Description of Work: Oliver and Son Construction added a room onto my home, changed all the windows and remodeled the kitchen.

Description of Work: Oliver & Son General Construction contractor expanded my Fremont home at a great price, very good quality and expeditiously. They were professional, met their deadlines, passed all inspections and came in on budget. The owner, Oliver, is easy to work with and was reliable. He was on the job when he said he would be, he was honest, just overall great. I will use him again in the future and I would highly recommend him to others.

Description of Work: I asked Oliver to give me a estimate on installing a wood fireplace mantle and surround. His company was recommended to me by Intimate Flame, a fireplace company in Fremont, Ca. I called him and it took several times to arrange for him to come and provide us with an estimate. When he did I showed him pictures and catalogs of the design we wanted and he said he did several mantle surround. I asked him if he had pictures and he said no but assured me that he was experienced and with the fireplace company recommendation, I didn't think it was a problem. We agreed on the price on the surround along with other jobs I was willing to hire him for, such as replacing a stair handrail. I decided to just hire him for the mantle surround since I felt the handrail job was a bit overpriced. I also felt he was a bit hit on the fireplace job. Shortly thereafter i sent him measures and drawings of the design I wanted. He came to our home as agreed and my husband was home and said it took less than a couple of hours to install the surround. When my hasband was called to view it, he noted that it looked like a the contractor purchased a fireplace mantel kit you buy at Lowes in lieu of a custom job we were expected him to built. He was after all charging us $900 for the job. While the mantel was nice, he did not build the surround ( legs) but rather purchased molding and glue them on my brick fireplace. I was upset at the result and asked him to remove the legs and leave the mantle. I told him I would pay him a fair price for it. He did remove the legs and there was no damage to the brick. He tried to charge us over $450 for the mantle and but we agreed on $350. I will never hire him again. My feeling is that he had no idea what he was doing and spent maybe $75 at most for material. He acting as if he didn't understand why we were upset. We showed him pictures and designs what we wanted and he didn't follow it through or listen.
