RETAIL BUYER BEWARE: I'm usually hesitant to write negative reviews, especially for small businesses, but my experience with Moon Valley Nurseries was truly disheartening. I visited their nursery to explore hedging options for my yard, hoping for expert guidance from their sales team. I was greeted by a young salesperson who seemed knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They recommended plants (Silver Sheen Pittosporum) that they assured me would thrive in my yard. I was presented with two choices: an expensive option with a warranty (over $10,000) or a self-planting option (discounted to $4,500). Opting for the latter, I felt confident in my decision. Unfortunately, my confidence was misplaced. Within a year, a staggering 80% of the plants I purchased had withered away. Despite my attempts to reach out to the salesperson for guidance, they remained unresponsive and unhelpful. It's disappointing to see such a lack of accountability after making a significant investment. What troubles me even more is learning that the salesperson was familiar with the local coastal communities near my home. This suggests that the chosen plants weren't suitable for my environment, a clear case of negligence driven by inexperience and perhaps pressure to make sales. I understand the need for businesses to thrive, and I'm willing to support that. However, it's disheartening when short-term gains overshadow the potential for building a reputable legacy. Moon Valley Nurseries, by not conducting thorough research and selling plants without considering their suitability, has left me with a $5,000 loss and a sense of disappointment. As a customer, I too have financial responsibilities and expectations. It's my hope that businesses like Moon Valley Nurseries prioritize customer satisfaction and long-term relationships over immediate sales. This experience serves as a cautionary tale and a reminder of the importance of ethical business practices.
Description of Work: I wanted a hedge for my front yard.

Based on our experience, the Moon Valley Nursery San Diego have a business model that is to collect large total fees at the time an appointment is made, to do the least amount of work possible and stone-wall on returning until the homeowner gets frustrated and stops calling. DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS NURSERY IS A MAJOR RISK! 1) We came to the Moon Valley Nursery on March 31 with photos and discussed the stump and Ivy removal and clean up in the backyard and the tree removal in the front yard and preparation for new landscaping. The Manager quoted $4500 for the backyard then increased it to $5000 due to the location. 2) We returned on April 8 and the Manager increased the backyard cost to $5500 and the front yard was set at $1500 with full payment required. We were assured that any problems would be resolved immediately. 3) The project was scheduled for April 16 and 17. 4) The Field Manager called and rescheduled the project to April 20. 5) The crew worked from 8:34 to 3:30 and were leaving when I asked about the unfinished work. The crew leader said that the Field Manager would call and he did to indicate that they had a higher priority job. 6) No one of the crew members told me that they broke the concrete curb in front and the fence and waterline in the back or that they left large rocks out of place and very large piles of sawdust in the front and back. 7) I emailed the Manager on April 23 and he called and indicated that the work would be completed on Wednesday, April 25. 8) The Field Manager came by on Wednesday and looked at the back slope but no work was done. 9) I called the Field Manager on Thursday the 24th and he indicated that he was in a meeting and would call back soon. He called after 5:00 PM and said he had been stuck in the meeting but would come Friday between 10:00 and 10:30 AM. He showed up close to noon and then returned later due to having to repair his repair on the irrigation pipe. 10) I emailed the Manager and gave him until the end of May 2, 2018, to finish the cleanup and other repairs and have received no follow-up. We are considering all legal options.
Description of Work: 1) Front yard tree removal, stump grind and preparation for replacement. 2) Back yard 4 large stumps fully ground out and all ivy, shrubs and yuccas to be fully removed in preparation for new plantings.

Great selection of very healthy plants and trees! Knowledgeable staff and great workers! Kirstie Aon found us the perfect tree for our front yard, set up the removal of the old stump and the planting of the new tree. We couldn’t be happier with the tree and the great folks at Moon Valley Nursery!
Description of Work: Needed a new tree for the front yard. Kirstie Aon helped find the best tree. We purchased a 36"box Raywood Ash. Kirstie arranged for the removal of the old tree stump and planting of the new tree.

I would give them an "A" because soon after they planted my big trees in the back on the nasty slope that I had back there, they blew over in a bad storm. I called them and I said "your trees fell over." They came out, put them back up again, staked them in, and they made sure that it was right. I give that an "A". They backed up their work. The price was fair. I got what I paid for. It wasn't a bargain so the price was acceptable. I would use them again. This is a long-term relationship.
Description of Work: I went in and picked out trees and some 15 gallon stuff, stuff like that. Then they came and planted them for me.
