The service went reasonably well. First, a technician measured our property and then a landscape architect made the actual plan. Initially, they were quick to respond, but then we had to wait for the plans. Also, when they initially measured the properly, it was incorrect, according to the way they drew the out plans. We weren't ecstatic, but I think for the price, they did an okay job.

Not very well

It has been a bad experience so far. The landscaper said she would return within the week to take measurements and said her fee was $1200.00. When I explained the deal to her she seemed confused; she said she didn't know anything about the deal I had bought. I did tell her that I wasn't in a hurry since my home was under construction but that I planned to landscape this fall. I never heard from her- I waited seven and a half weeks before I called the company. I explained the situation to the receptionist and she said she would look into it. About 15 minutes later the manager called me and apologized for the lack of customer service and that there must have been a miscommunication between the office and the landscaper. Without my asking, he said he was going to refund my $85.00 and said I would have a sketch by that Friday. I thought he was very gracious about the situation and looked forward to a check and the sketch. That was last Tuesday; it's now nine days later and still no check or sketch. However, I did get two tickets to a local home and garden show in the mail two days after the manager called me. I don't recommend doing business with Five Star Landscaping. I am calling again tomorrow to see about my refund. At this point I don't even want the sketch.

Purchased four hours of landscape planning through Angies List. While the consultant did come to my house as promised to discuss my needs, they have never provided the landscape plan that they indicated they would be sending even though it has been four months. When I called to ask about that, I was told that the Consultant would call me back, but she never did. What a waste of time and money! Updated: October 1, 2012 In its response, the company indicated they offered a full refund, but they never did. Instead, on August 3, 2012 (months after their consultant came onsite to survey the propery), I received the following unedited email message (along with the plan that had been promised months before): and quot;Please accept my sincere apology regarding the lack of professionalism FiveSTAR Landscape has demonstrated. The sad part is that the plan has been completed and a bid was being prepared. It seems that all of this could have been avoided if we would have communicated with you properly. There was well over 40 of these same plans sold to clients and not one was handled this poorly. I am not sure why you were singled out, but I can assure you that this matter will be brought up with the entire team. Whether the potential client is spending $85 or $85,000 there are no excuses for the lack of communication and follow-through. If I can be of any assistance in the future or if you would like to discuss this further my direct cell phone number is 916-799-2261. Sincerely, Timothy C. Also, while there was one voicemail message left for me, it also did not offer a refund. I did not return the voice mail since it seemed futile to do so since no offer or representation about how to make this whole was submitted to me.

Professional, efficient, on time, very flexible. Understood my situation and was very agreeable to what I needed. He understood that I had already contracted, but needed to change plans mid way due to health issues. Said he would give a report on the project of what was going where and what to put around the plantings.

We purchased an Angie's List deal for $85 for 4 hours for landscaping consultation and plans. I was very impressed that the company called me the same day I purchased the deal to schedule the initial consultation. When the consultant came out, she was on-time, was friendly, and listened to my ideas. I provided her with - a sketch of our yard with some approximate dimensions provided by our builder - information and pictures on what we were looking for and plants we liked - plans that had previously been submitted to our HOA and approved along with a list of changes we wanted to make to those plans Unfortunately it had been raining a lot that week so she was unable to really go out and take good measurements of her own. We scheduled a follow up meeting for the next Friday. This is where the low rating on punctuality came in. I received a call on Friday morning saying that they had gotten too busy and the plans would not be ready for another week. I could live with that and we scheduled a meeting for the next week. The following Friday came and both my husband and I made sure we would be there on time and nobody from the company showed. I called the consultant and got her voice mail. She called back about an hour later and told me the landscape engineer was supposed to come out but she couldn't get a hold of him. She said she had told him to call her back right away. Eventually we heard back from her on Monday and she offered to email us the plans. When we got the plans there were several items that did not reflect our discussion (major items were in the wrong place - garden, trampoline, swingset), trees that were dead were not removed from the plan, no lighting. I asked for it to be corrected and they were responsive in providing a correction and letting me know that this had caused them to go over 4 hours. The plan is good and usable except that the A/C still shows in the wrong place so the plants they recommended for that area probably won't work. I think their work is good quality, but I don't like to work with service companies that don't show up as promised.

After they completed the project, there were cracks in the concrete. We had difficulty getting them to fix it. They patched it and it looked horrible and actually looked worse than before. We attempted to get them to come back out but yhey make it difficult to pursue them. We have finally given up. I would not recommend them to other people.

The company didn't do much in the way of honoring its service agreement. Weeds were allowed to grow everywhere, shrubs were not trimmed, promised irrigation repairs were left undone, and yard debris was not hauled away from the premises. We finally compiled a list of complaints and asked that the lapses in service be remedied over the course of the following month, but no improvements were noticed. As it happens, we more recently entered into a contract with a firm called Capital Landscape and later learned that Capital and Five Star shared common ownership. Capital also performed in a very unsatisfactory manner, which was more disappointing to us than surprising.

I spent $2000 on that work. They had knowledge of plants and irrigation. They were professional. I worked through a woman who was the main contact and she got us the estimate. She was also the program manager so whenever I wanted something done, I had to communicate to the workers through her. There was once a miscommunication where she said that some work will be done and when I spoke to the worker he said that it was not. So I was a little unhappy with that. The price was a little high. They were very responsive and always called me back whenever I called them.

They are easy to work with, and they do quality work.

I liked them very much. They are best for mowing the lawn and cleaning up. I stopped using them as I could not afford them anymore. I used to spend $99 a month. They would come out once a week. I was satisfied with them. The price was reasonable. They were friendly. I needed someone to help me with my trees and other things. They were more into maintenance of lawn. Their price was comparable to other companies. They once mistook a flowering plant to be a weed and they whacked it down. It did grow back, but I expect them to their plants. I had another flowering plant that really needed trimming, but they never did it as they did not have the right tool. They could have been more creative with their ideas. The work that they did was done well, but I needed something different. I would use them again if I were looking for someone who would do the basic lawn work.

If I had to use one word to describe Five Star, it would have to be PROFESSIONAL. Mark gave me a detailed extimate, and I knew what to expect at every stage of the project. They did what they said they would do, the way they said they would do it, on time and under budget. Mark also had some good ideas to improve the looks of our landscaping. The crew was very professional as well. There were no blaring radios, no tracking through the house, and they cleaned up their work area at the end of every day. They worked fast and did a great job. They were also very flexible. There were some changes we wanted to make (add an area for raised vegetable garden beds, replace turf with decomposed granite in one high traffic area, add sprinklers for a new flower bed) and each time Bryan, the supervisor, or Larry, the crew boss, simply said, "no problem, we can do that." They were not happy until the job was done absolutely right. Minor adjustments to the sprinklers and a couple of the drain grates were made immediately.

He's been so good and friendly to me. He gave me some last minute tips with how to keep up what's he's done. He's a fast worker and he's a very hard worker. He did this all by himself. Everyday he was here he cleaned up after himself thoroughly. You couldn't even tell there had been any work done. His work is beautiful. He did all this work in about 4 days. I can't say enough good things about him! I highly recommend him.
