Kent's estimate was reasonable and in line with another estimate I had received. I chose Kent because he was more knowledgable about the repairs I needed, and he didn't try to talk me into unnecessary changes outside of my budget. Kent and his crew were professional and punctual. They completed all the work in six days, making sure to leave the work area clean each day. I am so pleased with my new backyard, and I highly recommend C & H Gardens!

Kent is amazing - he came to visit us several times prior to signing the contract, answered all of our questions, reworked various aspects to fit into our budget and 'held our hands' through the entire project. He has a gentle and positive spirit which made the stress of such a large project manageable! He gave me every little detail I asked for (colorful plants, privacy foliage, drought tolerant landscape, and serenity). His team is friendly and efficient. We have gotten so many compliments on our yard - it really is a place of peace and serenity and I love to be back there!

The job was beautifully done with much attention to detail. Kent's crew was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and meticulous. They performed a full clean-up upon completion. Kent ensured we were fully satisfied upon completion and provided recommendations for ongoing maintenance. Also, Kent provided guidance and recommendations for additional work we may wish to have done moving forward. Overall, an excellent experience.

We could not be more pleased with the work of C & H. Keith Horner is, in fact, a landscape artist with broad knowledge and expansive vision (and a wicked sense of humor!). He listened to our thoughts and incorporated them into a design that transformed our spaces with new and relocated plants and hardscape into an integrated whole of low-maintenance landscaping. His positive attitude, attention to detail and commitment to service made our 8-day project a great experience. Kent's team always showed up on time, worked hard and cheerfully, hauled plant debris and cleaned up each day until the project was completed. They made constructive recommendations on additional (no-cost) enhancements to our project and executed them to perfection. Kent's daily review of the project ensured that we were always pleased with progress and results. We received excellent value from Kent and C & H...and highly recommend his services to those interested in quality results.

Incredible! Kent came by and we walked the yard discussing what trees/bushes I wanted him to work with. He talked different ideas, had picts. of these ideas that he had executed in other jobs. Provided me with a rough sketch and firmed the deal with a handshake. He described how the work would go and 7 working days later, I had a new incredible yard!! Lots of compliments from the neighbors and passers-by. All drip & drought tolerant materials. This is 2 weeks post completion review & the plants are coming in and looking great!! Thanks Kent!!

Colten and his team were amazing. Colten came before hand to assess the job and give me an estimate. Timely, professional and so personable. We were able to schedule in 2 days. A team of 4 came and did a fantastic job with all three tasks. They were efficient, thorough, and neat. Everything was cleaned up perfectly once they had finished. They even left me some extra products to use in other areas in the yard. HIGHLY recommend.

Thanks to Kent, Carlos and the rest of the team for the great work on converting our front yard to drought tolerant landscaping, expanding/hardscaping our side yard and hardscaping our backyard. From start to finish, C&H exceeded our expectations across the full spectrum of the project: design, pricing, demo, grading, tree trimming, irrigation, fence construction, paver wall construction, drainage, concrete install, plantings, lighting, fit & finish and clean up. C&H has the people, equipment and subs to get the job done right, on time and on budget with few surprises or headaches. They also went above and beyond the scope of the project to make things shine and impressively took the long view that not nickel & diming the customer would ultimately yield the highest ROI (and customer satisfaction). Kent and/or Carlos were on site everyday and proactively asked for our input/approvals while keeping the project on schedule. They also showed great respect during the demo process by saving and relocating existing plants - a great touch. We highly recommend C&H.

The job went very smoothly and quickly. The crew was on time and worked hard. They went above and beyond the job by fixing our fence that the large tree had pushed out of alignment. The crew repaired it while removing the tree stump. Kolton was very quick to respond to my request for a bid and was able to complete the job immediately for us. The crew were very polite and professional. We will use them again in the future.

Kent is responsive and tries to help. my issue was his pricing. I told him my budget to fix the landscape lights was only $500. He said he will replace 40 lights to give ambiance to the backyard and front yard. After his team finished the job he said it was $550. I didn't argue and paid (One light is on constantly now 24 hours). But what's really causing me to write this review is not $50 extra. I was very disappointed about his charge a couple of months before for a sprinkler system tune up and he charged me $1,200. I just recently learned that what he did should have cost me a couple of hundred dollars or less. I am very disturbed by that. I truly trusted him. I was going to use him for my rancho santa fe project but I don't know if i can trust his pricing.

Kent responded to my call right away and visited our house free of charge the next day. We told him what we had in mind- removal of so-called lawn, now mostly bare and weeds, and installation of paths and drought tolerant plantings. It is a large yard and we did not have the imagination or strength to tackle this project on our own. Kent sketched his ideas for us which included creating mounds to make our flat yard more interesting. He gave us a cost estimation right away. They began work just a few days later. We were glad that he had his own crew so that there were no delays between parts of the project. The mounds created were around existing trees. They installed large boulders and agave(?) plants near the boulders and smaller low water need plants. 100s of plantings total including sago palms. The D.G. paths were winding around very artistically. The new drip irrigation should save water while delivering more moisture to the right places. We got more than we expected and though it was expensive, it was more than worth it. After the job was done, his workers returned to fix a couple of small glitches. We appreciated that he followed up so quickly after the job was paid for. The front yard suffered from the bobcat tracks but that was unavoidable and the lawn there was not in good shape anyway. We are happy to have a yard that is attractive and low maintenance.

I called regarding a leaking sprinkler that was behind a giant Bird of Paradise, with water running out the back yard fence. Kent called back within 10 minutes and sent someone out to provide an estimate the same day. The initial estimate was $300! This was to dig into the ground, locate the leak/cracked pipe and cap it. I was stunned at the price and the estimator, Kolten (Ken's son) then quoted $200. Their crew of two came the next day and quickly located the leaky pipe, capped it and put everything back together. They did not do any kind of systems check, just fixed the leaky pipe and assumed all was well. I'm hoping this was the only issue, TBD. Pros: Quick response time Completely repaired the broken pipe Cons: Way over priced. I paid $200 for less than 20 minutes of work and $2 in parts and materials. My primary care physician doesn't make this kind of money!

Kent is exactly what you want in a landscaper; the balance of an artist and a scientist. Someone who has a vision, creates an aesthetically pleasing plan, and has the technical know-how to engineer grading for proper drainage, install/sink a commercial basketball hoop to the manufacturer's specifications, set up drainage and plants to thrive on a steep hill where plants have never survived before, and surround the whole thing with palms to make it feel like an oasis rather than a playground. Kent was able to provide an estimate on the spot which was mid/high among the bids, but all-inclusive where the other bids were not. His proposal was turnkey and not like a parts manifest. Kent estimated 3-4 weeks and completed everything in 2 1/2. Kent's drive and sense of urgency ensured workers were on the job before 8am every day and they were all very polite and friendly. And in the end, after the job was complete, we shared a celebratory beer as well as some music that Kent composed and played himself on the piano. A true artisan.

C & H did a wonderful job of putting in a new patio in our backyard, new stucco retaining walls, front steps and sidewalk in our front yard. Beautiful landscape plants with a water saving drip system. The new hardscape and plants enhanced the style of our home. C & H also arranged to have a wrought iron fence installed in our backyard and automatic gate for our driveway that really finished off everything beautifully. Kent and his team were extremely efficient, getting the job done in about 2 weeks. He responded to all my phone calls if I had any questions. We highly recommend C & H.

Performed the work in a timely manner and had a nice layout and plan but many of the plants were not suitable for the location and died. Was told they would thrive and grow larger but many did not even though they were looked after well by gardener and watered well. Ended up having to replace many myself.

Work went well and as scheduled. Customer service was good, though I marked down for professionalism because sometimes I felt the owner, Ken, wasn't listening to me. In the end a couple things I requested did not get done, but the yard does look very good. One of the things we had miscommunicated on he did send his team back out to correct. In some cases this miscommunication turned out better than planned. For instance, we hadn't discussed the extension of the drip system to the other side of the driveway so that was a nice surprise. I gave a C for price because, excluding the price for the concrete work which was not included in the other quotes I received, the C&H bid was 40% higher than the quotes I'd received elsewhere. After much thought, I went with C&H because Ken seemed to have a vision for the concrete work that the other contractors had not. (This was an upsell that worked out well for both of us. Although I wasn't happy with the deteriorating ramp, I hadn't thought of including it in the project until he brought it up.) I was very happy with the finished product of both the yard and the concrete work. I'm confident that the result was better than what I was offered by the others; 40% better I can't say, but definitely a job well done, so overall I rate this experience an A.

I called several landscapers and asked what I should do to improve the look of my yard. Everyone who visited suggested replacing all of the sod with low water plants. It was too cost prohibitive for me however Kent's bid was less than anyone else' s. My wife and I decided we wanted to keep some grass in the yard. Kent had called a few days later to follow up. He was very courteous and professional. He complemented me on my family and said he would like to work with us. We decided of all the people who came out that we like Kent the best. I had him back and told him I only wanted to spend 5 grand, what can you do. Kent came up with a plan and did a wonderful job. We told him kind of what we wanted but left the artistic part up to him. His workers were there every day for about a week. Kent came by to check on progress every day and the guys always cleaned up very well every day which was very nice. All the neighbors love our yard, I am very happy. I have had many bad experiences in the past with contractors. This is experience was stress free and I would hire him again.

We were not pleased. The plans didn't make sense of what we wanted. He tried to sell us everything. We had to push for our plan. His would have cost $16,000. We had another company to do landscaping.

Kent and his crew were very efficient and were finished in about at week. I have lived at my house for 25 years, and never had landscaping. I wanted succulents, and Kent came up with a design and wrote everything up in a contract, which detailed the types of plants he would use. I liked the plants and was able to add the tree to the contract. He showed me several photos of landscapes he had done, and all were beautiful. I got the impression that he might not be the one to go to for detailed drawings but Kent is very easy-going and easy to work with. I was able to communicate via phone, email and text message, and he replied in a very short amount of time, and answered my questions. The price was a little expensive for me, but I feel it was fair for the results I got. I am very happy with my new landscaping.

Kent and his crew were prompt, professional and delivered the project on-time and on-budget. The results exceeded our expectations. He's foremost an artist and chose the perfect hardscape materials to accent the colors of our home, and the grading of the yard and placement of plants was impeccable. We've had several neighbors comment that it doesn't look like the same house. Kent promised us the perfect San Elijo front yard and he delivered. Using only drought tolerant plants he made the yard look lush and inviting. Highly recommend.

Kent came and gave me an estimate right away. I asked him if he would honor the Angie's List coupon and he said Yes. That was nice because I didn't see it online at first. Two to three workers came and started promptly on the date agreed upon. They worked all day digging that tree out. The job took around three days in total. One of the workers stepped on a pvc pipe and broke it and Kent offered to glue it back together. The job was done well. The tree and it's roots were gone, pavers put back in place and the pipes put underground. The only thing that was a bit odd was when Kent opened my front door without knocking to let me know he was going to Home Depot. Most workers knock first. The other item was when Kent glued the pipe, he spilled almost a whole can of blue glue into my decorative rocks and didn't offer to replace them. Also, the glue did not work and I had someone repair the whole section. I told Kent that I bought new rocks and had the pipe replaced, he did not offer to take it out of the price. Although his workers do a VERY good job, there is some fine tuning that could go on as far as customer service. I would recommend this company based on the good work his guys do!
