I used Elk Grove Remodeling & Construction. They came over about 2007. I would not recommend them. They sealed my cat into the wall. I couldn't find my cat and I could hear meowing and he was inside the wall. I called them and I had them reopen the wall and take my cat out. Then the base boards after they put the tile in they were suppose to put new base boards in and there was like a big gap between the floor and the base board, there was a big space between them and they're suppose to meet the floor and the guy tried to tell me that's the way it's suppose to be.
Description of Work: They were remodeling the guest bathroom and putting tile in both bathrooms.

Description of Work: I just had Elk Grove Remodeling finish some additional work in our home. They exceeded my expectations yet again! I was quoted a completion time of two weeks and they were cleaned up and out within 8 days!! Not only were they efficient but the quality of work and communication was, again, superior to all others before them. I send many thanks to their wonderful team! I will never use another contractor to do any work in my home, they are the BEST!

Excellent, far better than ever expected.
Description of Work: We were very pleased with this company. We contracted with them to do a full kitchen remodel in our Rancho Murrieta home. After spending weeks reviewing drawings and layouts they began the process as scheduled. They worked ahead of schedule, completed all items, even helping us around the house above and beyond what we had hired them to do. Their foreman and workman were wonderful and a true pleasure to work with. Their design team was also very easy to work with and explained our options in the beginning as well as through the project. The kitchen came out much better than expected and we could not be happier. They even sent us a thank you note when we were done. Ive never seen a company with such great customer service, pride in craftmanship and work ahead of schedule like these people did. I could not recommend them enough.

I have never worked with a company that had no pride in its workmanship. They were driven by money and payment dates from the beginning. They never completed anything, but were looking to the next progress payment, earned or not. EG Remodeling never even completed shop drawings for the cabinetry, but they pounced on the opportunity to claim that I owed them for their badly made cabinets. I never really believed that this kind of scamming existed...or maybe this only happened to the people who didn't do their homework. My eyes have been opened. I did my homework, but not thoroughly enough! Next time , it's Angie's list only! There are crooks out there that prey even upon the wary among us. EG Remodeling demanded 30% before start of work. It's going to cost me more to repair their poor workmanship and complete their work than my original contract would have cost with any normal, reputable contractor. As soon as I called them on their poor workmanship the threatening letters started. This has been a nightmare!
Description of Work: The original contract was for $24,693. EG Remodel did not finish the job. They abandoned the project when I refused to allow them to install the "custom" cabinets that did not fit my kitchen, were not constructed of materials called for in the contract, and were not up to code. They argued with me and demanded to install them anyway! Since then, they have sent demand letters that I pay them the balance of the contract (less than 20% of the work is complete, yet they have nearly 50% of the money!) or they would not release my countertops or window. They seem to think that I "breached" the contract by stopping shoddy work and that means they get a bonanza of money form the contract! Demolition was not completed. Hardwood flooring was not completed. Drywall was not completed. Plumbing was not completed. Electrical was not completed. Cabinetry was disastrous. UPDATE: Nearly a month has passed since I pointed out the errors in their cabinets. Most of the cabinets are still here! Dumped in my home to prevent any possible progress by other contractors! They tore out my hardwood floors in February and no one can replace them with all these cabinets in the way! This is beyond outrageous! I have written them many emails trying to resolve this equitably, and had experts examine their cabinets to see if they could be remedied, but Elk Grove Remodeling stands firm in their original position; take the bad cabinets and pay us 100% of the contract + random upcharges, OR cancel the contract and pay us 100% of the contract and you can go pick up your window and countertop yourself.

Response from Elk Grove Remodeling & Construction
Elk Grove Remodeling & Construction has been a respectable custom home builder and remodeling firm for 12 years. We have never had any type of violations or disciplinary action taken by the CSLB or any other agency. We hold an A+ rating with the BBB and have a vast client base with most of our work being from repeat or referral business-all of this speaks for our quality craftsmanship and integrity. We contracted with the member for a kitchen remodel totaling $24,693.00. At that time she paid a deposit, per CSLB guidelines, totaling $1000.00. She is inaccurate in saying EGR “demanded 30% down to begin work”. After working on her project for more than 14 days, per the terms of our contract, we collected a progress payment of 30%. During those 14 days our cabinet designer meet with her multiple times, we ordered all of the materials to fabricate her CUSTOM CABINETRY for her entire kitchen, we selected & contracted to buy her slab countertop, ordered her custom garden window and entered into several binding sub-contractor agreements for work to be performed at her residence (flooring, electrical, etc). We abided by all CSLB, contractual and insurance guidelines throughout the member's project. She was a very difficult owner to deal with from the start, however this is not the first time our staff has navigated their way through working with an owner with issues. She continually questioned most all of our means and methods, going as far as to demand to know why we used a particular nail/screw or a certain piece of equipment. Unfortunately she seemed more interested in controlling and micromanaging that to trust the licensed and experienced professionals to do their job. The non-stop paranoia and questioning of our crew was a hindrance to her own project. At each question she grilled our crew about the owner, our staff and means, she was answered to the best of the Foreman’s ability. He would always kindly suggested she contact our office with any questions she had; however she never contact the office but continued to harass our staff. The project was a mere week from total completion when the member, out of blue and without merit, threw our staff off her project. While delivering her custom made cabinetry she became erratic and insistent that “these aren’t my cabinets”. No amount of rational or affirmation seemed to matter. She was show the drawings, that the cabinets were created from, that she had signed and approved. The cabinets (only two were unwrapped) were measured, compared to the approved measurements on the drawings and explained to her. Our Foreman and Designer met with her the next day to go over any concerns she had and as the Foreman stated in his daily job log “she didn’t seem to want to hear any of what we said and none of our resolutions worked for her, she wouldn’t listen to us”. She absolutely refused to listen to us when we again and again told her that we would ensure that all items were corrected with a job punch list, but it was near impossible to tell anything as the cabinetry were not together (doors and draws off for transport to her house), unwrapped or installed. The member refused all options and breached our legal contract by demanding EGR leave her property. The member has no professional experience or licensing to give her unfounded claims any validity. Her assumptions are conjecture only and none of them are fact based. EGR has abided by all guidelines and far exceeded all CSLB standards as would have been evident when we passed inspection should be have been allowed to install the cabinets. The cabinets are gorgeous and were fabricated to contract and approved specifications. All flooring was installed per guidelines and by a licensed flooring contractor (more work was done above and beyond the contract at the member's request-she never paid for). All electrical (we did more work above and beyond contract that we have never been paid for) will meet and exceed all requirements and was performed by a licensed electrician. Our company has expended far more monies than she paid us in her draw. She failed to pay her due draw and all change orders she authorized at the time of breaching our biding contract. As recently as April 18, 2011 the member has been contacting our sub-contractors (flooring, electrical, plumbing) in an attempt to hire them for additional work. This seems very suspect as she has complained, in her filing to CSLB, that all work, including that done by these subs was below par and illegal. Again, her words and actions do not add up. It seems clear that she doesn't actually believe her unfounded claims but has some personal agenda . Needless to say that none of our sub-contractors want anything to do with this person after witnessing her erratic behavior. Additionally, she has been purchasing items under Elk Grove Remodeling's name and charge accounts as recently as April 15, 2011. We became aware that the member is misrepresenting, to our vendors, that she has authorization to use our name, receive our contractor discount AND have items charged on our accounts. Elk Grove Remodeling's legal counsel has notified her that should she continue this fraudulent behavior we will be forced to pursue criminal actions against her. To this day we have no idea, other than for some type of personal agenda, why she has breached our contract and gone on a slanderous rampage (filing with the CSLB, BBB, posting signs in her yard to defame our firm and posting fabricated and liable comments on websites) against our company. The project was aborted to no fault of EGR’s and we have offered no less than a dozen times to return to perform the work we contracted for and we remain more than ready willing and able to do so. The member has refused all offers and EGR should be made whole, at the very least, for the situation solely created by her. We have offered two resolutions to the member should she not wish to continue the project, however she has failed to respond to either and therefore we take that as a denial and further affirmation of her breach of contract. Should you have any questions or wish to see the mountain of job documentation we have compiled that support our position, please feel free to contact us at the number below.
