I watched the tv show, Undercover boss and it made an impression on me. I said, if I have the opportunity and $$ to have a company move us, then this is the one. Annette came out 3 times over 2 years to re-estimate our move. I deducted, sold, bought, sold and finally the day came. Everyone was professional, had personality and worked their tails off. Follow up was awesome with a manager coming by to make sure we were happy. Not one thing broken. They did pack up mirrors, art, lamps, and some small kitchen items. Next move I will just have them do the whole things. There price was cheaper than another big name in town...... Thanks you guys and gals!

We used United Van Lines for a cross country move about 3 years ago and they were fabulous! They recommended Chipman as their local mover since we were moving into a temporary accommodation. They were fabulous with a few minor repairs, they sent someone out to evaluate and came back to fix, all done in a timely and efficient manner. Unfortunately two years later we had to make another local move and being so satisfied with Chipman we called the same salesman. This move did not go well at all or as promised. They were to pack up our 1500 sq ft house one day, come back early next day to load and unload new home by approx. 1pm. They arrived late, forgot specific packing paper, left early and did not finish a 1500 sq ft home. The packers that packed our 2500 sq ft house on east coast finished by 3pm same day, packed professionally and efficiently and came back next day to load, all done in the promised timeline. These nice young men came back next day with two more guys to finish packing, still didn't bring the right packing paper and by 4pm they finally finished loading, didn't get to new home until 6:30pm that evening, didn't finish unloading until 10:30 pm. Boxes were not completely taped and loose at bottom that carried glass framed art, clothes in wardrobe boxes were just thrown at bottom of box (and they had not fallen off rods as clothes on rods were still in place) all our drawers from dresser were taken out when we were told we didn't have to pack our clothes, they were put in truck independently without any coverings, consequently there were pieces of dirt from the truck in our clothes drawers (when we moved cross country, same dresser, they never removed drawers) heavy pantry boxes were left in garage, plastic items from kitchen were packed TWO at a time (ie a plastic spatula with a strawberry huller...a muddler with a wood spoon) Consequently we had an abundance of wasted paper and cardboard boxes that took extra time to unpack that we had to flatten and store in our garage until we figured out what to do with them. The amount of time it took them to pack a 1500 sq ft house was way over the promised time. It took them 2 days to pack and had to go into the late evening to finally unload when our salesman said they would probably be done unloading by 1pm (NOT 10:30pm) My husband was at old house waiting for them to finish, he was livid. I was at new house by 10:00 am thinking they'd be close behind me. I sat in an empty house until 6:30 pm (and it was my birthday, something I'd mentioned to the salesman but he ensured they'd be gone by mid afternoon so we could celebrate and go out for my birthday dinner. That didn't happen and I was alone sitting on the floor all day for my birthday) We contacted our salesman and management to discuss this disappointing move and needed someone to pick up the huge amount of extra boxes and paper, they had the nerve to want to charge us. We contacted upper management and within an hour Mr. Chipman called us directly. He was extremely surprised and apologetic and said once we finished unpacking, he would review and compensate us further and once we filled out our Claims for anything broken in the move, to call him back. We mentioned after this fiasco that they were going to charge us to pick up the boxes. Within minutes someone called us back from his office and arranged pick up free of charge. He was the one who told us to call him after our Claim was put through for further compensation. We paid over $4,000 for this move. Shame on us for being dedicated to a company and didn't get any further quotes but we did not anticipate this type of unprofessionalism nor lack of compensation after we discussed the whole distressing move with the owner of the company. Thoroughly disappointed in that because our first conversation was very respectful and further compensation would be forthcoming once our Claims were put through and reviewed. An inspector came out to review broken items. The offer was $45.00 based strictly on extra insurance. There was no compensation offered to us as Mr. Chipman mentioned, he never returned our calls. We were never compensated for the fiasco and although It was not the packers fault, we were told from them, they were all new and there was no training, they should never have been used for our big move or at least had a competent boss directing them. They were nice young guys who were put in this situation but it should not have hindered our move, considering the cost. The disappointment to date, being told by Mr. Chipman we would be further compensated for basically our and quot;pain and sufferingand quot;, we were not and never spoke with him again after my initial conversation. Will NEVER use them again or recommend them.

Our experience with Chipman Relocations was excellent in all respects from the survey and quotation to the loading and unloading of our furniture. We contracted Chipman to move our furniture and boxes that we had packed. Our Relocation Coordinator, Statia, was very helpful in providing boxes and coordinating the move. The crew (Tiny,Jose, Shawn, Royal, Tim and Alonzo) were punctual and showed up on time. They toured our old house as a team so that each member knew what had to be done. They proceeded in a professional manner to disassemble the furniture and load the truck. What really impressed me was how the worked together as a team in a very good natured atmosphere. Care was taken with all of our things in packing and loading the truck. When we arrived at our new home, it was the same process in reverse, a tour of the house as a team and then they swung into action. We had just had our new house painted and we assumed that there would be some dings in the new paint from the movers. They were so careful that there was not a single ding or mark on any of the walls or door frames. There was no damage or breakage to our possessions either. Fantastic! The entire move to our new home has been tiring and, in some cases, difficult. The high point in the entire process was the part that Chipman Relocations handled for us. We actually enjoyed working with the crew. We highly recommend Chipman Relocations of Fairfield to anyone require the assistance of a moving company.

We have used several relocation services in the past and they are by far the worse we have ever used. They were completely unresponsive to any problems. They were unprofessional. They were supposed to move some belonging to an apartment while we were in process of relocating, but they did not bring the correct items. We have small children and it was very difficult without our belongings. They didn't bring the correct furniture and refuse to bring other furniture from storage. So now we only have 1 chair for 5 people, we have to sit on the floor. I had asked them to reimburse us for some cookware that they completely lost and they refuse to do so. They are just completely unprofessional and a bad company to work with.

They were fabulous. They were on time and professional. They bent over backwards to accommodate me. They probably did things that they normally wouldn't have done. They got along well with one another and were very friendly with us.

Terrible - Chipman subcontracted to Mayflower, who showed up and didn't know they were supposed to pack my pictures. they had to call Chipman to confirm and then has boxes and packing materials delivered. They picked up my stuff 8/22/11 in Roseville and delivered 8/23/11 in Ramona. They arrived around 5pm that evening and started unloading. I signed a waiver regarding taking inventory of my items because they did not finish until after 11pm that evening. I had 14 pages of inventory items which I did not review that night to see if anything was missing. I was told I had 90 dyas to report any lost or damaged items. After reviewing my property I determined I was missing a large duffel bag with all my expense snorkeling gear and a small duffel bag with a Kricut cutter and multiple templates. When I looked up all my items on the internet and determined the replacement value was $1525.00. I submitted my claim 10/3/11 which was within my 90 days and 10/21/11 received a letter from Chipman denying my claim based on me signing the waiver. I called them and told them I would give them a chance if they agreed to compensate me for some of my loss, they said not but would send up for management review. They could not locate my property and I signed the waiver. Really if they delivered snorkeling gear and a profession cutter, who is going to return them. They are or were probable on Craig's List the next day. BE WARNED DON'T USE CHIPMAN OR MAYFLOWER! Charlene Bartman
Description of Work: Hired United Van Lines to move all my household property from Roseville, CA to Ramona, CA. Chipman is a sub-division of United Van Lines and they sub-contracted to Mayflower. They were to move my property, pack my pictures and my antiques. They were the lowest bidder. The other bids from Allied for 5,215.30 and Bekin for 5,176.37. I checked Chipman on Angie's List and they did not have a negative report at that time. Do Not sign any waiver on your property even if they deliver too late, make them come back when you have had an opportunity to review your property. Do Not pick the lowest bidder!! If I had paid the additional $700 - $800 dollars I would still not have been at a loss for $1500. Do Not Use Chipman!!!

It went very smoothly from start to finish, with only a couple of minor glitches which were quickly remedied. For example, one item I had designated for the move was sent instead to storage, but Chipman was able to relocate the item and deliver it to me within days.

We chose Chipman because Dan Walker, one of their estimators/consultants had moved one of us years ago when he had his own company. His explanation of the costs and advice on all aspects of preparation and moving were excellent and very helpful. The driver and crew stopped by briefly a day before packing to assess the setting, see what was going to be moved, and answer questions. My husband spent some effort persuading Randy Ulanowski, the driver, that he needed to use a smaller truck to have ready access to our remote rural home, and Randy went out of his way to obtain such a truck. On the day of the move, Randy and the crew were efficient, careful, courteous, helpful, and reassuring. They worked well with us. Delivery the next day went smoothly and our belongings arrived in excellent condition. We were very happy and relieved that everything went so well.
Description of Work: Chipman moved us from a suburban home to a new home in a remote, rural location. Their estimator provided us with costs and explanation of a range of options. Chipman packed dishes and lamps, moved our furniture and a piano, and moved boxes we had packed with clothing and other household items. We did not move major appliances.

Chipman performed our move from San Jose, CA to Denver, CO in April 2011. Originally we were going to go the route of PODS, and do all of the loading and unloading ourselves, but we decided it wouldn't hurt to get a quote on a "full-service" move and we selected Chipman to set our appointment with, based on reviews found here on Angie's List. We're so glad we did! The price turned out to be not all that much different, with whatever difference in cost there was being some of the best money I ever spent to have a professional team load the truck rather than doing the considerable task ourselves. But what really sold us at the beginning was the outstanding service we experienced from the get-go when the assessor, Ralph, came to see us. Ralph was VERY thorough in both his inventory and his explanations, and we received outstanding communication and service throughout from him. We changed our desired inventory a few times, and we were very impressed to always receive immediate communication back from Ralph, usually within an hour. Grade A+ service all the way. As the moving day drew near, we were set up with a moving coordinator at Chipman's office. Rena was friendly, helpful, and accessable, and she answered some of the specific questions I had regarding our moving day. The one issue we had throughout the entire move, however, was when I got a call from Rena the morning of our scheduled move, telling me that another stop had been scheduled for our driver by dispatch, and that he would be delayed a couple of hours. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with this 11th hour change; I would think the company would be able to either plan better, and give me more advanced notice of the change in plans, or make other arrangements for this last-minute pick-up since they had committed to do our pickup at a set time (which was confirmed to me only a few days earlier) When the moving team finally did arrive that afternoon, our driver, Randy, and his team impressed us greatly with both their expertise and communication. We were the last load going on the truck, and the fit was VERY close. As amazing as Randy and his team were in getting almost all items packed into the truck, we were more impressed with the above and beyond service we received, as the team went so far as to carry the last few boxes (that would not fit into the trailer) in the cab with them. Also, at a point when it became questionable as to whether or not all items would fit in the load, Randy was excellent in communication and even devised a wise and agreeable contingency plan in case we ran out of room. Finally, Randy and his team were available by cell phone during the entire transport, and they were on time (in fact, several hours early) with their delivery. They provided top-of-the-line service in every facet. In all, we would use Chipman again. I really want to rate them with A's across the board, however in my review I cannot ignore the facts about the last minute delay in our pickup nor the very narrow fit in getting all of our belongings on the truck. We received outstanding service at every step along the way, but unfortunately this is muted somewhat by an apparent lack of planning at the home office. Just a very slight modification to that end would have made for a flawless overall move experience. As it was, we were still very satisified with the overall service, the price, and the end result. A couple of tense moments, as disappointing as they were, cannot take much away from an overall satisfying moving experience, and I recommend using this company to facilitate your move.
Description of Work: Chipman performed our move from San Jose, CA to Denver, CO in April 2011. We were moving from a two bedroom, one bath home plus a garage, and we packed most of the items into boxes ourselves, while Chipman loaded all of our items onto their United Vanlines moving truck and drove them the 1250 miles to our new home. Prior to our move, they sent an assessor to quantify our belongings, give us a firm quote, and explain the process, and we were also set up with move coordinator who would serve as our point of contact in the days leading up to our move. Our driver had a crew that helped him load items at our old home and unload them at our destination, where they moved our items into different rooms based on where we told them we'd like them. The pricing was based on estimated weight (based on our inventory taken by the assessor), and was a guaranteed maximum price, although the price could reduce if the actual weight was found to be less during the actual move.

Overall went well. Would use them again. Wasnt perfect, but when you are talking about moving companies--generally you want the least bad one. United Moving and their affiliates like Chippman Relocation, Armstrong Relocation are generally the least bad of all of them.

I was very pleased with the service I received from this company. The crew of four men- one more than promised- were very professional, hardworking, and respectful of all property. In addition, they were efficient and patient on both ends of the move. The company issued me a not-to-exceed quote and honored that figure. They were able to provide all the services I requested and made helpful suggestions both before and after all the items were moved. When I needed to contact the company halfway during the move, someone was available to take my call and answer questions.
Description of Work: I hired this company to move all of my household goods from one town to another, approximately 40 miles in distance. I did all the packing of small items myself but needed the moving crew to handle everything else, which included a china cabinet, baby grand piano, dresser with marble top, several large pieces of artwork, and a heavy glass table top.

They arrived on time and after a bit of paperwork started moving the items right away. They moving truck they came with was far oversized for the amount of stuff that I had to move. They were courteous and efficient. My only complaint is that one of them tracked in some grease from their shoes and soiled the carpets and rugs. After it was pointed out to them, they placed some red carpet on the floor and cleaned their shoes to prevent any further damage.

AWESOME! A week before our move a representative (George) came over to sign a "not-to-exceed" contract (meaning on the day of the move they could not come up with random charges). The day of the move, the movers (Matt, Chris and Chris) came and were extremely nice and professional. They helped set up our new place (put together new furniture, helped move things around) and they were SO fast. The actual move was 3 hours faster than the estimated time and the overall cost was a lot less than the 'not-to-exceed' amount. They were careful with all of our fragile items and even took extra care around our dogs to make sure they didn't get out while they were moving the stuff.
