They sent two guys who spend what I believe was about 3 hours (I was there the whole time) moving the thermostat and trying to figure out how to install the Nest device. When I has talked to someone at the company about getting a Nest thermostat, they said it would be no problem to install. However, these two guys had no idea what they were doing. They called back to their office multiple times with questions and even asked to use my laptop to go on the Nest website. I even had another standard programable thermostat which they also couldn't figure out. They ended up just leaving the telling me to call their manager. None of the tasks were completed and they ended up just putting the original thermostat back on. Don't let these guys near your A/C system or unit. Talking to their manager, I didn't want to have them come back and TRY to do more work because if you can't figure out a thermostat I don't want you messing around with my A/C unit, which I am sure is much more complicated and has more opportunity for damage. I ended up getting the Nest thermostat installed, but NOT by this company. Over a month and a half later they charge my credit card for $425. I never even gave them the credit card for this job, signed for any work done or job order, was given any receipts, and gave no authorization. They simply already had a credit card on file from a job they did through my homeowner insurance. Very shady and possibly even fraud. I called them and asked them to remove the charge since they never completed any of the work. Somehow they still think I owe them for the time they spent tinkering and googling my thermostat and the lady I talked to ends the conversation with "We'll see you in court". Bottom line is they charge a credit card they were never given, for work they never completed, without any notice or authorization from me. Hopefully other people will be able to avoid this headache and wasted time. They are the whole reason I joined Angie's List, because I want to avoid ever wasting time talking to a company who would put me through this kind of h*** again.
Description of Work: They were suppose to come and do general A/C maintenance, move and replace the thermostat, and install a compressor saver. In the end, none of these jobs were completed.

We are very dissatisfied with our recent experience with Comfort Zone Heating and Cooling, Inc., the contractor you assigned for our air conditioning problem. The actual visit was satisfactory, but the company's follow-up was unacceptable. The technician noted the following on their work order: "impacted evap coil must cemical [sic] clean to continue diag." The technician told us that he was unsure whether said chemical cleaning was covered by the American Home Shield warranty, but that the company would be in touch. The next day, Comfort Zone contacted us and told us that the evaporator coil chemical clean was not under warranty and that the cost would be $299. We decided to go ahead based on this estimate, and called to make an appointment to have it done. We were told that we had an appointment for Thursday, 9/4. When we had not heard anything by 1 pm that day, we called to check when they planned to show up. We were then told that our appointment was actually for Friday, 9/5. Despite the fact that we had triple checked the date of the original appointment, we accepted the schedule change. The following morning, Friday, 9/5, we received a telephone call informing us of the time window during which the technician would arrive, and informing us that the cost of an evaporator coil chemical cleaning was going to be $548. When I reminded the caller of the previous estimate, I was told that the $299 estimate was for a condenser cleaning. Nowhere on any paperwork in my possession nor at any time during any conversation that I had with the original technician was the requirement for a condenser cleaning mentioned. This is a blatant example of an attempt to defraud me using an obvious bait and switch scheme. I'm following up with a complaint to the California Department of Consumer Affairs as I believe this is an illegal deceptive practice.

Their technician, Sam, was friendly, courteous, and professional. I appreciated the way he showed respect for our home by using cloth booties over his work shoes and using a drop cloth to cover the hallway closet. He was fully equipped to handle our situation. I am not commenting on price because we paid a flat service call rate through our home warranty provider. I would recommend Comfort Zone Heating and Cooling without reservation.

We initiated the service call through our home warranty. We complained that there wasn't much cold air blowing upstairs. The guys showed up just at the tail end of the appointment window without calling ahead. Not a good start. There were two people, it looked like a father & son team. The younger guy seemed to be there to take orders from the older guy. Their dynamic is not my problem. They went around upstairs and took readings. They then went to the AC unit and did some stuff. As I asked questions they gave me vague answers. I was with them the whole time and I saw that they never performed any work. The older guy started writing up a service sheet, so I asked what he was writing. He said we need a maintenance and air balancing. I asked him if he already had approval to do the work or needs me to call the home warranty company. He said they're not going to do any work at all and they don't do maintenance or balancing. Huh?! So we still didn't have a working AC. However, based on their recommendation, we called another company to do a maintenance call. They showed up and basically said our unit isn't working, there isn't anything to maintain. So, what did this guy do? We had to recall our home warranty and have another person come out and diagnose the compressor being bad and have it replaced. So not only did Comfort Zone do nothing, except waste my Saturday time, they couldn't get the diagnosis right! We'll use someone else and make sure they never come back.
Description of Work: Nothing... walked around, wrote some stuff down, but fixed nothing. Took readings at the vents but didn't adjust anything.

Our tenant's furnace unit went out and we immediately needed to resolve the issue as the weather was starting to get colder. I called Comfort Zone Heating and Cooling on Sunday afternoon and from the moment I called, they were very helpful. They asked me key questions as well as gave me options on how they could help. The three other places I called did not ask any questions and told me they would send a technician out for around $80-$90 but that was only to tell me what was wrong with the furnace. Ronald from Comfort Zone came out the next morning. He was knowledgeable and honest about what could be the key issue with such an old unit and walked me through it. He provided me with detail options which involved either fixing the current unit or replacing it. He gave me price options on the spot. In addition, he informed me of rebates I would be eligible to receive if I got the furnace replaced. He went the extra step and called the suppliers directly to find out the exact amount I would receive based on the furnace efficiency. We agreed a new unit could be placed in on Wednesday morning. In the mean time, Ronald replaced a part which would help with keeping the furnace working (by manually lighting the pilot) for the two nights at no extra charge, since I was replacing my unit with them. In addition to this, he also replaced the thermostat in the tenant's unit with one I had already purchased. During new furnace installation, both Ronald and his helper were very professional, showed up on time, and answered all of my questions. They got the work done fast and cleaned up any mess they made. They walked me through the information I would need to submit for rebate. They even answered some questions I had about an HVAC unit I had gotten installed previously by someone else in another unit. I would definitely recommend Comfort Zone Heating and Cooling to anyone who has heating & cooling needs.

I rarely write reviews and just want to express my satisfaction with Comfort Zone Heating And Cooling. The professional staff and their expert technicians made the whole process of getting an appointment to fix my broken central heater a lot easier. I called for service on the heating system for my house on Monday of last week and was given an appointment at 10:am the next day. There was no time frame, the tech arrived exactly at the given time and told me exactly what he was going to do and when he would finish. The entire process, took about an hour and a half which was a little longer than promised but thanks to Hamlet now I have a fully functional heater. I even got a courtesy call the following week from the customer service department making sure that my heater is working properly. Thank you very much, Highly Recomended

Not impressed. They were nice enough but tried to upsell me on air duct cleaning and scare me about the age of the older system in my new house (which a later contractor confirmed was working just fine). Recommended a biannual (winter/spring) routine maintenance of my HVAC system and quoted me over $200--another highly-rated Angie's list contractor, Carreon, eventually did my winter check-up (for $65), spent some time showing me the system and how it worked, and confirmed that everything was old but still sturdy!
Description of Work: Came to check why AC wasn't working. Charged me for "wire not connected" (which I think means a cord left unplugged after construction).

To start... This company operated with a SUSPENDED license -- we found out prior to having them back to fix what they didn't the first time. 7/13/2009 Truly the most awful service you can imagine. I only gave one star bc no stars was not an option. Due to the home warranty obtained my my home purchase, my work order was given to Gamlet's. During first service all, the technician refilled the freon and said that would fix the problem. One the unit refroze, we called again. 4 days later he showed up and turned a valve in the basement. This would fix the freezing he assured us. However, when we asked him to show us the problem with the unit and inquired about the standing water that had leaked out, he replied that there was no leak. When we pressed to completely understand the problems, he was belligerent and rude. He never took anything apart or inspected a thing. So we were not at all surprised that the AC froze once again. Calls to the office were returned over 4 hours later. When I called to inquire about the late technician, I was told that he was running late and that my 9-11 appointment had been moved to 11-1. With no regard for my time, or the fact that I had taken the morning off work for the 3rd time. Then a different receptionist called to inform me that a part was broken and needed to be replaced. This was from a report from the technician who had left my house stating that the problem was fixed. So while she called in the problem to the home warranty for authorization, she told me that there was no need to wait around anymore, bc they were not coming at all. They needed to order parts. So I had sat around all day waiting for a repairman that never needed to come. Meanwhile, the repairman, who had never taken the unit apart, reported that the coil was damaged due to "negligent maintenance" on the unit. I am certain this is due to the fact that I explicitly stated that that technician was not to provide any more services on our home. Very petty, unprofessional and altogether untrue. The receptionist had not called back after 2 hours so I called to check the status of our repairs. She informed me that the home warranty covered a portion of the repairs and that my portion was going to be $350. So on top of the shoddy repairs, rude employees, and disregard for my time, I get the privilege of paying for this abuse? Uh, no.

A/C was emitting a gas smell, so our home warranty company said Gamlet's would be calling us. Then they called back and said another company would be sending a rep. Arthur came to our house and said the smell was not gas, but dirt on the fan due to lack of maintenance. He told us that was not covered by insurance, but his company would do it for $300. I thought that was expensive, but he informed me it involved cleaning the condenser and removing the entire blower motor from the boiler to clean it and the fan. Since I was now paying I called Gamlet's for a second opinion. The next day, Arthur was back, but in a Gamlet's shirt. "Same company. Different shirts.", he told me. This should have been a red flag, but it wasn't. I hired them to do a seasonal cleaning (Spring/Fall). A few days later, a crew came and cleaned out the condenser. I mentioned the blower motor, he came in the house, looked at it, and I left him to do his work. A half-hour later, he came and said they were finished. One week later we turned on the A/C for the first time and the smell was back. When I opened the boiler, it was as dirty as when Arthur first showed me the problem. I complained and Gamlets said they'd send the same crew Saturday at 8am. On Friday at 4:30, I got a call from the tech. saying they could come now. I said great. To which, he immediately offered to come on Monday. I said either, now or the original Saturday morning appt., so they came. 2 guys, no van, no tools, nothing. The tech. tried telling me I needed a new motor. I said I'd like to have it cleaned before I replaced it, seeing as it still worked, but was so dirty. Then, as they tried to put it back together, it wouldn't work. He fiddled with wires, took my thermostat off the wall (pulling the screw from the wall, chipping the paint and leaving black fingerprints) and then told me they'd have to come back Monday. I said I was unhappy and that I still had a Sat. 8am appt., to which the second tech. told me, "I'll come Saturday, but it's going to have to be early because the parts supply closes at noon" I said fine. Saturday morning, nothing. No call. I called and the operator (who is very friendly) said they were too busy and would come Monday between 8&10. I said ok, but asked for a different tech. because I had no faith in the 2 who were at my home already. They said ok. 10am Monday. Nothing. I call. He'll be there in 15 minutes. 45 minutes later I call. He'll be there in 20 minutes. 45 minutes later he shows up. He opens the boiler and it needs a new motor. He'll have to come tomorrow between 8&10. He comes at 11:30. After 2 hours, he says he can't fix it. Gamlet himself will have to come. After they left, I found condenser parts lying on the ground with their tools. Today, finally, Arthur came and fixed the problem. (25 minutes later than he said he'd be here). They did the work, but it took way too long and my home looks worse for their having been here.
