The work was not really tested, because there was not that much rain. As of now, it appears to be terrific. We are planning to call them back for some minor issues.
Description of Work: There were 3 skylights in my house and during the rainy season it would leak. We hired them to fix it. They actually re-flashed and re-roofed around the skylights and they got it done right and there was another area in my house that had other problems and they were able to fix that too.

They're terrific. I would use them again. They were very nice. I don't know how completely it's working but it seems to be fine because we haven't really tested that much. They were great. I haven't had to have the total roof re-done which is a much bigger job. They did a nice repair work and they were very hardworking. I know the guy is working with this horrible heatwaves last either October or November something like that and then they did it the year before too. They did it the year before and it was fine. They had to do it again because the guys even though they were careful when they put the tent up and down, they can't help but maybe move things around a bit.
Description of Work: They did two jobs for me. They didn't do a total re-roof. They did repair and there were some leaks that they fixed and they fixed a drain that was leaking.

Blake and Trevor from Chandlers Roofing were both very knowedgable and professional. All questions were answered in detail and all items promised were delivered. They started on time and completed the project on time. All workers were polite and kept the work area clean on a dailt basis.

We originally received 6 quotes from different roofing contractors for this job (all found on Angies List). Though Chandler's was quite a bit more expensive (about $10,000!), I had confidence in the company after the first meeting with them. They were professional and laid everything out for us, and did not take any short cuts. Everything was completed by the book and up to code. Which is something you would want for the roof over your head? We were assigned a Project Manager (Marty Sidorchuck) who made the communication and transactions rather flawless. He made us feel very comfortable with the options and investment. While the work was being done, the Foreman, Jorge was an absolute blessing. He explained the work being done on the day to day, and was so very helpful on suggesting the best materials for our area (we live by the beach). He even reconstructed a box that contained an air duct on the roof. Though the price was a bit over our original budget, we are happy with the investment. It was worth having a good piece of mind knowing that good people were making sure you had the best work done. After the work was completed, I had some additional questions and was concerned about part of the new roof. Marty was still very attentive and available to answer all of my questions- and both he and Jorge came back out to double check the work.
Description of Work: Replaced entire roof and roof deck on a two story home with both GAF Shingles and IB Deckshield.

I think their pitch was long but beyond that I resent being told that I am not smart enough to read a quote. They must be so high on price that they require an in person hard sell to close deals.
Description of Work: The sales rep came out on a Friday and gave us a very thorough and lengthy pitch. I was told I would have the quote by Monday. On Thursday I received a form email saying they were ready to set up an appointment to give up our quote. I said basically "no thanks, just the quote please" at which point the office person corresponded a few times saying they only do that in person or over the phone. A week later I wrote and said I felt I was at a used car lot and the quote was being held for ransom by the salesman. The owner wrote back and told me rather rudely (I thought) that we wouldn't understand the quote so they need to do it in person but to please me he would have it sent on. I never received it!

I am the owner of the company which you reference in this review. I am deeply sorry to hear that your interpretation of our estimating process is a negative one. I reflected such in the personal email I wrote you on June 16th, 2014 at 9:43 AM. It is very important for future customers who read your review to have all the facts. Our estimator, Daniel Marchand came out and met with you, where he informed you that he would have your estimate together the following week and would be by in the afternoon the following week when the estimate was together. You guys relayed to him that was fine and that you were home all afternoon. The following Thursday June 12th, Erica in our office emailed you that your estimate was ready and requested the best day/time for Daniel to come by to meet with you to review it. You emailed back asking if you could just not get the quote because you did not want to give up a block of time. Erica then replied the following: "Our proposals are very detailed and rather lengthy, so it is our company policy to set up either a phone consultation or an in person appointment to walk through the estimate at length and answer any questions you may have. Please let me know which of the two you prefer and what day and times work best for your schedule." Your reply to Erica's email was, "If I have a phone consultation will I have an actual proposal to look at or will I have to take notes?" Erica replied yes, you would receive a pdf to review with Daniel over the phone and again asked which day and time would work best for you to do the phone consultation to which you did not reply. Erica followed up again with you the following day and received no reply. On the 16th of June, you wrote the following email to our office: "We have heard the sales pitch and have no questions at this point. We would like to see the proposal, and contact you with any questions we may have. If we cannot see it without another pitch along with it I think we will pass and share on Angie's list that you hold your proposals for ransom. We feel the same frustration as when trying to buy a car." I as the owner, then personally wrote back to you the following, in which I never made reference to you not being "smart enough to read a quote", nor did anything I wrote appear to be rude. If that is how you interpreted the following response, I truly apologize. "My name is Trevor Leeds, I am the president here at Chandler's Roofing. I understand there is some miscommunication about our estimation process. First and foremost, our intention is to help educate the customer through the entire roofing process, as most property owners have never gone through the re-roofing process, nor do they understand the varying materials, systems, manufacturer warranties and costs. Because of this, as a company policy, we typically elect to review your estimate with you in person or through a phone consultation. I assure you, this is not a car sales pitch, not are we holding estimates hostage. In fact, if you read through Angie's List, the majority of our customers give us overwhelming A reviews and they appreciate the personal and educational approach we take with each and every project. We handle your project as if it were our own family's roof. Undoubtedly, when you get all your estimates together, you will have questions and some confusion as to why a certain company is estimating a specific product, offering a certain warranty, or charging a specific price. Our process attempts to help you with those questions, while minimizing as much back and forth as possible between our project managers and our customer. Our project managers are working for free and risking themselves by getting up on your roof and measuring and inspecting. I urge you to look at the complete scope of work in your bids and compare warranties (specifically who is backing the warranties). That being said, we appreciate each and every customer giving us the chance to earn their business. I will instruct Erica to forward your estimate to you and Daniel or I are available to answer questions you may have." It is unfortunate that we were not given the chance to meet or discuss your project. It is also unfortunate that you perceive our estimating process to be a "car sales pitch". As the owner I assure you I will be evaluating this entire mishap with our staff. Overwhelmingly or customers rave about the time we spend with them through the process and the attention to the details we take, that almost no other contractor does for them. Truthfully, we approach every single job as if it were own Mother's house and that is how each and every staff member of Chandler's Roofing is trained. Undoubtedly, we make mistakes and are not perfect and as the owner I take responsibility for assessing our process when we go wrong. It is important to me though that the facts are heard and understood. Sorry again for not meeting your expectations... We will try harder the next time if you give us the chance.

They were an impressive group!! I selected Chandler's for the reviews on Angie's List and I wasn't disappointed. My neighbors even commented on the process from beginning to end. The "tear down crew" came on a Monday to remove the roof and when they left, there was not a single remnant from the old roof lying around....in other words, they came, they conquered, they cleaned. The next crew that came to complete the roof were prompt, gave attention to detail, and were respectful....in a word - Professional. We love our roof and have had neighbors state the same. Thank you Blake for your dedication and commitment to quality and to ensure customer satisfaction!! BTW - they did such a great job I don't think I'll ever need to replace my roof, but should I need too......Chandler's is who we'll call!
Description of Work: They replaced our roof, including the wood needing replacement, installed solar fans, gutters around the perimeter, and painted the facia.

It is not uncommon for our bids to be 20-30% higher than low bid roofers, but it is necessary to look at the total scope of work, warranties, secondary components, etc. Most of the time, customers become misled at the fact that the other 'roofer' is installing the same tile, shingle or roof membrane, but they are not offering the same underlayments, flashing components, workmanship and warranties to compliment the primary roofing product. Additionally, there are many roofing companies that exist today that operate in what we like to call the black market, meaning they are not properly licensed, insured, and bonded which are safeguards put in place to protect you as a home owner. Needless to say, we are sorry we couldn't earn your business and we hope your new roofing system works out for you. If any problems arise in the future, or if you can't track down your roofer in the future... You know who to call!

Calling up the front office was really easy and they were really easy to work with throughout the process. Ricardo arrived right on time for the appointment. He took the measurements for the gutters and I also asked him questions about our roof. He was really knowledgeable about everything. Once I accepted the contract, it took about 2-3 weeks to get the materials probably due to the specific color of the downspouts I had requested. All the work was completed within a day. The foreman and his crew was really easy to work with. Overall I am really satisfied with Chandler's roofing.

I couldn't be happier with the work these guys performed! Quality work from start to finish. I got a response for my initial inquiry in no time and Blake came out to give us a quote within a couple of days (he was originally scheduled for the next day but got rescheduled due to weather). Between Blake and Erica at the office, I got instant status updates before, during and after the construction and they provided all necessary information upfront. The crew did an excellent job of cleaning up after them, as not a nail was left behind on our property or our neighbors. I would definitely use these guys again and can recommend them to anyone in need of a new roof or repair.

Of the 4 quotes i received Chanlder provided me with the most comprehensive and affordable option. Professional and timely from the first moment of contact through angie's list i cannot reccommend them highly enough. All the other contractors took days to give me an estimate and did not call back immediately. Very llittle follow up. Chandlers was on top of the transaction from day 1 and in a world where time is the only commodity you cannot replace this becomes a very important asset when dealing with clients. These guys were AMAZAING! Blake came out and inspected the roof and gave $1,400 estimate. We were surprised at how much replacement work they did for $1,400. Other people felt we should replace the roof, but Blake NEVER said that was needed. He said minor repairs and we should be good to go. They offered to re-attach our slowly pulling away gutters as well. They came with a crew of 3-4 people and WOW they were done in one day. They matched the roof tile with the existing tile. They guys were honest and straight forward and did excellent work! They didn?t try and upsell to a much larger job and were honest that we just needed minor repairs. I appreciate that in today?s times!
Description of Work: We had lots of roof tile problems and tile that did no wear well with the weather. They replaced the top of the roof lines on both garage and house. They replaced all the bottom rows of tile on house and garage since the first row had rotted since 10 years ago it wasn't installed correctly.

We selected Chandler's roofing based on the numerous positive reviews on Angie's List as well as their competitive price. We're very happy we selected them. Throughout the entire process, the communication with Blake and the office staff was great. They were all very professional and great to work with. They were always quick to call back or email to respond to any question that I had. The job started and finished on time. The new roof looks great and the work appears to be high quality (no leaks, but we haven't been subjected to a good rainstorm yet in SoCal). My only negative comment is in regards to the team that Chandlers subcontracted to for the roof tear-off. I was home on the day off the tear-off and saw that numerous pieces of the roof would brush against the side of the house, marking up the paint. They seemed to make little effort to throw the material down onto the driveway or patio instead of landscaped areas with plants. However, Chandler's was great and took care of all the paint touch-up work that I requested after the roof was complete. At this time, we're still waiting on the final paperwork for the GAF golden pledge warranty. My understanding is that GAF has a schedule backlog and it can take several months before they can complete their final inspection. I've already had several people in the neighborhood comment about how great the roof looks and have recommended Chandler's to them.
Description of Work: Tear-off of existing composite shingle roof. Installation of a GAF Timberline High Definition Class "A" shingle roof. Price included optional Golden Pledge Warranty which includes 50yr material with no transfer fee, 25yrs labor, and GAF 40 point factory inspection of finished roof upon job completion.

Thank you so much for giving us the chance to earn your business. You selected the right roofing system which will protect your home and possessions for many years to come... Hassle free. In relation to the tear-off process, this is the ONLY portion of the work that we elect to subcontract depending on the backlog we have and we ONLY subcontract to one, very reputable tear-off/demolition company. We are very sorry for any debris that came off the roof. That being said, tear-off can be a tricky part of the business and no matter how much we prep and attempt to protect, materials tend to fall off the roof. We do the very best we can to protect everything on the property and when something like a scuffed wall occurs, we do our best to bring it back to its original condition when we started. Most of this is covered in our preparation for re-roof document which we provide to every customer before starting their roof project. Thank you again for your business and welcome to the Chandler's Family. If we can assist you in any other way in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us.

The ratings above apply only to our roof work. I could not fit into the rating system the job of removing and replacing 50 feet of fascia which involved also removing and replacing the gutter that was covering it. (*See below for note on that.) I found Chandler's Roofing on Angie's List and was impressed with the reviews. I knew we were very close to needing a new roof, as we had been maintaining our 30-year roof for 34 years. Daniel from Chandler's Roofing came out, examined the existing situation, and recommended replacement this year. Both my husband and I were impressed enough by him and the product he was offering that we decided to proceed without getting other bids (a very unusual occurrence for us which speaks highly of Daniel.) One of the reviews I read complained about the complexity of the contract. I conversely found that very helpful, because we knew what we were going to pay for each process. Speaking of cost, it's hard to rate almost $25K as"good", but our hope is that we've gotten value for our money. There are some things on which we might scrimp, but a roof is not one of them. I read both the contract and the warranty. Of course they are only as good as the companies writing them, but our hope is that both are around for the 50 years this roof is supposed to last. Actually, in our case I should almost use the plural. We have a slightly sloped roof around the perimeter of the house with a flat section in the center, so our contract was made more complex to accommodate two different processes. The job took 5 full days plus 2 days when 1-2 workers came to finish small tasks. Roof removal was intense. (Regarding the contract again, each layer was quoted with cost of removal.) At one point I think I counted 8 men up there. It seems the first roof (which was rock) had been glued directly to the wood, and then the second roof (fiberglass shingles) was laid on top of that. To remove everything required major pounding - enough, we discovered that night, to activate our gas earthquake shut-off valve! Some original plywood was in poor condition and needed to be replaced. The city inspector suggested we either replace more or add another layer of plywood, since our old roof was 3/8" vs 1/2" and had some soft spots. We added a second layer, which of course caused a jump in the price. Plywood is expensive! We also added a new platform for the AC unit and required a new rafter tail. The work progressed mostly as expected other than the previously-noted changes. I had picky little issues along the way due to miscommunications: I wanted a back deck covered so nothing slipped between the floor boards, as whatever fell in would sit on the underlying cement forever and, in the case of wood shavings, attract termites. However, after the removal day, I was the one who did the covering when sawdust began raining down on the deck. I think the men felt correctly that it would not damage the wood and could be blown away later, not understanding my rationale of slipping underneath. A small plant next to our driveway got trampled as men walked around a truck parked there. It was only after the second time I explained that it wasn't the plant that concerned me but the fact that it was placed so no one would stand there because there were breakable plastic drain pipes very close to the surface that they avoided the area. Would these small issues stop us from using the company again? No way. I mention them only to suggest careful communication on the homeowner?s part for little items not roof related. My husband and I are not experts regarding roofs, but these guys seem to be. I assume this roof will need maintenance, and we will continue to use Chandler's Roofing for any needs that arise. *Note regarding fascia - Our house created a unique set of circumstances: hillside going from 1 story in front to 4+ stories in back creating extremely difficult access, aluminum covering wood fascia with rotted sections, lots of windows out of which the fascia is very visible, a non-standard angle where it meets, bare minimum drop for gutters, etc. etc. This all created more problems and frustration than would occur with any reasonably normal house. Daniel made sure the work was completed to our satisfaction, and it would not be fair to diminish the rating for roof work because of these difficulties encountered and finally resolved. (I assume the gutters work. The only rain we?ve had since the work was done occurred at a time we weren?t in town, so I can't certify the gutter drainage. I'll amend this review once I know.) If we?d had anything resembling a normal house, I believe the entire process would have been rated ?A?.
Description of Work: Complete re-roof which included removal of 2 prior roofs. Also removal and replacement of 50 feet of fascia plus removal and re-installation of the gutter covering that fascia.

Mid-summer 2013 my wife and I purchased an older mid-50's single story, ranch-style home that had a nearly flat roof (very low slope) constructed with tar paper and white gravel; city records indicated the roof was at least 20 years old. I'm an electrical engineer who's done a lot of home repair over the years and I'd been on the roof to do my own inspection and noticed a number of issues. My wife and I knew we had to make repairs before the wet season. We made some calls and Chandler's Roofing promptly sent out an inspector. I got on the roof with the inspector and he pointed out other issues that I was not aware of. He took measurements to estimate square footage for repair, and we discussed repair options based upon our roof slope. I felt the inspector was quite thorough, honest in his initial conversation and in communicating the various repair options and costs. Two days later, I received a multi-option quote from Chandler's roofing. We had specifically arranged to provide a financial comparison of repair options, their expected lifetimes, materials and installation times. The quote contained fixed costs based on square footage measurements and an range of "estimated" cost of potentially bad lumber that might be encountered once the roof repair began. Chandler's roofing based the range of "estimated" cost from their work history with houses of similar age. Finally, the provided a list of other homes in the local area which they had repaired; my wife and I drove around to visually inspect the quality of work & materials. My wife and I opted for the IB-style roof with a 60-mil thickness, and also had 2-inch insulation option installed to insulate the house. When you've purchased an expensive home, a good roof is like buying an insurance policy. Worked commenced on a monday; the entire old roof disappeared within 4 hours. That same morning, I was on the roof with the inspector, examining the subroof for damaged lumber. Small areas were of damaged lumber were discovered, which is expected for a roof structure erected almost 60 years ago, but the majority of our house was in excellent shape. We also discovered and removed two old vent structures that were original flues for wall-mounted gas heaters (the house now has central heat). In addition, we removed the original kitchen stove vent (previous owners remodeled the kitchen) and repaired the central heating exhaust flue. Finally, the roofing foreman pointed out the the most disturbing discovery of our roof repair - the bathroom exhaust vents failed to pass through the roof. Contractors working for the previous homeowners took a shortcut, and vented the bathroom humidity into the attic, which is very bad for flat roofs due to circulation. We modified our quote to add two new vents for the bathrooms. The new roof was completed five days later accomodating all the discoveries that occurred. Total cost came in at approximately $21K within 10% of original estimate so we felt Chander's roofing had done an excellent job preparing our repair quote. In the last four months, we've noticed that the new roof does an excellent job of reducing the temperature fluctuations inside the home from daytime to evening. Now that the weather has cooled off, our roof keeps the house warm, and helps save on gas bills. We're very happy with our new roof (and it even makes a cool pitter patter sound when it rains, which reminds me of growing up in Florida. I sleep really well with that sound.) We've recommended Chandler's Roofing to several of our neighbors who commented on our new roof.
Description of Work: Chandler's Roofing performed a complete roof teardown and rebuild on our house.

I couldn't believe I went with the highest bidder, but i'm glad I did. They were very professional, actually started the job a week early! They did everything they promised and more! They even checked with the neighbors (plural) to see if there was any cleanup needed in their yards (plural) from the job. Daniel is an excellent project manager. The only surprise was the ladder that was left in my driveway for the inspector (required by the city). They did show up right away when the inspector had left. I would not hesitate to have them roof my next house if that ever happens. By the way, they are the highest because they use the best materials.
Description of Work: Absolutely excellent job replaced entire roof on house and garage.

Thank you for the kind review and know that we appreciate you giving us the chance to earn your business. Knowing that we under promised and over delivered is important... This is what we try to preach to our team. Quality workmanship and high quality roofing materials are not cheap, but in the end you will pay much less for a quality roof as you will not have the repairs, damages, re-roof, etc. Welcome to the Chandler's Roofing Family and please, do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or referrals you might have.

Strong and professional sales presentation by company President and eventual project manager. Worked hard to mitigate premium pricing of selected roofing material (a PVC-based single-ply roofing system). Also provided a tempting solar bid (which ultimately went to another company). Late start due to coordination issues with city inspectors (which I felt could have been avoided), but completed work per the revised schedule. Foreman and crew were courteous and available to answer homeowner questions. Homeowner is extremely pleased with overall work and result.

Glad we were able to complete the project as promised and apologize for any delays that occurred. Sometimes we are at the mercy of the city inspectors and unfortunately in this case, the city sent all their inspectors to a conference the day we were hoping for deck inspection. We are very pleased with the outcome of the project however and though we wished we had also got your solar business, we were happy to work with the solar company you chose. We are confident you will be much happier with the IB roof system you chose, rather that the roof coating you were originally considering... Especially come summer time!

Overall a good experience. Daniel, our project manager, was organized and easy to work with. I appreciated his attention to detail, especially with the initial bid. I was also given an accurate timeline for completion. The roofers were very professional, and worked diligently each day throughout the project. The final product looked good. I cannot speak to the quality of the roof at this point, as too little time has passed and it has not really rained yet.

Chandler's was very easy to work with getting the quote and setting up a time frame for the work to be done. The work was done quickly and professionally. The workers cleaned up after themselves and there was minimal debris left over when all was said and done.
