JOHN A DOUGLAS LANDSCAPE SVC

When my husband and I decided to do a backyard makeover, we had no idea what we were doing. We met with 4 different landscaping companies and thank goodness one of those companies was John A Douglas. The choosing of a company to work with was a long drawn out process in it self, taking about a month. 2 companies were recommended by friends, one company sent me an advertisement and Johns company was recommended by another company I had contacted but were no longer here in San Diego. After many meetings, plans and quotes with all 4 companies, we finally went with John. The basic reason we chose John was how genuine he was. He was so calm and he listened to every idea we had. He never pressured us or made us feel like an inconvenience for taking up his time. He built on our ideas and came up with a beautiful plan that totally screamed us! In fact, he was the only one out of the 4 companies that heard everything we said and incorporated it all into the plan. I am so glad we chose John because his genuine, calm nature came in handy with my many phone calls, texts, questions and changes we made throughout the process. It was a long process, as you can see by our pictures it was a complete makeover front and back. John always listened and came up with ideas when I wanted to change things up. His crew was friendly and worked hard creating a magical retreat. We went with artificial turf and even though its a little more expensive than real grass, we couldn't be happier. It is fabulous and we will never put in real grass again. If you saw my pictures you see I have 2 gigantic dogs and they love the turf. It is easy to keep clean and we have never had problems with any doggie odor. I had big dreams and big expectations and John made them all come true. My bar, kitchen and barbecue area is the biggest one I have ever seen. It is beyond my wildest dreams and even has a fire pit in the middle of the bar that I asked for. Such Ambiance. The water feature was added in at the end of our design and I am so glad we put it in. It is now the central focal point of our yard. I cannot say enough good things about John, I feel he was a God send. I would never hire anyone but John to do any landscaping and my family and friends feel the same way. I highly, highly recommend John A Douglas for all your landscaping needs but be careful. He makes your yard such a paradise everyone wants to come over and never leave. We have nothing but good things to say about John Douglas. He and his crew are true professionals. John came in as the lowest of three bids yet gave us a really superior product. Frankly he seemed more knowledgeable than our landscape architect (it was that architect who suggested we get a bid from John). John fixed a lot of problems caused by other contractors, and was great about getting us change orders promptly so we could budget. Also he was careful to note changes in our favor, and made some cost-saving recommendations, too. There was one existing plant in our yard that we wanted to match, and John searched all over southern California to find more specimens – finally finding a nursery all the way up in Santa Barbara. We thought that was really above and beyond. He is often on the job himself, and was willing to meet us at odd hours of the day and night to accommodate our difficult schedules. Definitely A+ work.

John came out himself and was very professional. He actually was the low bidder on our work but we would have paid a little more to use him because he gave us a lot of confidence as we went through the bidding process. We had three bids and John stood head and shoulders above the rest.
