About us

Do you smell musty and damp odors in your home or office? These are clear signs of property contamination. It went very well. He had to come back 3 times to make sure the mold was gone since it was done by another company. We wouldn't have known that otherwise.

Mr. Miller knew how concerned we were came in the evening of the same day I called. Professional, informative, excellent follow through and available for follow up questions. Guided us through the process for repair recommendations and what to expect. Cost included microbial and moisture inspection, indoor and outdoor quality lab tests, additional air quality tests X 2 and minus the $50 Angies list discount.

I had David Miller CRIE Certified-Environmental come out to check for molds. I honestly don't remember what the price was but maybe it wasn't too outrageous so I was comfortable with it. I would use this provider again.

David came out the day I called him. He is very personable and committed. He was very thorough and even climbed a ladder to get to the attic from outside to check the air conditioning system. He sent the results back in a few days and followed up to talk about what steps to take next. He cares about what he does and he is good at what he does.

David was very professional and explained everything to me. The tests showed 4 different kids of molds, very high humidity levels and water damage in both bathrooms. Davids report gave me recommendations for what to fix as well as who to call for the repairs.

I called because he had a special listed on Angie's List that said, "$39 for a Home Interior Mold Inspection". When I called, he said the $39 did not include testing the indoor air quality, for mold. I agreed to pay the extra. He found several small leaks and tested the air quality. He sent me a detailed report of his findings and his recommendations. Non of the rooms had levels beyond that which is listed as acceptable, by the EPA. I have since fixed the leaks. One thing that bothered me, he did not find a leak behind the refrigerator. A month after he came, I purchased a new refrigerator and the installers pointed out the leak to me. Again, I had it fixed.

The cost was more than I expected. I had a written report come back and I have other people come out and give estimates and it was kind of inconsistent. I would tell people research prior to doing it because area that they are not frailer with can easily be taken if you don’t know what you are doing.

David Miller was prompt, courteous, extremely knowledgeable, and absolutely zero pressure from a sales standpoint. He took great care in inspecting every home of the house, and his reports came back to us exactly on the date he suggested they would. Not only did he email the information, but he followed that up with a phone call and additional education. Can't say enough about David, he is fantastic!!!

I already knew that mold forms in my bedroom in the winter; I have been able to get rid of it but I wanted to know the causation and how to get rid of it altogether. I also knew that I had other moisture problems in the house. David was very thorough, went thru every room, made suggestions and gave some recommendations. I felt that I was left with a good idea on how to proceed with repairs.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it worked fine. He did a good job although I had to pay more money than we had intended, but he and I worked it out and he was very good. I even gave him a bottle of wine to say thank you. He came out right when he said he would; he was quick. There was another test he had to run that was not included in the Big Deal. We talked about it and I agreed to it. It was about another $45. He was professional, prompt and courteous.
Description of Work: I used Richard Gray, CMI,CRIE, Certified-Environmental to check my house for mold. He found mold and had to send the mold into a lab for it to be analyzed so he could tell us what kind of mold it was so we would know if it was harmful.

Then I had to pay another $300 for the lab portion of the test. So the deal was not quite what I thought it would be. I didn't know it was going to cost another $300 for the lab tests to be done, I thought it was included in the deal, but all in all the experience was good. He was very knowledgeable and did the test quickly and then followed up as well.

We are happy you thought our service was what you needed. We have no way to have our recommendations validated unless we take samples of the indoor air which entails an outside lab and they are not inexpensive. The good thing however is that when we are done everyone knows exactly what needs to be done, if anything, to bring the structure back to health. Thank you for taking the time to review our services.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for a mold and moisture inspection. He came out on time, and was polite a professional. He first asked if there were areas particular concern he should address first. We explained there were odors and concerns of mold in one of the bathrooms. He used his moisture meter to look for higher moisture areas around floors, tubs, toilets and under sinks. He was thorough and reported any areas that demonstrated higher moisture levels to me. However, I was expecting more than just a moisture inspection, as the Big Deal was called a mold inspection. This inspection was basically a way to get a foot in the door to up-sell his more expensive services. First he stated that he could not tell if there was mold present until he did an air sample for molds. This would cost an additional $350+. He used scare tactics, and pressured me to make a decision right then and there for further services, and seemed impatient at my request to do a bit of research first. I asked if he could prepare a written estimate for me, of costs and procedures, but I have yet to receive an estimate from him. Additionally he offered that whether or not mold existed in the house, he could perform a pasteurization of the entire home for a mere $3000 (half the price of a home in Marin!), and he could certify the house as "mold free." By now I was showing him the door. I was expecting to get any information about mold in the home, and so therefore I think the "Mold Inspection" title was a scam and misleading, as I did not receive any information about mold, except how much it cost to maybe find some. The inspection should more accurately and honestly be called a "moisture inspection," and in my opinion it was worth the cost to determine where leaks existed behind tile and in the floor under vinyl, as getting this information in other ways could cost a lot more.

It's sad our service did not meet her expectations. I thought I was very clear, the $39 special offered by Angies List is meant to introduce our services to the Angies List members. The standard fee for this kind of inspection is $150 which, includes a thorough home inspection for mold, moisture and odors, a written report along with recommendations. I spent over an hour with them on the inspection and did deliver the written report along with recommendations. Everything our $150 home inspection includes. Pasteurization can only be done by a certified and licensed contractor which we are not. The Indoor Air Quality Consortium which we belong, include contractors that do perform standard Remediation and there are other contractors licensed for Pasteurization which at times are recommended, each project has its own specific need. Testing for mold is extremely necessary for residential air quality professionals to make informed determinations as to the potential health threats to the resident. Up-selling is left to salesmen which we are not.

It was fair but I wouldn't do it again and I wouldn't recommend it. All he did was to use a device that I could buy at Home Depot to test moisture behind the walls. He tried to sell me something 349$ test for mold that I don't need and I was disappointed with that.

Response from David Miller CRIE Certified-Environmental
I’m sorry [member name removed] did not think our service met his expectations. Just to clear a few of his comments up: First, none of the equipment indoor environmentalist’s use can be purchased at Home Depot. Next, implying we try to sell an indoor air quality test might be a wrong thing to do, is the same as complaining that your doctor only wants to sell you tests to discover what’s ailing you. When a structure is obviously contaminated, it is necessary for contractors to know what they are dealing with, more important the occupant needs to know what they have been living with that might cause health issues. If an indoor air quality test is needed, our environmentalist recommends the testing at an additional fee, the test samples will be sent to a certified mycology lab for the results which is part of the fee, then we analyze and report them in layman’s terms back to the client, all part of the fee. I’m not sure how [Member Name Removed] knows he does not need the test, it is the test that determines a need. He did take advantage of the $49 discounted inspection fee for something, part of the inspection from a professional environmentalist is to determine if there is a need. Next, Angies List offers Certified-Environmental.com’s $150 whole house inspection package as a limited time offer to their members, for $49. Finally, the $49 value of a service which include up to three professional man-hours, fuel, a written report including recommendations and equipment is anything but “less than valuable”. We will request Angies List refund [Member Name Removed] his $49.
