Rocky and his son are nice guys. I left them at my house with out me there several times with out fear. They are trust worthy and not bad people. In fact personally I liked them. Unfortunately their work is kind of haphazard. They are unorganized and rushed and this is reflected in the quality of the work. During the job they had the following things occur to cause them to not show, show very late or leave early. Most if not all the time I would have to call and say where are you. Lack of proactive communication is a pet peeve of mine. I know things happen but don't make me chase you down for your excuse on not meeting your commitment. -3 different car break downs, -2 different flooded kitchens at other property requiring emergency repair -1 family member stroke. I am not saying these things did not happen I am saying that since they did Rocky and son are probably good to go now right? You will not have these things happen to you should you retain them. I am also saying that if I had use these excuses with my job I would probably be fired. This project took a couple months so it is hard for me to write a play by play. Let me say that the demo went well. The rough in went pretty well. Pretty much every step of the way I had to point things out to Rocky. For example I told him the vanity would be floating. He gives you the yes no problem then he roughs in the drain pipe too low and has to move it. I showed him the side splash for the sink and handed to him with the instructions. I said "you need to cut this to NOT over hang just like it says in the instructions. It is ok if it is 1/2" short but it cannot overhang." Yea yea. Well guess what it over hangs. I pointed it out to him and said I will live with it but I'd like it fixed. I specifically told you not to let it overhang. I gave him the chance to make it better. He didn't so the review reflects that. So that was the experience from start to finish. I would bring a concern up and he would say don't worry then he would go ahead and forget my concern. All the reveals in the bathroom are off. The tile reveal on the shower is .5" at the bottom and over and inch at the top. The mirror is off too. I mentioned this knowing I was stuck with it but Rocky said yes the walls are not straight. Now the house is 50+ years old I would expect you have to do some shimming behind the drywall so you have a good finished product. Apparently that is not obvious to this crew. In the end I told them not to come back. It was driving me crazy to run them through a punch list that got worse every time they came. I have paint on a nice stained vanity because these guys are careless and have no attention to detail. I have unpainted calk everywhere because they left gaps and apparently do not know that you fill then paint. They did a bunch or really idiotic things. Again because they were in a hurry to get to some other persons house they said they would be at and weren't. I have pictures I would like to add to this as it will help you decide for yourself. I had to add another note. I keep finding more things as time goes on. Suffice it to say the paint and calk clean up on other items, toilette floor tiles (not cheap) and vanity is a project that I should not be dealing with.
Description of Work: I retained Rocky and Son, Sage Hill Construction to remodel a bathroom. The bathroom had probably been done over at least once or twice very cheaply and badly since the house was built in the 1950s. It was in bad shape and need a to the frame gut and replace. It is my only bathroom so we had to be able to use it as much as possible during the project. I retained them to demo the existing bathroom remove all the debris and cart away. install a new tub To put up the drywall and dryboard to install new vanity and sink to install all fixtures move the toilet location requiring cement demo and pouring install a mirror and medicine chest replace the door and all hardware replace all fixtures and lighting and install a fan (roof vent already there) install base board and trim texture paint and finish Basically everything from start to finish on old bathroom to new. We used and electrician of mine for the electrical and a tile guy of Rockys for the floor and shower surround.

Response from Sage Hill Construction Company
[member name removed] was a great client and I enjoyed working with him. It was a fortunate agreement for him that he was able to order his own fixtures and recoup those savings by not running it through my account, it's unfortunate how fast we forget we what we ordered is not "what we ordered' and how quickly we blame others for while we I patiently wait for the tub, medicine cabinet and light fixtures of his choice, the cabinet was another issue. BUT on the bright side if you look at the pictures of the finish job it is good one... keeping in mind the a 1/16th" is better than 1/4" and that the max of my tolerances. My tolerances are way above industry standards. I stand by my work and there is none better in the industry then my standards. I have been building in S.D. County for over 30 years with quality and integrity.
