My wife and I hired Eileen, Tom, and Trish from Pacific Coast Custom Design to help us remodel our condo in Corona Del Mar. Bottom-line they are the best from start to finish. This was a remodel of our 2nd home that is 6 hours away. The entire process was great. Eileen worked with my wife and I to design our beach condo that is so unique and special we just love it. Trish worked tirelessly to make sure everything we ordered arrived on time and Tom is an amazing hands-on general contractor. Eileen, Tom and Trish are now part of the family. After a remodel, sometimes the relationship can become soured, not ours. We are all on a group chat and they continue to help keep an eye on the condo when we need them to look at something. If you want to do a remodel in the Newport area, they are the ones to call. We talked to 6 different contractors and from the moment we met with Eileen, we felt so comfortable with her and she saw the vision we had for the condo and helped to make it even better. During the remodel which took about 4 months, the communication was great, and they continued to go above and beyond. I remember when I did a reference check, one client said they were “too good to be true” and that sums it up about Pacific Coast Custom Design. What I also like about PCCD, is they are a small family owned business, not some big company, so you get personalized service and the finish work is beautiful. All I can say is hire them.

We have been living with the PCC custom cabinets in our home for about 9 months now. Some of the major issues we encountered and discovered during the process: poor quality finish on the custom cabinets, mismatched paint on replaced doors/drawers that were taken back to the factory to be redone, mis-aligned doors/drawers that PCC was never able to get quite right even after multiple attempts to fix, slow close drawers/doors that do not function properly and cracking/chipping/peeling paint on the cabinets. When we questioned the chips and cracks in the paint finish, PCC replied to us that this is normal and "paint does crack and chip over time". We never expected this low durability and paint quality in less than a year of use. Although our cabinets do look good from 10 to 15 feet away, when one moves any closer, the flaws in the finish and function are quite obvious. It is embarrassing when our friends/family see them and point them out. Also, they installed our under cabinet lights with double-sided tape and many times during the week, the lights fall down and we have to "stick" them back up. Kind of funny. Somehow it seems the lights could have been installed in a more professional manner than double-sided tape. Unfortunately, PCC predicted a "2 month" project, but it took 4 months due to PCC issues with the custom cabinet creation and installation.
Description of Work: cabinets for kitchen, master bath, fireplace, secondary bath
Initial design - went well, very detailed and well thought out plan Implementation - lots of problems in the construction/work phase. Tile laid incorrectly and had to be redone; cabinets brought in with very poor quality paint finish - had to be taken in and redone about 2-3 times and still have issues with paint chipping/bubbling. Only about 50% of the soft close drawers and cabinets work correctly. Cabinet doors/drawers are out of alignment and never quite fixed right. We ended up hiring other workers to correct Pacific Coast Custom Design mistakes. Some of the other workers happened to be unlicensed but were able to fix the Pacific Coast design mistakes. It appeared that Pacific Coast Custom Design was not happy about that and started blaming the unlicensed workers for problems created by Pacific Coast Design. Would recommend to do lots of research before choosing a cabinet company. Be sure to ask about baked on cabinet paint finish (versus sprayed in factory or in home), and Blum drawer glides/hinges. Also the company policy as far as finishing touches such as cabinet alignment. Perhaps we would have had better luck going with semi-custom, rather than custom cabinets. It appears the semi-custom is better quality.
