Steve was at first reluctant to do a metal roof for us due to his years of experience as a roofing contractor, and the fact that metal roofs are much more maintenance-prone than most people believe. One of his concerns was with the long runs (approx 32 feet) on part of our roof. He has seen similar metal roofs (with a 40 foot run) actually tear the heads off the screws which are holding it down, due to expansion in direct sunlight. However, once we assured him that we wanted metal (and that we were willing to pay close to twice the price for the material cost of a metal roof as compared to a normal composition single roof) he selected ACS Skyline roofing. He felt this material had a better chance of long service due to the slotted hole attachment of the panels (which would allow for expansion and contraction without damage to the fasteners), and the fact that most of the screws are covered, rather than exposed to the weather. His crew of 3 workers did excellent work, maneuvering with precision on our 7-in-12 pitched roof (That's steep!). They paid particularly close attention (and Steve personally supervised) critical areas around skylights and replacing gutter hangers so that the roof would perform well for the long term. He also added on gutter guard on our existing gutters at a very reasonable cost. My one concern is that when the job was completed in late July, Steve promised to return and place snow guards at an additional cost on the roof so that, should we get significant snow fall in the future, we wouldn't have to deal with and quot;avalanchesand quot; suddenly breaking loose off our steeply pitched roof and possibly causing significant damage to hand railings on the deck below, or ourselves (!). I gave him all the specifications on the snow guards we wanted to go with, and he was going to check with the supplier for all the details on placement and quantity required for our situation and then return and do the job. However, it's now almost November, the rainy season has started and I realize he is probably busy with lots of major roofing projects right now. However I would have appreciated a call back if he wasn't going to have time to get this detail taken care of before we have the possibility of winter snows. I assume he will read this review, so perhaps that will serve as a reminder. Basically, though, Steve did an extremely careful and beautiful job of installing a new metal roof on our house, and we are very pleased with the final results.
Description of Work: Steve and his crew tore off our old composition roof from our house, garage and storage shed. They replaced it with a new metal roof.

In December we had several very bad storms - one about the 20th was very severe. I knew I was in trouble when I found shingles from my roof in the street in front of my house - and a neighbor called and said he found shingles in is yard that were mine. I called Stephen Halverson of Viking Roof Service and he came over and checked the roof and gave me a price .No work could be done till Jan. 2 because it kept raining. The roof was finished in two days and I have had no problems with it.
