To say we are happy with our recent window installation by Coughlin is an understatement. Not only will the new, double pane windows lower our HVAC bill, but they make the house more attractive. Yes, we recommend them!

Coughlin did an outstanding job of installing my windows. They were always on time, they did what said they would do the first time and most importantly, they communicated clearly with me. These are high quality windows for the money and their prices were better than any competitors I contacted. I'm sure I will be a returning customer for future projects.

We had Coughlin replace all of the windows in our home (34) + 2 sliders, and we found their products and their customer service to be top notch. We researched a number of other window companies and then decided to go with Coughlin. We are very pleased with the look and feel - we can already tell that they are keeping the heat out. The installers were efficient, skilled, and respectful of our home while they were installing the windows over the course of an entire week. Highly recommend this company!

In 2 days, this professional and knowledgeable installation team replaced 2 sliding glass doors, one kitchen garden window, a bay window, and 13 other windows in our home. The team of installers worked hard and knew what to do with the special requirements some of my windows required. Great clean up after the job was completed. We are glad that we supported a local Escondido business that gave us great pricing and great customer service. We definitely recommend Coughlin Windows.

We hired Coughlin for the window replacement in our townhome and from the beginning of our project this company definitely stood out from the other contractors we talked with. Their quote was also way more reasonable than other companies in the area. Jared came out to provide our quote and was very timely, responsive and professional, he also made sure we knew the timeline for installation which was about 12 weeks out from the final measurement. We had a similar experience with Steve, who did the final measurements for our project and scheduled our appointment. Shoutout to the crew who spent all day at our home! Pauley, Gonzalo, Cole and Justin were great to work with and were very understanding of our curious toddler who was wanting to be in on the action. They were professional, showed up right on time, and kept us in the loop on the project as they were working on it. I can't say enough good things about the installation team! We absolutely love our windows and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Coughlin to our friends and neighbors.

Coughlin is 2nd to none. I highly recommend them. From start to finish, by far the best window company we've ever used. Within our neighborhood 4 different types of companies have been used and each time, Coughlin has come through with not only really good pricing but excellent quality windows and installation.

In my experience, they are dishonest, manipulative, and lack accountability. When I tried to advocate for myself, I felt bullied and manipulated. I like doing business with good people- I would definitely not recommend working with Coughlin. After some discussion and estimates over the summer, this job was initiated on September 4, 2020 when I signed the contract. It was finally completed over 19 weeks later on January 19, 2021. On September 4, 2020, Gerald and the sales guy Jared came over for final measurements and to present the contract. In the master bath, Gerald ripped all of the existing trim off a window I was replacing, which also ripped the paint and drywall underneath it. Then he told me he wasn't going to fix it, and threw all of the vinyl in my backyard. After signing the contract that day, he told me I would have 3 crews, one on each floor to do the work in about 8 weeks. Then he started bragging about his company and how great they are. That's when I knew I was probably in trouble. Quality people don't have to brag about themselves; they are secure enough to know the work will speak for itself. My install date was scheduled for Saturday, October 24. The day before I went to my credit union to obtain full payment. Right after getting the check, Diane the CFO calls at the last minute to tell me that none of the large floor-to-ceiling windows have arrived, only a couple of small windows and the 2 patio doors. The total job cost is $12,100 and Diane is asking for payment in full minus $2,000, despite the fact that only half of the job will be completed on Oct 24. We settle on a balance of $4,000, and the crew shows up Saturday Oct 24. They install 2 sliding patio doors, and two small windows on the 3rd floor. Everything is good, except the sliding door on the 3rd floor is not in line with the frame- it bumps into it. I mention this to several people, including Gerald, and get nowhere. On Tuesday, November 3 Diane texts that they will be installing the remainder of the windows on Saturday November 14. I asked for an earlier date since they were supposed to be finished on October 24 and was not given one. I spoke to Gerald on the phone trying to get an earlier install date, and told him about the sliding door that wasn't installed properly. All he did was out-yell me on the phone while I was at work. He turns it around that he is the victim of supply problems and begged me to bear with them, assuring me that Coughlin will do a good job and they will be there for the lifetime of the windows is anything happens. I relented and agreed, with the understanding that they would fix the sliding door at the next installation. On Saturday, November 14 the crew shows up to finish the job. It takes most of the day, and at first glance I was pretty impressed. The lead told me that "each sliding door is different, if that makes any sense," and said that over time it will be OK. He asked for payment of the remaining $4,000 and I gave it to him. They left, and the next day I sent Gerald a text thanking him and the crew for the work. I was relieved that it was over finally, and I had to admit that it looked great. On Monday, Nov 15 I inspected everything more closely. I noticed that 2 of the large picture windows that are less than 2 feet from the newly-installed patio doors are not tempered. I checked the estimate, and they were correctly ordered as tempered. California building code states that any window located less than 2 feet from a door has to be tempered. I emailed Gerald and the people at Coughlin that these 2 windows were supposed to be tempered, and he responded that he was "on it, they were ordered temp but weren't shipped out that way, and we'll let you know when they arrive." That's great, but after I emailed them no one came over to check that they were wrong before reordering the window. Obviously, they all knew (including the installers- they do this every day, they know when a window has to be tempered). The reason they didn't have to stop by to confirm that was because I was simply telling them something they already knew. They told me 3-5 weeks for the glass to come in. While I waited for the replacement glass to come in, I went outside in my yard and looked at the installation of the bottom bedroom window, which is adjacent to a block of cement that serves as a small patio. Somebody had covered up my patio with landscape tarp that covered the surrounding area outside the window. When I moved the tarp back away from the patio, I could see it had a crack in it matching the corner of a large window. I emailed the team with pictures and Diane said that my cement wasn't in pristine condition anyway, and she couldn't say what fixing that would entail. After several emails checking on the replacement glass status, while waiting over 7 weeks for the replacement glass to arrive, I call them and magically the next day it was there. Since they already had full payment, they were in no hurry to finish the job they were obligated to finish. Gerald to me the installer would contact me. A couple days later, I spoke to Steve on the phone about the job and the cement, and he told me he would see what he could do. However, the day of the job Steve texted that the crew would be there only to replace the glass and nothing else. They refused to fix the cement crack. They replaced the glass on their 3rd install date to FINALLY finish, a little over 19 weeks after I signed the papers for this job. Looking back, the worst part of this is that they knew the glass wasn't right, and they went ahead and installed it anyway figuring I wouldn't notice. After the 2nd install date, the lead stood over me asking for payment knowing full well it wasn't right. When I emailed the owner Gerald, he ordered replacement glass WITHOUT STOPPING BY FIRST. Because they already had full payment and they obviously don't care, they took over 7 weeks to replace the glass that they knowingly incorrectly installed. It's been my experience that Coughlin Windows and Doors are dishonest and untrustworthy. The windows are good and the place looks great. However, the road to get there was ridiculously long and not worth the trouble, and lying to me and installing the wrong windows without telling me and demanding full payment for it is UNFORGIVABLE. Had I not noticed it myself, I would still have the wrong windows. If I went to sell and have my condo inspected with the windows they left me with, it wouldn't pass inspection in California. Since I was aware of the law and knew what to look for, I caught it myself. You, the prospective buyer are free to do what you want- I hope you choose wisely. Their truck was in my complex on another job about a week ago, and as I walked by the truck and the crew, I had nothing but a sick feeling in my stomach. Ask yourself- is that the experience you're looking for?

Response from Coughlin Windows & Doors Inc
As a company we pride ourselves on honest communication and exceptional service. Unfortunately, some of the information above is accurate. The project was delayed, due to unforeseen supply and demand issues that stretched the nation in our industry. Additionally, we did (regrettably) miss an error in the glass that was ordered. The replacement was ordered immediately and didn't require inspection to slow things down, we could see from our end with the help of [Member Name Removed] that the error occurred - even though in person on the install this can be missed. We apologized to [Member Name Removed] and completed the job (albeit late). We were pleased to hear from [Member Name Removed] the following message, despite the delays... "Thanks to you and your entire crew and company for a job well done! You exceeded expectations. I really appreciate your efforts. The work has transformed my home!" It's unfortunate that following this message the concern of [Member Name Removed]'s concrete arose. We are confident that our company is not responsible. The window would have broken before the concrete ever could. As a business we recognize we can't make every customer happy, though we certainly come closer than most. Unfortunately in this case, taking responsibility for something outside of our control would have been the only [Member Information Removed] to avoid this review. Nevertheless, we accept the areas where our service fell short and will learn from this experience. Thank you for the portions of your feedback [Member Name Removed] that were honest. We're also grateful for the referrals you've sent our [Member Information Removed], despite your frustrations. We wish you all the best.

This review specifically addresses replacing original, builder-grade, single-pane, aluminum frame windows in a townhome governed by an HOA. (If you live in a detached home with wooden frame or existing vinyl windows, YMMV significantly.) I’m going to tackle the review in two parts – window selection and installer selection (since you already know that I chose Coughlin!-) As is typical for me, I did a lot of research on the types of windows available. Since I face southeast and have an upper balcony overhanging my patio, I wanted to maximize the light entering the unit. I wanted reasonable quality, but also to avoid putting lipstick on a pig (1970’s vintage unit). After browsing countless web sites and checking Consumer Reports, the condo-grade brands that I eventually settled on were Anlin, Simonton and Window World. Milgard’s quality has taken a dive in the past few years, Renewal by Andersen appeared to be a lower grade retrofit-optimized model in their lineup and Pella seemed too premium for my needs. Do not skip this step since the performance and style of the windows need to be matched to your needs and budget – and some installers will only install certain window brands. TLDR; Scroll to the bottom for some key tips on ordering your replacement windows! After scanning Angie’s List, Yelp, checking the CSLB and BBB sites (and talking to friends), I narrowed down my list of installation vendors to Brothers Home Improvement, Coughlin Windows & Doors, DreamStyle Remodeling, BM Windows and Window World. Window World is a major national chain that manufacturers and installs their own windows. Their estimator was professional and provided a highly detailed quote. However, when he learned that the exterior trim had to be “Architectural Bronze” per the HOA, he pivoted from his own product to Simonton since the Window World product only comes in white and beige. DreamStyle only offered to quote Pella and heavily promoted its quality versus other brands. They did it after a quick walkthrough inspection and quoted a price 150% higher (that’s 2.5x people) and 300% longer installation time – verbally, then waited to see if I’d leap at that. BM Windows offered the Anlin product, which is manufactured and sold on the West Coast. It appeared to fall between the Simonton and Pella products in quality with a price closer to the former. If I owned a detached home or luxury condo, I would have selected that product and used them as the installer since they were knowledgeable and professional. Brothers and Coughlin both quoted Simonton Daylight Maxx. Brothers had a slight initial edge since they have licensing to handle structural remodeling rather than just windows. However, their estimator was a bit like a used car guy using hokey gimmicks to show off the product and talking smack about competing firms. They did provide a detailed competitive quote, but didn’t follow up after the visit. Coughlin really ticked all the boxes in terms of professionalism, knowledge, customer focus, etc. Their only real weak point was their insistence on providing a bottom-line quote for the entire job rather than a line-item quote for each window and door. It truly seemed to be as much a software issue as much as company policy though. They followed up after the initial quote and invited me to the showroom to answer my more detailed engineering questions that were beyond the site estimator. When the installation date arrived, they confirmed it in advance, showed up on time, did quality work, finished on time and cleaned up thoroughly. Their crew was a pleasure to work with. FINAL TIPS: --As with any remodeling job, you get out of it what you put into it. I did hours of research to understand the products and the vendors and I spent the entire installation day at home to monitor the process – and those efforts paid off. --Window installers quote the opening direction of your sliders based on the EXTERIOR of the building. Pay attention and you won’t be unpleasantly surprised at the end. --Window firms tout the new low-profile frames that are ONLY 1.5” wide with larger glass areas. That’s true relative to older style frames. However, they mount these inside your existing aluminum frames so you really lose a FULL 1.5” of glass around the window border (rather than 1.5” minus the original frame width). --If you have a low-profile handle on the outside of your slider door, you’re used to it sliding all the way to the edge of the frame when open – leaving a double pane on one side and an open/screen side. Vinyl windows have larger handles and use 4-6” stop in the track to prevent them from hitting the frame. You’ll notice this when the door is fully open and the frame edges no longer overlap – leaving you with both door edges visible in the middle of the opening. --Title 24 requires the use of low-E glass windows in new construction and most remodels. However, for these “frame in” replacements, you can get around that. In my case, I specified clear glass in my patio slider since it’s shaded by the balcony and I wanted maximum light as well as no greenish tint. However, you have to know to ask for this. --California is updating Title 24 in 2020/2021 and future windows will have to be even more energy efficient (think triple-pane!). Installers expect the new technology to raise window replacement costs by 50% so get yours done in 2020 rather than waiting. --Even if you don’t live in a current fire hazard zone (federal, state or local specified), you should still request the tempered glass option. It only adds $10-$15 per window and you’ll have some future-proofing against droughts and expansions of fire hazard zones (not to mention safer breakage in case of more common baseball or rock). --Double-pane windows will make your home significantly quieter. However, if you want a truly quiet bedroom or office, upgrade to laminated glass for that one room. It makes a big difference without having a major impact on the cost of the entire job. --You’ll be expected to remove anything obstructing the space in front of your windows and doors. Most windows will get trimmed in with a vinyl scrim to cover the original aluminum frame. However, slider doors will get a wood casement molding installed. Be aware that it’s primed white and you’ll need to paint it to match your existing baseboards (Likewise, if you want to match the molding design, be prepared to go buy it yourself and have it on hand for them since they just use a plain version.). Window coverings will be removed and remounted, but may not fit exactly the same depending on design. Bottom Line: I love my new windows and slider doors, but I worked hard to get what I wanted and you should expect to do the same!

I had an old slider (non-tempered) that broke. These guys were nice enough to fit me in within two weeks while others said it would be six to eight weeks. In addition the prices were slightly less than the company I had used in the past. When all was said and done they performed as I had hoped and I could not be happier with the service. Excellent job!

I did a lot of research before making my decision on the various window brands and the companies that installed them. I narrowed my search down to three and got bids from them. Of the three representatives, Nate, from Couglin, was the most straightforward in his presentation and demonstrated the most "hands-on" knowledge about their products. No hype, no putting down other companies or product lines, no up-saleing unneeded options, etc. We just had a great conversation about my needs and how best to accomplish them; a breath of fresh air after listening to the reps from the other two companies! Nate even gave me some excellent advice on an option I was considering; his advice saved me over $1,000.00 in costs; his advice was right on!! With all that being said, I believe new windows and doors are only as good as the installation. Steve and Iam were my installation team. These two men did a fantastic job! They installed my windows as if they were putting them in their own homes! The installation was flawless! They were also easy to have in my home and did a great job cleaning up. A big thanks to Gerald (owner), Nate, Steve, Ian and Diane (scheduling, etc.), you were all awesome to work with! As a side note, all three bids came in within two to three hundred of each other, Coughlin was in the middle. I'm so glad I chose them and you will to too! They earned all their great reviews!

Have you tried to get a garden window installed in San Diego County recently? If you have, you know it is not easy. With many companies not wanting to do a small job or others only dealing with flat windows, it can certainly be a challenge. However from the get-go Coughlin Windows was excellent to work with. They had a team that was on time, courteous and professional in all interactions. From the initial visit of Jared and phone conversations with Diane I knew I was working with a home-town type company. Friendly and building a relationship is not very common for businesses today. They took the time and explained the steps that it would take to get the window measured, ordered and installed. Final measurements and ordering was a breeze, they even offer a discount for payment by check. Steve and Robbie came out and installed the garden window. They did a great job even helping remove an old window box that was bad from wood rot. It has been raining since the install and has shown no issues. Thanks we will be using you again and recommending it to everyone we know.

Job went very well, It's obvious this company cares about the job they do. Kudos to Steve and his team for an excellent job. They came on time, cleaned up afterwards and the new windows are beautiful. They took down and put back up all our shades and blinds, no easy task. We highly recommend them. Other companies we spoke with either charged outrageous prices or didn't want to do the full scope of work we needed done. Please call them for an estimate, there's no high pressure, you won't be disappointed.

I highly recommend Coughlin Windows and Doors. They were excellent in every aspect and very reasonably priced. My home has 6 sliding glass doors and many large windows so it was a big project. I received bids from 4 companies and they were next to the lowest in cost, with very good window quality. The sales person was very helpful in recommending windows that best fit my needs. I met the owner and worked with the supervisor of installation as well as several installers. All were professional, knowledgeable, pleasant and efficient Everyone I dealt with was punctual and accommodating. The job was done on time and budget. There were a few things that needed follow-up by their factory warranty person who completed the work as scheduled and gave me his cell phone number to call if I had any additional problems. The windows have a lifetime warranty.
Description of Work: Purchased new windows and doors for my entire home

They are awesome! They did great work. They have the best price. I looked up their manufacturer - they are well reviewed so they are using good products. They were timely, professional, and processed a rebate from the manufacturer that I didn't even know about.
