3 Generations quickly responded to my request for a quote. It took a bit of phone tag to schedule the appointment. I met with Kurt to see the house and take measurements for the quote. I showed Kurt all the issues and complications with the house. We had a nice conversation on my options. He was very up front about the potential issues with lead paint in older homes. He quickly got back to me with a reasonable quote for the amount of work that was needed. I did not get bids from other companies as I felt the quote from Kurt was quite reasonable. Once I decided to have the work done by 3 Generations, I met with Kurt one more time to discuss the product, color, and to leave a deposit of $1000. Kurt met me on a Saturday which I appreciated because it is so difficult for me to find time in my work schedule to meet during the week. Once I signed the contract, Kurt had the paint tested for Lead. Luckily, there was only a small amount of lead paint on the house. I also made some changes to the original plan asking for a slight change in the size of the siding for a part of the house and to add the addition of painting the front steps/deck and garage door. All my requests were accommodated at minimal change to the price (only for the additional painting). Since I was out going to be out of the country for a period of time, the work did not start until after July 4th. The crew showed on 06 July and was finished on 13 July. There was a significant amount of work under tight conditions as the houses are very close to each other. They showed up promptly each morning and worked to 5-6 pm, later on the last day. The last crew to come in on 14 July installed the gutters. They also showed up promptly and got to work quickly. The final product was better than I had expected. The addition of insulation and the new siding has made the house warmer and more sound proof. Kurt and the Crew were very prompt and professional. They answered all my questions in a timely manner. Their focus on quality is evident in the work. I will be contact them again when I am ready to replace the roof and install proper roof venting.

They went above and beyond what others had offered to do. They actually understood the complications of working with stucco exteriors and the fact that they are prone to leaking if the paper isn't replaced properly. They peeled back the stucco all around the door and did a great job of matching the existing stucco and paint. You can't tell at all that there is any new stucco and the new door is beautiful. I would definitely recommend them and will be using them again!
Description of Work: Jeremy and team replaced our old sliding glass door and did an amazing job.
Logan was an exceptional contact at 3G, he gave advice when we wanted, responded to inquiries immediately, clearly cared about being fair and the quality of the work. The team that worked on the project was led by Eugene. Eugene clearly took great pride in his craftsmanship, we had him do a lot of smaller various remodels around the house including custom cabinet and trim builds, and some electrical. I never felt like I was being taken advantage of, and I was 100% pleased throughout the process. Would 100% hire them in the future.

My wife and I are the owner builder of our current home. We contracted out much of the work so we have a lot of experience working with contractors. Our home was completed in 2000. After 14+ years the Cedar siding had deteriorated and needed to be replaced. We had many estimates and interviewed many Siding contractors, including the big box stores. We ended up selecting 3 Generations for our project. Of all the contractors we have worked with in the past... 3 Generations beats them all hands down! Their crew was simply exceptional. Their attention to detail was very impressive. The job site was cleaned after each day of work. Anytime you have a large project, issues will present themselves, and each one encountered was handled professionally and above and beyond our expectations. There were cases where some work was done that we did not think was in scope and we were not charged. Jeremy and his crew is a special group. My wife and I cannot say enough good things about them. We will recommend 3 Generations to anyone we know and use them again in the future without hesitation. Sincerely, Mark and Lynn El Dorado Hills

.Our original was a polymer siding. The City of Sacramento does not allow any type of vinyl siding. We then went with wood. Had rain during December but work started in January. The crew was here by 8 AM. Removed the old siding and installed the plywood backing. The intermediate inspection passed with no problems and the siding was delivered by late afternoon. The next moring the crew was here at 8AM to begin installing the siding and trim. By evening all was done and painted. It passed the final inspection with no problems. The siding looks great and the workmanship is outstanding

Everything went well from the beginning. Jeremy was always on time for appointments and communicated very well with us which sometimes involved several emails a day. We also met with his father, Kurt, one time and was very impressed with him as well. We had other quotes and felt that Jeremy's was reasonable considering everything that was involved. He was very knowledgeable about local codes and requirements. The crew was also very punctual and completed the job within the time frame we were promised. Everyone was polite and left the house clean when they left. The work looks great. We have older wood shingle siding and were concerned about it looking "patched" when the sliders were removed, but the siding looks perfect. We would highly recommend this local family owned business.

Kurt Owens, the president of the company, came out and gave me an estimate. He's very congenial and a very nice guy, very upfront and gave me a good price. The problem was, I thought they were a family-owned business. Apparently, they were using sub-contractors and he never bothered telling me that. My concern was, if these contractors were able to speak English . They sent two crews. One to do the siding which was done beautifully and I have no complaints about that. It was the catwalk, which goes around the perimeter of my house, that I was concerned about because the work was just shoddy. Both of them did good quality work but the clean up was absolutely pathetic. None of them cleaned up their work and just left the mess. I was just thinking about contacting them and have them redo the work but I'm through with them because I don't want them back here and I don't want to use them again. I will rate the quality work of the siding a B and the quality of the catwalk an F. On the first day that they came over, they didn't even bother knocking on the door and letting anybody know that they were working on the house. The following days, they came when they were supposed to but they didn't give us a specific time.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are happy to see that this member was satisfied with the siding work which was done but it seems we weren't able to meet his expectations on the catwalk. We have tried contacting this customer over 6 times via phone and email to resolve any issues with no luck, but we want to be sure that our current and future customers know we will never leave anyone high and dry. We take great pride in the quality of our work and will always be available to address any concerns that a customer may have and work to correct any issues. We hope that any member reading this will take the time to see our other reviews to get an idea of the quality and service you can expect when you choose 3 Generations Improvements for your project. It was fine and we've continued to use them. We have probably used them to do the deck three times now and they have been just fine. The price was much better when you use them through Angie's list, but the normal price probably doubles when they are not using Angie's List again. We've used various deck people over the years and had the deck about twenty years so we need to have something done every couple years. We have been satisfied with them because they done a decent job. So we haven't gone through biddings. However, we had used someone else who did a different procedure which we did not care for so we have stuck to Three Generations since then. We just look up on our records and see if they will do it and they have.

So far the experience with them has been excellent. They've been very responsive as far as stopping by and chatting about any questions or issues that I have. Also, when I compared their price against three other companies they happened to be about the lowest but not low. They were just at the lower end. I usually don't use the cheapest if it's a big job. Their quote was back within a couple of days. We then cleared up some additional questions and then the final contract, which I signed, cleared up all the issues that I had with regard to questions. At this point, I would highly recommend them.

Three Generations did an excellent job and were a pleasure to work with. A year later we are still very happy with their work. The initial visit to provide an estimate was very informative. Kurt explained exactly what the company would do, especially with regard to windows, corners, sections of the house that connect with neighbors, areas that get weather and other concerns. The team came several days early, on a weekend, to wrap the house when rain was predicted before our siding had arrived for install. When the installation occurred, the workmen were polite, focused and efficient. Kurt answered every question and concern I had along the way, responding to phone calls and texts very quickly. Per Kurt's advice, we chose prepainted cement siding versus primed. This increased the job cost by less than $300 and saved us the time and expense of having the addition painted. Best move we made with this project! He told me other siding installers would advise against prepainted siding because it's harder for them to install. He was correct. The other two estimators strongly suggested we go with primed product. The workers arrived on time, and finished the job on time. When we had inspected the work ourselves in the days following we noticed a few small areas that needed further attention (missed paint touch ups on areas of trim, missing bead of caulk on one door), we called Kurt. He came the next day to review the issues and then sent a team a few days later to take care of everything. We were very pleased with the entire experience.

From start to finish, 3 Generations was a professional and responsive company to work with. We came to them with a challenging situation--our window and siding project had been started without proper permits and we had to dismiss the first crew we hired. After being burned our friend's referral, I searched high and low for an honest company to work with. I interviewed 10 contractors/siding and window installers before I signed up for Angieslist and found 3 Generations. I called 3G expecting them to tell me that our house was out of their service area, but to my surprise Kurt was not only interested in taking a look at our project, he was able to come to our house the next day (traveling from Folsom to Half Moon Bay). When Kurt came to our home to see what had been done by the previous workers, he started talking about what he would do differently and pulled out the manufacturer's manuals. With that, I knew Kurt was on the same page as we were. His standards are high and he makes sure his crew's standards are as well. 3G's estimate provided so much bang for the buck! We initially thought we would only hire them for the windows and siding, but their prices and quality were so great that we asked them to work on our decks and railings. They took on our project in a timely manner--squeezing us in so we could get our house wrapped and waterproofed before the coastal summer rain came. We worked with Kurt, Jeremy and Logan to fine tune all the details of our project--and they were all fantastic. The crew led by Yuriy was also very professional. Our neighbors commented on the fact that they worked fast and left our house clean and tidy each day. Everyone at 3 Generations really does treat your home as their own. We ended up with a house more beautiful than we could have imagined.

Both Jeremy and Kurt Owens did a thorough job explaining their bid and their experience with the Certainteed Cedar Impressions shake siding that we wanted. Their bid was very competitive. They kept us posted about the starting date and permit acquisition, and their crew finished the work in only 3 days. We were impressed with all aspects of their work. 3 G Improvements has to rank as one of the very best contractors we have ever worked with.

From the initial request through to the completion of the work, the entire 3 Generations Improvements team were fantastic. To give some background; after a series of storms (or rather showers) hit San Jose , it became obvious that we would have to take care of the exterior before continuing our interior renovations, water was finding it's way through the window fascias and no matter how much calking was applied, we could stop the leaks. Our property is a 2000 sq/ft townhouse, built in the early 80's and covered in shake shingles that had never been maintained. We invited 3 Generation Improvements to come in and quote us for removing all of the shake shingles and replace them with a composite material (this also included wrapping all exposed wood in an aluminum casing. Additionally, we wanted to replace two sliding doors and four downstairs windows, plus fix some roof issues. Kurt from 3 Generations Improvements came by and explained all the different products they had to offer; together with color samples for each product. For the windows we asked for quotes to match the other windows that we'd previously updated. Kurt walked through the entire house, we explained where the problem areas were and Kurt explained what they could do to fix the problem. Once we had decided on a particular product Jeremy provided renderings of what the house could look like once the product had been applied, this was great as it meant we could visualize the finished project. Since it's impossible to assess how much water and termite damage may lie under the shake shingles the quote was geared towards the worst possible case. This was was good because as the work progressed, it became clear that we had extensive water damage to both the front and rear balcony's. This water damage resulted in a complete rebuild of both balcony's. Even with rebuilding the balcony's the work didn't go above the original quote. The 3 Generations team put in extra hours both during the week and at the weekend to ensure the project stayed on track. We also found that the wall above the garage had started to subside, this required a new header being inserted. The 3 Generations Improvement's crew worked tirelessly from 8am through till 6pm or later. Each day the job site was left tidy and clean. The crew also took time to listen to us and where we wanted to deviate from the original plan they were happy to accommodate our requests. For example, we decided to replace the roof gutters and clad other beams in aluminum to prevent future rot. The quality of the work is excellent; we've received so many great complements on how great our house looks. We gone from the ugly house on the corner to the best house on the block :-) The project went to plan, even with all the additional work that we requested. (Note: The price reported didn't include the roof repairs as these were performed by a third party on the recommendation of 3 Generation Improvements.

An easy company to recommend for siding and windows. That is their area of specialty, and I'm not sure if they even do anything else. They are located in Folsom, but had no issue traveling to work on our home in Oakland. Although the company name is 3 Generations because it was started by the grandfather, it actually is operated now by the father, Kurt Owens, and his son, Jeremy. Both are stand up guys. We received 3 bids. One company you'll find good reviews for too was about $20k (!) higher; word on the street is they sub all their work out, but got greedy and have high mark-up to get a substantial profit after paying the sub. The other company was about the same price as 3G, but primarily did roofing. I also have a window/glass guy, but he doesn't do siding. I ultimately was swayed by the fact that siding and windows is what 3G is licensed for and it's all they do. It shows. Their attention to detail and wealth of experience was evident throughout the project. Two of the other contractors mentioned above and with whom I have ongoing relationships, came by our house for other matters during the project and each were SUPER complimentary of the work being done, downright admiring certain details and telling me that, though they'd like the work, they each felt we made the right decision as the work done was clearly very professional. Kurt and Jeremy also were very responsive to my many calls and emails about various details and follow up on every open item. Their crew was outstanding and clearly could build a home from scratch if asked. We'll definitely have them return to replace some additional windows and do more siding on other parts of our house. As noted at the outset, these guys are easy to recommend.
Description of Work: We had them remove our old original siding from 1947, re-bolt our foundation while the walls were open, add insulation (what an improvement), sheerwall (i.e. add OSB/plywood to create greater structural stability and also a flat surface for the siding), a moisture protection barrier, Hardieplank cement fiber siding that was manufactured to match the color or our house (a 15 year warranty on not needing to paint, and a 30 year warranty on the siding itself), and added or replaced 11 windows with Milgard Essence Low-E, double pane windows (warrantied for life).
