He had difficulty to say the least. His stem wall forms were not properly set and it was blowing out in the back where it was a few feet high. The slab he poured is terribly cracking to the point where I can put a quarter in the cracks and this is only after 3 months or so. The biggest issue is where my garage door sits- he poured it out of level and there is a 2 inch gap under one side. The wall he poured was also blowing out, is not straight and is tilted. He has abandoned the job!! Update 11/12/14 there was more than 28 days that went by before any construction started because I was fighting with Mark Allen and the licensing board to resolve the issue. After a couple months I decided to move forward with my project given the red tape. HIS COMMENTS IN THE RESPONSE ARE BLATENT LIES, BUT I WOULD NOT EXPECT ANYTHING LESS FROM HIM. Mark Allen was forced by the state contractors licensing board to pay me what they determined it would take to fix my "main" issue which was the gap under my garage door. He questions my character but I think we all know as consumers who to believe. It is unfortunate that consumers have to be bound by industry regulators which in this case actually helped him because there was " only so much they could do". He was forced to pay me the cost to replace the portion of the slab under the garage door which came to $4300. ALL OTHER ISSUES, like the wall, were considered "functional" basically meaning it wasn't falling over. I have a 20 page independent report that backs what I am saying. If I could have not taken the cash to keep Mark Allen from doing business, I would have chosen that hands down. Please save yourself a huge headache and find someone else.
Description of Work: Set and poured a stem wall for a detached garage foundation and then poured a floating slab. Also extended a retaining wall that was pour in place concrete.

Response from Allen, Mark construction
While it is true that there are predatory contractors out there, it is also true there are clients that seek to take advantage of contractors with the idea of getting work done and never paying for it.Again and again. We had been warned on this client and should have listened. About the only issue that is true was that the front of his garage was out of level. We offered a variety of fixes. He refused all of them and unstead wanted a cash payout beyond even the contract price. That was when I knew we needed the help of the contractors board who deemed that almost all of what he was saying was nothing more then an attempt to create a lottery win. Ithe cracking was due to the client applying lumber loads when the concrete was green. Concrete needs to cure for a full 28 days before loading . He was framing on it within days.this is also the same character trying to install an illegal bathroom in his garage. He tried to not pay the concrete company the day of the pour . These are just a few examples of his character. We have been in business for close to thirty years with not one bond payout, consumer complaint or otherwise. We can provide referrals and show work at any time.
