Rich was great from start to finish. He responded quickly to my call, came out the next day to give me an estimate, finished work a day earlier than he said because of scheduled rain. He also fixed some small things...for example just because he was up on the ladder, he touched up some paint trim on my house. He is great to work with. I highly recommend him.

The first visit went fine--they inspected the chimney and saw that only half of it was lined. Rick recommended getting it completely lined, but in no way pressured me. Because I plan to use my fireplace almost nightly, I made the decision to get the rest of it lined for safety. He also re-mortared where my gas boiler goes into the chimney. The old mortar was chipped off and the two pieces going into the chimney were basically hanging out of it, not secured, so they repaired both sides of those areas. They did not charge me for this since they would be back to line the chimney the following week. They came back the next week and lined the chimney with a clay compound, and cleaned the chimney first at no charge to me. The overall cost was $600 to complete the lining of the chimney. There were two guys the first time, and three guys the next time. All of them were professional and courteous, and they thoroughly cleaned up after themselves (yay!!). I would recommend them without hesitation, and will continue to use them for any future chimney related work.

Efficient and pleasant. They got back to me within a couple of days, even though I contacted them right in the middle of the holidays. When they arrived to inspect the chimney, both men were very polite (took their shoes off before entering my home! That small gesture alone was so nice of them.) They took the time to explain the construction of my fireplace and answer all of my questions. The cleaning itself probably took no more than 30 minutes, and they didn't leave behind any mess. I've already recommended them to a friend.

They did a great job, but the price came in higher than I was quoted. I was quoted at $175 but was billed for $235. I was happy with the service, but disappointed by the price increase, although the price was reasonable.

During the annual oil burner/furnace tune-up the service person informed me that my chimney flue was "dangerously" clogged and in desperate need of cleaning. It had been a few years since we had our chimney cleaned and, since we really enjoy using our fireplace during the winter months, I turned to Angie's List for chimney sweep referrals. Top of the list with straight "A's" in all categories was MacDonald's Chimney Sweep in Roslindale. I sent them an email asking if they could possibly perform the work the following week not knowing when they would respond. Not 5 minutes later I received a phone call from the owner, Rich MacDonald, asking if "NOW" (as in today) would work for me! It didn't, as I had a busy schedule that day, but I was more than impressed with his prompt follow-up, professionalism and politeness. We scheduled the work for the following week. As he would be coming from another job he estimated the arrival time around 11 AM. That morning he called about 9 AM to let me know that his job was running longer than expected and they might not get to me until closer to noon. I really appreciated the "heads up" as promptness is a virtue I value. Rich and his crew of 3 arrived @ 11:45 and immediately got to work. When cleaning the fireplace they carefully moved any items in their way and placed protective covering over my carpeting and flooring so nothing would get dirty. Since my wall-wall carpeting was badly stained and ready to be torn out and replaced I told one of the guys he needn't remove his shoes or protect the carpet from additioinal soil but he insisted and did it anyway. They got on the roof, cleaned both chimneys from top to bottom, emptied the fireplace and basement receptacle of all ashes and put the items back in their respective places on the hearth before leaving. The fireplace was spotless and we are looking forward to a cold snap or first snow to enjoy our fireplace without safety concerns. I can absolutely understand why this company has a top-notch reputation on Angie's List. They have earned it!

Great work. Came first time and took a look at what needed to be done and suggested getting a smoke guard on the fireplace. Came a second time to sweep the chimney then back a third time for the fireplace repair. Very nice people and kept us informed on what was going on. Highly recommend

They were excellent. Our annual heating service revealed that our chimney was in desperate need of cleaning. We contacted MacDonald's and they were able to come within a week to clean the flue and the boiler pipes for $175. We had them come back about two weeks later to install a chimney cap and seal the flashing around the chimney as we had some leaking in that area. This was $475. They were very punctual and we are very pleased with their service.

Professional, prompt, easygoing. Got around unexpected unusual configuration of our chimney and were able to clean it and s bunch of oil burner waste for only slightly above the original quote. Advised us of the need to replace other chimney above the roof line due to obvious deterioration. Spent extra time answering questions.

We have a fireplace insert and we didn't know how they would be able to clean it, but, they came out and were done in a couple of hours. They noticed that some re-pointing had to be done to that chimney, so, they came out and did that too. The chimney has pink grout and they were able to match it really well. We had called a couple of companies, but, nobody was coming. They came right out, got it done and it didn't take very long. We would definitely use them again.

He and his three workers showed up, inspected the chimney and found it to be close to clogged, they cleaned it out all the was up and showed me the "before" and "after" in each flue passage. I was delighted with their work, their professionalism and they're cleanliness and attention to detail. They moved everything in the way, would let me get dirty at all. Nice guys and they even took away the debris.

Called Rich MacDonald for advice as to minor settling of house creating a small space between the chimney and outside wall. He called back right away and came down to look at the job in a couple of days. He diagnosed settling and said the space and said said the space could be filled with "GReat Stuff" filler and silicone, He and his helpers worked on three separate days and completed the job making it waterproof and keeping out any potential small birds or animals. He and his workers did a thorough and excellent job.

Excellent!!!! We will use MacDonald's Chimney Sweep for all future cleanings and chimney repair work.

Great, once all the rain stopped Rich and his team were able to quickly get the job done.

The service was great. The day prior, National Grid had come to fix a minor gas leak and when the technician went to restart the pilot light on one of the water heaters, he discovered that the water heater was not able to exhaust because the chimney had about 6' of debris in it. Therefore, carbon monoxide was backing up into our basement. The technician left the heater off, with a giant warning taped to it. Needless to say, I was promptly on the phone, trying to ring any company that would come out, clean the chimney and install a trap. Unfortunately, this was about four pm on Friday, so few companies answered their phones. Also, several do not serve Southie. However, when I called Rich and left him a message, he called me right back and once I explained the severity of the problem, he set up an appointment for the next morning (Saturday). Rich came out Saturday morning with his hepler and they quickly fixed the problem. I was thrilled.

Rich MacDonald was prompt, courteous, and professional. The fee to clean the chimney was $150. In the process of doing that job he discovered that the clay liner had deteriorated and was lining only part of the chimney. He stated that it would not be necessary to replace the liner if we did not use the fireplace. Since we wanted to use the fireplace we decided to pay $2,400 for a stainless steel liner and installation. He returned on another day for that part of the job and completed it within the morning.

It was fine. They came and gave me an estimate first. We set up a time for them to clean my chimney and they came on time. They were also very accommodating.

Richard was super to work with from the beginning. They came on short notice and explained everything to me. As I just moved in, they could have told me the chimney needed cleaning and charged me, but they did not. He said it was good for another year. However, I needed a cap (which I already knew about from my inspection) and crown on the chimney, which they returned later that morning to complete. They were quick, friendly, and efficient. I would definitely recommend them and use them again next year.

Plumber advised that there might be blockage from the chimney or flue pipes to the boiler. Rich MacDonald and a helper came immediately and went on the roof to inspect the chimney and flue. They discovered a rotted flue pipe and replaced it. They were at my house most of the day and the work they did was good quality.
