress of the work from her deck, and she said she never saw a crew work so hard and tirelessly. When I decided to go for a more expensive color finish right before the end of the job, Sharon brought her amazing color specialist over, and he did 12 custom mockups for me to choose from. The crew then went right back to work, despite the challenges that must have presented to Sharon's meticulous scheduling on the other jobs they had. The end result---a beautiful deck that I absolutely love! Working with Sharon and Ed was one of the best experiences I have ever had with a contractor, and I have worked with several. I know I got MORE than my money's worth. They both have a lot of integrity, are very honest and hard-working. On a personal level, they are very friendly, approachable, and easy-going. I never had a moment's worry about anything once I hired them. I have already referred them to several friends. I only wish I had more decks for them to do! THANK YOU OC DECKS! A++++++++++++

Everything was done very swiftly. Most of all the quality is solid. They know what they are doing period. The only hiccups was getting the permit.

For starters, when I called for an estimate Sharon called me back, scheduled a time and came promptly. They also provided a complete breakdown of the work and cost. Miguel who lead the team was professional, the guys cleaned up every evening, were very careful of my nearby vegetable garden, and communicated with me each step of the way. My neighbors even commented on the professionalism. The job required replacing damaged support beams which they properly sistered to the exising beams. And the sealed all the wood. When I asked them to add insulation, they did so at a minimal additional cost. Overall, this was a great experience, when I need other damaged wood replaced before painting, I will definitely hire OC Decks. They do the job right.

OC Decks Owner and assistant did a good job of quoting the project to finish the Patio construction and do wood protection. The patio was new with lots of exposed wooden posts, roofing connections and needed to be brought up to good construction standard. The project was started on time and was staffed by dedicated employees and closely supervised by the owner of OC Decks. While working through all the various upgrades, many issues were discovered that compromised the structural strength. OC Decks and their workers took care of these issues as they were discovered. I was very pleased to have these problems corrected without complaint or contract modifications. Always communicated promptly and did beginning, mid project and final inspections. Very impressed with their knowledge and professional/technical skills.

The job was completed on time as scheduled and work was always performed in a professional manner. Work site was always left clean at the end of the work day and the two main workers, Lorenzo and Mario were pleasant, efficient, personalities and excellent craftsmen. Ed and Sharon Kim, the owners, came on the last day to inspect the completed project and were pleased. Ed Kim had made the original job estimate and proposal which did not change on completion.

They came out and inspected the deck and discussed the problems they saw, and provided potential options to address the issues. They subsequently sent me a proposal for 3 options, each of which I thought was reasonably priced (I obtained a few quotes). They discovered some of the support beams were also bad and brought those to may attention - they ended up replacing those as well. They definitely know what they are doing. All in all, they did a great job. They were responsive and performed really good work from the removal of the old deck, the "building" of the new deck, painting all surfaces, and removing rust from and repairing an old spiral staircase. I would definitely recommend OC DECKS. The entire staff was very professional and detail-oriented.

Ed and his crew were great to work with. Ed came out to inspect and subsequently sent me a Proposal - which I thought was fairly priced. Ed subsequently made my requested clarifications/addition to the Proposal (i.e., start date; dimensions of replacement cap-rail). His crew arrived on time on the first day (and every day). They worked all day, every day and never interrupted me unless a critical question arose (which I appreciated since I was working at home). His crew showed-up every day without fail and actually finished a day earlier than anticipated. They did find additional wood rot in one vertical post and adjoining 2" x 2" horizontal boards, so additional work was necessary. OC Decks sent me an Change Order describing the additional work and costs - which I found to be fair. Luis and the other gentleman (I can't recall his name) did an excellent job replacing just the top six inches of one 6" x 6" vertical post (the joint is barely noticeable). They filled-in all the gaps with silicone. They painted all the wood surfaces of the balcony's railing and adjoining fascia board (they had the paint matched to the color of my white composite cap-rail. They sprayed to kill fungus on adjoining eves and facia board. They replaced the cap-rail (railing) with my requested "composite" board (waterproof). They painted my balcony's deck/membrane with a deck-paint of my choosing. They added an Acrylic Membrane to the lower four inches of each vertical post to prevent rain water from seeping under the deck membrane into my family room below. I had originally intended to do the work myself, but I'm glad I didn't because OC DECKS did so much more work than I thought there was to do (you never know how far wood rot goes until you start pulling apart the wood railing). OC DECKS didn't just replace my railing - they found fungus and wood rot that I wasn't aware of. They spent a lot of time eliminating the candle wax that had melted onto the deck membrane. I'm very happy with the work they did. Although I can't closely inspect the paint (for missed spots or streaks) until the paint dries in 48-72 hours, it looks excellent from what I can see from my window and from outside. I DEFINITELY recommend OC DECKS. Ed Kim, his wife Sharon, Myriam in the office, and Luis and his fellow-worker were all very professional and detail-oriented. I'm a perfectionist by nature, so I don't often write such great reviews, but this review is warranted in this case.

Ed came out and we talked at length about the process and different types of products offered and I'm so glad I listened to him and went with Trex! It looks Gorgeous and has really transformed our little outdoor area. His crew were on-time, courteous and very neat. Always left the work area clean, which I really appreciated. Would highly recommend!
