+ -1 moreThe disconnect went just fine, but the reconnect could not have gone worse. We are not "handy" at all and wanted to be sure the gas dryer was hooked up correctly. We thought it would be simple for someone who knew what they were doing and were willing to pay to be sure it was done right. As soon as the repair guy left, I went back downstairs and confirmed that I really did smell gas. I ended up calling another company on an emergency basis, who sent someone right out, told me the person had connected a valve to a valve and left us in a life-threatening situation. Needless to say, we stopped the checks and called to complain. The supervisors (Randy Casper/Steve Cesena) said they were licensed plumbers when asked (no license found) and that the repair guy who came out worked for them. They were sorry and offered to pay the bill for the real plumber who put the right connectors on the gas lines. I think this is done by guys on their way to work.
Description of Work: We were moving last month from our home in Hayward to a new home in Oakland and needed someone to disconnect and reconnect the gas line to the clothes dryer. (We were told that another company would do it, but on 2 separate calls, they said they don't do appliance connections.) We received a copy of a flier from a co-worker for a handyman service she had used and liked. I called and asked if they could do this work and they said yes for $99 each visit. A very nice gentleman came at 7am, the only time available, and disconnected the dryer. The next business day he came 7am again to the new house and found the new gas line wouldn't fit with our dryer line. He dashed to the hardware store and came back with a connecting piece and connected it to the dryer; told me it was ready. When he turned it on, I told him I smelled gas. He assured me it was "residual" from working on the connection and that all was well. He didn't test it and hurried off.
