Well since my first mortgage payment wasnt due for about 2 months after I signed final loan documents, I thought that was plenty of time for work to be completed to the home and for my family and I to move in. Boy was I wrong! I began contacting the contractor almost immediately after signing loan documents to give exact details of what I wanted, color of paint, carpeting, etc and to make sure that work was going to begin soon. I was assured that work would begin in a couple of days. I would go to the home daily and see that no work was being done, then be told it was going to be another couple of days. Week passed no work being done and no call from contractor. I go to the home one day on my day off and find a crew painting the home without any notice from contractor. I go inside the property through my open garage to find men painting the interior of the home. The color didnt look the same as the one I had picked out but one of the workers told me that it will dry darker and that this is the paint that the contractor advised them to buy. I was so happy the work was beginning that I believed the worker and left the home happy as a lark that we were going to be moving into our first home soon. Painting done! Work was okay, small things not done properly like I could see paint on cupboards( but it was no big deal). I thought that more work was going to be done the next day so imagine my surprise when the next day turned into the next week and still no work was done to the bathrooms, carpeting, or foundation.Well I gave my 30 day notice for my apartment only after being assured from the contractor that the work would be completed well within the 30 days. I began calling the contractor on a daily basis to ask if any work would be done that day and sometimes I received a call back sometimes not. Well after the home sat empty with no work being done for 3 weeks I decided to call it quits with the contractor. I called him on a saturday morning about 730am and asked him for his final bill and that I would find someone else to complete the job. I got a call back from him within 1 hour!!! He said that the work would begin on Monday. By this time my 30 DAY NOTICE was almost up and I had to move all of our belongings into my garage and move my family into my mothers 2 bedroom/1 bath apartment that she shared with my brother. Six people living in a 2 bedroom apartment and my first mortgage payment was coming up!I began to get extremely angry at the situation. Bathroom work had begun and complicatons had risen. Master bath shower had to be completely replaced, tile removed, vuliding permit needed, etc. But I was happy that the work was being started. Last final thing that needed to be started and completed prior to me moving in was carpeting. I had to inform the contractor and his staff to order the carpet from home depot (which can take up to 2 wks for delivery). While we are all still living with my mother the second big issue arises. I went to drop off some items into the garage of the home one late afternoon and workers were at the home installing carpet (I received no information from contractor that carpet was being installed that day). I advised the worker that the carpet was lighter than I had remembered I was told that the carpet would be lighter outside with the sun on it but it would be darker inside. It seemed to make sense since we were outside and the sun was shining on it. I told the worker that I would return with a capret swatch to make sure the color was correct. I returned a couple of hours later and the 2 workers were gone! I placed the carpet swatch against the completed carpet and sure enough wrong color carpet!! Frustration had reached a peak but it was late in the evening so I decided to call the contractor first thing in the morning. The contractor informed me that it was Home Depot's error and that he would go to the store that day to find out what happened. Not trusting him or his word I went to Home Depot,to the carpet department and made a complaint. The women who handles complaints called me an hour later and during our conversation advised me that based on what I told her the carpet could not have been installed in such a short period of time,by two workers! She advised me not to worry she would research further and get back to me the next day. Long story short Home Depot sent an inspector to the home and the new WRONG color carpet was placed over the old pad. Please bear in mind that the contractor had charged me 900.00 for new pad!!! Home Depot did receive the wrong color carpet and I am glad they did, because of that error and because of the excellent Michaela Rangel at Home Depot I was able to get carpet installers from Home Depot to install the correct pad, and corrct color carpet to my home and they did a fantastic job! The contractor said that they guy he hired to do the work had never lied about something like that before. At this point I didnt care what was done to the home I wanted the work completed and for this contractor to get away from me asap! To wrap it up I was stuck with the new wrong color carpet and he had ordered 72 square feet more than what I needed to carpet the home. All the extra is in my garage!!! To conclude this horrible experience I later found out that he painted the whole house the wrong color, he broke the tile in both bathrooms, the caulking in hall bathroom had areas that weren't sealed properly and he had to come out to seal the area so water damage wouldnt occur. My children got stuck in the bathroom because of the bathroom door that he replaced was a old door with a damaged lock. And I think thats about it. I am new to the home buying, and renovation rules. But I know quality when I see it. This contractor is horrible! He is not trustworthy and the quality of work is poor.
Description of Work: Hired this contractor because my realtor suggested him. I am a first time home buyer and was gulliable enough to believe that my realtor was suggesting this contractor for my best interest. I bought a short sale and the home had a lot of work that needed to be done before it was habitable. This contractor was hired to paint the interior of the home; replace door, light fixture, toilet and bath tub in hall bath; replace shower pan in master bath;several areas needed dry rot removed from foundation and beams in the roof area; and carpet was to replaced. Also their was electric work that needed to be done and the existing deck was to be removed.
