BERNIE & SON'S LANDSCAPING INC

I contracted with Bernie and Son's to do some landscaping at my parents' mobile home. I explained to Alex that my parents were elderly and in poor health and that it was difficult for them to keep up with the weeds in their yard. The objective of the job was to create a low maintenance yard using weed barrier and landscape rock. I wanted to create landscaping that would be virtually maintenance free as pulling weeds was physically too demanding for my elderly mother. I asked Alex about weed barrier and landscape rock. I asked if this option would meet the objectives I set forth. I asked for alternatives. I was not dissuaded from using the weed block and rocks. I was never told that my mother would need to continue to pull weeds even with the job they would do, so I agreed to the job. Within months, weeds were popping up all over my parents' yard. I contacted Bernie and Son's. They came out and sprayed weed killer. In an email, I explained that I didn't feel this was a long term solution and wanted to find out what had gone wrong. I never heard back from Bernie and Son's. I understand that seeds can blow on top of the weed barrier. I understand that weed barrier is not forever. But I certainly thought my parents would have several years of a maintenance free yard. I pulled all the new weeds myself and treated the yard with weed killer. But the following months only brought more weeds. My parents actually had more weeds in their yard than before the job was done. I contacted Bernie and Son's again and requested that either the job be redone with more effective weed barrier or a refund be given. They went out and had a look, pulled the weeds but basically said that weed barrier is not 100% effective and that the weeds were coming from my parents' neighbors' yard. Funny thing though, the spot that had the most weeds was adjacent to the neighbor's concrete driveway. In response to my letter, Bernie and Son's recommended that I hire them to perform monthly maintenance on my parents' yard for an additional price. For the amount of money I paid them, I could have hired a gardener to come to my parents' house once a month for several years. I never would have agreed to this job had I known that the weed barrier and landscape rock would not work. I should have been told that monthly maintenance was going to be needed. I should have been told in the beginning weed barrier was ineffective. This job was a huge, costly disappointment and has caused my parents nothing but stress. In the end, Bernie and Son's offered me no resolution at all.
