Description of Work: They performed the work ordered, built a wall and poured concrete patio. No response to multiple calls for finishing additional wall length and cracks in poured cement.Price quote on additional work was astronomical, ie. we don't want to do the work.
Description of Work: They installed a raised patio as well as walkways, trash can patio, and fixed a broken patio in the front of my house. Great service, timely, reasonable, and great ideas to come up with a great end result.
This project went well from start to finish. There was no truck access to the project site and only limited bobcat access. All demo materials (concrete and wood) had to be removed by wheelbarrow. All construction materials (underlayment sand and gravel, concrete and mortar, paving blocks, wall blocks etc) could be brought 2/3 way in (100') by bobcat and then brought to the final site (50' up hill) by wheelbarrow. Brad Garcia did not consider this any trouble at all. We set a start time and Brad called a few days prior and said his men could start a couple of days early which worked for us. Once on the job his crew appeared on time every day and worked thru the day and in some instances, worked till dusk to complete the project well within the specified time. The demo phase went fast. The concrete patio was built in the 80's and was mostly 5+ inches thick. I was concerned that in preparing the site for the base material some existing shrub and tree roots would be cut, damaging the plants. Brad understood this and assured me that they would take care to do the least possible damage. In the end, no large root systems were cut. I removed the nails and screws from the demo'ed shed and was able to recycle much of the red wood (my neighbor took it to repair his decks). The crew removed and disposed of all the remaining wood and all the broken up concrete. The building phase went without a hitch. We moved to CA three years ago and bought an older home on 1 1/4 acre. There has been much work done over these three years and we have had many crews from different trades working on our home, including other landscapers who paved a front walk for us with the same block material and pattern River Rock used. Brad's crew comprises some of the most capable men we have had working on our home. The guy who laid the patio block was more than meticulous in setting up the floor design and carrying it thru from compacting the base material to setting the block. It came out truly level and square. We could not have asked for a more professional job than he did. I have to say that when I saw the kid (not a day over 23 I'd bet) who was to build the 10' long 6' high block wall I was a little concerned as to whether he had the skill to do a nice job. Wow, was he good. That wall was built to last, all the rebar both vertical and horizontal, was put in place and the wall is level and square, all the joints are clean and even. He put me in my place for thinking only an older tradesman can do such good work. My hat is off to him for sure. This is just the kind of people Brad and his brother have working with them, never a disappointment. All the men who came to work at our home on this project were competent, courteous, friendly and all went out of their way to answer any questions we had and worked with us when we added to the original contract (the 100' crushed road was an add on). An additional note worthy policy of Brad's crew is that every day they completely cleaned up the area before leaving. This included sweeping up the driveway which was used as a holding place for raw materials. Dump truck loads of crushed rock and sand piles were kept contained and the drive way was swept clean around these piles every day. Only one other crew we employed was as mindful of how important daily cleanup is to the sanity of the clients they were working for (our kitchen remodel crew). Everyone at River Rock should be proud of every aspect of this job. (I hope Brad reads this and passes our words on to his crew.)
Description of Work: Removed existing (13X18) wood structure, including wood plank floor. Removed existing (13'X18') concrete patio, removed existing short (15') walkway. Replaced all with paving blocks to create one contiguous patio (with under patio drainage system). Built a block wall 10' long 6'high. Created an approximately 100' long by 5' wide X 4-5" deep back yard "road" with crushed rock.
Description of Work: They replaced and extended our old ugly driveway with beautiful pavers and a walkway beside our garage to the back yard, and the porch entryway. We can now park 4 or 5 cars in our drive with no problem and it is beautiful. It changed the whole look of our home and makes the front area look much larger. They made a curved walkway from the pavers for foot traffic up to our beautiful paved front porch. And I can't tell you how nice it is to have a flat even surface next to our garage to take the trash in and out.

Brad, the salesman, knew his product and made great recommendations for design. Installers were great to work with and cleaned up after themselves daily.
Description of Work: Pavers/stairs around pool, added patio with firepit and various retaining walls
I think I liked that he gave me an estimate before he left. He had brought his little laptop with him and a little printer and he created a 3D view of what it would look like. I just liked that because it could help me imagine what it would look like in the end. My interactions with him was good. He did add a fire pit that I didn't ask about. He just said, "Oh well I added that to the rendering so you could see where it would fit and how it would like." He put 1500 for that. I still liked the idea. It was a better way to upsell, I guess. He was punctual. He did call and say he was going to be 30 minutes late but he gave me plenty of time for that.
Description of Work: River Rock Outscape gave me a quote for removal of stamped concrete, new concrete front porch, paver steps, paver demo and install, joint stabilizing sealer, concrete overlay steps, paver seat wall, fire pit, gas line, wood patio cover and footing.

The wall and the patio are beautiful. Octavio, the owner, was very responsive to any issues I found both during and after the construction. A part of the patio forms a walkway that goes underneath a gate in my fence. When the walk was first built, the gate wouldn't open all the way without scraping on the walk. Octavio came out himself at the first opportunity and spent about 2 hours fixing the walk. The gate now opens perfectly. I'm very pleased with the quality and workmanship of the wall and the patio.

Description of Work: We had pavers layed in our backyard to extend the existing patio. The removal of the old grass and rouble, and the placement of the new pavers went according to plan. One of the issues we had was they did not seal the joint sand between the pavers and no sealer on the pavers themselves. We tried to contact them several times when the joint sand started washing away, but they didn't return our calls or emails. We finally contacted the original sales person(Mark) and he did get someone to come out. What the person did that came out to look at sand did very little to remedy the problem and left with out saying anything.

The owner came to my home to estimate the project the week before last week. I said I will call him once I have decision on which company I will use but I didn't call. So I read the review instead. The reason of level A is that the owner of River Rock sounds very smart and knows what I want in a few minutes. The price is good after a few negotiation. However, we decide to go with another company because they look also very good and they came earlier and spend a lot of time to complete the design and give us a very honest price even without negotiation.
Description of Work: we went with another contractor But river rock looks good as well. Might try next time

I waited a few months to submit this review to see haw the new patio would stand up to winter weather. Now that we have had a couple of storms, here goes. Old concrete patio had been cracked by intruding roots. Got bids on the job to replace and improve the back & side yard, and RRO was the lowest bid, but not low-balled. Don't trust bids that are TOO low. The job was medium size, meaning that they had a lot of work to do, but the area was not large enough to get machinery in to it. That meant everything had to be done by hand, including breakup and haul away of old patio, and bringing new materiel to the site and placing it..The company is run by two brothers who are very knowledgeable and responsive. They created root barriers to prevent recurrence of the original problem. They created an interesting paver pattern with a diamond motif. They graded the area for drainage, and installed numerous drains that tapped into our main drainage pipe. They put up a small retaining wall, and also left certain open spaces as planters for our garden. As the job progressed questions arose, but the brothers were responsive, and accommodated all reasonable changes. The final job looked wonderful! But I wanted to make sure that the drainage system worked, and that nothing shifted after the winter storms. It all held up great, and the drains really do drain properly. They also replaced a short wooden fence that had to be taken down during the job. They do this as a service to complete jobs for their clients. And though the fence was competently built, RRO is not the first place I would go for wood work. That's just not their expertise. I would unhesitatingly recommend River Rock Outscape for any patio, paver or stone wall work. They did a great job, and kept us happy throughout the process.
Description of Work: Removed old concrete patio and replaced with hardscape pavers. Provided basic design. Created a root barrier. Ran water supply to a planter area. Built a short wooden fence. Built a low retaining wall.

They were knowledgeable and asked me a lot of questions which I am not aware of. They did an excellent job...it was not very large but it was very complex. However, they failed to picked up the excess pavers on time. It took them two weeks to pick them up...that was not good.
Description of Work: I used the hardscaping service of River Rock Outscape. They put in pavers on the particular part of my property.

After getting bids from 5 other San Diego region landscaping/hardscaping companies we decided to go with River Rock because of their professionalism and honesty in costs and willingness to work with our designs. We had bought the house in May 2013 and decided we wanted to upgrade the cracked concrete driveway and do up the dirt side and back yards. When the 10 week project began the crew from River Rock brought some of the most careful and professional men we've ever seen. Their attention to details not only in areas that were to remain untouched but also in the planning of all underground installations before the surface work was to be performed made us feel confident the work performed was top quality. Since someone was almost always home during the day, if the workers had any questions they could simply ask us what we wanted to do. Any options in variable costing steps such as choices in colors, material type etc were offered to us in a professional manner and executed quickly. Whether it was visiting the rock yards to hand pick the boulders for our waterfall or visiting examples of paver and fence installations from other jobs they've performed, we are glad we went with River Rock.
Description of Work: 10 Week Project: Demolition of existing concrete driveway/patios and wood retaining walls, install of Belgaurd 3000sqrft pavers (driveway, patios, walkways, steps up hill), Belgaurd 600sqrft retaining walls, irrigation, electrical conduit, drainage, waterfall, pond, soil removal and addition (compost), sod + sprinkler system, redwood perimeter fence + gates

Company rep. came to our home for the first of several free estimates we had scheduled. After estimates were completed, it did not seem that there was a great variation in materials; only attitude toward getting the business. The gentleman seemed knowledgeable enough but there was a certain lack of professionalism that was offsetting. When I called him to advise that we were going to use another company he did nothing to try to change my mind, only asked who we were going to use which I declined to tell.
Description of Work: Only gave estimate.

River Rock Outscape did a terrific job on our backyard. Brad and his team were very professional and worked hard to ensure our project would turn out well. We needed pavers installed on the large side portion of our backyard and they installed the necessary drain infrastructure (connecting existing drains and adding a branch to provide additional insurance). I was impressed with the care they took to ensure the pavers would be sloped correctly in between our house and the fence. The project turned out really well and we felt that Brad was very upfront and honest with us, was flexible in working with us on our special requirements and went the extra mile. We couldn't be happier with how our project turned out and would highly recommend River Rock Outscape.

I found Brad Garcia at the home and garden show in del mar. We wanted to do some landscaping in our backyard but were not very sure whether to put a new lawn or pavers. Brad set up an appointment and came right on time. He spent spent quite some time measuring the backyard and the current patio layout. He showed us different kinds of pavers that would fit our budget. He spent almost 1.5 hours in his car trying to come up with a design that would fit our budget and our unique backyard layout. In the end, he produced a beautiful layout on a graph paper (all this as part of the free estimate). We met quite a few other landscapers and none of them spent so much effort and time...let alone go into the details of the design. Highly recommend these guys. Ulmimately we decided not to put pavers but keep the lawn....but we would definitely consider river rock outscape again in the future when we plan to do paver work.
