We are so happy we hired Colonial Roofing for our job. Carl Slater was wonderful to work with. He presented us with many options for our project and was extremely easy to work with. The crews that worked on our job were professional and punctual. They kept the job site extremely clean and worked diligently to get the job done in a timely manner. The roof was completed in the exact time as promised and for the price presented on the estimate. We love the look of the new roof and highly recommend this company.

I called twice, once on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 9:55 A.M. and again on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 4:15 P.M. I left voicemail messages on both occasions with my name, contact information, noting my referral from Angie's List. I received no reply to either call. Angie's List should consider removing this business from its website.

Perhaps the most trusted way to demonstrate one’s belief in a service provider is repeat business. One year later after Colonial Roofing replaced a major section of our house’s roof, we once again hired the company to completely replace a similar size area of our roof. And the results for the second go round are exactly the same as before - Colonial Roofing completed our project on time, on budget, and with the highest level of craftsmanship. I start by mentioning that Colonial Roofing honored the original estimate for this second job, even though that estimate was given one year ago. Obviously, Carl Slater (the main guy at Colonial Roofing) could have cited numerous rising expenses if he chose to change the original estimate for the job, but he did not. Work on our roof began on the initial scheduled date. And the scheduled end date for the project was met without a hitch. It was like Carl and his crew were a roman legion working for Julius Caesar - they came, they saw, they roofed. The crew working for Carl were polite and professional. All were experienced craftsmen doing their job without being a nuisance to us or the neighbors. And this is not faint praise. The roof they were completely replacing was right above my home office. I was able to continue with my normal work routine during the entire project without missing a beat. But of course, the main reason I went with Colonial roofing was because of their stellar craftsmanship. One year later, the first roof replacement shows no signs of any leaks or any problems with the work. The effort on this second roof replacement has all the ear marks indicating the same level of craftsmanship. The bonus when dealing with perfectionists is when Carl and his crew decide to rip up and replace a part of the roof (at no extra cost) just because they wanted to make sure it would not lead to any future problems. I close with a story about a meeting that took place six months ago. My wife and I were talking to a solar power company about installing solar panels at our house. Part of the agreement with the solar company was their right of approval on whatever roofing company we chose for any future repairs. When we showed the Solar company representative the business card for Colonial Roofing, the solar guy immediately said, “I know this guy and his crew, they’re great. We can sign off on them right now.” I love Colonial Roofing. Two times we’ve gone to them for major roofing projects. Our outlay for the two projects has totaled over 20k. And there’s no way we could have spent the money any better than trusting Carl and his crew.

they did everything they said in a timely way. the crew was polite and very helpful. when they left for the day every thing was cleaned. we're very happy the way the job was done. Mr Carl Slater was a pleasure to do business with. our house is 3400 feet with many pitches and valleys.

Carl Slater is an outstanding contractor, and I can't recommend him highly enough. He was incredibly thorough and expertly explained exactly what needed to be done on my roof, which needed major repairs as part of solar panel prep. His team performed the highest quality work over a couple of days, and I really appreciated that they would regularly show me what they were doing, as they were clearly proud of their work. Carl's estimate was right on the money and great value for the cost. Everything happened exactly as promised, and even the unexpected replacement of a long-damaged skylight, which had to be ordered, was delivered and installed on schedule and as promised. Carl is a very friendly, very knowledgable and runs a great organization. I would hire again without hesitation.

Carl had been highly recommended to me by a friend who lives on the west side, and was one of five roofers who came to the house to give me an estimate. Carl was not only thorough in his assessment of my leaky roof, but even spent time walking down the block with me to point out and discuss various options in roofing materials and styles. (I went with the Timberline Reflector Series shingles). Carl's bid was emailed within the week and he followed it up with a call to see if I had any questions. As a couple of the previous bids I had gotten were lower, he was more than willing to do a line by line comparison with me, and to explain what each item meant and what services would be provided. I additionally went over all the bids with my cousin, who is a contractor and had recommended another roofer to me (who also gave me a bid on the job). We concluded that Carl understood exactly what needed to be done and was offering the best possible solutions for my problematic roof; not at the lowest price, but not the highest either. As it turned out, his crew had to tear off three existing roofs instead of the two we were expecting, which raised the price slightly, but Carl was upfront every step of the way about the price and what needed to happen, and they still finished the job within the 2 week time frame he had originally promised. No matter how you slice it, tearing off roofs down to the studs and installing all new plywood and shingles is a dirty, noisy, invasive job, but Carl's team worked efficiently, were very careful around the plants & shrubbery, and left the job site neat and clean each day. They also went the extra mile around the chimney and dormer windows, installing metal sheeting under the wood siding to ensure extra protection, and replacing and/or repairing any damaged boards. Carl was on the roof every day checking the work, and was always available by phone if I had any questions. He even stopped by one weekend in the middle of the job when it was starting to mist to make sure everything was properly covered, and had a couple guys from his crew come by as well. I can't recommend Carl and his team highly enough; they did an excellent job, were friendly and professional, and my roof is not only beautiful, but within days of being completed it withstood a torrential downpour without one issue. I couldn't be happier!

First of all the quality of work was excellent. Carl Slater, the owner, was wonderful to work with and very clear on what and how things were being done. I recommend this company whole heartedly, you will get a professional job done and very nice people to work with.

We have had problems with our roof for over 10 years. During this time, we had three different roofers come in and try to fix it. No one was able to fix the problem. Carl Slater at Colonial Roofing was recommended to us by a contractor we trust. Long story short - Carl came through with flying colors. He redid our roof and finally... finally we have no problems. Carl Slater is a total pro in every way. With his knowledge, experience and his performance. He gave us an estimate and stayed to the dollar with what he quoted us in writing. His crew performed their duties in a totally professional way. The work was done on schedule without any problems. Highest recommendation for Carl Slater, Colonial Roofing, for anyone who wants a professional working on their roof. Perhaps the best praise I can close with is that there is another part of our roof that needs to be addressed at a later date, and you can bet we will be using again.

Not only does the roof look great, Carl and his crew were amazing to work with. They arrived early, but were quite and respectful of us and our neighbors and didn’t begin work till 7. They were polite, cleaned up after themselves and finished the job efficiently. I would highly recommend Colonial Roofing.

Colonial Roofing was professional and timely. I wasn’t sure of tile choices and Carl was very patient as we tried to determine the final color. He also gave great aesthetic advice for finishing. They are knowledgeable and there were no surprises in terms of price up charges. He wasn’t the cheapest but he also wasn’t the most expensive. Bottom line, I was very happy with the work and would hire again.

My overall experience with Colonial Roofing was absolutely outstanding! From the initial contact and meeting to the day the re roof started and was finished, everything went exactly as planned and was told it would. We delayed our start for for more than 6 months of headaches with the City of Malibu and Carl at Colonial was awesome and understanding. The roof is one of many reworks on our house and without question our favorite upgrade. The look, install and quality were honestly amazing! I have replaced many roofs in my life and have never had as easy and confident dealings with a roofing contractor as we had with Colonial. I am happy to post and write an honest and genuine review!

The job went very well. We received a number of quotes, many of which were lower. However, carefully comparing the quotes revealed that the quotes were "apples and oranges", and that you get what you pay for. Carl's quote included an extensive manufacturers warranty and upgraded materials. The work was done in a timely and completely professional manner. Any inconveniences, such as when the a/c units had to be turned off, were coordinated minimize the impact upon the employees. The entire job went smoothly from start to finish. I would highly recommend Colonial Roofing.

Colonial (Carl Slater) was excellent from start to finish. Very communicative and detailed with his inspection and estimate. Colonial was not the cheapest bid, but by far the most impressive in terms of knowledge and detail. My job wasn't an easy one - one of the three roofs replaced was truly at the end of its life and also had solar panels covering one half. Carl and his team were punctual and thorough, and completed the job on-budget, with the only overages due to dry rot damage (which he documented with pictures and discussed with me before proceeding with repairs that added to the cost of the project). Carl also took me up onto the roof to explain what was being done and why, which I found helpful. I will both use and recommend Colonial for any future roofing needs.

The owner, Carl Slater, returned my initial phone inquiry promptly and subsequently came to inspect and bid the job. He showed up precisely at the date and time he said he would. Because of El Niño madness promoted by the media, this is probably the hardest time in the history of California to get a roofing contractor to respond. I had tried several, and Colonial Roofing was the notable exception. Like all roofing contractors he is busy. He said he could do the job within two weeks. To my astonishment, he followed through and scheduled the two-day job for the Tuesday and Wednesday between Christmas and New Year's. Astonishing! I wonder if the professional roofing contractors association will punish him for that breech of standard contractor conduct. His work crew of three showed up as scheduled and executed the job professionally and smoothly. They were prompt,courteous, hard working, efficient, and went the extra mile in finishing the job. We have a large cast concrete gargoyle head that was mounted on the corner of the garage roof facing the back yard when we built the house 20 years ago. It was sort of our "house guardian." It had to be removed to replace the roof and we assumed it could not be reinstalled as it is old and a bit fragile now. The work crew just decided on their own to put it back on place, which they did expertly, at no additional charge to us. That is some awesome customer service. The job was finished on budget and on time, with no hiccups of any kind. The job site was left completely cleaned up when the work was concluded. I have worked with dozens of contractors in my professional work and with numerous others at my home. Colonial roofing stands out among them all. I could not recommend them more highly. They are outstanding.

It went fine. I was worried about my flagstone in the front yard getting damaged, he was very cooperative and put down plywood to protect it. He listened to my concerns with my roof and put plenty of venting in. His was not the cheapest bid, but you get what you pay for and I'm very happy with the results and would use him again.

Carl came to our first appointment on time (and I took this as a good sign, as it is so important to me). He was nice, professional and after inspecting my roof, he got to the point about the condition of my roof. This was a great relief to me as my intention was to hire a person to do my roof only, and nothing else. After listening to what I was looking for, Carl's focus became about that, to help me get what I was looking for. He didn't take me on a confusing psychological ride equipped with other stuff I didn't need. WIthin a day I got Carl's quote, and as a carpenter's daughter who is familiar with construction and the costs, I was impressed with the price. I hired Carl on the same day. On the first work day, Carl showed up with his crew early (8:00am). They were all ready to go and as soon as the container arrived they got to work. On the second day, Carl discovered that my skylights were cracked. This I was suspicious of as well, but I didn't think that they were a real problem until he showed me the photos of them that he took while on the roof. To my relief Carl told me that he could replace them for me as well, and gave me a good price for that job. He also fixed a few loose none-structual beams that were hanging on the side of my house. Over all the whole job, including the few minor surprises that needed fixing, took 7 days and $19,228 in total. I was very happy with everything. Because of my good experience, as a real estate agent, I intend to keep Colonial Roofing in my technological roledex for recommendation to anyone (friends, clients) that need roofing services in the San Fernando Valley. Excellent in all respects. Carl runs a very professional operation. The work was high-quality, and was done on time and on budget; schedules were met and his employees are courteous and leave the place clean. I am very pleased with the roof. The price was significantly higher than what many similar projects would cost. Partly that's because I used an expensive type of roof shingle, and partly it's because, judging from other bids I got, Carl charges more than other roofing contractors. But I wanted the job done right and he came highly recommended, so I was willing to pay extra, and I don't regret the decision.

I would absolutely recommend Carl and Colonial Roofing. The best thing I can say is that he is a nice, honest, reliable, guy who did exactly what he said he was going to do. I would not hesitate to refer him to anyone.

It went great. The job turned out to be more complicated and take longer than anticipated but the contractor stuck with the original estimated price and did a great job. Every detail was handled professionally and the crew was courteous and meticulous. I have since recommended Colonial Roofing to a friend who was satisfied with the work done for her. Carl, the owner, is a great person to do business with. I had a number of bids on the job but am very very glad I chose Carl and Colonial Roofing.

Carl came to do the estimate. He was extremely pleasant and engaging. He related as if he were considering a date. He then sent his bid. It was outrageously high, $10,000 more than the highest bid, $20,000 more than the lowest bid. He called to follow up and when I said it was a "bit high", he wanted to know what the other bids were. I told him. He said he would check his numbers. He called me back several days later and said that he was off by "one decimal". He lowered the bid by $10,000 dollars, not one decimal of $48,000 he initially quoted me. When I did not accept his offer, he called and called for several months. The last time he called he apparently forgot that he had reduced the initial bid. No other roofer called me and persisted as he did. Perhaps his fishing and persisting pay off big for him, he's got a job up the street now.
