I contacted So Bay Appliance to have my ice maker repaired, thinking it was something relatively simple. The technician was about 45 minutes early - he had called my cell phone but I was at work and didn't have my cell phone on me when I stepped away from my desk. He called a couple more times and I picked up, only to find out he had been waiting at my house for about 10 minutes! Luckily I work 10 minutes from my house and he was willing to wait. He immediately figured out there was a problem with my sealed refrigeration system - there was no freon on the unit and the condenser was cold, indicating (I guess) that it was not working. He checked the temperature in the freezer and it was 30 degrees (it should have been zero). He said he could run a line to diagnose the problem and fill the unit with freon for about $185.00 but that would be a temporary fix. I would need to replace the unit and it would be around $600!!! The refrigerator is only 6 years old so he advised some of the repairs would most likely be covered under warranty. He suggested I contact the manufacturer and try and get the repairs done by them. I opted to contact the manufacturer and will see what they say. I appreciated that he didn't try to" scare, pressure, or bully" me into having him do the repairs. The only negative comment I have is it took over a week to schedule the appointment. I understand they must be busy and the nature of my problem wasn't an emergency but when I contacted the manufacturer, they were able to schedule me in 2 days.

Service company was prompt in answering my call and taking the required information. They called as promised the next day with a 3-hour window for the tech to report. Tech reported as promised, worked quietly and professionally and restored the jammed ice dispenser to operation. He also advised on how to mitigate this in future (don't leave freezer door open, regularly run ice through the dispenser). Very thorough, neat and professional. I will definitely use them again and refer them to others.

Danny was fantastic! We have a high-end dishwasher, and the source of the problem was very difficult to determine. He worked directly with the manufacturer tech support, and followed their advice. When the replacement part they recommended didn't fix the problem, he was right back on the phone with them troubleshooting. When the second fix that was recommended didn't solve the problem, Danny didn't give up. He continued to brainstorm with the manufacturer, and after 3 trips to our house, and 3 different replacement parts, the dishwasher is now working. He was very professional and at the same time friendly. I will call South Bay Appliance anytime I need appliance repairs in the future.

I left an email on their website on Sunday and was called first thing the next morning - great start! Downhill from there. We set up an appointment. I was called by the tech (Dave) the morning of the appointment and told the time window. (Why can't they call the night before? It would make planning so much easier.) He arrived in the time window but did not recognize the problem, so he called the Kenmore service line, described the problem, and was told to replace the fan. He told me it would take 3-5 working days. They called me SEVEN working days later. Dave arrived at 5:20 the day of the appt, tried the new fan, and discovered that was NOT the problem, he would need to rebuild the motherboard. First, though, since it was after 6 pm by then and he had to okay it with Kenmore (?!), we had to make ANOTHER appt just to remove the motherboard. At this appt (our THIRD meeting) he said it would take two weeks to rebuild but if I paid $75 they would "expedite" it to one week. I pointed out quite politely that he had first come three weeks previously and wouldn't his company take that into consideration and expedite for me themselves? He said no and I said no. The promised non-expedited two weeks later I called the office and asked about my rebuilt motherboard and was told that I should allow extra time for weekends and holidays! (Really? Then tell me 14 working days, don't tell me two weeks!) I called again five days later and was then told by Nicolette "it should be here by now, I will check and call you in the morning." She did NOT call. When I called them they said the part was on its way. I made an appt and Dave came to install the rebuilt motherboard. It took him 20 minutes. I am not upset that the initial diagnosis was wrong, I can understand that happening. I am not happy that they don"t tell me the time window the night before; that he always came late in the time window (usually within the last 30 minutes), once costing me another appointment; that they NEVER called when a part was late. Also I am quite annoyed that $75 was requested to shave a week off my repair time when I had already wasted time due to the misdiagnosis and having to make a second appointment for him to come back to remove the part. Customer service means doing what you say you will do - if you say it will take 3 - 5 days, call on day 5 and either have the part or give an update. If you say two weeks, call in 2 weeks! Don't make me pay extra to get "expedited" service!!!!

The wash cycle began but stopped agitating shortly thereafter. then it would only soak the clothes. I had this problem before, but it was intermittent, so I already had a diagnosis from my regular repairman. My repairman was booked up, so I called Spears. The Spears repairman came in, I described the problem, he looked at the machine for less than 2minutes, spinning the dials. He gave me the same answer my repairman had given me. He gave me the same explanations, estimated costs, time line. Spears also sells new. Appliances, but when I asked if I should buy a new machine, he said no, that I should fix this one as long as it did a good job, and repair costs were not excessive. Spears ordered the part, it came in at the cost quoted, it was delivered and installed at the cost quoted. Best of all, the fellow worked quickly but carefully, was competent, honest, and on top of all that, he had a great sense of humor. They get my highest possible rating.k
Description of Work: Spears repaired my ancient maytag washer. They sell washers and dryers but told me not to buy one yet, claiming the old machines that with all metal parks surpass new machines. The part was expensive and had to be ordered. The price of the part, and the time to install it were exactly the same as an estimate given to me by an independent man I often use, but was not available at that time.

Ike, the service man, was very professional and carefull with a very heavy double gas oven. He had to pull it out from the wall. I felt the price was fair because he had to reviove two oven doors good in light of the heavy work, pull out the oven, install the ignitors, restore the oven to the wall, and test hus work.

The serviceman arrived on time and provided me with helpful tips to try in lieu of service. He also estimated the cost of the parts and labor should his cleanup tips not get the dishwasher working properly again. In this case his suggestion to use a dishwasher cleaner and different detergent has successfully solved my problem for now and saved a costly repair and perhaps a new dishwasher. I would highly recommend Spears service.

The work was fine, there was no mess. The technitian was in and out in about 1 hour and the fridge was back up and working fine. It has been a week now since the repair and everything is still working great. I had a good experience with this company. They showed up in the time window provided and quoted me a price before the work was started that was exactly what I was billed.

This has made being a member of Angies List worth it. In past some services I was looking for did not work in my area, and just wasn't sure if it was worth it. BUT my 15 year old Kenmore washer started making a horrible noise, I didn't know who to call - looked at what new ones would cost, and the only ones with decent reviews were over $500, and I still like my washer - so looked through Angies List and found this place with good reviews, and is very close by. I called them, they charge $49 to come out and look at problem, then explain how much and what it would take to fix it. They gave me a window between 1:00 - 4:00 and technician was here at 2:00 - listened to noise washer made and knew right away what it was - a broken coupling of some kind. Efficiently took machine apart and replaced coupling in little over 1/2 hour it was done. The whole cost $159.49 - what a relief - already using washing and it is so quite now. This place is worth it.

Our clothes washer stopped working Friday evening. Called for a repair appointment on Saturday and got an appointment for Thursday -- the next open appointment. Somewhat disappointed in the wait. Chuck showed up Thursday, asked a few questions, and said he knew what was wrong and gave us an estimate. He had the parts. He replaced a check switch and fuse and our washer was up and running. We asked him to check the washer for other things that might require repair. He said that was part of the service call, and would let us know if something else needed fixing or was close to failing. After his inspection, he let us know nothing else needed repair. He mentioned what sort of things could break and what we should look for. When he started the washer, the stagnant water had a horrible smell. He suggested running an empty small load with bleach to clean out the washer before washing an actual load. During the entire process, the repairman was very friendly, respectful, and courteous. The service and parts are warrantied for 6 months.

It was painless working with him. He was quick and efficient. I was in the other room while he worked. He arrived when he said that he would. He told us that he would be there between 12 and 3.
