He had less "flash" (ie no slick brochures and printouts), he was just very straightforward and honest as to his services and experience. The product he sells and installs is on par with other furnaces from other vendors. Great job done on the day of installation. Crew was on time, cleaned up after themselves (often this is overlooked!). During the job I was asked to look at the various stages of completion, nice to have that happen... Gary kept in contact with me as the city inspector could not come out for several days. he scheduled the inspection and followed up with city inspector on the day of to determine what time I needed to be home. All in all excellent service and I would highly recommend him.

He clearly explained the work that should be done along with the cost before he started. The work was completed promptly. Gary is very professional, courteous, prompt and an excellent communicator.

+ -1 moreThe whole process, which took place over three days, went very smoothly. The owner, Gary, was present for most of the work and we had excellent communication. His workers were punctual, neat and worked late in order to finish the job. The price was fair, and Gary did not try to up sell me on the furnace size or manufacturer. We got exactly what we needed in a timely fashion with little inconvenience to us. I would use Gary again in a hot second for any other heating/AC needs. On a final note, he placed a follow up call to me a day later to make sure that everything was working properly. I really appreciated that.

+ -1 moreVery satisfactory. Got a problem which had not been accurately diagnosed by other companies resolved and fixed a marginal situation to our complete satisfaction. I thought the price was a trifle high initially but the results justified the costs. Overall the house is more comfortable now and both furnace systems are functioning in a satisfactory manner.
Description of Work: I had two problems- one high priority and one that was an improvement rather than repair. The high priority situation was a furnace system that would heat on initial startup, but then restart and blow only cold air. The furnace would then have to be unplugged to shut it down and plugged back in to run. Two other heating companies had seen the problem last year and had only suggested that too many registers in the house were not completely open. This seemed to resolve the problem but this occurred at the end of the cold season and the problem returned this year. The Air Vista repairman reviewed the problem and initially suggested replacing the control unit. This matched my own earlier impressions of the situation, but the problem was not resolved when the unit was replaced. The repairman did additional testing and identified two possible sources of the problem, one of which we were able to test and eliminate the same day. This left the gas control valve which was intermittently failing and the repairman replaced it. This resolved the problem. The repairman left the new control unit in, but later swapped our old one back in and retested. We were charged only for labor and the replaced gas valve. Given that two other companies had completely misdiagnosed the problem we were happy to find someone knowledgeable and persistent enough to identify the real problem and successfully repair the furnace. He also made minor changes to the directions of the registers, which considerably improved air flow throughout the area served by the repaired furnace. In addition to this, we discussed a problem with our second furnace system which serves a second floor master bedroom/bath and the first floor living room. Too much heat was going to the bathroom and not enough to the bedroom or the first floor. After inspecting the system in the attic, the repairman suggested swapping the ducts to the two areas (the ducting to the bathroom was much too large and the single duct to the bedroom and living room too small). We also agreed that the thermostat for the system was misplaced in the living room, and decided to move it to the master bedroom. The repairman scheduled another visit to correct the problem, brought out an assistant and had both the duct exchange and the thermostat relocation done in about two hours. The change made a huge improvement. All in all we were highly satisfied with the work of Air Vista.

+ -1 moreI found lots of liquid in my hallway near our a/c vent, so checked Angie's List for a/c repair recommendations. Air Vista's reviews stood out for promptness, efficiency and cost, so I left a message on Gary's machine. Gary called back within 5 minutes - and was at my house within an hour after that. That, alone, puts Gary above 95% of service providers. I had read several other positive reviews on Angie's List, but was concerned about those that listed "repair" yet almost all reports showed new systems in the thousands of dollars. I'm sure they were great if a new system was desired or needed, but we wanted to trust someone to be honest and just repair the problem if that was all that was needed. Gary is that guy. THANK YOU SO MUCH, GARY, and THANK YOU TO ALL THE ANGIE'S LIST subscribers for helping me find just the right person for our job!
Description of Work: Gary located the problem (clogged drain line), cleaned out the blocked piping and installed fitting that made the pipes easily removable for future cleaning by us. He then installed an electric water sensor that will automatically shut off a/c should the pipes get blocked again so the liquid won't flood again into the house, allowing us to save future repair expenses by cleaning out pipes ourselves should the a/c shut off. Gary replaced the soaked filter with a new one we had, then cycled and tested the system to make sure it was working properly.

+ -1 moreThe Ac had not been operating for a number of days only to have the temp rising. I called a number of AC techs and Gary was the only one that called me back and was more than willing to come out the same day. He was able to fit me into his filled schedule when some of the others did not even bother to return my call. Even after he encountered heavy traffic due to a local fire, he still progressed until he made it to our home. He got right to checking everything on the unit. I thought that for sure because we had an older unit that it was going to either very expensive to fix or be told we had to replace it. I was music to my ears when he said it would be $160 to get the unit up and running again. Even after my husband asked him if we needed a new unit, his response was that if it was working well that there was no need to invest the money into a new one at this time. He was very knowledgeable, took the time to explain things, and advised us about how to determine when it would be time to refill the unit with free-on again. I was dreading calling anyone out and was very pleased with the service, responsiveness, and even cost. I would recommend Gary and his company.
Description of Work: My AC had stopped working. Gary came by and checked all the various components and determined that we were out of free-on. He filled our unit with 3 lbs of free-on and checked it again. It worked perfect.

+ -1 moreGary came out promptly at 4pm (no time range, which was good). He found that the unit was down 4 pounds of freeon so he refilled it within a half hour and was done. A/C works great now. $70 for the home visit and $20 per pound of freeon. Used him in December for heater and he discovered the only problem was dirty filter.
Description of Work: Air conditioning was not blowing cold air. Needed freeon.

He conveniently and promptly came to give an estimate, and arranged for a new furnace. After it was installed, I accidentally reprogrammed the thermostat and he was immediately available by phone to tell me what to do (He even offered to come back, if needed).

+ -1 moreI could not be more pleased. I liked the fact that this is Gary's business - he comes out and provides an estimate and he also does the work. While they were here, they noticed that another vent on my roof had lost its cover. They brought it to my attention and said they could put the necessary cover on it (and they never charged a dime for this). This simply showed conscientiousness to me and was greatly appreciated. Gary filled out all the detailed rebate forms for me and after I submitted them, there was one piece of information missing on one of them. I emailed Gary with the response from the manufacturer requesting clarification on the form and within two hours, Gary had made the correction, faxed the updated paperwork to the manufacturer and emailed me back. (This all happened after 5:00pm to boot.) That's awsome customer service if you ask me! I am extremely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend Air Vista.
Description of Work: I had Gary replace my 20 year old heater and air conditioner. Don't let the price scare you. When I had this done, there were serveral rebates and a tax incentive. This allowed me to upgrade the furnace to a variable speed model. I received a total of $2,250 in rebates and a $1,500 tax credit.

+ -1 moreThe owner ( sorry forgot his name) answered the line and took my call. He asked if he could come by first thing in the AM and I said that would be great. Upon his arrival he promptly gave me more then a fair price for what needed to be done. I then left for work with my mother-in-law at home with the baby and when I returned the kitchen.....I swear just like the commercial was cleaner then when I left. There was contruction debris from the previous day and even though they were not his nor his problem he cleaned them up. What a treat and a great little gesture to come home to a clean kitchen and a vent that was moved professionally and reasoanbly.

He gave me options and, after discussing it with him by telephone, I decided to get a Trane XV95 furnace. That model is 95% efficient and has a variable speed fan. It's pretty quiet, which is important to me because the furnace is in a closet in the middle of our house, near our television. Gary is very knowledgeable about heating and a/c. He's very friendly and he has a knack for explaining complicated subjects to non-experts. He worked very hard throughout the day. He was very careful not to dent my roof. He had to crawl through the attic, which I'm sure was no fun at all, but he never complained and always maintained a cheerful attitude. His craftsmanship is top drawer. Even the city's inspector praised Gary's work.
Description of Work: I had a 42-year-old natural gas furnace replaced. This required removal of the old furnace and installation of the new one, of course. Per city code the electrical outlets were replaced with an on/off switch. A small pump was installed alongside the furnace. The pump removes water that the furnace takes out of the air. That water goes through a line that feeds through the attic and into a PVC pipe that was installed on one side of the house. The pipe ends in a small, covered gravel pit that had to be dug. The gas connection at the furnace was replaced with new piping and a new valve. A new duct was created and installed for the warmed air. A blanket of insulation was wrapped around it. A new thermostat was installed in a better location than the old one is in. All members of my household were trained in how to operate the system and how to replace the filter.

They explained everything they did and why; ran both units to ensure that both were running properly - which they were. I am so pleased and highly recommend them;don't think you can go wrong!

Gary's initial visit was very informative and professional. He explained exactly what the options were and went into enough detail that gave me the assurance that I was in good hands. I wanted to have a new return cut upstairs and he spent extra time determining the placement and design, so I could get the most out of the construction. He also told me that he personally would be on sight the day of the job as well as his assistants. (not all do that!) The day of the installation went seamlessly. Gary and his crew showed up on time, started right away and finished on schedule. There were numerous rebates available for the efficient unit I selected and Gary even filled out all the paperwork for me (Rheem, gas company, etc...)! All I had to do was submit the paperwork. Doing business with Air Vista is a breeze. I am now enjoying a comfortable environment with my new Rheem unit and I know I have a reputable, knowledgeable source for my heating and cooling needs. I highly recommend Gary Krautkramer and his company Air Vista.
