Description of Work: Makoto has been our gardener since the early 80s. Over the years we have seen a few different assistants work with him, but the current one has been on the job for a while. The agreement of services we have covers the lawn(mowing, edging, maintaining the sprinkler head cut out area, hedges, weeding, cleaning up (raking, sweeping, blowing) for 75.00 for weekly visits for the month. On occasion we have other projects that we hire Makoto for like moving a bush/tree, removing a dead tree. I decided recently with the drought that I was going to get rid of the lawn, that I could maintain the yard myself. Well after 3 tries, I found out that even without the lawn, it was not easy as I thought it would be. I actually tried 2 other gardeners (1 who was highly recommended by Mike@Moneta Nursery as being one of the best in the area), only to find that they were horrible, unreliable, didn't finish their work, attention to detail was minimal, weeding was half fast, trimming hedges was the worst. The last gardener that was recommended as being the best in the area was let go after the first month. I had asked Fidel when we met for a quote, both for 4x a month (80.00) and discussed what the job duties were, also wanted a quote for getting pavers/hard surface to replace the lawn/grass (was told he would let me know a price after he checked out the pavers. I never heard back from Fidel regarding the paver quote, and when I would text or contact Fidel would not get a response till I fired him, basically told him that in 3 weeks, 2 of the visits were bad quality work and the 3rd scheduled work day was a no show no call and he never got back to me after 3 weeks with a quote. After the experiences with the 2 other Gardners (and 1 supposedly the best), decided to go back to Makoto as "you do not know what you have till it's gone". Makoto's work is exceptional compared to the other 2 slacker gardners, and hes always good about returning calls if you leave a msg. So Makoto was 5.00 cheaper per month than the other 2 gardeners, reliable regarding calls and scheduled work days, quality of work

+ -1 moreI am looking for a new gardener. My old gardener has been in the house for like over 30 years, but not as thorough as I would like it. I would not suggest him. I know that he has quite a few homes that he does in this block and actually lives in this neighborhood himself, but you know that as they get older they kind of get slow. He cuts the hedges and it is not even straight. It is so bad that he has been with us for 30 years, but you know when you are looking at someone doing your lawn and it is quick, it is not substantial to my standards. So, I would like someone that is a little more caring, because I really would like to start planting flowers and things like that and I want a gardener who would pay attention to things like that. He comes to my house every Friday. He does trimming of hedges and mowing of the lawn. He has some workers, who come out and they do the lawn but not consistent. I watch them and it takes them only 15-20 minutes to do the lawn itself. He is professional, but it is his workers who sometimes give you attitude I do not know why. They do not pay attention to details.
