The initial sales experience and design was excellent. The excavation and installation was another story. From the first day the workers were cutting corners. They did not excavate to the depth that System Pavers stipulated in their specifications before they started to put in the base layer of gravel and weed barrier. They left their lunch garbage in the yard. They did not put adequate sand between the pavers and there were areas where there was zero sand between the pavers. There was no portable toilet for 2 1/2 days for the workers. Each of the problems was brought to the attention of the project manager. While each of the problems was corrected, the type of problems led us to believe that work quality is not a company value. We got a reasonable quality product only because we were vigilant during the entire process. Within 60 days of installation the following happened. We had to replenish the sand between the pavers as many areas no longer had sand. System Pavers hires a private company to survey clients. We received a phone message from the project manager saying he was disappointed in our review and that if we were willing to improve our review, he would give us some free services. This is really bad and makes us wonder how many reviews were "improved" in return for free services.
Description of Work: System Pavers excavated the backyard, installed pavers, and a decomposed granite circle for a seating area and fire pit.

I'll keep this short, sweet and to the point. I had an idea for a major hardscaping update to my front and back yards here in Northern California. After learning about System Pavers of Union City, I called and set up a meeting with their Sr. Design Consultant Daniel Del Rio to turn my ideas into "concrete" plans. Daniel is a creative, enthusiastic, organized and very experienced professional who patiently listened to my ideas, asked insightful questions that helped me think through the details of the project and finally encapsulated my ideas and transformed my words and into a real plan. Once designed and the project initiated, Project Manager Ryan Travalini (a hard-working very experienced construction professional) was on-site every day ensuring that my ideas were clearly understood by the construction teams and, when necessary, were adapted and integrated into the final design rather than co-opted once the process of construction was under way. Now that all has completed I can say that Daniel, Ryan and everyone at System Pavers of Union City (including the professional and experienced crews overseen by the two Angels) fully lived up to the System Pavers motto of "Outdoor Living Designed Around You®." You've given me the beautiful, functional and exceptionally relaxing outdoor spaces I envisioned at the very beginning of this project. Thanks to everyone at System Pavers!

We are extremely pleased with the results of the project. We now have a beautiful new outdoor living space for relaxing and socializing. Throughout the project all the employees of System Pavers we interacted with, as well as the subcontractors they hired, were highly professional, knowledgeable, very friendly and easy to work with. They were always willing to make changes when we asked for them. We hired System Pavers twice before for projects at our previous house and were enthusiastic about the quality of their work and how easy it was to work with them. We have recommended System Pavers to several of our neighbors who then hired them for their own projects.
Description of Work: Completely landscaped a very large backyard complete with fireplace, pergola, kitchen with BBQ, refrigerator, storage shelves and outdoor lighting, raised beds, fountain, hardscaping, seating walls and 2 side yards.

The Sales guy "under-estimated" my job and the day before starting my job he called asking for additional money or they would cancel the job. I told him no the contract is set and that's all I am willing to pay, and he needs to figure it out on their end. I get a call the next morning from a accounting girl asking me to verify my cc info to refund my deposit because my job has been canceled. Not even a call from the sales guy, or a manager to try and work out an agreement. 12,000 job canceled! Left two messages for the "sales manager" to call me back and NO RESPONSE. I am in sales myself and I would never do this to a customer, at the very least should of received a call back from the so called "management" Use this company at your own risk...

It took awhile to work with our sales person and land on a design. I suggest you do lots of research, pick a design you like, and then be certain that is communicated to the work crew. My husband created a detailed sketch of what we wanted which we gave to Troy, our project manager, and Mario, the lead worker on our project. Troy, who was managing other projects at the same time was our point person and he was excellent. Made contact with us everyday and called to alert us of changes (due to weather, etc.) Troy always followed through on whatever he told us he was going to do. Highly, highly recommend him. Mario, who laid the pavers and supervised the other workers was a true craftsman and artist with the rock. We were very pleased with our construction crew. Our patio area needed significant grading. It was fascinating watching the guys do this painstaking work as well as beautiful cutting and shaping small pieces of rock around our window wells.

After we discussed what we had in mind, the salesman put the numbers together and quoted a price. I countered it. He called his supervisor, and we compromised (later the salesman told us he had given up 40% of his commission to make the deal happen). They started work on schedule (we had to wait a few weeks until the start date). The crew worked very hard, rarely taking any breaks except for lunch. Very professional. The project lead man (manager?) was Richard; also very professional. The workers only took off a day and a half because of rain. Otherwise, they worked every day but Sunday, from 0830 ? 5:30 pm. When the project was finished, we were not happy with the flagstone part (the pavers looked fine). We had designed a very wide section of pavers up to our front door, with a more narrow, curved flagstone path up the middle for visual contrast. I had explained to the salesman what we wanted: that the flagstones had to be butted up "tight" together, and the sand between them should be an equal width throughout. Although the workers were very diligent, I don't think they were totally familiar with installing flagstones. The end result was that in some places, there was 5 to 6 inches of sand between some of the flagstones (the pavers were butted together tight, with maybe an eighth-inch space between them). The flagstones were irregular and very large; some of them four feet by six feet, so there were bound to be some large gaps. Those spaces should have been filled in with smaller pieces of scrap stone. I emailed Richard with a half dozen pictures of proper flagstone installation that I found online. He came out, and we discussed the problem. He said their standard was one to three inches of sand between the flagstones. The sand between the stones is mixed with a soft glue-like materiel to keep it from being blown away by leafblowers, rainstorms, etc. But it isn't concrete, and it can be dug up without too much trouble. So they could have just dug up some of the sand in the wider places and inserted scrap stone there. Since we had signed a contract and our discussion with the salesman was only verbal, we did not expect much satisfaction. After a prior experience with a horrible building contractor, we did not really expect to be treated well. We were wrong. Two days later Richard emailed us three possible fixes: an option of replacing the flagstones with regular pavers, or with manufactured flagstones that already had the proper spacing between them, or with different, man-made pavers. He said his crew could start the following Monday if we wanted. We were astonished at the offer. We decided to replace the flagstones with similar pavers, but with stone of a slightly different color (Californias Gold) and varying dimensions, so we would keep the visual contrast of a pathway from the sidewalk to the front door. They began tearing out the front flagstones and replacing them with the pavers option we had selected. The sizes were random: some were 8 by 8 inches, some were 12 X 18 inches, and some were 12 X 12 inches, mixed together. The sides of the (visual) path were a curved line of 8 X 8 inch pavers of a slightly lighter color, with the same 8 X 8border on the outside edges of the whole installation. And they didn't just replace the flagstones in front, which had the biggest spaces between the flagstones. They replaced all the flagstones; front, back, and side, with a mix of large and small pavers. I suppose most of the flagstones could be re-used by the company, but many had been broken or sawed during the original installation. All the extra pavers were added and re-installed at no cost to us. (I guess I can say this now that they're done: we wouldn't have complained if they'd only replaced the flagstones at the front of the house ?). But System Pavers really went out of their way to fix the problem. The extra work took 3 ? 4 workers almost a week, at no extra cost. The finished job looks very good. The color of the new path is slightly different from the stones on the sides of the path, so we still have the visual "pathway" look from the street to the front door that we wanted. If it were not for System Pavers doing all the extra work (without arguing!) we still would have been OK with it if they had simply filled in the larger gaps between the flagstones with smaller scraps of stone. But they went out of their way, at substantial expense, to make sure we were satisfied. That attitude is unusual these days, and outstanding. I don't write many reviews, but what System Pavers did had to cost them a lot. They could have cut corners, but they didn't. So they deserve this commendation, and we're happy to let folks know about our good experience. Thanks to Richard, too, for his help. The entire job went well, and left us with a good feeling about this company.
Description of Work: Replaced a dated front walkway from sidewalk to front door with pavers and flagstones, replaced and added to a walkway from sidewalk to side door (we're on a corner lot), and about a 20 by 25 foot area of back yard lawn was replaced with flagstones. Put in a small dirt-retaining wall around 2 trees and back of the rear yard.

It was okay. It wasn't the best experience. The planning was fine. They were very helpful and okay. When it came down to the people putting the pavers in, I had a few problems with communication. They don't speak English. I've done that at least five years ago, I still have problems calling them and contacting them. I would probably not recommend them, unfortunately. They look nice. I got a lot of compliments. However, all the stuff I had to go through, I'd find pavers anywhere. The guy who came out, showed me how to do it, what to do, that was fine. When it came to the actual project and communicating with the business itself, I ahd problems. I still have problems. The best thing I like about them was when they finished. You buy all these bricks, the bricks that were extra, they were mine, I paid for them. These guys tried to take them. We had an argument about that. They gave me a warranty for life supposedly but to get them to come out, it takes a lifetime to get a hold of them. I injured my hand so I can't use my left hand too much. I had to put pavers in because I can't cut weeds, I can't do all the stuff I used to do. I said, let me put the pavers in and we don't have to worry about the weeds in the front of the house.

The actual paving job was done well - we really liked the project manager, Will, and the men who did the work were good. The finished job looks very nice. However, our experience with the estimating, measuring and getting back to us with information was not so good. The salesman came out on a Saturday, measured the lot and then showed us what it would look like when paved (he had a way to do that on his laptop). He gave us a price then told us that if we made a decision that day, we would save a % of the total cost (that this deal was about to expire). So, we went ahead and signed on the dotted line (we normally get 3 estimates and take our time before committing to anything). The following week, we got a letter which was sent out to everyone offering this same deal, so clearly it was not expiring and was a ploy to get us to sign. We had asked the salesman to include an estimate to pave our neighbors' parking area too since it adjoins ours. He failed to include that in the estimate so when the project manager came out to finish up the plans, it was clear that they were not planning to pave next door. That was really bad since we had made arrangements with our neighbors to do this. We had asked to see houses in the area where this company had done the paving. We were promised those names "by Tuesday" but they didn't arrive so we had to chase those up and the places they gave us were no recommendation at all - one was too small, the other really messy and they gave us the wrong address for the 3rd. When we complained to the company we were told that the salesman had some family problems going on and that was why we hadn't heard back. We understand that this happens and had compassion for him, but the company should have put someone else on to the job to ensure that things could move forward. As the job started, it was clear that there were going to be additional charges which we hadn't been told about for dealing with drainage on the drive and the edging in the parking area. All this added to the cost. We had been led to believe that the estimated cost included our neighbor's paving but that was not the case so the overall cost, once the job was done, was quite a bit higher than the original estimate. So, while we like the look of the paving and are happy we had the job done, I don't think we would recommend this company to friends wanting to do something similar. We were having some problems when we got the first rains in December and contacted the company to get more information but they were not helpful or responsive. I think they lost interest once they got their money. Kudos to the project manager and the crew who cleaned up really well every day and did a great job overall, but the company needs to get a better sales force and to be more responsive to their customers.

The initial response to my first contact was immediate. The sales man John was very helpful in helping us select the stones and design. Our job was scheduled for their first availability 3 weeks later. A couple hours after they were suppose to arrive I received an email that their was a "personal issue" with the crew and they would not be able to make it that day. Later was told it was to be rescheduled for the following week. When the crew did arrive they were not only on time but early. They worked hard and the end product is beautiful. However i don't speak Spanish and they didn't speak English. Actually their English seemed selective. They appeared to understand what they wanted. I was told by the sales man and the project manager they would be careful with our plants. I knew they would be affected by the work but it wasn't necessary for the crew to stomp them, or to lay their tools and equipment on them. I understand we had a small job in their eyes but was told by the project manager that he would be coming by during the day. The only time he came by was to get paid. When I pointed out the plant issues he gave excuses as to why they needed to be stomped in. When I pointed out it appeared nobody in the crew spoke English he said that's what he was for. Calling him turned out to pointless. For the cost of the size of the job I feel that everything should be left in the condition they found it. In addition our driveway still has evidence of their visit. It has scrapes on it from their equipment and black tire marks from their truck. I based my grades on the following: Quality - on the finished product. Responsiveness - my initial contact. Punctuality - the appointment with the salesman and the time the crew was suppose to show up. Professionalism - based on the comments above. I did say I would use them again but if there was a maybe box I would check that. I would not work with the project manager again and if they could not send one English speaking employee I would not hire them again. Communication is key with whatever job you're having done.

.I was pleased with System Pavers from beginning to end. We stopped by their booth at a home show. I was a bit reluctant to let them come out because I had read about high pressure sales. My experience was the total opposite. Scott Anderson came out and explained all our choices. He worked with us on the design and did a computer mock up of several different combinations for us. He did not pressure us at all and gave us the time we needed to decide. Scott provided us with addresses to go see examples of the products we were looking at. Once we signed the contract the office staff and project managers were also great. System Pavers is not likely going to be your lowest estimate, but you can trust them. They are committed to quality and they understand customer service.

Their work was great. I chose them because they used a project planner to coordinate the overall job, which included their work and a landscapers. My home is in a HOA and has no backyard access and is on a hill. They had to go through my house and replace the wooden decking with 8 yards of dirt, then the pavers. Once it was scheduled, their work was done in 6 days as projected. The salesman, Don Givens, worked with me to do my own backyard design. And the project manager, Will Sullivan was excellent, despite him managing 3 -6 other projects simultaneously. And the construction team and leader was hard working and focused. There were only 2 problems: 1) at the beginning I spoke with the project coordinator at the home office who did not know anything accurately about the proposed project and signed contract. He was so out of touch, I ended up hanging up on him and dealing with ultimately with the Salesman and the project manager they assigned. 2) The 2nd problem ended up being the landscaper they referred me -- Dan's Landscaping out of Pleasanton. He started out great but ended out being unreliable. Both SP and me were very disappointed. Regardless of that, I still feel very strongly about how great SP is , the work quality, the professionalism, their willingness to work with you, make modifications as needed, the products I chose and the project manager concept. I would recommend them to anyone and still give them an A PLUS. And I LOVE my new backyard -- one of my favorite places to spend some of the day.

I'm the President of our HOA and our community pool had an old concrete pad that was in poor condition after 40 years of use and weather. It was crumbling in some spots, had become unpleasant to walk on due to almost sharpness from concrete breaking down, and we just unsightly. Since having the pavers installed our community pool has had a significant increase in usage and I constantly get compliments on the looks and feel of the pavers. Our night time users really like the new lighting we had installed around the perimeter border area as it adds a really cozy feel to the ambiance.
Description of Work: They demo'ed existing concrete pads surrounding our community pool and removed the debris. They prepared the surface for a new base and insured it was extremely well compacted, tapered to the proper degree and at the exact level it needed to be. They installed beautiful pavers in the pattern we choose and include some surrounding LED lighting that looks great at night. They installed new pool ladder handles at each location and these are much better and stronger than the previous ones. They cleaned up well and completed the job on time. They accommodated our change requests all along the way and were just very friendly.

It went great... I called and an appointment was set up. Salesmen was on time with many samples. We were able to think about it and he followed up a few days later. I was slightly hesitant due tot he high price. However, i was ensured they do it right, which they definitely do. They dug down 7" and dropped in gravel, sand and then leveled it all so ensure for proper foundation and drainage. The pavers look beautiful. They drain great, look great and are a beautiful addition to our landscaping.

I had purchased this house 10 months ago and while I was appreciative of the drought-tolerant landscaping, I was never enthusiastic about the red gravel areas. I tried hard to like it, but about 2 months ago, on driving home from somewhere, I was appalled at how truly awful I thought it looked. It reminded me of a vacant lot in a barren desert. I really wanted to have grass out there to set off the surrounding plantings. However, no one in Santa Rosa can even consider planting grass under the current water shortage we are facing. Artificial turf seemed to be a good choice, but I hate all things artificial and cringed at the thought of it looking fake. I decided to go with a professional company and a professional installation, as opposed to the do-it-yourself approach. The next day I called several companies to request information and quotes. Andy, from System Pavers, was first to respond. He did a thorough job of explaining the turf product and the installation procedure. It was a very soft sell experiences. He measured the areas very carefully (twice!) and gave me a price that reflected consideration for my age and retirement status. I received another quote that was slightly lower, but I did not like either the turf or the installation methods of the other company as well. Ron, who was the project manager, met with me the day before the job was to start. He went over my concerns and suggested remedies where needed. He was at the site several times a day, every day of the work. The job did not go 100% smoothly. The first batch of turf that arrived turned out to have been cut 5-6 feet too short to install one each side with only one short seam in the back behind each tree. They installed one side, and the next day a new delivery brought the entire piece to fill the second section as planned. Ron was careful to get the same dye lot as the first batch. This second section was installed the 2nd day and the fill added. I was not 100% happy with the final look---the grass was quite flat due to having been rolled up. So Ron had the crew come back for several hours on the 3rd day. They used an electric broom to sweep everything in the same direction and redistributed the fill to hold the grass more upright. It made an enormous difference and looked fantastic. I am so glad I made the decision for artificial turf in this project. Not only won't it use any water, it won't require mowing, weeding, feeding, edging or much of anything at all. I am equally pleased with choosing System Pavers to do the job. They refused to call it a completed job until I was completely happy. They were willing to replace all the turf and start completely over if anything had not been good with me after the second delivery. They exhibited the highest care and attention to all details throughout the entire process. I recommend them very, very highly.
Description of Work: Installed 2 free-form sections of artificial turf in front yard to replace lava rock gravel. The work involved digging and grading the area to a depth of 3.5 inches with a slight slope from the back down to the sidewalk. Crushed rock was then brought in and tamped down, edging added along the back and sides, sleeves to protect the drip irrigation was added and the circles around the trees were enlarged. The turf was brought in and installed with only one vertical seam from the back of each tree up to the edging. The areas were groomed with an electric broom and a plastic coated fill spread to hold the material down and the grass blades upright.

The job went really smoothly and they were very quick. They were done within a week (start to finish). System Pavers were really responsive about making sure we get just what we wanted. We had estimates previously for similar work, but not the same work, so we can't really say if the price is good or not. All in all, we are very happy with the results.

I found System Pavers at the San Jose Home Show in Nov 2013. I liked their product and 25-year warranty, so I signed up for an estimate. They called to confirm the appointment and happily rescheduled it for me later. The design consultant & estimater (John Castagnola) was very professional and courteous. We quickly arrived at a design for this small project and then I added the Roman stone seating wall to finalize the estimate. John told me that Will Fanizzi would be contacting me as the Project Manager, which Will did promptly. I worked with Will prior to and during the install. Will was excellent on communication and being on time. He was at the job site at least twice a day, to inspect the work and ensure the job was going well. It was a pleasure working with both John and Will. I worked as a Facilities Manager in the Silicon Valley for 20 years and I have worked with many, many businesses/contractors, and System Pavers has an excellent process for being successful. I felt the pricing was a great value, given the amount of work they did, the quality of the pavers (Calstone) and the 25-year Warranty on their work. I plan to use System Pavers again (located in Union City, CA 94587).
Description of Work: Built a Roman stone seating wall around my existing paver patio. Designed and installed new pavers where my main pathways were in my backyard.
