kyle is always on time....never late even once and he had to return to our home many times not only to get the job done (i kept adding on more "jobs" for him to do!), but also to help with the installation of our quartz countertops. the project went well with a minimum of inconvenience for us.
Description of Work: kyle remodeled my kitchen by opening up a wall to create an open concept situation. he installed cabinets, changed some electrical outlets, created a niche under our stairway for our television equipment, installed two chandeliers and reinstalled our kitchen sink, faucet and stove when the countertops came in.

A tenant crashed their car through the back of their carport and damaged the structure of the building. I left Kyle a message in the evening and next morning got a call from Kyle and he came out and provided a bid the same day. I had another company come out same day and provide a bid next day, only their bid was more than double Kyle's bid. It was very clear that the other company was trying to take advantage of the fact this was going to be an insurance claim. For this reason I went with Kyle. I explained to Kyle that we were concerned about the safety of the building and were looking to get the building secured while we were trying to get information over to the insurance company. Kyle came out within a few hours and secured the building and started the job the next day which was friday of labor day weekend. Kyle agreed to work the labor day weekend in order to complete most of the job. Kyle had 3 additional guys come out on that saturday and 1 guy worked Sunday applying another coat of stucco. Overall I am very happy with the response from Kyle and his crew. The job was completed in a timely fashion. He got the paint color to match great and made sure to paint the whole wall and not just the section repaired. Thanks Kyle!
Description of Work: A section of our carports was severaly damaged when a tenant drove their car through the building detaching the back wall from the base. A section of back wall of the carport had to be completely demolished and rebuilt including the frame, new stucco, and painted. Carport storages had to be rebuilt.

Kyle and his crew (Arturo and Salvador) were very responsive and punctual. They did an excellent job, making sure everything was level and square. They showed up on time each day and did a thorough job cleaning up. Kyle made sure I was happy with all the little details, which I appreciate greatly. I highly recommend Kyle, Arturo and Salvador.
Description of Work: Relocate front door, which included tearing out drywall, studs and stucco, reframing the front door, drywall, texture, stucco and paint. Also, relocate porch light, doorbell, outlets and switches. Also, tear out slate on porch, grind to level and float concrete filler to match existing floor.
Description of Work: I am the Founder of Coastal Custom Wine Cellars.I needed contractor services and found Kyle Beym on Angie's List. Kyle and his team assisted in the renovation and conversion of a bathroom to a refrigerated wine cellar. About a 9' x 6' x 8' area. Kyle is responsive and punctual provided the quality and craftsmanship I needed. I recommend Kyle's services for any remodel or rennovation.
As I mentioned above, this was a great introduction to a contractor with good reviews but unknown to my husband and I. We have 2 very good contractors that we work with but in this case they could not come close to Kyle's cost. I will remember him again when we need additional work done.
Description of Work: When I saw the deal for a contractor for a week on Angies List, I grabbed it up, knowing that I had waited a long time to get my small old bathroom remodeled. WOW, was I ever happy!!! When we had the entire house remodeled, for some reason this bathroom seemed ok and we did nothing to it...well, years later I could have kicked myself. But with Angies List and Kyle Beym, I ended up with just what I needed and just what I wanted. Kyle is a very patient individual and knows what you need when you explain it to him. He did an absolutely perfect job on this very small bath. He knew enough to turn the door to make more space, layed hardwood flooring, removed the tiled floor and walls and sink and toilet and installed new ones. He only left the fun part for me....the painting! I actually love to paint, so this was our agreement. I would use him aggain on any project I have around the house. He is honest and has good workers.

Kyle did a very good job. Even the garage door company who came a few days later to install the new roll-up garage door when out of their way to comment on what an neat, solid, square and even opening Kyle made. They were really pleased that he made their installation go very smoothly. The newly placed access door is great, he did a really nice job, he also had to move electric and install new exterior lighting - all looks and functions perfectly. Kyle is professional, very prompt and estimated the time/materials for the job very accurately. He started when he said he would, he performed the work and finished exactly when he said he would. And they cleaned up nicely after themselves when the job was finished. I was very happy with Kyle, highly recommend him and will certainly use him again.
Description of Work: 1) Expanded and completely re-framed opening for new roll-up garage door. Original door was built in 1940s, only approx 14' wide. Kyle cut out and reframed an opening for standard 18' double garage door. 2) Relocated 32" access door to garage to other side of building. Involved cutting opening in stucco wall, framing new doorway, moving electric, installing prehung door and custom cutting/installing door stoop. 3) Replaced window in garage with new window that was larger. Involved expanding opening, custom building/installing window stool and new window installation. He even primed everything even though I didn't expect that would be included.

Kyle came to my house on the first day with 3 of his workers. We had agreed that they would sand, spackle, apply texture, paint, install a bathroom vanity, a shower door and a ceiling fan. But, the second day, Kyle sent just 2 of the workers. They did not remove hardware on the walls, but painted around it, they did not sand or apply texture, they installed the light switches upside down, they drilled two holes in my ceiling that did not fit the ceiling fan they were installing and just left them, they applied only one coat of paint and they were going to leave until I complained to Kyle. When they installed the bathroom vanity, they put the faucet handles so close to the wall that I could not turn the water off all the way. When the pulled the lever to engage the stopper in the sink, it would not open. I had to have other professionals in to repair the work that Kyle had done incorrectly. Kyle told me that he would send me a check for $100 to pay for the plumber to repair the work done in the bathroom. I have pictures showing the holes left in my ceiling, of where they left a one inch margin around electrical outlets because they did not want to take the time to remove them to paint properly, of where they chipped the tile floor in my bathroom and did not repair the damage they did, and where there should have been a piece of floor molding that they did not replace. I have kept all the e-mails that were written between Kyle and me and I plan using those plus the pictures of the shoddy work to report him to the Better Business Bureau. Because of the terrible experience I had with Kyle, I no longer use Angie's list and when people have come to my house to see the work that was done have said that it was a mistake trusting that Angie's list screened their professionals before posting their offers. In my opinion, you should remove Kyle's offer from your list as soon as possible.
Description of Work: They agreed to install a bathroom vanity, shower door, light fixtures, electrical connections, and plumbing connections, and ceiling fan that I purchased. and they were to Spackle and repair texture where needed on walls before applying two coats of paint. I paid an additional $500.00 because Kyle said that it would take more than 40 hours to complete the work that needed to be done.

The customer had bad experiences with the two previous contractors that had worked for her. One had finished some exterior work and the other, who had worked on the interior, had been dismissed. He hadn't a chance to finish a number of things and various parts of the house were left in varying degrees of completion. I did agree to work for the customer initially as she had purchased one of my coupons from Angie's List. I went to view the work and submitted a bid, stating that I thought the work would extend beyond the 40 hours which the coupon comprised. I submitted an estimate for the remaining work based on time and materials. She agreed to the work and we scheduled a start date. Over the next few weeks before the commencement, we exchanged emails as she added work, subtracted work, then added a few other things. I updated the bid according. As the start date grew near she rescheduled twice as she was still unsure about a few things. As work started, we took pictures of the unfinished work that was left by the previous contractor, some of it was on our list for completion, some was not. As the work started, she grew trepidatious and work contact me via text and email until midnights at times, questioning whether or not we were going to do certain things. I reassured her that we would complete all the work as stipulated by the contract and if they were anything in addition, we'd be happy to take care of it for her. Half way through the work, she sent a cryptic text message in the middle of the night regarding the next day's work. Upon arrival the next day, she wouldn't let us in to work (this work was two hours away). So, we returned home and counted the day as a loss. I contacted her later that day, we seemed to work out our differences, and we returned the following day. We spent another two days wrapping up the agreed upon work. I'm sure that we didn't finish all the work that was left by the previous contractor as she continually revised the bid even as we were working for her. There were things that I'm sure weren't seen until walking through it for a few days. However, we did finish the agreed upon work, even as it was a very trying experience for myself and my workers.

All of the work done by Kyle and his team was completed on time and with an unprecedented degree of professionalism from start to finish. First, Kyle arrived on time and spoke to me about the work I was seeking to have done. We discussed my budget and settled upon a work plan that fit my needs. Second, Kyle promptly sent me a proposal outlining the costs associated with the work he would do if I chose his company. Of course, I selected his bid. Third, Kyle's staff arrived on time and worked diligently throughout the day. Although the project took a bit longer than initially anticipated, the staff stayed and completed the work at the agreed upon price. We are delighted with the result and would hire Kyle and his team for additional projects going forward.
Description of Work: I hired Kyle and Company to do a few tasks, including the demolition of a brick chimney, removal of a sliding glass door, enclosure of two wall spaces and rewiring of electrical wiring.
They showed up on time, worked all day, did what they said they were going to do, offered ideas and suggestions to help improve the projects, came in on budget and on time, and at the end, everything looked fantastic, very professional from beginning to end. Could not be happier, in fact, the bathrooms look better than we could have ever imagined. A first for us using a contractor! We have used several in the past and have not been lucky with our choices. This time, we lucked out - finally!
Description of Work: Kyle and his crew remodeled 2 bathrooms, demo, electrical work, installed can lights, vanity lights, tile work, flooring, baseboards, plumbing, installed vanities, sinks, tub, and shower fixtures, doors, interior painting. Plus, hallway baseboards and interior lighting fixtures. Also, repaired/replaced the exterior main water turn off valve.

We contacted Kyle Beym through an Angie's List special we had purchased. Although Kyle showed up at the appointed hour, it quickly became apparent to us that he lacked the skills needed to perform the work we wanted done. We needed to have an attached awning rebuilt, which he was willing to do. However, he mentioned right off that he didn't do painting, and that we would have to make other arrangements for that. There was also some minor roof repair involved - "I don't do roofing" we were told. Finally, there was a brick planter beneath the awning that was cracked which we also wanted to have rebuilt. Once again, we were told "I don't do masonry". With such a limited skill set, we thought it kind of a stretch for Kyle to be advertising himself as a "general contractor", so we cancelled the special and got our money refunded. In general, we were very disappointed in the whole presentation of this "special". We understood that the cost of materials would be extra, and we were okay with that. As it turned out, we also had to take responsibility for getting all of the materials delivered. I pointed out to Kyle that we both had to work for a living and that we wouldn't be able to take time off of work to run down to Home Depot at a moments notice whenever they ran out of something. Kyle replied that he would be willing to "help us out with that", but that seemed just a little too vague for us. We told Kyle that we wanted someone who was going to take responsibility for all aspects of the job, and that the terms of the "special" were not acceptable. Kyle seems like a decent, personable guy, but even if his skill set weren't so limited, we likely would not have given him our business. He simply did not impress us as being professional. When he showed up for the estimate, he mentioned that he'd missed our street on the first pass because he was busy talking on the phone - probably not the best thing to share with a potential customer. He then proceeded to take some measurements of the awning we wanted to have rebuilt - with his feet. Seriously - he heeled-and-toed it all the way across the driveway. He had apparently forgotten his tape measure.
Description of Work: No actual services were performed.

Member purchased a coupon for work that was set up to provide a customer with labor only. The coupon works well for some people, but not for everyone. Unfortunately, Member didn't read the coupon before purchasing it, nor did he contact me to check my skill set before the purchase as many other clients had done. Additionally, there did seem to be some communication problems with Member. While I didn't do roofing at the time, I do some masonry work, but I definitely do painting and had verbally offered him an additional bid to paint the house. What I did say was that it's probably not a good use of the 40 hours to have me rebuild a brick planter as I'm not a mason and it would take me quite a bit longer to perform the task as compared to a mason. For purposes of estimation, my hand width measures 10" and my foot length 12". I've never had any mock me for estimating in that manner; rather, most people are impressed.

I have been extremely happy with the job! Kyle is very easy to work with. He calls me back promptly, explains things well, and makes sure that his workers understand the project. His workers are very polite to me and are very careful and respectful with my home and belongings. Their work is very neat, precise, and thoughtfully done adding nice little touches I would have never thought of. They had a lot of extra work to do, as well, as they were coming in on the heels of a very bad contractor who had all but ruined the inside of my house. I'm truly impressed with Kyle and his team. They are true professionals.
Description of Work: I had a complete kitchen remodel and a complete bathroom remodel. I also had a whole house water filtration system put in as well as electrical issues repaired. Both kitchen and bath were completely gutted and appliances and fixtures repositioned. Both rooms had extensive tile work done, and both rooms had plumbing and electrical repositioned.
Description of Work: We have had Oscar, Gregorio and Gerald here for almost four months now. They had to begin remedial work left by an unsatisfactory experience with a previous individual. They are very talented, hard working and professional- and very pleasant to have around on a daily basis.Their work is excellent in all areas. They show initiative and exhibit a great deal of thoughtful competence. We are contining going to do other projects here and are relying on their expertise. We do not have a specific price - but work hourly- which suits both of us.I bought the introductory coupon for a week and was impressed with Kyle when he visited. He clearly stated - what they did NOT do - unlike some who promised the sky.Actually, as it turns out they have done MORE than I expected.I hope they will also assist us at Mammoth Lake when we are finished here.My husband and I recommend them highly.

Kyle's crew, Francisco and his son, did a great job. They arrived every day on time, were personable, and worked diligently and completely each day. They always cleaned up at the end of each day and prepared for the next day's work. All work was meticulously executed, detailed, and completed as scheduled. We are very happy with our new bathroom, intend to use him again, and would recommend Kyle and his crew without hesitation.

This job involved a series of small repair jobs, some larger than others. I am amazed that Kyle Beym can do so many repair jobs for such a reasonable price, especially when each job is so well done. Kyle is a real craftsman who does superb work whether it is drywall, painting, electrical repairs, masonry, carpentry or any unusual repair one might have. This is the third job Kyle has done for us, and we will always call him for our construction needs. The first job was the most challenging--also documented on this site a couple years ago. We literally had a very large hole (two feet by two feet) in the front of our house from a small, long-term leak. It was a horrible mess, but Kyle managed to repair it perfectly--inside and out. I'll always remember his good work when we needed it most. Kyle Beym is a conscientious, honest person whom anyone would want to have in their house. I cannot recommend him too highly.
Description of Work: Kyle performed a variety of services: --repairing the inside of a closet and installing shelves;--installing drywall in hall closet ceiling and patching walls;--painting walls, shelves and pipes inside closet;-- installing a new pedestrian door and new hardware in garage; --replacing dimmer switch in living room; --re-setting loose walkway tiles in front walk and back patio;--cleaning and replacing all grout on back patio and front walkway;--priming and painting exterior pipes and equipment from recent installation of tankless hot water system;--installing new lock on bedroom door--re-grouting areas on kitchen counter granite--repairing broken piece on large bed (carpentry) Each of these jobs was done carefully and well.

I had contact Kyle to do some odd jobs around my lease property he was able to provide me with a quote right away and schedule his crew out to my property to do the work relatively quickly, however his crew's job was kind of sloppy and there was a misunderstanding of the work to be perform. After getting in contact with Kyle and straighten things out with him Kyle was able to come back to my property and get the work done himself. My overall experience is good I would recommend to have someone there to supervise the work just in case, Kyle was easy to work with.

We are very happy with the results and the patio cover looks great. There is one area of cement overcoat on one of the columns that doesn't quite match the adjacent overcoat because it was done by a different worker the following day. I assume Kyle would redo it if I asked him to do so. Overall we are very happy and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

After 20 years, the iron between the bricks in the front yard started to fall part, so we decide to have the whole brick wall removed. We were worried about how the front yard would look without the wall, i.e. would there be uneven pavement of soil or concrete, so we asked Kyle a lot of questions. And Kyle was very responsive and very prompt. He answered all of our questions and updated us with pictures over the phone as each phase. After his crew knocked down first section of the brick wall, he immediately text me the pictures showing the concrete foundation, so we can have an idea what it will look like after. And he took picture after his crew completed the work. It feels great to be able to know what's going on, especially when you are stuck at work. From the pictures, it is clear that his crew cleaned up after themselves. We are glad that we pick him as our contractor/handyman.

From my point of view the project went great. It may have been a bit frustrating for Kyle because the gate kit was not complete and he needed to make a couple of extra trips to Lowes, but I am very pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Kyle installed a gate to my backyard. I had purchased a "gate kit" that was not complete. Kyle was able to make it all work and now I have great looking gate.
Kyle and his worker were precisely on time both days they worked. They arrived at 8 am and worked till 5. This was an office that hadn't been updated in 28 years. Built-in bookshelves were taken down and wallpaper stripped. The walls needed some patching and were also primed. They painted the room, ceiling and door and put in a new door handle and lock. They pulled up the old carpet and installed the new flooring and baseboards. Kyle also put together a new desk and large bookcase for me after I decided not to put back the old shelving. They were neat and cleaned up each day. Kyle was very professional and a pleasure to work with. There were no hidden costs and his original estimate was the final cost. I highly recommend him and will not hesitate to use him on other projects.
Description of Work: Built-in book shelves covered the room and they were removed. 28 yr. old wallpaper was removed and the walls were treated, patched and primed. The walls and ceiling were painted. The carpet was removed and the new flooring and baseboards were installed. The office door was painted and a new lock was installed. Kyle also put together the new desk and wall-to-wall bookcase that I bought after deciding not to rehang the old shelving or keep the old desk. There are lots of wires and a few routers in the office for computers, and TV's from not only the office, but the adjoining den. I needed these to stay plugged in while they worked and they put plastic around this big mess so everything stayed clean. They worked around it.

I purchased the coupon for $1500 fr 40 hours of service. So I call to try to schedule a day. The guy is like "I'm doing a job right now, how about in 3 weeks or so". I tell him "sure" and wait to hear about a start day. So he calls me in a little more than 3 weeks and is like "we're done. We'll start tomorrow." I told him no, I was waiting to hear about a firm date so I could make plans to be there. We then agreed they could start that next Monday. They (or his subcontractors) came the next Monday to work. The work was great. They did a fine job. Now when I initially met Kyle, he said my work might go over but he would let me know. Well, he didn't. After two additional days on the job, Kyle sends me a bill for the additional hours which he never gave me an estimate of how many extra hours there would be, nor what the price would be. He sends me a bill for an extra $1500. A bill I had NO IDEA was coming. Needless to say, I ended what they were doing as soon as they finished with my bathroom and ended the job. The sub-contractors he used were excellent workers, but Kyle has no idea how to conduct business. FOLLOW UP TO THE COMPANY RESPONSE: I ASK THAT YOU READ HIS EMAIL. THE EMAIL STATES " We finished up the 40 hrs today at noon. Which leaves 8 hours today, un-billed at $50/hr, 4 hrs each worker. " BY HIS OWN ADMISSION, HE DID NOT CONTACT ME UNTIL HIS PEOPLE HAD ALREADY DONE $400 DOLLARS MORE WORK. THAT WAS A TOTAL SURPRISE THAT PRICE. IF I HAD ENDED IT RIGHT THERE, WHICH I WANTED TO, I WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY $400 MORE THAN I HAD ANTICIPATED BECAUSE HE WAS JUST THEN GIVING ME THE PRICE FOR ADDITIONAL HOURS. HE NEVER DISCUSSED THE PRICE FOR ADDITIONAL HOURS WITH ME BEFORE WE STARTED. NEVER. WHICH IS WHY HE SENDS THAT EMAIL. READ THE EMAIL. IF HE HAD DISCUSSED THE PRICE WITH ME AHEAD OF TIME, WHY WOULD HE SEND AN EMAIL SAYING WHAT A DEAL HE WOULD GIVE ME IF I CONTINUED? I DID NOT FINISH THE LIST OF ITEMS. BUT I HAD TO FINISH WHAT THE WORKERS WERE DOING SINCE BY THAT TIME THE BATHROOM WAS IN PIECES. THAT RAN ME AN ADDITIONAL $1100 ON TOP OF THE $400, FOR A TOTAL OF $1500. YES, I WAS TAKEN ABACK. HE NEVER GAVE ME A BREAKDOWN OF WHAT I COULD EXPECT TO PAY ON TOP OF THE COUPON. HE KEPT SAYING HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME AND NEVER DID. AND THEN HAD THE NERVE, AFTER WORK WAS DONE, TO SAY "you now owe me $400". AND YES, I ASKED HIM TO TAKE A CREDIT CARD. I SUGGESTED HE SET HIMSELF UP TO TAKE CC'S AND SUGGESTED WAYS TO DO IT. I PAID THE CREDIT CARD PROCESSING FEE, AND HE NOW HAS AN ADDITIONAL WAY TO ACCEPT PAYMENT FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS. IT'S CALLED BUSINESS, KYLE, NOT A FAVOR TO ME. HE ALSO DEMANDED I TAKE THE REPORT OFF ANGIE'S LIST. I EXPLAINED MY PROBLEM, YET HE TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT HE DID. HE MESSED UP. READ THE EMAIL. HE CHARGED ME EXTRA AFTER DOING THE WORK WITH ME HAVING NO IDEA IT WAS COMING. THAT IS WHAT EVERY PERSON IS TERRIFIED OF WHEN WORKING WITH A CONTRACTOR. AND IT EXACTLY WHAT HE DID. BY HIS OWN ADMISSION IN THE EMAIL. CASE CLOSED.

Response from Kyle Beym Home Improvement
While the "last minute phone call" is true, little else of Member negative report is. She seemed quite anxious to have the work done, so when I had a last minute cancellation, I gave her a call. I let her know that if it didn't work for her, we could schedule something for the following week. Prior to the commencement of the work, she and I met and we walked through the proposed work. I mentioned to her that her list seemed like it would take more than the 40 hours to accomplish. I gave her the hourly rate for additional time and told her that she could discontinue the work at anytime if she felt like she didn't have any extra money to continue or simply just wished to stick to the 40 hours. Member was present for the work as was I and we reviewed the job with her daily. As the 40 hours came to a close, I sent her the following email to keep her apprised of the schedule: On Wed, Mar 7, 2012 at 5:35 PM, kylebeym wrote: Hello Member, As we had projected, there's a bit more work beyond the 40 hrs. So, I wanted to send an email to confirm that you'd like to proceed. We finished up the 40 hrs today at noon. Which leaves 8 hours today, un-billed at $50/hr, 4 hrs each worker. If they were both to return tomorrow I could offer them both for $80/hr, instead of the one at $50/hr. The tiling would get done much faster that way. They'll need tomorrow to get the tiling done, then one for Friday to apply the grout and take care of other details, such as the silicone where the tile meets the tub. This is what I have as projected additional costs: Materials to date: $90 Wednesday: $400 Thursday: 2 workers, $640 Friday: 1 worker, $400 If you'd like I can offer the two workers again for Friday at $80/hr if you like to get some other things done, such as the front porch light, etc. Let me know. Have a great night. Regards, Kyle Member chose to continue with the work as she could see clearly that we weren't finished and she had a proposal for the remainder of the work beyond the 40 hours. Upon completion of the work, she was presented with an invoice. She seemed taken aback and stated that she didn't have the money to pay for it. She asked if I accepted credit cards and I let her know that I didn't, but that I could look for a service if she liked. She said that she would, so I did and after a few hours of research I found something. She seemed grateful and submitted her payment. Consequently, I feel her report to be unmerited and therefore unjust. I went above and beyond to be accommodating to her only to be repaid four months later with a spiteful report.

We were on a time constraint with our kitchen remodel and the framing he did for us really saved us some time and money. He did have to go downtown and get the permits for us to do the work. We really felt he went out of his way as he is out in Fullerton and we are in Los Angeles. He made sure everything was done right with the engineer in the Valley. His services were just exceptional. I think that he cared about the customer as well as his work. We really appreciate that. We will defiantly use his services again in the future.

I had a leak from the bathroom into the basement below. Kyle opened up the ceiling, and located the leak to a worn-out gasket on the tub overflow. He repaired the overflow, and then closed up the ceiling, finishing it to be undistinguishable from the surrounding ceiling. I also asked Kyle to paint the front of the house, and he did and excellent job. Kyle was on-time, did excellent work, did a good clean-up job, and was very cooperative. I would and will use Kyle again.
