West Coast Heating Air Conditioning and Solar

After doing much research on HVAC companies, we chose to go with West Coast and could not have been happier. We definitely made the right choice! The guys that came to install our new duct work and perform other necessary work were terrific. They did a fantastic job and were so professional and friendly. Truly awesome from the minute they arrived until the job was done. They were outstanding and true pros. And in this day and age, that is often hard to come by! We'd also like to thank Mike for his expertise and Frances for the emails and follow-up phone calls to ensure everything was on track. It gave us peace of mind knowing that we were being well taken care of. All in all it was an excellent experience. We will highly recommend West Coast to everyone we know.

Did not inform me of a 2 day cancellation policy from time deposit was received. I went ahead and found someone else to do the job. West Coast was very "difficult" about refunding my deposit. The other person fixed the problem in 2 hours for $80 - saving me $4480!!

Expert installation and no problems. Performed very quickly and cleaned up mess when finiahed. Systems workd perfectly.

I called West Coast yesterday morning (7/29/14) to find out if they had a technician available to come out to diagnose why the air conditioner in our rental condo was not blowing cold air. We had used this company 3 years ago to do a small repair on the a/c unit and were very happy with them. Of course with the heat wave San Diego is experiencing right now, the earliest they could come out was today (7/30/14) between 4-6. Sandra was very helpful, even trying to set us up with a sudden cancellation yesterday afternoon, which didn't end up working out. This afternoon around 1pm I got a call from the technician, Sal. He was running ahead of schedule and had a cancellation and wondered if we would like him to come earlier than our scheduled appt time frame. He showed up within about 20 minutes. First he looked at the thermostat, then the circuit breaker panel. Even though I didn't see anything wrong with the circuit panel, he pushed the breaker off, then back on. Almost immediately, I could feel the air was a little cooler coming out of the vents in the living room. He then grabbed his ladder and went onto the roof to take a look at the air conditioner. After his inspection, he came down and said that everything looked fine with the unit itself and it appeared that it was just the circuit was tripped. It wasn't noticeable to us because 3 different circuits are "connected" on the board. Sal was very pleasant and professional and I will definitely use West Coast Appliance Services in the future. 9

I was satisfied with the job. They were on time and everything was just fine. They were very reasonably priced. Every other company I called were higher in price.

I could not be happier with the professionalism and service I received from West Coast. Mike was my sales representative. His proposal was easy to understand and was competitively priced. He took the time to answer all my questions. My installation supervisor was Tony. He and his crew are professional and have attention to detail.

This company doesn't stand behind it's work. The solar panels were installed a few years ago and we had leaks right off the bat. The company came out and did something to stop the leaks at the time but this year we finally had our first big rain storm. We had water leaking through the roof into our living room in three places. All the leaks were in line directly underneath the solar panels. West Coast Solar inspected the leaky roof and told us it wasn't their fault. We've lived in this house for 25 years and never had a leak before we installed solar panels. During the installation I watched nails come through into the living from the roof. West Coast Solar told us the leaks aren't their fault and we should have the repairs done ourselves.

Everything went real well, sales end, all the pre-stuff, it’s just one these cases where unfortunately before, once you get signed up once they get your money, you kind of pulled in the back burner. We signed late September, early October for solar thing, you know, the permits are required and we understand it takes times so they promised it would be put in December something, finally ended January once we called and really kind of wondering how come no one called us. They got out here on February, it’s just kind of felt that once we did the sales, we kind of forgotten about. I think that they are quite busy and it’s there thing to get sales but we are a little bit disappointed. Everything is up and running, it works great. We have a couple of issues; they came back and take care of everything so overall we don’t have big issue with them at all.

The tech was very helpful. He explained everything in detail and helped resolve problems others had not been able to fix.

I decided to look into Solar a few months ago after some neighbors mentioned that the costs have come down quite a bit. I got around 10 different quotes from different vendors (some were Solar Lease options and some were for Purchase). After doing a lot of research - including looking at the publicly available CSI Rebate data and getting my home's average monthly electric kwh usage over the last few years - I was able to make some informed decisions. I ruled out Solar leases pretty quickly for various reasons and decided to purchase a system. Of the many quotes I received from various solar companies, West Coast Solar was one of the most reasonably priced at $3.40/per installed watt. On the high end I was quoted $5.50/per installed watt (for inferior panels and inverter)...so as a consumer I realized that there are a lot of companies out there trying to maximize their profits and not necessarily trying to provide what's best for the customer. The system that West Coast suggested would cover 80 to 85% of my average use, leaving the balance always in the cheap SDGE Tier-1 pricing (currently .15 per kwh). Some other reasons why I went with West Coast were because they have been in business for a long time (their primary business is HVAC), have their own dedicated staff and equipment (no sub-contractors), they don't try to put sales pressure on you like some other companies, they have done several hundred solar installs that I could see via the CSI info, and I really liked the SolarEdge/LG combination compared to other equipment because of the efficiency and panel-level monitoring capabilities. After signing the contract they handled all paperwork and permits, and were at my house doing the install around 5 weeks later! The installer crew was great! It took them three days to do the install. They were able to work around some tricky roof dormers to get the panels installed without any additional cost or delays. They were all well mannered, courteous, and performed a very clean installation. So far there have only been two rains since the install, but no leaks resulting from the work. The city inspector told me that the install was way above average - which is good to hear considering how many installs he sees every week! Around 3 weeks after the installation I got the okay to activate the system. From contract signing to turn on was only two months. West Coast's time estimates were much more conservative (3 months), so maybe I got lucky with the timing. The office staff at West Coast has also been great. They handled all the scheduling, the paperwork for the state rebate (CSI), and kept me informed and updated throughout the whole process. The first few months of solar production have been 20% greater than the PVWatts calculator estimate, and around 10 to 15% greater than West Coast's own estimate. I think most solar installers are very conservative when they size PV systems, but regardless, I am very satisfied. It also helps that my house has a 175 azimuth and with no shading issues. I'll be getting my tax refund soon that includes the 30% tax credit for the system! Along with the state rebate my final price per installed watt drops to $2.19. For my situation, my calculated payback is only 4.5 years. The LG panels have a 25 year performance warranty, so going solar in my case was a no-brainer. They earned their A grade with the work they did for me, and I would recommend them to anyone who is in the market to install a PV system.

The A/C fan motor stopped working on a Thursday night during a bad heat wave in San Diego. I called around on Friday and almost everybody was booked, but West Coast came to the rescue with a Saturday opening! They promised a 9:00am - 1:00pm show time, and the guy arrived around 12:30 or so. He was courteous, fast, and quickly found the problem: a bad starting capacitor. He had a spare in his truck, and had the motor up and running again in about 15 minutes. Will definitely call them again the next time I need any work done!

Mike, the sales man gave us a reasonable quote for a brand new air conditioner installation, duct work and electrical. We took the deal and I told him I did not want any surprises that would raise up the price. He said there would not be any and if they are the company would take care of it. he said "thats why im here inspecting and quoting you". The installation went well. The workers where professional and kept the house clean. The only thing is that they kept on leaving the wide door open after I told them to close it. So on the last day of installation they noticed that the electrical panel was not setup for 220. After speaking with Mike he kept his word and he send his electrician to fix the issue at NO CHARGE. The electrical work took almost 3 weeks to be completed but it was not their fault. SDGE had to get involve to turn off power to the meter and they took a long time to schedule us in. Work passed city inspection and HERS testing. A/C works good, they even came back to balance airflow around the house.

My experience overall went very well. The pricing was very reasonable and the job they did was great. They were very professional, thorough and knowledgeable. They completed the entire job in one day with a crew of four people. They were also very tidy and made sure to clean up after themselves when they were finished.

I met with the owner and negotiated a price and he had the unit installed in three days. It was cold and I needed the unit quickly and he came through. The job went flawless and the crew came to work on time. The system works perfectly and have had no problems.

Overall it went really well. We started this discussion with West Coast last fall, and got bids from two other Angie's List vendors. West Coast offered a more competitive price than the others, and I felt comfortable working with Mike, the main sales guy. Just after getting the estimate from them last fall, I was unexpectedly let go from my company. They were very understanding and allowed us to split out the work in phases at no additional charge. We had them replace the duct work first (so we could add insulation before winter). Later once I was back to work we had them back to finish out the other components. On the first install, they replaced the duct work and then when I asked them to come back out to investigate why the airflow was poor. They tuned up our ancient furnace at no charge to get us through the winter. Very nice! On the second install they got the A/C, furnace and water heater all installed over one long day. The one negative of the experience was that on the next night after the install, we heard a steady dripping from the closet with the water heater. It turns out one of their connectors to the water heater was faulty, so we had to go without hot water that night. But I called the next morning, a Saturday, and explained what had happened. The owner, Alex, came out himself within 2 hours of my call and fixed the problem himself in about an hour and a half, including a trip to Home Depot. So not flawless work but a nice recovery. To me, West Coast represents the right balance of quality, value, and customer service.

I thought it was very nice that they didn't charge a lot of money to come all the way out to Alpine. The technician was very nice, but then he said something that was somewhat dishonest. The technician told me that the water didn't work on my ice maker because there wasn't a filter so the water couldn't get to it. Once I realized that the lock on my ice maker was on making the water not work, I called them back and they said they would come out without charging me a second service fee, however he still maintained that the water on the ice maker needed to be replaced. I am hoping to get a second opinion because I'd rather not spend $250.00 to have the ice maker replaced.

They end result was just fine. The installation was nicely done without any problems. They did it very neatly. They tried to do everything in one day. One problem was that they didn’t install the correct thermostat. I called the guy I worked with and they sent someone out and they fixed everything and it works fine. They did exactly what I wanted them to do in the end. The price was good and everyone I worked with was neat, efficient and courteous.

West Coast provided everything they said they would. The installers were hard working and courteous. The job was large and required 3 days to complete. It was done in an efficient manner. They knew what they were doing. Very satisfied.

My experience with West Coast was excellent. The service was excellent and the workmanship was on time and very efficient. Mike does a very good job of explaining everything. I would recommend West Coast to everyone.

We just had a new Air Conditioner and Heater installed. Everyone from the installers to the sales representative were very professional, friendly, knowledgeable about the Trane product, etc. The rep , Mike Anderson, came out and checked everything to make sure all was hooked up correctly and took pictures. He answered all our questions. The installers worked very hard and cleaned up everything adequately. We would recommend this company highly.

My wife and I were very pleased with the manner in which the three installers conducted themselves. They arrived promptly as scheduled and set about their job at once. It was obvious that they were skilled and experienced and professional. The project manager arrived a day or so following the completion of the work to check with me to see if we had any questions and he went over the operation of the thermostat in the hall with me. Everything seems to be operating as it should and we will not hesitate to recommendyour company.

We made an appt for an inspection for Friday and we did not get any calls or messages to say they were lost or couldn't make the appt. I called and rescheduled for Monday and again, no call and no service. As far as our experience, this service company did not perform. First impressions are important and this company failed on that effort.

My washer is of a different variety and when Gary looked at it, he said he doesn’t know, as the company had stopped manufacturing the part I required. He offered to look into the van and found the required part, but if it was someone else they would have given it up. I found them from Angies List and I chose them as they appeared to be physically the closest. When I called them, they came the very same day and I told him the whole problem. He looked at it, told that he could do, gave me a quote and got it started. It was really pleasant and then I paid him. I will use him again in the future and will recommend him to anybody; infact I am in the process of selling my home and gave left this information for the new owner. I also looked in the review site and the other people had the same to say about him, that he is responsive and took care of it right away, as well as said the same thing what I said.
