Description of Work: it was supposed to be fixing a ceiling fan, running toilet and waste disposal. the guy didn't know what he was doing, left the job for the day with open wires exposed and the ceiling fan in pieces. said he'd call back the next day after speaking with the fan company because he didn't know what he was doing but never called back, i had to chase him. the whole thing was a shambles and a disgrace. i was charged for hours of work and nothing was fixed. it was so terrible i had to get another company to finish the job. i will never use this company again. they told me everything was broken and needed replacing...actually it wasn't, they just wanted to charge for the price of new equipment as they make money off it. the guy went into long details to tell me about how electrical circuits work to make me think he knew what he was talking about....none of it pertained to my fan, he had no clue!

Description of Work: I needed some work done on the trim around my cabinets to accommodate new appliances. David was great and performed the work as expected. He was neat, prompt and courteous.

Description of Work: At first contact, they were professional and very responsive to our issues. Being able to see us next day was a huge relief due to our plumbing issues. The service call tech was on-time, polite, and knowledgable, but the price tag for his services was extremely high for the amount of work actually performed. Charging an initial 1st hour fee, compiled with an additional charge thereafter for every 1/2hr, our total cost jumped quickly. The tech didn't have all the parts required to fix our dryer vent, so my father had to go out to buy them. The tech finished a total of 3 other issues in about 45min. Then we waited. And waited. And wainted. My dad had still yet to make it back after 50 or 60 more minutes passed. Luckily the tech had other service calls, bc even w/ the 10%off from AL, our bill was $500+! He charged for the wait time, which ended up costing just as much as the work he performed.. Great company when ur in a pinch, but def not my 1st choice in the future.

Description of Work: We needed help re-sealing leaking windows on the second floor. Handman Frank Scarpelli was exceptional! He accommodated our tight schedule by fitting the estimate late in the day, well beyond normal business hours. He was straight-forward and quoted us an fair price. He knew we were hoping to get the job done as early as possible and squeezed us in early in the day, in direct sun when it was 100 degrees out. In the multiple times we have used his services was helpful and courteous throughout. I would definitely use him again and would recommend him to friends who need handyman services.

Description of Work: Carpentry - Adjusting door of outside studio so that lock fit properly once more; straightening slightly sagging parts of tall wooden fence which required purchase, installation, and painting of new lumber, realigning gate to latch correctly Electrical - Diagnose doorbell failure, suggest replacement with simpler system using batteries, acquire and install new one, diagnose failure of new bell only three months after installation. Recommend, purchase, and replace existing lights under kitchen cabinets. Trace outside wiring installed along edge of patio so that homeowners can reattach lighting at certain points. Work was done efficiently, neatly, and cheerfully; cleanup was complete. Failure of first doorbell seems to be a peculiar sensitivity of the new unit to certain batteries; the workman had never encountered such a situation and is waiting to see whether this bell might have some basic fault that will lead to further failure. If so, he will rebuild more complicated original system using house wiring.

Description of Work: They hung a ceiling fan and replaced 5 lighting fixtures, some on an extremely high ceiling. When I didn't have the proper bulbs, he offered to go and purchase them for me, which I appreciated because I would not have had the ladder to reach the fixtures once he left. He was terrific.

Description of Work: Tim came out and gave us an estimate on replacing screens on our porch. He was terrific and professional...I'm sure he would have done great job...The estimate, however was nuts.....approximately $1200..We ended up going with another company and the total price with material and labor was $450..They did a beautiful job.

Description of Work: After having had great service from Westside Heating & Air Conditioning as recommended by Angies List, I decided to give another vendor a try. Unfortunately, I was never able to experience their particular services as the sales person I spoke with on the telephone seemed to be unwilling to send someone for an estimate. Consequently, I described the work I needed done to her. She quoted a price of $500 which was $200 over what I would have estimated at the high end. As it was, I contacted another vendor (not on Angie's List), who came out right away, gave a good estimate, showed up on time both days to do the work and charged $350 less than quoted by Mr. Handyman. The final math: Mr. Handyman estimated at $350 more than what I paid. The $150 I paid was $150 less than I had estimated. Bottom line: I got a great job for a great price BUT NOT from Mr Handyman.

Description of Work: He replaced some weather stripping on a door. He was a great skilled guy who could not have been nicer.

Description of Work: I had our gutters cleaned. They arrived on time and, because the gutters were not terribly dirty, the two gentlemen finished quickly. Since one pays for two hours they offered to do any other jobs that might be unfinished. They checked a plumbing problem, but reassured me that it was not a problem and explained why I was getting a sewer smell in a seldom used bathroom so I now know how to deal with the odor when it occurs. Also, in the past, I had had a company who cleaned our gutters,while at the same time, completely soiling our windows. Then they wanted me to hire them for an additional fee to clean our windows. These gentlemen were very neat and careful!

Description of Work: They removed a security light near the top of our house and installed a new solar security light.

Description of Work: We did NOT hire this company or any listed. Their name suggest they are Handyman companies. However, they charge over $100/hour with either employees or private contractors. A handyman is knowledge about household fix-it items, with an expected price range of $30 to $75/hour. These companies should not be wasting the time of Angie's List members.

Description of Work: We had grease dripping from our copper range hood and the entire hood was degrease and the vents cleaned and vent housing removed and cleaned outside. Excellent service though I think a little pricey. It took two hours with a charming and intelligent technician.

Description of Work: Part I, follow-up report: Gutter repair. I submitted a dissatisfied report on Angie's List which was forwarded to the co. I hadn't realized they guarantee their work so they contacted me to tell me they'd be happy to return and continue addressing the problem until it was resolved. They did return and complete the work w/o charge. Part II, The solar heating system to my pool was just beginning to slip off the garage roof on the day I spoke to customer service re: the above so we arranged for them to fix this for me as well while they were here. Everything went well, there hadn't been any damage to the equipment from the slippage so they were finished w/the job very quickly. They gave me the option to either stop there and they'd have done that job as a courtesy because of the errors w/the first job or to fix anything else around the house that hadn't gotten done when I'd called the first time because the guy hadn't shown up the 1st day. I asked them to stay another hour in which they fixed 2 things for me. I showed 1 guy a leak that a plumber had told me could not be fixed and he did fix it for me which saved me all the time and work of having to look for matching replacement parts. We agreed they'd charge me for the 2 hours they were here and, as a courtesy, for only 1 repairman (although 2 were here and necessary). For their own bookkeeping reasons, they wrote the bill as a 4 hour job minus 2 hours. I thought it was a very fair, professional resolution and I liked how competently they did the plumbing repair and resolved the solar paneling problem so it would not recur. The experience had a surprise happy ending.

Description of Work: Called and requested work be done. Was told someone would call. No one called. The company advertises in the LA Times. Companies that make promises and do not keep them are suspect.

Description of Work: My back fence blew over the Friday before Christmas. Mr. Handyman was the only company that would come out and help me. Not only was the fence pushed back into place and braced, but it was done quickly and efficiently by their excellent technician. I thought they charged very little for the work, especially considering it was the beginning of Christmas weekend!

Description of Work: Replace wood boards on exterior walkway (side of walkway). Adjusted kitchen cabinet doors, cut metal plate to cover opening in floor, fixed refrigerator toggle, cut hole in wood board and fixed cover on ice maker.
