Giddens Brothers

For over 30 years we have used the same HVAC contractor. Nine years previously they installed a new unit with a copper condenser. It failed 4 times and cost $1,000+ for labor and it was time to replace it. We asked for bids and Giddens Brothers had the most solutions and best price. Paul Giddens thoroughly educated us on all our alternatives and suggested a manufacturer that had an aluminum condenser that cost about $1,000 less then we paid 9 years earlier. The next week two very professional technicians installed a new unit and inspected all ducts, registers. They found air leakage in all locations and sealed all registers. How come it took over 30 years to find these problems? We are now a very pleased Giddens Brothers customer.

I first bought 2 HVAC systems with Giddens almost 5 years ago. The quote was a little high, but I really liked Paul and it seemed like we should go with someone we trusted. And the beginning was good. The people who installed our system were great. I still hold them in high regard. It was the rest of the experience in the years that followed that bring me to this F rating. I am four months before my warranty ends. I have spent 27,000 all I have to show for it, is three leaking air conditioning systems. 2 high end systems still under warranty with leaks, one heater that mysteriously turns off when it get really cold and you have to go into the basement to reset the moisture sensor that has no moisture. I realize, that despite quite a few service visits, I have never had a problem fixed. Not a single problem. I had one tech who taught me how to reset the sensor in my basement but not fix it. I have had several techs who have refilled freon but claim that we have to wait until the systems don’t’ work again to diagnose the rest. Lots of visits, seriously delayed billing (two bills took over five months between when the service was given and the bill was received) and lot of frustration, but not a single fixed problem. While they have a good reputation on Angie’s list, they haven’t had a review in two years. When I look at Yelp reviews over the last two years I see my story repeated over and over again. I had a leak, they came and put coolant in it, and never followed up. Didn’t return my calls. Five years in, I don’t get to talk to Paul. I have gotten the super grumpy brother who is downright mean. I have gotten the incompetent office support who can’t return a call for literally a week in a heat wave. And I am told they are really busy, but I am unsure with who can get these appointments because for me, they don’t pick up the phone. Don’t be fooled by the charismatic Paul, he can’t save you from the rest of the staff and I am embarrassed I didn’t stop this insanity of trying to get their help earlier. I called a new company today. They will have someone out tomorrow morning. I don’t have a relationship with them, but they know how to pick up the phone. They will tell me what my bills is before they start the work, not five months after the work is performed. They will follow up on a leaking freon system in two weeks, not kick it down the line for years- all that and the office staff is friendly. That is how it should work. Spend your money elsewhere. Giddens just isn’t worth it.

They responded quickly, added refrigerant and added dye to test the system for leaks. The cost was high, but only because the refrigerant used by my system is extremely expensive for them to buy as it is being phased out.

A quote was provided in a very timely fashion. All questions were answered promptly and fully. The selected stove and accessories were ordered on schedule as promised. The installation crew arrived on time and proceeded to install the unit in a very professional fashion. Generous amounts of floor covering was employed to keep all dirt and residue off our floors and carpet. All residue from the installation was cleaned up and the floors left as clean if not cleaner than before their arrival. They helped me to move the old (way heavy) stove to the shop. A full and very thorough explanation was given as to the functionality of the stove and remote unit. All questions were answered. The unit performs as advertised and expected. We are very happy with our purchase. We happily recommend Giddens Brothers and will gladly consult them for any future needs.

The guy is local. I've got it somewhere. I am very happy with him, too. They were professional, efficient and quick. They did a great job. I like the fact that they are a small business and it is a world of personal service. They were here when they're supposed to be. They did exactly what they said they would do. I thought the cost was really good. I think theirs was one of the best for what they did. I would definitely use them in the future.

Let me first say I shopped this project starting in Elk grove where I didn't get much service and found out the only do the inserts and do not run the gas line. The Elk Grove shop I visited gave me a list of plummers to get the gas line done before I get the insert. I called 3 different plumbers and they priced (just the gas line) $1800-$900 most of them with out a permit pricing. When I went o Giddens they were full service I pointed at the insert I liked and they sent out a guy to price it all inc the gas line...which was $300 with the permit that they got for me and had all the inspections done. My fireplace looks good! Its ben over a year since I got this and called when I seemed to be having a starter issue. They knew exactly what I was talking about and ordered a part to fix the problem and came out and installed at no charge. It was just a manufacturer glitch but it was nice to get it fixed quickly when it was cold out. I love the fireplace insert it keeps my family room toasty in my large house 2400 sq feet it does a good job of getting the whole place warm I maybe kicked on my heater 3x this winter for just a qucker fix.

Went very well. Jason was the installer..very responsive and on time. Answered all our questions. Giddens Brothers is dependable and professional. The purchase was a natural gas fireplace insert by Regency.

In my small rental business, when I have needed someone fast, dependable and trustworthy I have always called these guys. I have been doing business with them for over 15 years.

It has been two months since the installation with no problems.

I called another company when my a/c system failed during a hot spell, and was told they could make it in 3 days. I then called Gibbens, who told me they'd be there within a 5-hour window in 24 hours. They were. The technician, "Nick," was very prompt, courteous, and professional. He found the problem in about 5 minutes (bad starting condenser for the motor) and had it fixed in about another five. I can't say the cost was "excellent'" because all such services are sky-high these days, but given the quality of service and promptness (again, during a hotspell), I'm okay with it. I'll remember Gibbens when and if I need future HVAC service.

I found Giddens Brothers on Angie's List as a highly rated company, plus very close to where we had just bought a home. I called, told the person what all I needed done, and set up an appointment within a couple of days to get miscellaneous things done that were recommended by the home inspector. The serviceman arrived on time-- actually a few minutes early-- and was friendly and professional. He was able to do all the things on the list except light the pilot light on the water heater, as it turned out the propane company had not unlocked the tank yet. He very efficiently went about his business, got all the work done quickly, diagnosed the problem with the shower diverter and advised we hire a plumber for that job. I appreciated his honesty in passing on the shower repair and recognizing I needed to get a licensed plumber for that. He also installed a new easy-to-read thermostat and took the time to give me a tutorial on how to program it, etc. Cost was less than I was expecting, compared to the initial inspection we had done. I LOVE a company who arrives on time for appointments! I can't stress enough how important that is to me: all of us clients have busy schedules, too. Good job! You are now my new Heating and A/C company!

Giddens Brothers servicemen wereprofessional, knowledgeable, efficient, friendly, and very, very clean. The heater and air conditioner are top quality, and are working wonderfully well. Bill Giddens even filled out the rebate paperwork for me. I am very satisfied, and will be taking out a yearly service contract with them.

Overall, the job went very well. They were very prompt and they got the job started right away. They finished the job within a few days like they said that they would. They handled all the paper work for me regarding the rebate and things like that.

He showed up on time for the estimate, on a Saturday morning and gave us a quote for exactly what we wanted. We look forward to using Gidden Brothers for our new HVAC system. They were on of 4 companies that we asked for quotes from. We got the estimate in less than a week from the onsite visit, while the others took much longer or we never received the estimate at all. We definitely recommend considering Gidden Brothers for your HVAC work. Once the project is complete we will write more about the job that they do.

PG+E could not find the problem, but Gidden Brothers found it, ordered the part, and fixed the problem. I have tenants that are h****** the heating and air due to constant use. I have been using them for at least five years and have no complaints. I have had different workers come in thru the years and have found them to be honest and willing to explain in detail what is wrong and how to avoid problems in the future.

It was good. They gave us a good price. They were very polite and did a nice job.

They were very honest every time. They have done small repairs as well at a minimal cost. They now have a yearly plan to check the air and heating. I am planning to add that service. Their customer service is great!

Did a great job and would recommend Giddens to my neighbors. Received my SMUD and PG and E rebates in a timely manner with their help.

The work they did was very good and I had no complaints about it at all but I really thought their prices were rather expensive. They charge for very minimal things and the bill increases very quickly.

I HAVE USED THEIR SERVICES BEFORE. I THOUGHT THAT THEY DID EXCELLENT WORK AND I ALSO THINK THAT THEY ARE VERY HONEST PEOPLE. THEY HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG AGAINST ME.
