AMBER FLOORING

Amber Flooring was recommended by our general contractor, who said they might not be the cheapest, but they'd do the job right - he trusted them. No issues on that score. We dealt with several people there over the months it took us to decide on exactly what we wanted. They were consistently helpful (read "patient") as we struggled with balancing aesthetics vs. cost. When it came time to install, they did the job efficiently and extremely well. No complaints.

I'm not entirely comfortable giving Amber Flooring an overall grade of "F" but assigning a grade is required in order to complete a review. Under the circumstances, I'm not sure what grade is fair. I contacted Amber for an estimate after reading positive reviews. I received a prompt appointment. As promised, the company representative followed-up with an email that included an estimate for the work. I responded to him (by email) asking several questions about the scope of the work and possible variations. I've never received a reply or other communication from anyone at Amber. I assume they're not interested in doing the work.

They did a good job, they have high quality and upscale hardwood flooring. They missed our order and we got the wrong tile. It was a time crunch. I was not too happy but they did a good job and part of it was my fault. The price was reasonable. They are professional and know what they are doing. They have skilled workers. They were doing a complicated but yet simple finishing process. I did not have time to go somebody else. I went with a simple coat.

I had a mixed experience with Amber. Their crews, both restoration and coating crews, can do excellent quality work--and for the most part, they did. However, there were many communication failures between our estimator and the workers that resulted in mistakes, delays, and the need for multiple repairs. This resulted in the job going on much longer (like a month longer) than originally planned. For instance: the restoration crew didn't understand the stain instructions for the room they repaired/restored, and gave us the wrong finish. Then they corrected this with a coat of tinted urethane finish, instead of sanding down and starting over. The result is not quite what I hoped for, although it's fine. When they came back for the recoating of the other floors, we discovered they had not yet performed a wax test (the estimator was supposed to remind them to do the wax test during the previous 2 visits) to make sure no wax soaps had been used on the floor previously. So they had to do a wax test which delayed us another day. Then they buffed through the tinted urethane coat too hard (which probably wouldn't have happened if we had the wood properly stained in the first place, with 2 layers of clear finish on top), resulting in light streaks appearing after the final coat of finish was applied. So they had to come back and correct that … another 2 days. They never manufactured/delivered a new threshold piece that was part of the original order, so that got fabricated and installed a good month after the original job was started. To their credit, they came back to fix every single mistake, they were patient and responsive with my demands to fix things, and the end results are good. But every fix can take 2-3 days depending how many coats of finish are required… and you can't walk in those areas …. and it's super-frustrating to have to wait for their calls and run over to the property to let them in repeatedly over the course of a month, when the job done right would have taken 4 days. And instead of a single perfect coat of finish, we have a slightly patchwork job … not that you can tell. So, ultimately, our floors look very good and the people who work for them are very nice. But it was a hassle.

I bought a new old house (60+ years old) and needed to repair the flooring before moving in. I contacted Amber Flooring based on the recommendation of an old landlord of mine whom I trust. When they came to do the estimate, their knowledge and expertise was evident. They patiently and clearly explained what options were available to me and the costs. I always consider a good sign that they did not pressure me and attempt to 'upsell' any services. I had the advantage of doing this work on a vacant house. They came when scheduled. The workers were hard-working and polite. The work was completed as scheduled. The end product was wonderful. I am very satisfied. Money well spent!

They were good. They did a nice job. When I had some problem, I told them to come back and they did. Everything was perfect. Their price was pretty good but it could have been little better. I would use them in the future.

The carpet that I supplied was sufficient, but barely, to do the job. They pieced it well to fit the space and match the threshold at the existing carpeted area. They honored their appointment times and installation time/$ estimates.

The staff was courteous and professional in their dealings with us. They carried a limited variety of flooring compared to other dealers we visited, but Amber did offer the brand that we were shopping for. We talked to two different salespersons at different times. Just as we found it educational to visit multiple dealers to gain information from differeent points of view, both salespeople had a slightly different perspective on the product. Becasue of this combined input, we found that we were able to make a more informed decision when it came to actually purchasing the flooring. The staff was not pushy, and when it came to price, their price for the flooring material (as well as the adhesive) came out lower than some competing firms.

They were great. Efficient, quick and responsive. The floors look beautiful. After the job was completely done we discovered that under different lighting we could find a few nails that were not finished (not set completely and not completely covered with the "wash" they use to fill the sanded floor). I called them and they fixed every small nail head the next day. The only problem we had was in reaching them through their voice mail, but as soon as we told them this they gave us the name of an advisor who stayed in touch with us as the work progressed. They were totally on top of the job, great folks.

It didn't.

The sales and service department was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the array of products. They would immediately return my phone calls. The entire installation process took 5 1/2 days. The installers worked from 8:30 to 4:30 everyday. The installation and timeliness of completion was great. However, after a few days upon completion I noticed some nail holes not filled and a few other minor issues. I contacted the manager and he had the installers correct the problems at hand. Upon completion of the job, I would have appreciated them doing a walk through to assure all was done correctly and my satisfaction met. I received 5 quotes for the product and installation. Amber Flooring was in the middle bids range.
