I was immediately please with South Bay Appliance because the office staff knew my location and could provide service (which was not true of another company on this list I called). We set a time on Saturday and the repair technician was right on time. After examining my washer, Dan the repairman noticed I needed a part replaced. Unfortunately he did not have the part on his truck nor was it in stock at their office. The office called me the next business day to let me know they were ordering the part and would call to set a new appointment when the part arrived. The office called two days later and we set an appointment for Monday afternoon. Once again the repair technician arrived within the time agreed upon, replaced the part, tested the washer, and was on his way. This was a great experience and I would definitely recommend and use South Bay Appliance again. Plus I received an Angie's List Discount!
Description of Work: From the beginning of contacting this company the experience was awesome. The office staff was friendly and helpful, gave me a Saturday morning appointment and the technician was prompt. After examining the washer, the repair technician explained what work needed to be done, he was very professional and tidy.

I first called a company (Air Flow) last week to look at my dishwasher and they gave me an estimate of over 450.00. I knew they were trying to rip me off and sent them away with their service call fee. I called Spears and they came and fixed my dishwasher for 160.00! The service was fantastic! Chuck was our service tech and was very knowledgeable. The experience was great and I would recommend you call Spears first! Thanks Spears! :-)

THe repairman was on time and very efficient - he did not have the part he needed (had to order), but came back several days later and replaced it. The price was great - much less than any other quote I got and the repairman even showed us some features of the machine we didn't know about! I would recommend this company highly!
Description of Work: They replaced a pump in my Bosch dishwasher. It is really hard to find someone who works on Bosch dishwashers, so I was happy to find them.

The technician was very professional, knew where the likely trouble spots were, didn't try to upsell me on any additional services (my freezer gasket looked bad but he checked it out and said that it was fine), and I was pleased with their service. I recommend this company for Maytag refrigerator repairs!
Description of Work: The Maytag refrigerator wasn't staying cold, so I contacted Spears to schedule a service call. They were available two days later (I did call around 5pm) and a service technician arrived on Thursday morning as promised. The technician removed the back insulation cover and quickly determined that the relay and overload had gone bad. However, he did not have one on his truck and after checking to make sure the office had one, promised to return later in the day. Late that afternoon, he showed up again, replaced the relay and overload, checked to make sure that the refrigerator was functioning properly, and this completed the service call.

I was impressed with his professionalism and skill. I would definitely use South Bay Appliance again.
Description of Work: I needed to have my under counter range re-installed after getting new countertops. I tried to do it myself but I could not get it all the way into the slot. Ike with South Bay came out and was able to install it without any issue. He also gave us several tips on caring for our cook top and range and showed us how to remove the range door for easier cleaning. We have a self cleaning oven but he said the high temperatures generated during self cleaning is h****** oven components. He also checked the temperature for us.

He was very helpful, suggesting maintenance tips on other appliances since he had to charge us even though no service was actually required.
Description of Work: Call was for oven which was not heating at all, although the clock, timer and fan were working. Service man, found nothing wrong, ovens worked perfectly. He suggested there had been a 200 volt power problem from the electric company.

I had called several companies, many of which do not work on Samsung Wash machines. I finally found spears appliance, and they also had an angies list coupon for 5% off. I made the appointment, the service provider called back and told me they can only provide the work I asked for, and if there was anything else they may not be able to do that(this is because of the difficulties in working with Samsung, not spears). That was fine, as I already had the part and was sure the problem was the door diaphragm. Only one minor problem, I tried to call on Friday morning, per our agreeement and could not get through. The serviceman called me later in the morning and informed me what time they would arrive (3 hour window). He even waited for me by the house. The work went well, and was finished within 1 hour. When I went to sign, I gave the service tech my coupon and he took it , but did not write the discount, and said the office would do that. I requested this be on the bill, since the bill was made out for the total amount. I called twice to spears and they did call back and gave me the 5% discount. Not a big hassle, but it could have gone a little smoother, without my inquring. Overall, a good company and so far the washing machine is operating just fine! Glad I found this company to work on my washer!

I called late morning and while they were unable to get a tech out to see me that day, they were VERY flexible and accommodating to get him out to see me the next day, working their schedule around mine...a pleasant surprise. She quoted me the cost of the service call and said that if the work was performed, it would be credited towards the total cost of the job. I received a call from the tech himself the next morning to confirm the time window when he would be out and then again later in the day as he was finishing up the call before mine. When Ike arrived he was professional, personable, and polite. He explained everything he was doing and why, and answered all my questions. Luckily it turned out that the power only needed to be reset and nothing was really wrong with the unit that required parts or labor. He offered other tips and advice about my oven, as well as my other appliances. When I asked if he could replace a filter on my microwave, he showed me how it just needed to be cleaned and gave me recommendations on how to do that. In the end, it only cost me the quoted price of a service call, which was less than $50. I had a coupon, but that was only for parts and labor...not a service call. However, I felt that the service call cost was very reasonable and I was happy to pay it. The whole service call took about a half-hour or less. When I initially scheduled the call I was a bit worried that they weren't an authorized GE factory service center...but not any more. If I have need of service on any of my large appliances again, I'll be calling South Bay Appliance.
Description of Work: Checked current working condition of my GE Cafe Oven, asked questions about the problem, pulled the range out, disconnected power & reconnected it, and did a thorough check to make sure that the problem was fully resolved.

My oven quit working over the weekend. I checked Angie's list, found South Bay Appliance and called them Tuesday. We agreed to a time on Thursday morning. They gave me a 3 hour window between 10:30 and 1:30, and the repairman arrived before 11:00, diagnosed the problem (the igniter was broken). He gave me the cost of repairs, which was $195 with the Angie's list discount. I thought that was a very reasonable amount to fix the problem (and much less expensive than a new oven, which I had been afraid might be necessary). Within an hour the oven was fully repaired and working beautifully. He also took the time clean the oven's sides AND swept the decade's worth of dust that had accumulated in the area under the oven. I am very impressed with this company's responsiveness, professionalism and prices. I hope I won't have any other appliance problems any time soon, but when I do, I will definitely call South Bay Appliance.

Dan's first visit confirmed the problems and the parts to be ordered. Customer Service phoned me the next day with quote and request for approval to proceed. Approx. 8 days later I was called to schedule visit for parts installation. Dan again arrived on time and was professional throughout the visit. Door closing issue was resolved with exchange of part (connected with door gasket so GE made it a bit expensive to replace). New display board didn't fix the temp display issue. Dan explained he would need to contact GE during their office hours to discuss with their technical people and that he would reschedule this repair as soon as possible. I was not charged for anything at this point, pending completion of the display board issue, even though half of my repair and 2 service calls were provided. Nice. Approx. 5-7 days later I was called to reschedule. Dan returned with board and installed it. While refrig was pulled away from wall I brought out vacuum and asked Dan to call me to come vacuum before he replaced the refrigerator. Next thing I know I hear him vacuuming! Now that's complete service! He also advised me to remove an old plug transformer I had been told to use years ago, stating that these refrigerators should plug directly into wall outlet. Hopefully Dan is being compensated well at South Bay appliance as he's a great representative of the business out in the field (and as an ex Customer Service Director I'm tough to please)!
Description of Work: Service needed for GE Profile French Door refrigerator: broken door closing latch and malfunctioning temperature display board. Customer Service contact was pleasant and efficient in scheduling my service call. Tech contact Dan showed up on time and was professional and pleasant at all times. Repairs were ultimately completed to my satisfaction with extra housekeeping thrown in for good measure! (See below details). Highly satisfied with this business.

It went great! I am really impressed with this company. The service guy was friendly and efficient and answered all of my questions and had the problem solved very, very quickly. He only charged me for a service call even though he made some adjustments on the leveling of the fridge and checked out the ice maker. They are great and a very professional company. They came out when they said they would. The price was very reasonable. The problem is solved! I rate this company A+++++! I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: I was having trouble closing the doors on my Bosch refrigerator--even though I didn't have anything in the freezer at all, the door would still pop open. I had to throw away a lot of food because it melted and got below room temperature...the ice maker also seemed to be giving me trouble and not generating ice properly so I called to see about getting service done and the company came out promptly. They were EXCELLENT and I highly recommend them!

They were easy to deal with. They came out the same day and resolved the problem with the icemaker. They didn't have all the tools and they went and got them and came right back. We would recommend them and would use them again.

It went great. I've used South Bay/Spears for other repairs and they have always been thoroughly professional and knowledgeable about the models that we needed repaired. As a long time Angie's List member with many reports, I'm happy to say that South Bay/Spears is still a first rate service provider.
Description of Work: Our 8-year old stainless steel Kitchenaid dishwasher was not washing the dishes on the top rack, and the soap was not being washed out of the compartment. I called South Bay/Spears and they sent Dan out to take a look. Before pulling it apart, he diagnosed the problem and told me how much it might cost for two different scenarios. I agreed to the prices and he took it apart. In about 10 minutes, he held up the broken part (a chopper assembly) and explained how it caused the filter to be clogged. (It was the less expensive of the two scenarios.) He had the part in his truck and fixed it quickly. Then he tested it to make sure it worked. In the three days since he was here, we have run a couple of loads of dishes and the dishwasher works like new. We had been considering replacing it, but found that a new one costs around $1,800.

We called on a Monday and the repair man was here on Wednesday. They offer a good deal for the analysis visit: $48.50 as the charge the house call and diagnosis. If you choose to repair, it is waived and parts and labor are charged. There is an Angie's List discount, but it never was clear exactly whether it was on parts only or labor and parts. (Angie's should make that clear). The repairman LOVED finding the problem. He was professional, did not rush through things and analyzed sufficiently to please my engineer husband. He was thorough in tracking down the cause of the problem all the way to a failed circuit board. He ordered the part and and came back several days later. He was friendly and came on time. The office returned our calls promptly. Our machine is over 6 years old and we were unsure whether to repair or replace. We repaired with confidence!
Description of Work: Diagnosed why our Kenmore front loading washing machine was not spinning all the water out of the laundry. It was emptying water, but did not spin.

How did it go? Filling out this form went poorly. As for the service date and amount spent, I only put in a figure because it was required and is no way accurate. As I said, I have used them several times and would have no idea of the dates or of the amount spent; only to say the price was the lowest I could find. I give this form a D!

The fist tech was not familar enough with my machine to trouble shoot properly but the company sent out a different tech right away. The company was very understanding and responded quickly.
Description of Work: My crappy Whirlpool washer would not empty the water. The first tech that came out only did what I said I thought it was, that cost me $300. The second tech dove right in and knew how to service this machine, after removing $6 +- in coins the washer worked great.

These guys are great - professional, prompt, knowledgeable. What more can you ask for? The technician took my oven apart to show me how it works and was patient about explaining things in non-technical terms. He had the correct replacement part in his truck so I didn't have to schedule a second service call. He gave me tips on how to take better care of my oven/stove. The oven works great!
Description of Work: Much to my dismay, I turned my gas oven on and it wouldn't get hot. I called Spears and they came out the following day. They replaced the Bake Igniter and also checked to make everything else was functioning properly.

An assembly inside the dishwasher broke. It was needed to keep the door from falling down when opened. We didn't realize the problem at first and so the door went crashing down three or four times before we became more careful. I called them on a Monday. They promised to call back between 8:30 and 9 the next morning to give me a window when the repairman (in this case, Chuck) would come. The next day, they called as promised. Chuck came (at 2 p.m.) between 1 and 4, as promised. Even though he had been given the wrong address, he called and I directed him to the correct address. He arrived and realized that he had been given the wrong manufacturer. (We had purchased a dishwasher from them for a rental house we own. The dispatcher sent him to that location.) However, he had the part in his truck and quickly installed it. In addition, he attached a bracket to the dishwasher that affixed it to our granite counter (which the counter installers had not done). Now it doesn't slide around. He explained what he was doing and mentioned how the new assembly was better than the original one. He replaced the assemblies on both sides even though only one had broken. While the cost might have been a little high, Chuck ended up doing more than requested and the dishwasher now does not squeak when the door is opened as it had for years. I've used them for repairs of other appliances in the past and value their professionalism.

Dishes had not been getting clean for some time in our 3 - 4 year old Kitchenaide dishwasher. Tried all different soaps, stacking options, rack levels, etc. Though we'd have to buy a new one. Called and got an appointment within a day and repairman arrived on time. Fixed appliance and offered hints for future use. very happy with overall experience.
