I called them and he was very quick and very professional. They made an appointment within 24 hours. He appeared to be very knowledgeable and gave a lot of good suggestions to improve the heating system. He suggested that we give an audit to the State of California that would provide potential rebates for improving the installation and efficiency of the house. So I did take his advice and met with the team that he recommended. The team did come shortly thereafter and did the audit. They were entertaining. He did an estimated based on the audit and gave us the information for the potential rebate. He also provided us a very detailed grasp of how much savings we will incur by improving the furnace. The furnace is 35 years old which is needed to be upgraded. Right now I emailed him this morning to ask him certain questions and so we are waiting for his reply to decide whether or not we want to move forward.

This is my second review of Hassler Heating and Air Conditioning. I initially had an unfavorable experience with them but after the owner realized a mistake had been made, he immediately follow up with me to rectify the situation. I understand that sometimes things get missed and mistakes are made. It's how they handle these mistakes that really stands out in my mind. Hassler Heating and Air Conditioning is truly a customer focused business. Tim, the owner, had recognized that my air filter was not sufficient and had recommended an upgraded. He wanted a second opportunity my earn my business and was very surprised when he had offer to do it without charge. I still had some unfinished work so I hired them to complete the work along with the filter. I was impressed with their technician, Andy, who did an excellent job and was very professional. He was very helpful and gave me some honest advice. Thanks guys, I'll definitely keep business card for future needs.

After a bad cold spell this year, I finally decided to install an energy efficient first floor only central heating system in my 100-year old home. Hassler was prompt with their initial inspection and bid and gave me terms which were manageable without a lot of coaxing. The installation team was efficient, polite, and wasted no time. The team leader had to come up with some creative ways to install the return air box inside a small under-the-stairs closet without tearing apart the lathe and plaster wall and making an aesthetic mess of the area in the entry hallway. They explained things and answered my questions along the way. Everything was cleaned up when the work was completed. The whistling sound from the return air register grille had to be fixed, which they did by widening the grille opening so that the air could flow more smoothly into the return air cavity. With the exception of the return air grille noise and some minor adjustments to the new thermostat, everything went very well amd the system seems to be functioning well at this point. I will be able to give you another report sometime in the coming winter months, when the system will be working full time to heat the first floor and maybe part of the upstairs as the warm air wafts upward. I'll be able to report on any service calls I may make if the need arises this winter.

Mike Hassler listened to our desires four our new heating system, proposed the scope of work for the installation of the new system, and wrote a detailed proposal/contract with prices clearly stated. Throughout the 3-day project Jesse, the installer, talked with us and did all that was possible to customize the installation to suit us. Hassler Heating included cost of asbestos removal in the contract and scheduled the final inspection by the City of El Cerrito. All work was done thoroughly and on time. Jesse and his team, Carlos and Jorge, were highly skilled and pleasant.Mile Hassler has a genuine desire to provide outstanding work for his clients, and he wants his customers to be happy with the improvements they have made to their home. His proposal included all labor and materials required to complete this installation. HH&AC warrants all parts & labor associated with the installation for a period of FIVE YEARS at no cost to owner. HH&AC will honor a TEN YEAR labor warranty with yearly maintenance.Mike also offers a 5% discount for seniors!Hassler Heating & Air Conditioning's performance on our project was excellent in all respects. We recommend the company without reservation.

From the minute my phone call was answered by Hassler Heating - we were well taken care of. Phone calls were returned when they said they would be returned and employees arrived at our home promptly. If you've delt with the amount of trandesmen that we have - this by itself is rare. Hassler Heating is profession, competent and pleasant to work with. They will be our go-to company for furutre HVAC repairs and updates.
Description of Work: This morning we discovered that we had an obstruction in our heading system. One of our kids removed a duct cover and thew some toys down the duct. My husband and I had no idea where the obstruction was. Even though this was somewhat of an odd ruequest, Andy and Carlos wasted no time in helping my husband track down the most logical place the obstruction could be. And to their credit, Andy and Carlos did not make us feel silly or careless or clueless. We have never worked with Hassler Heating before today, but they will be the first HVAC company we call in the future.

I shopped different heating service companies in the area. The one we used last time we had a furnace maintenance issue is no longer in business. I chose Hassler from among several that got good reviews on Angie's List and Yelp. I called Hassler and was immediately given an appointment the following day for between noon and 2 p.m. Derek, the technician assigned to the job, showed up at 1:30 and went right to work (which entailed going into our damp crawl space). He diagnosed the problem, a burned out pilot generator, very quickly, sized up what to do about it, and made the fix very promptly. In addition to working in the crawl space, Derek was required to work in very tight quarters to access the furnace--I've mucked around down there and I give him extra points for that. Derek also made sure I understood the price he'd be charging before he proceeded. As I said before, it struck me as being on the high side but fair given all the circumstances. Derek also inspected the heat exchanger in the furnace to insure it's still sound, explained that a cracked or broken heat exchanger can be a source of carbon monoxide gas, and inquired into whether we have a working CO monitor in the house (we do). All in all, I was satisfied with my experience with Hassler and would not hesitate to recommend the company or consider them for another job on our home.
Description of Work: The pilot generator on our floor furnace in an older Berkeley bungalow was shot and chose to quit during the coldest weekend of the season. I called Hassler based on reviews I saw here and on Yelp. The soonest they could make it out was the day after I called, but they kept their appointment promptly. Derek, the technician, did a great job with the repair, which required retrofitting the furnace with a newer-model pilot generator. The only factor with which I wasn't completely satisfied was price. The price was $115 for the service call plus $200 for the part (which looks like it cost somewhere between $25 and $50) and installation, which took about 90 minutes. That strikes me as a lot, but on the other hand I did not shop on price, did not compare what other vendors might charge, and was satisfied the fix got done immediately.

I wasn't around when Mike Hassler came by for the initial estimate, but my husband was here and really enjoyed meeting him and felt that Mike was very knowledgeable, patient, and answered all of his questions. Due to this interaction, we decided to go ahead with Hassler heating for our furnace replacement and new ductwork. Things didn't always go quite as smoothly after that. I think there was some miscommunication between offices or something. But often felt we were told one thing when it was meant to be something else. For instance, we were told that their subcontracted company would be in on a Friday to remove the asbestos and that the furnace guys would be in on Monday to start their work. When we called to schedule everything, we were then told that all the work would start on Monday and nobody needed to come on Friday. And then a day later, were told people would be coming on Friday at 2pm. So Friday came and my husband had taken the afternoon off of work to be here, at 3pm, there was still nobody here, but after we called to follow up, turns out the guys were just running late and ended up arriving around 5pm. They were done pretty quickly (within 2 hours) and left the area clean. Needless to say my husband was a little irritated, because he really didn't have to leave work as early as he did, but given that he really liked Mike, he got over it. The furnace guys were scheduled to start installation on Monday at 9am so my husband took the day off again. At around 8:45am he got a call from the office saying that the manager of our job had called in sick and so they wouldn't be able to start work on Monday. This really threw us off because we had a super tight schedule (having flooring guys coming in on Thursday after Hassler Heating told us they would be absolutely done by Wednesday) and so we were a little worried of having everything backed up. My husband did call and talked to Mike about the whole situation and given all the issues, Mike was nice enough to offer us a discount which I thought was very professional and helpful of him. At the end of hte day, he really did want us to be happy. Once the job started on Tuesday, everything seemed to go pretty smoothly. Jesse and another worked came to install the furnace and ductwork. They were both fine and everything was pretty much done by Wednesday, though they did have to come in Thursday morning too to finish up some stuff that needed to be done inside the house. They couldn't get teh inspection scheduled for the last day (I forget why) and that we would schedule something when we were back from our trip (my husband and I were scheduled to go out NJ the following week). While in NJ, I contacted Mike to see if it would be ok if we paid our invoice when we got back to CA, and Mike asked that we pay half the invoice until the inspection was complete. Fair enough. My understanding was that the inspection would be scheduled when we returned from NJ. That ended up getting delayed because we were stranded in NJ due to hurricane Sandy, but when we got back, we paid the entire discounted invoice in full even though the inspection had not yet been completed. I felt bad because we were late with our half payment and so paid it all in full. However, when we returned from NJ, we had to move out of our old place and into the house and the first night we slept there, the house was freezing because the furnace didn't work!! THe next morning I called Mike to let him know (even though it was the weekend) and he was really responsive about getting someone out to take a look. Turns out something got switched off or something, so it was a quick fix and everything was fine. Anyhow, we also scheduled the inspection but then when that day rolled around it needed to be rescheduled because the guy called in sick. And that was the last we heard from Hassler Heating for awhile. Earlier last week, it all of a sudden dawned on me that we never had the inspection done and so we sent Mike Hassler an email to follow up. Jesse did respond back to my husband and scheduled the inspection which we just had completed yesterday (12/20/12). So it's been about two months since all of this started and it's nice that everything is now done, working fine, and everything is checked off on. I guess based on all the amazing reviews, I was expecting things to go a little more smoothly, but I imagine it could have been a lot worse. Although their were a lot of issues that seemed to happen along the way, I do appreciate their willingness and ability to handle all the issues that came up. And whenever the guys were here and working they were great and I would be happy to work with them again. It was more just trying to get everyone here when they said they would be!

To my delight, Mike arrived 15 minutes early. The solution to the problem with my old furnace wasn't immediately obvious to him, so he took his time going through all the possibilities. In the end, it's clear he knew what he was doing and (it appears! though time will tell...) he may have solved the problem. If not, he has a definite plan for what the next step will be. My experience with this company has been 100% positive.
Description of Work: The fan on my furnace would continue humming -- endlessly -- even when the furnace was off. I can't say exactly what Mike did, but after eliminating all the other possibilities as to what was causing this to happen, he figured out what to do, and did it.

Overall, very, very satisfied. It was expensive, but I got the best system available - and I (and my family) couldn't be happier. Well done, Mike.
Description of Work: It was about time for a new furnace. The previous system was almost 20 years old, but still functioning. However, I just bought my home, and this was clearly one of the main systems in the house that needed updating. Plus, it was long past due to have the asbestos ducting removed (~1950's home). Everything done by Hassler Heating was at a high level of expertise and professionalism. They subcontracted out the asbestos removal to Synergy, and it was done on time, with minimal disruption to my family or lifestyle. They were clearly experienced and proficient at such work. Team Hassler then entered and proceeded to install a fantastic 3-zone Carrier Infinity system that I could not be happier with. It will undoubtedly save me quite a bit of money - mostly due to the zoning control, the variable fan, and the 97.6% efficiency of the system. But beyond that, I also feel as if I have MUCH better control over temperature in various areas of my house, as opposed to simply blasting hot air through all the vents - which surely will save some money in both the short and long runs. I can say that it is a very quiet system that keeps the house incredibly comfortable. Honestly, it is so quiet that I usually don't know if it's heating or not! But if ever I do want a bit more warmth beyond what the awesome Carrier thermostat interface already controls, I simply tap the button (or control the system wirelessly from my phone), and within a few minutes, voila! The team was very amenable to my own desires in terms of duct routing, heater location, drain location, etc. It seemed as if they genuinely cared about fitting the system to my house, so that it would be both functional and non-obtrusive (as much as a furnace and ducting can be in the basement of a house). In the end it took an extra day - but quality work takes time, as the saying goes. And I'd much rather take an extra day to do it properly, than to rush the install. Really satisfied with both the system and Hassler Heating for a job well done. I would recommend them to anyone needing heating or AC services.

We could not be happier about our experience with Hassler Heating. We bought a house with HVAC problems. The crawl space in the house was so close to the ground that the plenum was in the dirt and rusted. The drainage problem the house had made it muddy and miserable in the crawl space. Some of the ductwork was crushed and there was no insulation on the segments under the house. The overpowered gas furnace was at the end of its life, as was the air conditioning system. Finally, there was asbestos tape around the boots in the floor. One of the firms we brought out for a quotation on the job was Hassler Heating. Mike Hassler is very knowledgeable with many years of experience. He really spent a lot of time to figure out the best solution for our HVAC system in our house. He very creatively positioned the system so that it would have better future access and tried to preserve components of the existing system where possible. He recommended a zoned system because of the very different heating and cooling needs of our upstairs and downstairs. His team came on the scheduled day and completed the work even slightly faster than they had promised. They subcontracted some of the work, like the asbestos removal, but mostly the work was done by the Hassler team. They were very friendly and we enjoyed having them around the house. Jesse, who was in charge at the site, really helped us when he pointed out a plumbing leak under the house. We were able to get the leak fixed when they removed the furnace and access was excellent. In the end we got a pleasant surprise. They had made enough room to include a third zone, enabling us to split control of the downstairs into a space we use more and a lesser used space. Hassler didn't charge us anything for the extra zone! We've had the system for a couple of months and the house climate is really comfortable. We have noticed a huge difference on the energy bills. Mike Hassler has been very available for questions we've had about the system. We feel we got an excellent quality system and workmanship from a company with the utmost integrity.

Heater stopped working. Called company and got appointment the next day. A replacement part which had to be ordered was needed to fix the problem. I was promised to be called back once the part had been ordered which was planned for the same day. I was promised to get a call back either the same or the following day. I never got the call during the promised time and had to follow up myself, but had some problems getting someone on the phone. It took longer for the replacement part to arrive as originally planned, but once installed the problem was fixed. The service itself was very good and the service person was very dedicated and friendly. The only problem I had was that the company did not follow up and let me know that the ordering was problematic and took longer than anticipated.

I contacted the company and they were able to send a technician within a day. We thought we had the problem fixed then the heater failed to re-light the following day. When I called Mike back to report this he wanted to send someone immediately. We, instead, scheduled an appointment for a Saturday morning and this time the valve was cleaned more thoroughly and has now worked for over a week. Although the fix did require two trips, I appreciate that the goal was the 'least expensive solution' and although I was willing to replace a thermostat that was less than a year old with a more expensive model, we kept the job costs down.
Description of Work: We attempted to repair an old heater valve, but it now looks like it needs replacing. Of course it failed on Christmas Eve. We had a miscommunication which resulted in my calling another company. Immediately the other company wanted to 'railroad' me into an expensive repair or replacement (I won't mention them here) without even looking at the heater. I called Mike back and we have an appointment set. I remain very appreciative that they are willing to work on old floor heaters at reasonable rates.
