+ 0 moreTwo days later it rained, and the next day the gate would not close because it had warped. Every attempt to get Mr. BOWMAN to return my calls have been futile, and the gate remains useless.I called HANDYMAN ON DEMAND and they would not offer any help, and would not even confirm that they knew Mr. BOWMAN. They suggested that I contact LENDING TREE - that proved to be a 2 hour exercise in futility, just trying to get through the auto answering machines!I did contact the Customer Service line at DONE RIGHT, and they said they would investigate and get back to me; that was two weeks ago and, naturally, I have heard nothing.So, if you get a booklet in the mail from DONE RIGHT, I suggest you toss in in the nearest recycling bin. They cannot be trusted!
Description of Work: BEWARE of a company named DONE RIGHT. They are owned by LENDING TREE, and purport to have all kinds of repair people (plumbers, electricians, etc.) that they guarantee to be thorough and trustworthy. I contacted one of their agencies called HANDYMAN ON DEMAND, who sent me a man named TOM BOWMAN.Mr. BOWMAN rebuilt my backyard gate, and collected $350 for the task.

+ 0 moreI filed a complaint with the BBB. It was the single worst experience I have ever had when hiring help.
Description of Work: I needed my hallway painted & 2 walls in my kitchen wall papered so I called them to give me a quote. I specifically stated the ENTIRE hallway. I even mentioned that I have dogs and the baseboards get dirty so easily. I also had light beige stamped designs on the walls which I said I wanted covered over. I said "The entire hallway should be pure white." They gave me a quote, it was a bit high but ok & he seemed nice enough so I accepted the job. Well at the end of the day I asked if he was going to finish tomorrow and he said, "No I'm finished". I said you never painted the base boards and I can still see the designs, you only did one layer of paint. His response was the base boards were never included in the quote ( there was no mention on the written quote of excluding them) and you're only seeing shadows on the wall. You don't need 2 coats. I called the owner and he said it would be double the price if I want baseboards too and another coat. I kid you not, people!!! This was a total bait and switch deal! Then the handyman said if I didn't say anything he would come back on the weekend and do it for cash without going through the company. They 2 of them got into a fight on the phone and the handy man claimed he just quit and then owner kept calling my home # trying to ask why he wasn't returning his calls. It was a totally unprofessional weird drama scene in my home when all I wanted was my hallway painted and a little wallpaper. I never did get what I wanted from the owner. He refused to honor the original quote and after a full day of trying to work it out and arguing and also there is SO MUCH MORE to the story about the owners behavior I just can't tell you! I don't have the room to go into all the detail. The handyman did come back the next weekend, I paid him $25.00 an hour to finish the paint job and wallpaper. He did an OK job on the 1st wall but then left a 12" corner hanging down flop eared and said my wall would not accept paste so there was nothing he could do. Well I was furious after all the h*** they already did. I'd been polite up till that point. I said either fix it or you do not get paid! Needless to say it was fixed I paid him and thanked god I never had to deal with those 2 again!!! I filed a report with BBB. I found another handyman on Angie's List who's great and have had no problems. I've used him for along time now.

+ -1 moreThey did the work, but, were extremely expensive. The pipe started leaking a week later, so, we called them back and we had to pay another 300 dollars. However, their professionalism was great. I would not use them again because of their pricing.

+ -1 moreMy interaction with them was fantastic! They were very nice and thoughtful. They were on time, clean, responsive, and reputable. The only reason I did not use them was because their quotes were too high. I would recommend them, but would not pay their prices.

+ -1 moreThe fellow they sent was very nice. He didn?t seem that experienced. We were not happy with his work. I called in and complained to the people at the company and he came back and redid everything. I suppose now its ok, but we weren?t really happy with what he did. We would not hire them again.
Description of Work: They did some kitchen cabinet drawer work. Our house is very old and we needed the cabinets changed because they were so heavy to open. They changed 6 drawers.

One of the contractors refused to fix the damage that he did, but when I explained my displeasure with Handyman on Demand, they fixed the damage free of charge and got someone new. Otherwise, I had a good experience with them and would hire them again. It was very reassuring to me that they were bonded. They were very friendly to my work schedule.
Description of Work: They took up the wood floor in the hallway and put down tile. The front door needed renovated, also.

+ -1 moreThe company called to say that Jerry would be a little late due to traffic. He arrived shortly there after. We walked though the home noting the items to be repaired. He developed a quote for supplies and labor. He left to obtain the supplies which cost close but weren't under the estimate. Jerry was personable and enthusiastic and took care of one item after another. He came back the following day for the molding to complete the job. The fire place key needs more work to be functional. One part of the shower still needs caulking.
Description of Work: Plumbing: Reseat 2 handles for leaking faucet, install garbage disposal; Carpentry: Replace base boards in kitchen and stain, replace molding on door and paint. Electrical: Install light switch and tighten lamp shades. Other items: Recaulked tub and shower, rescreen and repair patio screen, restain areas on front door, replace sliding glass door handles, re assemble gas fire place key unit, leveled stove and painted wall behind it.

+ -1 moreI don't understand why companies charge "dispatch fees". I would have like to meet with these guys to get a feel for them. Their reputation here seems to be great but I'm not paying someone $40 just to show up at my house. Being that this is an insurance claim job, I have to have many estimates and this company wasn't willing to work with me on the fee.
Description of Work: Wanted an estimate for drywall repair, small amount of basic carpentry and paint.

+ 0 moreOverall, the repair went okay. Pros: Work completed in one day. Workers were friendly and were willing to answer questions. The company sent someone out to finish the job after I called about the gap around the window. Cons: New window was similar, but a little different from existing window in terms of style and size. Would have been nice if only the pane of glass was replaced instead of the whole window. The new window was somewhat smaller than the original. Worker forgot to sand down the wood "frame" before painting and putting it back on the house. Thought the cost was somewhat expensive, but not unreasonable.
Description of Work: Replace a broken window (2 pane, criss-cross pattern). Worker arrived at the house to do the estimate. After agreeing to the work tasks and cost, scheduled a date for the work to be done. Also, worker placed order with a window shop for a new window. Worker mentioned that the panel of glass cannot be replaced separately and the whole window must be replaced. On the day of the repair, worker arrived and replaced the window: Removed wood "frame" off the window. Yanked old window out of the wall. Put new window in. Used various putties and caulking around the window to make it stay in place. Note: He had to go to Home Depot to buy putties, caulk and paint. Nailed in the wood "frame" that was earlier removed and repainted the wood. Worker left. Later noticed a gap between the left edge of the window and the house. Called the company and another worker arrived a few days later to fill in the gap.

We had some parts missing from the backboard so they went immediately to the store to get that and back as quickly as possible to finish the job for me. It was a very good experience and the guys were very friendly and responsible about their work.
Description of Work: I needed a small installation of a blackboard in my kitchen for my children and a basketball backboard out in the garage. It was a 3 men crew on the job and it took them just a couple of hours to get the job done.

+ -1 moreThey came out to do an estimate, they were late 1.5 hours, they spent another 30 minutes of my time walking through part of the job, He told me we should not walk through the interior work at the time because I would get a price break by calling back and being a repeat customer. He was impatient, pushy, finished my sentences and clearly disinterested in the job. Their business manager did not see a reason to let me know, so I never heard from them again.
Description of Work: Thankfully, no work was performed. The work to be done was classic handyman work. Touching up paint, repairing crawl space covers, patching holes, drywall repair, siding repair and concrete repair. I estimate about 3 days of work.

+ -1 moreVery friendly and prompt. People on the phone nice and thorough. The repairman came on time and was very patient and friendly. The quote was reasonable, so we agreed to do the work. We have a textured ceiling, and I was not sure he could match the texture which was very important to me. The first time thru, he did not, but he persevered and was able to do it correctly. I wish he would have had more experience with this type of ceiling, as we took a lot of time discussing how it would be done, and he is the expert, not me. He would have painted the area too, but I did not have the materials available for him. Very nice experience.
Description of Work: Patched two holes in the ceiling and matched existing texture. Repaired part of a wall and matched the smooth wall texture.

+ -1 moreThe overall experience was excellent. The estimate was made as planned and the craftsman (who did the estimate) arrived on time. Very neat work and good cleanup. The price was probably 30% over market but I trusted the organization, so the premium was well spent. I believe they estimate by the task and not by time. This means that you pay as much for one task among several as you would for that task alone. In other words, you may think you save money by getting ancillary tasks done as long as the guy is there, but I don't believe you are. I would call these people after getting a couple of other estimates. It will put you in a better position to negotiate with this excellent company.
Description of Work: Opened up a dry wall and checked for source of wetness. Closed up and refinished wall section. Analyzed the problem as being from suspected corner shower rather than from plumbing itself. Stripped silicone caulk from corner show stall and re-caulked. Did same for a bathtub and toilet. Placed magnetic devices to hold two kitchen cabinet door closed.

+ -1 morePrompt and courteous service. Very reasonably priced. The handyman they sent was very knowledgeable and started work right away. He finished all of the work in two days and I'm very satisfied with the result. Would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Repaired water damage to family room and half-bath. Replaced a section of the wood flooring to prepare for new carpet. Replaced drywall in half-bath, laundry room and family room along with baseboard moulding. Installed new vanity in bath. Painted bathroom and family room where new drywall was installed.

+ -1 moreTHE OVERALL EXPERIENCE WITH THE COMPANY WAS VERY GOOD, AND WE HAD THEM DO WORK BEFORE. IF WE NEEDED THAT TYPE OF SERVICE, WE WOULD HAVE THEM COME BACK. THEY SHOWED WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD. AFTER THE PAINTER WAS HERE, THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THEY CAME BACK AND DIDN'T CHARGE EXTRA.
