The year was 1950, on the heels of the second world war Jack Lavine, a young entrepreneur and heating and air conditioning craftsman opened Lavine & Co., a heating company in Oakland California with a dream and a passion for serving his community. Just a few years later, halfway across the country in the small town of Bessemer, Bob Broman opened Blue Flame Heating with the same dream, drive and passion to help his community thrive in the bitter cold of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. While Bob continued as the owner/operator of Blue Flame Heating until his retirement in 2005, Jack partnered with Norm Kay to help grow his business. Lavine & Co. grew, but slower than they wanted, so they brought in some “fresh blood”, Norm’s son Dale to accelerate growth. With Lavine & Co. growing into a leader in the Oakland heating market, Dale quickly realized he needed more help. In 1998 he brought on his niece Jacque Santos. "On 9/29/24, Justin from Noble came out to install a toilet flange riser. He looked at it and told me it would be between $450 and $550. I felt that was a very high price but a toilet is a necessity. It took him 2 hours from start to finish, but over an hour of that time, he was out buying parts at a Home Depot that is only 7 miles away. I was surprised that he didnâ t have parts with him considering this is a very common plumbing problem, plus I told them what I needed over the phone when I made the appointment and specifically said that I was telling them so he could show up with parts. When he said he was done, I looked at the toilet and noticed there were no caps on the bolts that hold it down. I asked if he was going to put some on, he said that most of the time he doesnâ t. He said he would put some on if I wanted, I told him I did. Who prefers the bolts showing on their toilet??? When he was done, he advised that the amount due was $490.00. I asked what their labor rate is, he said $250/hr. It seemed really high so I asked if it was because it was Saturday. He said â No, thatâ s our regular rateâ . So I was charged for two hours of which most of that time was spent on his trip to Home Depot 7 miles away. I paid him. As he processed the transaction on his phone, I asked if I would receive a detailed receipt. He assured me I would receive a detailed receipt in an email as soon as he finished creating it. It is now a day later and I have not received anything. Very disappointing. So in short: 1) So far the toilet is functional. 2) Justin was a pretty nice guy. 3) Price for the job was awfully high. I feel the job should have been 1/2 that amount because he should have had the necessary parts. I feel gouged. 4) The worst part is that I have not received a receipt for my $490.00!!"

I was upset with him the last time I was here. At the last minute, he let me know that he was not coming. He was supposed to be here at 10 and he showed up after 12 and he texted me one time while on my way and texted me again and he goes 20 minutes and I waited for him for 30 minutes and I just need to go because I have an appointment. My wife wanted our TV to be mounted above our fireplace mantle and he did but he mounted and installed the wires incorrectly and I had to do it all over again to correct what he did."
