 + 3 moreThe quality of the work was excellent and he arrived on time and finished the job in a day. The price was extremely good. As others have stated he is slow to respond to phone or email messages. I first contacted him by both phone and email messages. It took a few days to get a response, we set up a time for him to view the bathroom but he did not show but responded immediately to a query and stated that he had miss-marked the date. A second appointment was made, he showed up on time this time. I got a quote two days later. We accepted the offer and set the date of the repair. He showed up on time, started work, kept me informed of progress and finished on time. The quality of the work was exceptionally good you cannot distinguish the leak area from the rest of the room. I would definitely use him again, even with the minor responsiveness issue.

Very creative solutions to the many issues that came up during the project work. Have used Josh before and will continue to do so.
Description of Work: Demolished the old deck and built a new one. Installed all new beams, posts, wood flooring and what not....finished off with great tile work.

 + -1 moreCalled him up and sent an email saying we would like to move forward with the project and that is the last we have heard or seen of him. We have left several voice mails and now box is full without a return call and also sent several emails with no return. We are worried about him and hope he is Ok but are moving on and contacting another contractor due to other work being done and this is holding us up.
Description of Work: Came to house, seemed like a qualified individual and after a week or so gave us an estimate for the various projects we discussed. We received several bids and his was the most complete although not the cheapest.

 + 0 moreHe was very excellent, he was reasonable, he didn't try to up the price after he started and he didn't do anything strange. He just did what he said he was going to do and he did it on time. I was very happy with the guy. He was absolutely on time. He did it when he said that he would do it.

 + 1 moreOverall, MMH did an excellent job. I would not hesitate to use them again. They showed up when they said. Early afternoons off helped me keep sane through all the pounding and sawing. Their workmanship was good. Importantly, it was easy to communicate with Josh and Jason, and they were adaptable to my suggestions. I appreciated the helpful touches: rehanging some hooks and putting back some shelf racks. Both gentlemen were pleasant and professional.
Description of Work: Manly Man Handyman cleaned the debris in my large unfinished attic. R 13 insulation was placed between the joists. The inside of the roof and the walls was covered with reflective insulation. The fellows cut and screwed down several pieces of 3/4 in plywood to cover a large part of the floor of the attic. An exhaust vent for the downstairs bathroom was laid all the way to an exterior vent cover. The attic opening was partially covered and a door that lifts up into the attic now covers the rest of the opening. They built a handrail for the stairs leading up to the attic and a guardrail around the opening (it also continues the handrail from the stairs into the attic). The $4366 price included all materials and labor.

We liked that because it is hard for us to take off work during the day to have someone come for an estimate. Though he cautioned that the estimate might need to be revised once they came in person, he stuck to the estimate. His workers arrived on time and completed the job within the estimated time. They did an excellent job!
Description of Work: Repaired water damage in our kitchen. replace drywall on wall and ceiling, textured and painted repaired area, replaced kitchen cabinet and dishwasher that had been removed.

Description of Work: I had many odd jobs that needed to be done. From servicing the dryer and relocating the dryer vent, patching stucco, prepared, patched and painting the bathroom replacing the light fixture and faucet and re-chaulking the bath tub and kitchen sink, installed exterior vents to keep the critters out, hooking up my ice maker, patched a hole in the drywall in a closet.

 + 4 moreJosh, Jason & Luis are AMAZING. They arrive when they say they are going to arrive. They work hard while they're working. They clean up after themselves every day. They are great with the two old dogs that are wandering around all day. They are trustworthy and understanding- willing to make changes as they come up and always willing to help with solutions to problems that arise when working on an old house. Best of all, they are honest and fine, fine people.

 + 1 moreThis is my first time writing an Angie's List review and I'm happy to say it's a very favorable one. Josh was punctual, professional and pleasant to work with. Most importantly, my husband and I are quite satisfied with the job he did. I'm not the easiest person to please, so that's saying a lot. It's obvious that Josh has high standards for his work as well and takes pride in the product of his labors. I've seen people rush through jobs, and the result is at best mediocre. This job involved the challenge of trying to match a custom-mixed stain on our Phillipine mahogany front doors and replicate the result on another type of wood. Josh took his time and got it right. He also noticed the very heavy 8' slider was a bit more difficult to close after staining and sealing with 3 coats of polyurethane and spent considerable time making adjustments to it to mitigate the drag. In short, this was a good experience and I look forward to working with Josh again in the future.
Description of Work: Stained and varnished the unfinished pine interior side of a recently installed 8' Pella french sliding door to match existing front doors and re-sanded, stained and varnished the interior wood side of another (6') Pella slider that was installed about 8 years ago.

I haven't used his services because I am still looking for other quotes but he was the only person that followed through. If I had the money and could afford it, I would work with him. I tried several other people and didn't hear from anybody. It was quite expensive for me. He said if it were minor things and wouldn't take longer than 2 days, he would quote me at $15 an hour. If it would take longer than 2 days, then he would need to give me the quote.
Description of Work: I got a quote from The Manly Man Handyman to do caulking around the baseboards, put fixtures up around the canned lighting, install smoke detectors that previous contractor had removed, add a baseboard underneath the sink and put on covers on electrical outlets.

 + -1 moreI tried reaching this service provider on multiple occasions. I sent him an introductory email listing the items that I needed done and asking if he could give me a rough estimate. Not a concrete estimate because I understood he would need to see the work before he could give a firm estimate. I also inquired about his availability. He never called me or returned my email message. I then called and left a voicemail message referring to my email list of items and asked for a callback. Still have not heard anything. I called again several weeks later and never heard back so I called another provider who did come and performed the work for me.

 + -1 moreThe provider:1) Can to my home and gave an estimate 2) Then designed the replacement structure 3) The provider was well within the time estimate for completion 4) workers were courteous and very professional 5) After the job was over they cleaned up and left the area in pristine shape I would definitly use this provider for small construction and repair jobs that would typically require a handy man. I have no hesitation recommended them of jobs.

He responded quickly to my call, always arrived when he said he would, and was thorough and detailed in the work he did. I particularly appreciated his approach to solving problems: he took the time to think things through prior to starting the work, carefully laid out alternatives, and looked for low-cost solutions where applicable. His work product was superior and he left all work areas clean. His work on a gate that had been giving us fits was especially good. Many others had tried without success, and at considerably more expense, to fix a recurring problem. He had to work within the constraint of providing a temporary fix (until we are in a position to replace it) and his solution has been the only one that has worked. I would recommend Josh and intend to use his services for many future projects.
Description of Work: Variety of services included fixing gates, door-lock mechanisms, water filter, leak in skylight; replacing bath faucet and drain pipe; installing garage door seal, building new book shelf (including matching paint), etc.

Description of Work: PLEASE READ!! I had contacted approx. 10 individuals listed as "handymen" to put up 2 drapery rods in son's downtown LA apartment. I was very specific about what was entailed: 2 wrought iron rods of 10' each, plaster walls, specific model of Levolor extendable bracket. I had collected "estimates" which ranged from $100 to $375 - no, that is NOT a typo! Before going any farther, let me just say that Josh Metzler/The Manly Man Handyman was super in every way! After talking to Josh, we set up appointment, he sent email confirming the date, time and agreed price of $45/hr, minimum of 2 hours. He had mentioned that he couldn't imagine the job taking anywhere near 2 hours, but that there was a minimum charge - which I understood and completely agreed to. He came to do the work timely, arrived with all tools needed, did an excellent job without any damage to the ancient plaster walls. I would recommend this company for any type of handyman work needed and will definitely call again. Josh immediately understood the job requirements (from other estimates I was pretty sure their estimate were for putting an addition on a house), was punctual, professional and, above all, ethical. I am very grateful to have found the Manly Man Handyman!

 + 5 moreJosh shows up exactly at the time requested. He doesn't waste any time in getting started and he is very focused and hard working He started in the bathroom by removing the old grout. This took the most time - the removal of the old grout (3 days I think). Old caulk was also removed from the bathtub and new caulk applied. Josh had to make a hole in the adjoining wall in order to access controls valve and pipes - he is very good about letting us know when he has to turn the water off. Work was done in a very timely manner. The ceiling, walls and trim were applied and everything looked perfect when we examined the paint job. Josh does excellent work - he is very meticulous in making sure the work is done well and done right. Plus, he always cleans up after himself every day. He recycles the cardboard boxes which I thought was great - I am big on recycling!
Description of Work: Makeover of master bathroom: removal of existing shower controls. A hole in the closet adjoining the wall needed to be opened up in order to access control valves and pipes. The hole was patched and seriously - could not even tell a hole was even made because Josh repaired the wall beautifully. Old grout in shower was removed and the tile was re-grouted and sealed. White walls were re-painted as were the ceiling and trim. Damaged areas were sanded and repaired. Old toilet was removed and new one was installed. 2 new recessed lights were installed - one over the toilet and one in the shower area. Old shower enclosure was removed and new one was installed on the last day.
