Description of Work: The roof on our newly purchased home was at the end of its life. Fidelity completed the demolition of FOUR existing roofs on the home in difficult conditions: it is not possible to get a dump truck near the three-story house, so they removed 15-20 tons of debris by hand in bags, ferrying it out to a dump truck with a small pick-up. Cleanup of this extraordinarily messy process was impeccable. I feared the worst, but I have probably only found about 15 small pieces of debris around the property since they completed their work. After the demo, they coordinated with an energy conservation company that we hired to blow in insulation. There was a breakdown of communications between the energy people and Fidelity, but Fidelity picked up the slack and did what was necessary to keep the project on track. Fidelity then installed a DuroLast PVC roof on the flat section of our roof, metal coping over the parapet walls, reseated all tile accent areas that they had to remove, and repaired several areas where there was broken or badly attached tile. We received four bids for this job, and Fidelity was the only one to propose PVC, which seems to us (after extensive research and some amount of hand-wringing) to be an excellent solution. It is a "cool roof" (always remaining at air temperature) and is not torched on, mitigating the fire hazard of applying modified bitumen or other traditional roofing materials. It goes on very quickly and cleanly. And, most importantly, it lasts longer than the traditional materials. Only Fidelity suggested this interesting, very modern alternative, and their residential project manager, Doug Kellor, was great at explaining the risks and benefits of the various materials. | |Fidelity's cost is roughly comparable that of other companies. Theirs was the highest of the four bids we received, but two of the bids were not comparable (they were proposing a much more limited scope of work, with many worrisome shortcuts), and the third one, more comparable in scope but using traditional materials, was within $200 of Fidelity's bid. | |The most oustanding thing about Fidelity, though, is their extraordinary communication. The project manager sent me daily updates, with photos (because access to our roof is not easy), and explained every step of the process. The workers were pleasant and considerate, but perhaps more importantly they were well protected for their work. This is a really professional roofing company whose services far exceeded my high expectations. Fantastic.
