It was wonderful. The steps are just beautiful and really sturdy. We were really happy with him. We thought there were only a few steps, but he found a few others that needed to be replaced as well making our deck safe again.

Everything went as expected - and more. Rich spotted and repaired a mis-plumbed hose from the dishwasher to the disposal for draining - saved me $$$ if it had malfunctioned - now that's service.

Installation went well, very happy with the new door, however, Rich was supposed to come back to paint the door and has not done so. He cancelled my appointment for July 28th and has not returned my 3 calls to reschedule. I have already paid for the paint and would like the job finished.

After six months of back and forth with electricians getting quotes, Richard came in, assessed the situation and in 45 minutes had the dishwasher up and running -- and at a very fair price. In addition, he explained how the dishwasher worked as well. He also hauled the old one away. In addition, I have asked him to come back and do additional work because I was happy with his professionalism.

Rich and John are a great team. They work efficiently---and hardly need to speak! Rich says yes to about every job I need done, or gives me a good referral. When I'm back to renting again, I will definitely let the landlord know about THI&RC. Thanks for everything you've done for me over the past 12 years, guys.

He was knowledgeable and very efficient - knew right away what was wrong and explained it to me. He was quick with the necessary shopping for a new fixture and quick to install it. He was also generous with his time and very pleasant. I was delighted with his service.

Rich came to my aunt's house to diagnose low water pressure in the bathroom shower. He arrived on time and provided what seemed to be a correct assessment of the problem and quoted a reasonable price. He said he would come back on 4/8/15 and do the work. We were delighted that we found someone who could fix the problem. On 4/8 at the appointed time... NO SHOW. We called the emergency number... NO RESPONSE. In fact, to this day (4/13) we have called many times and even mentioned Angie's list. NO RESPONSE. I can't tell you how disappointing and frustrating this was. I even asked in one message that if he had a family emergency, please call and let us know, we'd be happy to reschedule. NOTHING. I don't understand why he couldn't have just said, "you know what, I really don't think I can do this job." HOW UNPROFESSIONAL!

It went great. Rich replaced our bathroom vanity, toilet, added bathroom fixtures and accessories including a medicine chest, did electrical and other plumbing work and hung 2 screen doors. He also painted the bathroom. I picked out the items at Home Depot and paid for them and Rich picked everything up and did all the hard work. He was efficient, creative, reasonable and the quality was second to none. I've already recommended him to a good friend of mine and will use him again for future projects. If you don't go with Rich, you are missing out on quality and value. Plus, he's just a nice guy.

I could not have asked for better service or workmanship! He arrived on time, got right to work on the list I had provided, he checked out with me as he moved along the list. Took about 30 minutes to go to Home Depot and get material needed, came back and went right to work. What I really appreciated was his ability to look at my list, and evaluate the problem and determine if something needed to be replaced or an adjustment, saving me money. I have another appointment with him on January 8th and another list. I would refer him to anyone. Thanks to Angie's list for having this service, and to Rich for his good work. Phyllis

Rich always accepts and follows through on a challenge! Today he conquered one hardware problem after another, and my kitchen has never been brighter.

Rich is very professional and helpful. Ordered proper replacement hinges for Thermador oven door and replaced them. Also fixed a leaking water faucet.

Rich and his helper did a great job, appreciated their punctuality, courteous, clean and fast. He responding within a day after calling, understood the job and told me exactly what I needed to purchase and what they will provide. I would definitely try Home Improvement and Repair again for other jobs around my mother's house.

We have been looking for a handyman for several years. Most that we called either didn't show up, didn't return phone calls, or didn't want small jobs. We called Rich and explained a problem that we thought could be serious but which could also be simple. He identified the probably problem over the phone (the simple one) and scheduled time to take a look. He was responsive, on time, came with a helper, and was very knowledgeable. We have a fair amount of knowledge too so it was apparent that he knew what he was talking about. He has a contractor's license so he can do most any kind of repair job and we are planning to use him for some larger projects coming up. We are very, very pleased with Rich.

was prompt and completed repair. Problem occurred, stucco cracked. Rich responded quickly to my email and scheduled a time to redo the stucco. Appreciate his willingness to do the job right.

I contacted Rich in early Oct. two or three times. He finally replied apologizing and going on saying he had personal matters and was very busy. We talked and he said it was best if I took pictures of what I wanted worked on/fixed and send them to him. He then could have a better idea of what was involved and pricing. So far I was ok and looking forward to his services since there were such glowing reviews. I want to back track a bit here and say. I do like writing these reviews taking the time out of my day (over an hour to write this with fact checking etc..) and only do so if the service was awesome as we have done on here before for our electrician. I do not enjoy systematically picking at the sub par service and follow through of a person just trying to make a living. With that said please continue reading this review since you need to know that this person is not performing at the level stated. Another week goes by with me contacting Rich again via email via work phone via page service. I finally get an answer that he is very busy but has two hours on the 29th of Oct. to which he can come by and do what he can. Then we can talk about what needs to be done etc.. (rate per hour was never brought up or discussed). To Rich's credit (and probably one of the reasons we did not give him a F) he was on time. He had a helper (Spencer) with him. I asked him if he had booties or was willing to take off his shoes. He stated that for insurance reasons he could not and that next time he would have booties or shoe covers. Fair enough. After walking them around and going over the list I sent him he figured he could do two things maybe more in the time allowcated. 1. fix the peeling paint in entry way. 2. fix the railing outside the office on the faux deck. and possibly replace the water spout in the back. At that point 90/hr. plus materials was addressed. We were ok with that and started the process. On to the work: Spencer took over the peeling entry way while Rich went after the railing and job listing the other items. I am not a licensed repair guy and Rich Goldstein (lic#774115) is.... but do know a thing or two. And when you have water damage i.e. peeling paint you usually poke a keyhole saw to check for damage. I was planning in my mind that they would cut out the sheetrock check the area and put in a new piece tape and paint. This was not done and no drop cloth was used. Spencer just started sanding and plastering. With dust going all over our wood flooring, granite flooring and wool carpet. Yes, they were some what mindful, but who does this type of work without a drop cloth or blue taping / plastic wrap off areas. I offered whatever they needed before they started and was told by Rich they had everything they needed. Rich did an ok job fixing the railing. He then proceeded to take notes on the other items. We then met up and discussed what was going to be done and the next visit. He told me there was no need to fix the ceiling that the mud would dry and they would be back to sand and paint. I had to ask them to clean up all the dust Spencer missed the first time cleaning. There were paint chips and sanded material all over the place still. No problem they ragged it and we detailed after they left. The bill came to just over 100 dollars since all for other jobs he did not either have the items or it would have taken more than the other hour left (did I mention we have a Home Depot less than a half a mile away....). We cut him a check. Rich then said he would call me that night and set up another appointment to finish the ceiling and work on the other tasks. That was a week and two days ago. We have not heard from him since. I have reached out via email, work number and answering service. Everyone has a bad day or this is a one off of poor service. However, not taking ownership and clarifying the cause of said shoddy service is just plain rude. Looking back I got the impression that he had other and quot;jobsand quot; lined up and this was not worth doing. Once again horrible service, I simple email or txt would have been ok with us. and quot;I am sorry I cannot do the work.... too busy... etc...and quot; We feel that The Home Improvement and Repair Company has some serious internal management and procedure issues and WOULD NOT RECOMMEND for any type of work. Caveat Emptor UPDATE: Rich did try and call to say he was out of town on personal matters. While this may be true it still does not condone the type of service and amount of time to set up that took place for this job.

I didn't know what to do when my built-in, over-the-stove microwave broke. I am a 60-year-old, single woman so there's no way I could do this job myself. FORTUNATELY, I found Richard Goldstein at The Home Improvement and Repair Co. through Angie's List and it was smooth sailing from that point on. He guided me every step of the way including where to go purchase a new microwave and which brand he felt was most reliable. He then picked it up from the store, delivered it to my condo and installed it, AND hauled away my broken microwave..! On appointment day, he called prior to my 2-hour window and gave me an update as to when he'd be arriving. He was on-time, extremely competent and efficient, he cleaned up, and could not have been nicer about everything. He even pointed out a few key things about operating the microwave that he knew would be helpful for me to know. I will definitely be using Richard again, as he does a wide range of handyman tasks such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and appliance repair. I have also shared his name with my women friends in my condo complex. It is challenging to find someone good and Richard Goldstein is a gem. I highly recommend..!

Great communication and flexible. He's very knowledgable and gave me some great suggestions and recommendations. He's got a great attitude and easy to work with. Both experiences have been A+++ I've also asked in about some additional work that I need to have done and will have him back in a week or so for the next round of things. He knows his stuff

I needed someone familiar home electrical and wiring. I had upgraded other outlets in my place to USB ports in the past no issues. But this last time I ran into some issues and quickly realized I needed someone with more experience. I called Richard and he got back to me in a timely manner and gave a reasonable window when he could make it to my place. He and his assistance arrived very close to the scheduled time. He had to do a little bit of troubleshooting as to why that outlet wasn't getting any power and within a reasonable amount of time pinpointed part of the problem to the light switch. From there, he was able to fix the problem and get my USB port installed and I was good to go. That aside, very professional, knows his stuff, was very good about explaining things and he takes PayPal which I think is pretty cool.

He gets an A. He was really great. He was on-time, actually a bit early and professional, knowledgeable, reliable. I liked them very much. They're terrific!

Rich has done so much work for me over the past 10 years, I don't know how to review it all, but I've got to try! This last job was repairing the irrigation pipe in my yard. He has also installed the microwave and stove, repaired my toilets, installed shower heads and faucets, fixed the bathroom fan, replaced bulbs in high places, replaced and programmed the thermostat. He and his assistants are prompt, speedy, polite, friendly, neat, and the work is reasonably priced. He never makes me feel like the job was too small (or idiotic). Many thanks, Rich.

Handyman was called to service my tankless water heater (flush, filter cleaning, etc.) On arrival, he found that the water heater was not properly installed (did not have a proper flushing bib). On looking at my manual and the service necessary, I agreed that the repair was needed and authorized him to do the work in addition to the servicing required. After purchasing the necessary supplies, he completed the work required. We now have proper water flow in the house (dirty water filter was the problem) at what I thought was a reasonable cost. Future servicing will be much cheaper with the addition of the flushing bib.

I have written this up in detail previously. My experience with Richard Goldstein and his assistant was excellent. He is extremely capable, intelligent, and responsive. He appreciates organizing his work, if possible in advance, by knowing what you need, so a list is a very good idea. Of course, you will discover more items as you go along, and he can be helpful sorting things out. I still have projects to do, and I anticipate calling Richard when I'm ready.

To install the microwave and connect the fridge water line, Rich and his helper showed up about 10 minutes ahead of schedule which was great since I needed to get to work ASAP. They completed their work quickly, but Rich explained that the microwave filter that was needed wasn't there and he said he didn't have the filter that fit my model in his truck. He suggested that I call the appliance store or GE to get the part and he said that he would stop by another morning to install it. He even showed me how to install it, in case I wanted to do it myself. Rich also explained the water filter on the fridge. He was informative and helpful. I called the appliance store and spoke to Warren who said that he had set aside the filter for me, but they must have forgotten to deliver it with the microwave. He said he would put it in his mail slot for me to pick up. I later told Rich that the appliance store had the filter that I needed and told him that I wouldn't be able to pick it up for a few days. Rich volunteered to pick it up for me. He returned at our agreed upon time and installed the filter.

Rich and his helper worked about 3 hours to perform all the tasks. They worked quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up and even leveled my kitchen range for me.
