Description of Work: He approached us, my mom's detached home in a seniors' community in Rancho Bernardo, saying he worked for her neighbor. He was very pushy and my mom started paying him b/c she was uncomfortable questioning him and the work to be performed. While she was hospitalized, he called several times to add a tree cutting job that he told her was necessary. He told her it'd be $3,000 and had to be done, so she agreed. At the hospital, she finally told me about the payments she was making to Jose--I had my own gardnener in San Diego and researched tree cutting services and saw how excessive his charges were. I spoke to a lawyer who drafted a letter for me to have Jose sign to stop work, never come on my mom's property again, and to accept less than $1,000 for payment for work that was not asked for. I know that Jose Martinez is a common name, so check on the state's licensing board before hiring him. The man that worked at my mom's house provided a false license number on his business card. He preyed on my mom's fear of making waves, and while she was hospitalized, so if the same man, you should avoid using him at all costs. I know I paid out at least 1200 dollars, I know my mom paid out too but don't know the amount before I found out what was happening. Buyer beware--bottom line is check the license.

+ 1 moreMy tenants were very happy with the work. I have tried several gardeners over the past few years and none has been satisfactory, so it was a pleasure to have Jose come in and actually show up on time and do the work we agreed on. In addition, Jose called me and told me about extra work that needed to be done, which cost extra, but I was happy that he took the initiative to tell me what he saw. I have since hired Jose to do twice-monthly maintenance on the yard and to repair the sprinklers.
Description of Work: The front yard of the house was a a real mess. Jose and his crew came and spent a day cleaning, clearing, and trimming. Everything was hauled away. The price I paid included dump fees and was reasonable compared to quotes I had received from other companies.

+ 0 moreHe and his employees are very reliable, careful, and willing to listen to requests. He knows irrigation system repair, also. His prices are very reasonable compared to others that work in our area. He is happy to do additional work for a fee. Occasionally, his attention to detail can lapse, but on average, he does excellent work.
Description of Work: Care of a medium-sized lawn and garden on a weekly basis.

Description of Work: Didnt show up at time agreed upon to make an estimate for work. Finally called 3 hours later, but still couldnt seem to get the name of the street, and to follow simple directions to get here. He said he had a map, and that he could see our street, but that didnt seem to help.

+ -1 moreJOSE, AND HIS WIFE RUN A SMALL GARDENING COMPANY, AND HE IS A GEM! HIS RATES ARE EXCELLENT, AND HIS WORK IS EVEN BETTER. HE ALWAYS SHOWS UP ON TIME, DOES A BEAUTIFUL JOB ON THE YARD, AND CLEANS UP EVERY BLADE OF GRASS. IT'S SO HARD TO FIND A GOOD GARDENER JUST FOR YOUR REGULAR MAINTENANCE, AND JOSE IS ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS. I'M NOT SURE WHAT AREAS HE WORKS IN. WE'RE IN DEL MAR/CARMEL VALLEY, SO I KNOW HE WILL WORK IN THE COASTAL AREA. HE CAN DO ONE TIME CLEAN UP JOBS TO SPRUCE UP, AND RE-PLANT. VERY GOOD GUY.
