Thank you for visiting our profile page! 3 Generations Improvements is a family-owned business that prides itself on a combined 120 years of combined experience in siding, windows, doors & decking! In 1956, Grandpa Bob Owens began his career in this industry, followed in 1976, by his son, Kurt Owens and his grandson, Jeremy Owens, in 2002. Using our experience, along with the highest quality products and craftsmanship, we are confident that we can provide you with the customer service and professionalism you deserve! And Remember “It’s not just your home, it’s our legacy…”
oKurt Owens of 3 Generations spent a good hour or more when he came out to do the estimate. He offered many good suggestions that actually brought the cost down at the same time adding to a more finished look. Besides price my other priority was to have the job completed by a certain date. Kurt assured me he could meet that date and should be able to complete the job in 5 days. I had a detailed written estimate in a couple of days that was well within my budget. The first day I believe there were at least 6 in the crew and every day there after there was never less then 4 working the job. I was present the whole time and was amazed how fast they worked without taking any short cuts. The siding and windows was completed in 3.5 days but the gutters were the wrong size so that slightly delayed the job. I was a little concerned since I was going out of town but when I returned everything was complete to my satisfaction. If you are considering a similar remodel I would highly recommend 3 Generation...They by far exceeded my expectations. The house looks great!

This company was top notch all the way. Jeremy arrived on time for the estimate and measurement of my windows, gave me the information about the process of window replacement and gave me the paperwork needed for my HOA approval. The windows were ready for the install within 3 weeks and the two workers who installed were professional and fast.

I love how the deck looks. I went with redwood to match existing deck. I only had a slight language barrier with one of the workers. An opening on the deck for the water valve wasn't done. When I called in he offered to have someone go back to fix it. Overall I was satisfied with the work.

The entire experience was excellent. One of the owners, Jeremy, was our sales person. Jeremy was professional, polite, very organized and knowlegable and offered demos and product examples...A+! The price was excellent for the quality of windows and service we received...A+. The installers were perfect...prompt, professional, polite, accurate and left our home with no traces that any work had been done ...A+. Two of our largest windows are on the second story and are not easy to access, but this was never mentioned by the owner or the installers, they simply went to work and got it done. I highly recommend this company and intend to use them for our future home improvement projects.

I wanted an entire re-siding/trim job for my home. My home was built in 1979, in a Dutch Colonial/Revival style. I purchased it in 1997 and in 2002 replaced it's existing wood shingle roof with a RED standing-seam metal roof that met with the architecture style demanded by Dutch Colonial. My home had existing siding of the Masonite type. I searched long and hard about the different types of siding/trim available (fiber cement, cedar, natural wood, manufactured wood, vinyl, et. al.) and selected LP Smart Side. These guys did a great job! I interviewed 5 contractors and these guys were selected because of their experience with metal roofs, existing window issues and custom frame work. I also had them rebuild my back porch since it was 30 year old. They were not the least expensive (we found another that would do the job for 20% less) but felt very comfortable with them because of the up-front work from Kurt. He is a fountain of knowledge and show 3 different products to us and told us the best to use for our situation. Kurt was the best part of the entire process. Everyone was pushing Hardy cement products. He REALLY looked at our installation and advised LP Smart Side instead of Hardie Board cement. Over all the actually installation turned out just as planned. I had to nag a bit about a few things and they worked their butt off to find a solution that satisfied me. I love them for that! They also gave me a cash discount and an Angies list discount which helped considering that it was a 32K job!! While I was a bit unhappy with having all the cleanup work I had after they left (it took almost 3 weeks for them to remove the port-a-potty and I still do some left over nail/metal/wood trim pickup) I can say they completed the work I needed and added an additional 25% value to their work. p.s. - their woodcraftmanship is GREAT!!!! I will more certainly call them again to re-create my deck which needs major attention as I have done nothing to it for 10 years.

Great experience with Curt and his crew! We have a 20 year old single family home, and house sidings on one side began to rot since a couple of years ago. This year, a big crack appeared so we decided to replace the siding on one whole wall. We got a few estimates, Curt's estimate was not the lowest, but we were impressed with his knowledge and the service he had to offer. After he matched the bid from another contractor, we happily went with Curt. Looking back, that was a great decision. Curt's crew were FAST! They probably could have done the whole thing in 3 days if it didn't rain for a couple of days. I have seen neighbors doing their sidings a few times, over the years, but nobody was as quick as these guys. The quality was top notch too. The style, color, everything matches perfectly. What really sets Curt apart, from other contractors, is that he goes beyond expectations to earn your satisfaction. He climbed onto the roof, and told us the condition of our roof and in how many years we should take another look and see whether it needs repair. More than a month after the work is done, after the holidays, he called and said he wanted to fix my window better (They had to put some frames on the window from inside the house. We didn't think it looked the best but we were fine with it, and did not expect Curt's call). After the call, his crew came and spent some time on the window. now it looks perfect!! They might not give the most competitive quote, but don't give up, work it out with them. I'm glad I did!! When you get the quality of work they provide, with a reasonably competitive price, you win!!

I am very please with 3 Generations. Jeremy came by the house twice before I signed to contract to discuss the details of the project. I think we may have talked on the phone a time or two as well. He patiently answered all of my questions. We also discussed all the "what if's" of the project and I felt all my concerns were addressed. The contract was signed, the product ordered and within two weeks the work was started. Although I am sure my project was small, by comparison, I was treated so well and as a single woman having construction work done on a 60+ year old house that is very important to me. Thanks to everyone who was part of this project. Your work is truly appreciated.
Description of Work: The project consisted of removing old, very weathered rough cut cedar siding from the front of my house and replacing it with HardiePlank Lap Siding (cement siding board) which came already colorized which is great because I won't need to paint this product. Yeah! Before the project we discussed all the "what if's" and I was provided estimates accordingly. When the old siding was removed it was confirmed that my house has no insulation, so as agreed, R15 insulation was installed, then the sheathing and fleshings were added, then installation began. The installation crew was really nice, efficient and did a great job. The installation work was completed in one day and they returned the second day to finish the caulking and painting.

I was very imressed with his knowledge and professionalism. I have appointments for my last two estimates this week and then I will make my decision.
Description of Work: I contacted 3 generations for a free in-home estimate and they scheduled an appointment that accomodated my work schedule. Kurt, the owner showed up to explain in detail what they do and how they do the work I need done. We did a complete walk-around, and he answered every one of my questions and gave some excellent information about the job. 3 Generations provided me with a detailed estimate and scope of work with a price for each part of the job (siding, windows, doors, gutters, soffits).

Estimate was complete and thorough and ACCURATE. No delayed price adjustments. Some extras were done without even asking us. Workers were on time, efficient, and worked steadily, knowing what to do at all times, no wasted time. Everyone answered questions and responded to requests appropriately. The work was done completely and thoroughly, nothing skipped or sloppy. They did everything they said they would do. In about 3.5 days the job was finished, with the largest crew being 6, and smallest 2. The results are just beautiful; we are very pleased! ! I would give them an A+ rating. We are considering hiring 3 Generations for some decking repair work.
Description of Work: Three Generations gave us a complete written estimate, explained their product choices, showed us material samples and options before the contract was signed. (They offered an Angie's List discount too). They removed heat-damaged and bird-damaged original cedar (vertical grooved) siding and all old trim around doors and windows, including removing an inoperable water cooler from a high wall location. In those areas they replaced with either T-111 composite, or in the case of the cooler location, with similar grooved wood siding. They wrapped all the surfaces to be given new siding with Tyvek moisture barrier sheeting. On our highest solar-exposure side (east) they next added a foil-backed foam insulation layer for extra protection from the heat. On that side they also installed a new double-paned window for our bedroom. They installed new Hardie Board trim around all doors and windows. Then they installed horizontal Hardie Board (fiber-cement) prepainted siding on top of the old surfaces or T-111. All trim edges were fully caulked with matching color, and all vertical edges were caulked as well. On the back of our house, where no sun damage had occurred, they only installed the same new Hardie board trim. We will paint the back of the house, eaves, etc. later. Also, they added a total of 13 new eave vents in front and in back. They cleaned up thorough each day, hauled away all removed materials including the cooler, and all construction trash and debris. They completed the job by hosing down all new surfaces to remove construction (saw) dust. They left us touch-up paint and unused trim paint in a can. The owner reviewed the job with us, noted any small spots to be touched-up, and his foreman came the next day to complete all of those satisfactorily. In comparison to just repairing and painting our old siding, we decided the 15 year guarantee on the Hardie Board pre-painted siding was a better option, with more added value to the strength, durability, and appearance of the house. They tested our old paint for lead (state law) and also recommended we install a carbon monoxide alarm soon.

Response from 3 Generations Improvements
We are surprised by this response and have tried contacting the homeowner to get more clarification on it, but have not been able to connect. We provided this homeowner a very detailed proposal over a year ago, so I am surprised to get a response so far out in the future. When estimating on large siding and decking projects, it is very difficult to just compare pricing. To compare the bottom line without also comparing the details of the proposal and ultimately the completed work is not a fair nor accurate assessment of our company. We have been told by our customers that our proposals and estimates are as detailed as they come, which prevents "change orders" and extra charges once the job starts. As you will see if you read through all of our reviews, we take great pride in our professionalism, integrity and workmanship and we are not willing to compromise any of them to be the "lowest bidder" or just to get a job. Just as our slogan says, "It's not just your home, it's our legacy..." Meaning, our whole family comes with the project and we present and install our products just as we would on our own homes. Our customers typically tell us that we fall somewhere in the middle of the road price wise, but the value for the dollar is unmatched! We realize and can appreciate that we cannot do business with everyone that we meet, but even when we fall short of expectations during the estimation phase, we take it personally and strive to improve. Thank you for reading our reviews and thank you for your interest in 3 Generations Improvements!
Overall, an excellent experience. Key was exceedingly precise and efficient communication with Jeremy of 3 Gen. Siding crew worked long hours and very hard. House looks great; like a new house. Stairs/deck are very solid and attractive. Had a vision of how we wanted the house to look and we realized the vision. Thought the price for the materials we chose to use and workmanship was very fair. When the professionalism and communication are considered I think the job was a great value.
Description of Work: Had all siding replaced with fiber/cement product. All sofits, eaves, fascia, gutters, and downspouts were replaced. Additionally, large exterior staircase to second floor deck was constructed.

I contacted them after finding them on Angie's list with a 10% discount coupon. Their vice president Jeremy Owens came to our home with window samples, looked at what needed to be done, advised us that there might be rot by one of the bedroom windows (and there was), came up with an estimated cost for made-to-order windows, which I then okayed. After the windows were made, which took a couple weeks or less, two guys did the removal and replacement in one day (a long day). They did a nice job with the installation and cleaned up everything quite well. A few days later someone else came to do the external stucco work, also seemed to be well-done. I am quite happy with the results and am equally glad to have the much more energy efficient windows. It's amazing what a difference they have made for helping keep the house cooler. Today is going to be over 100 degrees, it's 93 now at noon and we're not even close to needing to turn on air conditioning.
Description of Work: Removed 5 windows in total, 2 large front windows, a small "eave-type" window, and 2 bedroom windows. Retrofit the front windows with "inserts" and reframed and installed the bedroom windows, and did external stucco work by the bedroom windows.

Wonderful - they were done with our two story 3,200 sq ft farm house with cement fiberboard and 18 anderson windows (including adding one) and a sliding glass door in 6 weeks.
Description of Work: We moved into a true fixer that had siding deteriorating off the house, single pane windows from early 1970s and rusted gutters. Of 4 quotes, including one from one of my favorite contractors, 3 generations was chosen. Not only because the price was the most competitive but they focus solely on siding and windows and clearly understand what is needed to be done.Things to consider:1. Make sure your estimates are apples to apples comparisons including mark-up/disct for payment method (aka cash), the brand/type of windows and siding.2. Consider contractors that specialize in the area. I have done many large projects over the 15-20 years of home improvements including additions and three kitchens - a general contractor will be more expensive and not necessarily the best choice in areas like windows/siding.3. Make sure you can make your decision quickly on type of windows/siding, colors, windows opening left/right and crank/slide open etc. - aka do your homework. 3 Generations helped tremendously but you still need to be sure you are comfortable with it.

I dissatisfied. I would have been wanting to work with them and asked for a cheaper window however they informed me they had no other price point and that I should save money and call them later.
Description of Work: Prior to purchasing the big deal I had called them to try and get a rough estimate on what it would cost for our 5 windows with the measurements on my stucco home and they quoted $2600 so I purchased the big deal to go towards that cost. Then when they came back out they told me it would be $3400 which was more than any other company I contacted.

Response from 3 Generations Improvements
As any professional would, we take negative feedback extremely seriously. We take great pride in our work and truly value each of our customers. We did not do any work for this particular member. He purchased an Angie's List Big Deal from us. After meeting with him and e-mailing him a professional detailed proposal, he found the price too high. Our price was $2,750 for 6 windows (not sure where the $3,400 came from). He wanted a lower price and a lower end window for around $150-$200 per window. I told him that I did not have access to windows that cheap. We do our best to provide extraordinary customer service, professionalism, and dedication. Because of these beliefs, we are not interested in dealing with products that do not share our same values of longevity and satisfaction. We must be able to put our name and reputation on a product and warrant materials that we are comfortable installing and believe will last. I did not feel that offering the member a low-end window would be good for him. Sometimes it is best to pass on a project to avoid future problems, as was the case. I politely told the member that we are not the company for him and that there would be no problem getting his money back from Angie's List for the purchase of the Big Deal. I did not get the sense that this bothered him. I tried calling him after seeing this review to discuss, but he did not return my call. Although pricing is important for all remodeling products there are other factors that must be considered - trust in the company who is installing them, warranties, long term viability of the product and manufacturer, customer service and much more! Typically, when our customers get 3-4 estimates, we are priced somewhere in the middle, but I have no doubt that we are providing more value for the dollar. As the old adage says - "you get what you pay for" – this becomes more true when remodeling your home. If you go with the low price leader are they licensed properly? Do they deal with quality products? Will they pick up your call if you have a problem with the material or installation in 2 years? Will they be in business in 5 years? I am the 3rd generation and I have 3 kids that may end up being the 4th, so each home that we remodel we feel is a part of our legacy. I’ve been in this industry my whole life, learning from my Dad and Grandfather. We know we can't win them all. But as long as you do the right and honest thing every time, you will hit the pillow at night with no regrets! "It's not just your home, it's our legacy.” It’s not just our slogan, it is how we conduct our business.

They were prompt and they worked diligently. If you have any precious plants near your house when they come, remove them because they won’t survive. They will tell you to trim your plants back and if you don’t they will not be there when they are done. They just did good job. They used quality product. My neighbor comes over and drools at the siding. He comes over and touches it and says that it is really nice stuff. He is the neighbourhood handy man. Price wise they were in the ball park of what I would pay. If you want it cheaper you spend time looking and that is not the way I do things. Quality was good and I will use them in the future.
