Description of Work: There were on time and very helpful in describing the issue with my spa. They were delayed in getting to the repair (a second trip, after parts etc. arrived) but to be fair, Thanksgiving and bad weather were at least partly to blame. I was not under time pressure, but if I had been I would have been upset. Work was good, I'd use them again.

Gary is great - knowledgeable, professional, punctual, and pleasant. His staff were great, too. They come weekly to maintain our pool and when we come home on Fridays, it is always sparkling and clean.

The office informed me they were at the busy season (April) with swimming pools and large jobs, and it would be aprox 3 weeks before they could set up an appt for my relatively small job of serving my spa. Since I was in no hurry I agreed to wait. True to their word, they contacted me at 3 weeks and set up an appt. The service man Uli was quick and very professional. He actually rushed to save me money since they charge per hour, comping me the unused portion of time. He provided helpful information on the specifics of my spa and answered all my questions. I would highly recommend this company inthe future. I don't know if they could provide sameday or even next day service for spas due to their busy times, but I would sure try to wait until they were available.

The work was done at a 7 unit condo propery. Gary came promptly to check out the job and gave a fair estimate. Work necessitated a pool closure for 2 days and Gary was very good about scheduling the work to minimize inconvenience of closing the pool. Workers showed up when promised and work was completed quickly. Company office staff is great about fielding questions by phone or email.
Description of Work: Inspected site for VGB compliance. Installed new drain covers, fixed plumbing leaks, and replaced the deck o seal on the pool deck.

Our regular guy is very professional and very sharp. He knows about things. He does an excellent job. The substitute that comes out was not so great. We will be very glad when our regular guy is back from his vacation. I don't know if the price was competitive or not. I don't even know how I found him. The whole team is very good. We've been replacing parts of our pool because all our pool equipments are twenty five years old. So it needs quite a bit of stroking. They were excellent on everything. They were great. We will use their services again in the future.

The company is GREAT. The only problem I had with getting service was that the manager who handles this area was on vacation for 3 weeks. They fell a little behind and then forgot about me. But once he came out it was wonderful, efficient and what I felt, honest. He found the problem and made recommendations. Very knowledgeable and overall, nice. Great experience. Just wish he was not on vacation for so long and/or someone else could have helped me with the problem. Once he returned all was handled professionally and the problem (for now) is fixed.
Description of Work: Checked spa and found the problem within 15 minutes. He was going to fix the light also that was out but did not have any on the truck. Talked with Gary, co-owner and he said next time the service manager (who performed the repair) was out here he would replace the bulb. I felt really good with this company and the person who performed the work. I would recommend this company and also go back to them with further problems. So much better than the previous company I had worked with who did not believe in customer service. This company was GREAT. I hope it continues to be this good going forward.

Lousy. The workers were not very punctual. The repairs seem to work fine so far, but are quite expensive. The worse part though is not the workers, its the staff in the office. They are very rude when answering the phones, and are rude about billing. They often forget to leave an invoice at the house after their work. So I wait for them to mail it. After a few months I get an angry message from them saying I am late in paying. They threaten to put it on a credit card they still have on file from another job I paid them for. I call to figure out whether they sent me an invoice, and to pay it. Turns out they charged my card, even though I did not authorize them to hold onto my payment information, or to charge it. Turns out they do not invoice, and they say "it is the customer's responsibility to request an invoice, then pay it on time". Ridiculous!! I ask them to send me an invoice in the future, and they refuse and lecture me about being a bad customer. I was forced to have my bank reverse the charges on my account as I could not count on them to do so. I am still working with the bank to do this, months later. Meanwhile they have my payment by check. Their business practice is quite poor and I would not recommend them.
Description of Work: We have had the pool doctors service our hot tub on three different occasions, to repair/replace parts such as the pump, heater, switch to turn it on, etc.

September 9, 2009 Late in July I requested a written estimate from the Pool Doctor, on repairs to my hot tub. They asked what kind of Hot tub and I said a Grecian Hot Tub. They said that was an old one but they would send someone out and they are paid $129, whether I accepted there written estimate or not. I said ok. On August 4, 2009 an employee came out to my house. On August 5, 2009, I received a voice mail, saying they were working on it and they would get the estimate to me soon. On August 12, 2009, they called and said they had all the information they needed and would be sending me an estimate by e-mail the next day. They didn't, so I called them on August 14, 2009, a little perturbed and ask them why they hadn't sent the estimate. There excuse was the parts were too old and too hard to get or they just couldn't find them. I told them I felt they were being unreasonable and that I had a right to expect to get the estimate within a reasonable amount of time and if they didn't I would not pay them the $129. I waited until August 18, 2009 and said they had enough time (2 weeks). they charged my credit card and never gave me an estimate. It appears they have a customer over the barrel with these costly estimates, just how many can you get for what they are charging, not to mention the time and aggravation they put you through. This is one of worst contractors I have ever dealt with. My position is they never fulfilled the contract, ie provided me with a written estimate, therefore they should not be paid. I did call someone else and they provided me with an estimate within a week of coming out.
Description of Work: On August 4, 2009 An employee came out and looked at my hot tub. He said the pump and part of the plumbing system would probably have replaced but did not give me an estimate. He said they would work on it and e-mail it to me. I said ok.

Response from THE POOL DOCTOR
The Pool Doctor is a pool and spa maintenance and repair company. When you call us with a mechanical problem on your pool or spa, due to the large amount and different types of pool and spa equipment that exist, we can only make two promises at the time the appointment is booked: 1. We will show up at the designated appointment time. 2. We will perform an equipment inspection and attempt to diagnose the problem to the best of our abilities. We can never guarantee a customer before coming out for an appointment that we will be able to give an estimate, let alone guarantee we can fix the problem. Once we make a site visit, we can then determine what our options will be. The cost to have us travel out and do an equipment inspection is a $129 call out charge. This includes one hour of our time or less. If we go over the first hour, then we bill in 15 minute increments. Customers are advised, as he admits in his letter, that we do not perform free estimates. We are sending experienced, educated and trained repair techs to the customer site, and as such, need to be compensated in order to afford to keep such personnel on staff. If a customer cannot figure out on their own how to resolve their own equipment issues and they have to hire experts to do so, then they should be willing to pay for that expertise. Obviously, 99% of customers feel this way or we would not be entering our 53rd year of business. In his particular case, he reported at the time of booking that the spa heater was not working and the system was making a lot of noise. Our service call was on 8/4/09. We did an overall system check and found that the filter pump was bad and needed to be replaced. Also, the hi speed relay needed to be replaced and the shut off valve was leaking and would need a new valve. We were not in a position on that day to provide a quote on all of these items. Our process is for the repair tech to report back to the owner of the company what equipment is needed, and then the owner will research, find the appropriate replacement parts, and give the customer a written email estimate. When we located his pump in the manufacturer’s book, we found out it was obsolete (see attached). We notified him due to this fact we were going to try and find a spa vendor who in the past had obsolete parts for sale. Unfortunately, that vendor was on vacation during this time period. He did not return until the week of August 10. He did not return our phone calls until the 12th and said he would look into it and get back to us. When we had not heard from him by the 14th, we left another message. On August 17, he phoned us and we explained to him that the delay was not on our part, and we had no control over another company returning our phone calls. At that point, he became very rude and informed us we had left him waiting too long, that this was unreasonable, and he hung up on us! Clearly, he decided to terminate the relationship. We were planning on finding out if the pump was available through this vendor. If it were, we would have quoted the pump, relay and valve. If it weren’t, then his tub would be obsolete and no estimate would be forthcoming. You cannot expect a vendor to quote on obsolete equipment. The Pool Doctor always tries to get customers through our repair cycle as quickly as possible. We are sorry he was frustrated with the process, but there were no other options at our disposal. Nonetheless, our $129 call out charge was due and payable since we did show up on the property and we did diagnose the problem. Calls were returned promptly and scheduling was quick. They did not try and oversell us on anything that we did not need. The knowledge and experience of the service technician was fabulous.
Description of Work: The did a complete pool and spa inspection, and got everything back up and running for us again. The representative was knowledgeable and punctual. They ordered a new pool sweep that we needed and kept in very good contact with us on it's status.

Dale was timely, thorough, and responsible. He appears to know his profession completely, and is very helpful in explaining a problem and resolving it effectively. He found a potentially dangerous situation that two other service people had overlooked (pump overheating in a spa in a wooden deck) and resolved it immediately. Highly recommended. The Pool Doctor's monthly maintenance fees are higher than some, but it is worth the difference.
