asbestos removal
 + -1 moreThe company was prompt in getting back to us and did the work in the scheduled amount of time. They caused a lot of damage to the walls, paint and drywall of the house. Additionally, the crew left my bathroom in a disgraceful state. They were not professional and I would not use their services again.
Description of Work: We contracted PW Stephens to remove the asbestos popcorn ceiling in our newly purchased 1961 ranch house. They offered us the best price for the work, $2500 for just over 1000 square feet of removal. They were also able to fit us in the week between Christmas and New Year's so that we could move into the house in a tight time frame. Other than those two things the work was terrible and the company was unprofessional. First, they didn't contact us about how they were supposed to get the crew into the house on the day they were starting, so we had to go to the house and wait for them to show up. Second, they definitely should have sent someone out in advance for the estimate of the work because it appears as though they bit off more than they could chew, even though we described the job in great detail to them. I was upset with the quality of work because they incurred a serious amount of damage to the walls - water marks and destroyed paint all the way down 11ft walls and additionally broke through the drywall in a section of decorative ceiling. Beyond that the crew was disgusting, they clogged our bathroom toilet, did not inform us of this and left it with a note that said, "sorry for the mess." I can't even begin to describe what an utterly disgusting state it was left in. I was absolutely appalled by the fact that I wasn't contacted by the office regarding this problem and that the crew didn't bother to tell us either. In the end we were compensated by the company for a plumber to fix the toilet, but the overall lack of professionalism made me sure that I would never use them again.

asbestos removal
 + -1 moreOriginal tiles on the cement slab (50 yrs old?) were found to contain asbestos. PW Stephens did the removal as arranged by the general contractor. They did the work in one day and it was pretty easy. The only thing they could improve on is responsiveness. I was told they were originally going to do the work a couple days earlier (there were lots of parties involved in this project, so it may not have been their fault that I was told this) and when I called to clarify, no one answered or returned my call. Generally, I had to initiate any contact with them. This was not a big problem but it would have been helpful for them to contact us and let us know what was going on. Also, they did leave some tape on the ceiling and some black residue on the wall. Otherwise, they did a great job.
Description of Work: Removed old floor tiles with asbestos in them.

asbestos removal
 + -1 moreAll went well. The job was done in approx 1/2 day. I had to push back the start date three times to coordinate with some remodeling work I was having done at the same time and the company was very accommodating.
Description of Work: Removed and disposed of asbestos ceiling popcorn in four bedrooms and hall.(approx 625sq feet)

air duct cleaning
 + -1 moreP.W. STEPHENS ARRIVED ON TIME AND TOOK ALL THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS IN SETTING UP CONTAINMENT, AS NOT TO HAVE ANY ASBESTOS FIBERS ESCAPE INTO THE HOUSE. THEY DID ALL THE WORK AHEAD OF TIME AND ON TIME BEFORE THE INSTALLATION OF THE AIR CONDITIONER COULD TAKE PLACE THE NEXT DAY. THEY ALSO HAULED THE ASBESTOS AIR DUCT WORK TO A SPECIAL LAND FILL THAT IS MADE FOR THIS. THEY WERE PROFESSIONAL AND DID THE WORK PROMPTLY AND ACCURATELY.
Description of Work: ABATE AND DISPOSE OF ASBESTOS CONTAINING DUCT WORK INSULATION AND DUCT WORK FROM THE PLENUM TO THE REGISTER BOOTS. THE REGISTER BOOTS WILL BE STRIPPED AND BRIDGE ENCAPSULATED IN PLACE.
