The initial price that was quoted was a little high, but the owner agreed to lower it. I was ready to have them come down, but my husband decided that he could do the work himself to save a little money.
Description of Work: We needed to have our plywood floor nailed down.

Excellent, thoroughly professional work completed on time and budget.
Description of Work: Refinishing - sanding, staining and polishing - portions of my hardwood floors due to blemishes caused by us and our dog. I used them because they originally manufactured and installed the floors.

Since we have a history with Richard Marshal taking care of our expensive floor we called them to not only re-oil the floor, but fix the damage we did as mentioned above. We mailed them the key and off we went on vacation. When we returned the floor was beautiful again, but the grove they worked to repair was still a little evident. Richard Marshal sent out a supervisor to inspect and agreed the result was not as good as hoped. With that being said they offered to redo the repair without hesitation, but since it was not praticle they refunded the full amount of the repair just leaving the amount for the re-oiling. They were not defensive and stepped up as you would expect from a class company. I think the true test of a company is when things are not perfect and the company makes it right. We will hire them again next year and the next. Guess you get the idea. I predict with our busy family we will have more floor damage to repair by then as well. Anyway, they are the best and great customer service as well.
Description of Work: Richard Marshall was the installer of our wood floors in our home when it was completed in late 2005 and every year after we have to have it re-oiled to make it like new again. This process gets completed every year while we go on vacation as it takes a day or so then needs a bit to dry before you can walk on it without problem. The result is excellent and makes the floor like new again. This year was a bit more complicated as we managed to make a gove in the floor from the wheel at bottom of a large bird cage. Richard Marshall has been very professional and courteous. We must trust them as we give them the key to our house without any supervision. We will continue to use them every year when we need them refinished. I really recommend them without hesitation.

I purchased walnut plank flooring for my entry, family room, and kitchen. It was shipped to my home, and installed by an installer in my area who knew the RMFF installation process. Consequently, I received their warranty. It, to date, is the most important upgrade I have made to my home. People walk in and the first thing they say is "Where did you get the flooring?" It has held up 100%, and that is with a backyard that has yet to be landscaped. My experience with this company was extraordinary. They qualify for the highest rating on all points on Angie's List. They also qualify for recognition for excellent customer service. Being a firefighter and paramedic, I see the inside of many homes. I have seen nothing near the quality of this flooring. I also have experienced back injury. I was told by a health care provider who treated me to avoid stone flooring, because it had no give, especially when installed on slab. Wood is more forgiving, and if I fall I am less prone to injury. Also, if I am standing for sustained periods in my kitchen, it is easier on my back. This is true for me. I need to address ecology today. How did it affect my decision? Richard Marshall uses only farmed wood. They do not use rainforest product. My brother installed this flooring in home in Los Angeles when he saw mine. My final work on the subject is to install this flooring. It is worth every cent spent. Remember, to quote a friend who is both a designer and builder, flooring is one of the most important investments in a home and is the palate against which all design is placed.
Description of Work: I purchased a home in Oakley, California in 2008. I wanted to install wood flooring as an upgrade for my home. It was not available through the builders. I knew someone who had hardwood flooring in their home in Los Angeles. I had always admired it. I called them and asked who sold them the flooring. They gave me the name Richard Marshall Inc. They had the flooring in their home since 1999. I did extensive online research regarding hardwood flooring. I came upon the website of Richard Marshall Inc. It was everything I wanted, quality, real hardwood, and a deep, rich finish. I flew to Los Angeles to the showroom to see the flooring. The flooring is manufactured onsite. It is all handmade, and hand oiled. It is cut and finished at the manufacturer's site in Hawthorne, CA. I was able to purchase it an affordable price for me. I am a firefighter, paramedic, so I did not have unlimited funds. The compnay sent out someone to measure, and emailed me a CAD drawing of the proposed installation.

The process went very well, they did an outstanding job. The floors looked fantastic. Castulo and Joel pay great attention to detail; they put forth a lot of effort to getting the floor into tip top shape.
Description of Work: They re-stained wood flooring at my house, as well as some repairs.

See Above: I saw heard about the flooring from a sales person at Decorative carpets and met both he and the installer. They put the flooring in the house when I bought it in 1991. Then in 1995, the salesperson became the sole owner of this company and in 1998. I contacted him to have the flooring installed in back. Everything I describe above occurred. The flooring went in on time. It was finished and did not require sanding. I had that experience when I first had flooring installed in another home. Please not I am not a wealthy person. I am now retired. I am so happy I have these floors. I will not move. This is my little cocoon of luxury. I went to the showroom, saw the floors. Talk to the sales person and the new installer. The floors were installed on time with no problems. It took three days for the installation. They were courteous, clean, and well kept.
Description of Work: Do go to the showroom and see the flooring before deciding Do see how it is made. It is all hand made Do listen to the sales person. They are very knowlegable. Do not be afraid of the price. It is expensive, but worth every cent paid. Do know that flooring is the pallate against which all design is placed. If you have a buget, include flooring as a key part of the buget, Do not underestimate the value of wood flooring. It t's is softer and gives more than stone; therefore it is easier on the back. It moves with change weather, so it does not buckle. The oil finish lasts for a lifetime We have the floors since 1998 and we have them oiled once a year. They have stood up over time to everything, children, grandchildren, parties, pool, dragging water over the floors when the children and grandchildren come wet into the house. Our entire house has wood. First we started with living room, dinning room, entry. Kitchen, laundry room and powder room. Then we added the entire back, hallway, guest bath office and masterbedroom. It is a fabulous product. Worth every penny Do not buy flooring until you visit this showroom. The last time I was there, They showed me a new hardwood product which was very affordable and look as luxurious as mine. I cannot say more. You have to see it.

When my wife and I decided to redo our small mid-city home, we decided the one thing we wanted to splurge on was the flooring. After a lot of research, we decided to go with Richard Marshall. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely. To be honest, were were a little hesitant to go with RM, only because they're a company of national reputation accustomed to working on homes 10, 20, even 30 times the size of ours. Would they bother with our tiny project? Would they care? After speaking with Betty, one of the sales reps, our doubts vanished. She was wonderful--patient, warm, respectful, and knowledgeable. When we visited the showroom, she spent over an hour answering our questions. She even gave us a tour of the factory, where it's obvious the floors are treated like art. The place is immense--because it has to be. Each floor is laid out in its entirety as it is manufactured, stained, and distressed. While we were there, I noticed a group of six or seven workers walking slowly in a line up and down a huge floor, their heads bowed. They reminded me of detectives combing a field for evidence. When I asked Betty what they were doing, she said, "That floor''s almost finished. They're making sure nothing was missed." At that point we were sold. Each floor is custom built, so we had to wait a few weeks after we decided what we wanted. Betty was great, giving us frequent updates. Scheduling installation was easy, and the installation itself was smooth. Actually, it was better than smooth. When Dick Hirsch, the owner of the company, found out we were planning to install new baseboards in the living room and bedroom, he insisted on doing the job for free. He takes obvious pride in his work, and I think he was worried that whoever we found to do the baseboards wouldn't do a great job. I could see it in his face. He knew we weren't his average customers, people of unlimited means, and because we sought him out, he really wanted us to have the best. It was a kind gesture--and a generous one. Because the rooms in our old house are oddly configured, installing the basboards took longer than I thought it would. We spent a lot of money (for us, at least) redoing our house, and the floor was the largest single expense. But it's the one thing we're happiest with. The floor was, is, and always will be beautiful. Nobody who comes in our house doesn't remark upon it, and I notice its beauty every day. In fact, when a contractor came to look at our kitchen, he walked in and immediately asked if our floor "was a Richard Marshall." We were shocked and asked how he could tell. "You can tell," he said. I'm not sure what else to say, except that cost and value are two different things. Our floor was pricey, but given its beauty, its quality, and its longevity, we feel like our money was well, even shrewdly, spent. Fantastic product, fantastic experience.
Description of Work: The folks at Richard Marshall tore out our old wood and tile floors, evened out the subfloor with leveling compound, and put down a new multi-width, hand-distressed, custom walnut floor. The total job was around 1100 square feet.
