+ -1 moreA leak in my garage ceiling started Saturday morning and continued all weekend. I checked Angies List and selected Walter Anderson Plumbing. I called in Sunday hoping to leave a message for an early response Monday morning. I was surprised to get a real human voice on a Sunday. Early Monday morning Brittany called and said she would have a plumber out between 9-11 time frame. An hour later she called and said Kyle would be here in 30 minutes. He arrived 15 minutes later, quickly diagnosed the problem as emanating from the bathtub in the MBR. He asked for my Angies coupon and sawed into the dry wall ceiling immediately seeing the problem being a leaking bathtub drain behind the ceiling. Fixed by noon. This outfit, Walter Anderson Plumbing is totally professional from start to finish. Exceeded expectations by half again. In this day and age I am just amazed by their customer focus. Excellent experience. Best ever.
Description of Work: A dripping drain in the pipe from the bathtub MBR leaked through to the ceiling of the garage below. Kyle had all the needed parts and tools on his truck and repaired immediately. Job completed by noon for under $500 including new faucet and fixtures for the tub. I was so delighted that while I had him here I had him do other plumbing jobs I had been putting off in this 1982 built house: New fixture replaced dripping fixture in laundry room; new water pressure regulator installed on main line; new stem on a dripping faucet in guest room bath; fixed drips in my MBR shower.

+ -1 moreOverall, it was a very pleasant experience. I called first for a slab leak. They sent someone to check it out within an hour! After confirming the leak, a leak detection was scheduled for the following day. After locating the leak we decided to have the piping re-routed above ground (rather than tear up the floor & rebury the pipes). Since walls were being opened, we decided to have the entire house repiped. The company representative worked to minimize the cost and waived the cost for the initial service call & leak detection (approx. $350) since we were contracting with them. The entire process took approximately 10 working days (including the extra day for the city inspector; 5 days for plumbing & 4 days for drywall/painting). The plumber came back after everything was completed to install a recirculation pump (a piece of the part installed at the faucet was broken upon arrival, so a new part was ordered & installation was completed later).
Description of Work: Entire House Copper Re-pipe for a 2500 square foot 2 story home with 3 full baths (double sinks in 2), kitchen and laundry room. The work included opening the walls, re-routing copper pipes, attaching new flex fittings to all outlets (sink faucets, toilet, ice maker, etc.), drywalling, and painting. All permitting and work was scheduled through Walter Anderson (they have in house contractors for all the steps involved).

drain cleaning
+ -1 moreAfter calling for an evaluation, the plumbers arrived within an hour as promised. I had already cut a hole and determined the cause of the water damage to the wall (a leaking drain pipe). Fernando extended the cut to the ceiling and opened a section in the wall behind the dishwasher upstairs quickly determining the extent of the crack. I had to encourage him to extend the cut all the way to the bedroom floor in case there were more cracks in the pipe, which there were. After a trip to Home Depot for parts, they removed the old pipe and placed the new pipe and fittings. The quality of the work was excellent. Unfortunately, insufficient care was used in moving the dishwasher resulting in damage to the hardwood floor in front of it. The workers were very professional and generally careful. With about four hours involved, including the trip to Home Depot, the cost works out to nearly $150/hr labor, which I think is probably at the high end of repair costs.
Description of Work: Replaced an 8 foot section of cracked ABS 2 1/2 drain pipe and a Y fitting extending from the second floor kitchen to the foundation and located inside a first floor bedroom wall. This involved determining the extent of the defect in the pipe by cutting through the drywall, pulling out the dishwasher and reinstalling it, and removing and replacing the pipe and fittings.

water heater repair
+ -1 moreWe needed a water heater installed at our rental house. The water heater was leaking and it was Sunday evening, so it was a difficult time. I called a few people from Angies list to get estimates. The estimates were about $900 - $1000. Walter Anderson had a discount for Angies list and was available right away so I chose them. They were very nice on the phone, and did come change the water heater right away. I was a bit unhappy with the pricing, because after he came to the house, the price went up about $250 dollars which I dont quite understand. We had given all the information about the heater already, so it was a little fishy for the price to go up so much. Also, they would not give me the Angies list discount - they said because it was outside of normal working hours. I think they did a good job of installing the heater, Ive not had any complaints. They were nice on the phone and did get the heater installed right away.

+ -1 moreTerrific. Walter Anderson gave the most competitive quote for a difficult repipe. Our 1950s home, in San Carlos, isnt built like a 1980s "tract" home in North County, where Walter Anderson does alot of their polybutene repipe replacements. The other plumbing outfits (TLC, Larry Hudson, Benjamin Franklin) either wanted to run the pipe on the exterior of the house or charge considerably more, almost double, for the harder task of running new pipe through the walls to the fixtures. The repipe crew and the drywall crew were experts. Walter Anderson has a repipe manager who keeps the project moving along and is the responsive customer liaison when issues come up. Customer satisfaction is their goal, and they work hard at it. Walter Anderson for the repipe was recommended to me by two other people I knew who had them repipe their homes, so I wasnt going in blind. Their "A" rating on Angies List is the real deal.
Description of Work: Repipe for one story 1200 square feet 1950s home(slab leak). Two new shower valves. New pressure regulator. Hot water heater flush. Duct work and venting for clothes dryer.

+ -1 moreIt did not go great, but I think our story speaks highly of Walter Anderson and their commitment to their clients. The plumber made a mistake when he rebuilt the toilet, and it leaked all over our hardwood floors. Stuff happens, even to the best of companies. We ended up dealing with Mary Jean Anderson, the President of the company. They immediately send out a team to dry out the floor, and when that didnt work, they replaced the entire floor and the moulding. The new moulding scarred the custom Tromploeil paint in the bathroom. Walter Anderson sent out a highly qualified painter/artist and repainted the entire bathroom. It was very expensive and time consuming for Walter Anderson Plumbing to make all of the necessary repairs. They checked in with us every time a task was completed, to make sure we were happy. Despite all of the inconvenience, we will be lifetime customers.
Description of Work: Rebuild a toilet in our guest bathroom.

+ -1 moreAs prior note indicated all work left us sad to have contracted with company. Worker was pleasant enough. All work related materials were left on our front porch. We called the company and were assured that someone world be by within the hour to pick up same. This note is being written three hours later. We have placed all materials for safe keeping in our locked garage. (We felt responsible to see that tools were not stolen, or trashed.) We were embarrassed. Our dinner guest was embarrassed. We had been promised that someone would be by to pick up the tools in one (1) hours time. Rep left before 5:00PM. This note is after a call for alerting company to trouble at about 5:00PM; AND the note is being written after 8:00PM. I dont want to be troubled to stay up all night waiting for this companys Rep to come whenever they are able, and I dont want all of his tools to be stolen. Should I have not vouched safe for all their tools? Should I have not called to let them know?
Description of Work: Diagnosed more trouble than we expected. Came, saw, suggested, did work, left and left a mess.

+ -1 moreBased on the reviews on Angies List, I called Walter Anderson regarding a leak under the kitchen sink. They were very pleasant on the phone (before, during, and after the work was done). I received an appointment at the time I asked for and received a call before each visit, letting me know when to expect the plumber. Unfortunately, the plumber did not have the replacement the first time he came out, but he easily accommodated my schedule with his return visit. Everything was done professionally and, when the hot/cold faucet started leaking after the install of the hot water dispenser, the plumber spent a significant amount of time trying to identify the cause even though he had not touched the faucet during the install. Despite a few unexpected turns in the process, Walter Anderson handled everything very professionally and respectfully.
Description of Work: Leak identified and hot water dispenser replaced.

My husband called back the next day and complained, calling the price a rip-off. We were told we could speak with a customer service representative, but no one ever called.

+ -1 moreAt start of the job, they protected all floors and stairs. They cleaned after themselves everyday. They put all new piping in the house rerouting pipes in between floors and completely bypassing the slab. They used American made cooper pipes grade "L". Cosme and Jerry "the plumbers" did the repipe of 3 baths, kitchen and two hose bibs (13.5) units in 4 days. The drywall was done in another 4 days. They used rigids pipes when possible and flexible pipes when needed. This company did a good job with our repipe. The only thing that I did not like is that they left pipes exposed under the kitchen sink instead of putting them behind the wall as it was previously.
Description of Work: The work entail repipe of the entire house. We did quite a bit of research prior to hiring this company. We started by just looking to repipe the pipes under the slab (we had a slab leak). After learning more about the process we decided to do a complete job where all the pipes are taken out. Also, we looked for a company that would use grade "L" American made pipe since we believe the quality was better. We got bids from ARS, Albert, Master Serv and a local plumber. We found that we need to go with a company that does repipes every single day. Walter Anderson offered a bid of about $7800 for the work with a free Walkins regulator and a free recirculating pump (great feature) after a $500 rebate coupon since they did the work during the Christmas holidays. They also do spread out payments for 12 months interest free. Instead of the interest free payments they lowered the cost by 5% (which is the amount they pay a financial company to offer interest free program).

+ -1 moreDaniel Bell did the work and he was very careful about keeping the mess to a minimum. He put drop cloths down from the back door to the work area and in both rooms where he was working. He also warned us about the dust that would be caused by cutting a hole in the wall so we could cover the furniture and close adjacent doors. He is a hard worker and did a great job. We were also impressed that the work was done the same day we called.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the cast iron pipe under the sink and behind the wall in the bathroom. The work involved cutting a hole in the adjacent bedroom wall to access the problem, and then replacing the P trap and tee and dropping the pipe through the floor to underneath the house.

+ -1 moreThe crew who installed the new furnace and air conditioner, Ramon & his helpers, Richie & Juan, were excellent. They did their work quickly & efficiently. Because management had made a mistake, they had to come back and redo part of it. When they encountered problems, Ramon insisted on working late into the evening, rather than leaving the job unfinished. They carefully protected carpets & furnishings with tarps and plastic. They actually cleaned up after themselves, not perfectly, but better than any of the many other contractor crews I have had in my homes over the years. They were pleasant to have around and considerate of us. We were quite happy until we found the energy rating stickers (left lying outside). We were shocked to see that both furnace and A/C were at the lowest acceptable rating. Anderson reps explained that they had modified the furnace to make it more efficient. They replaced the A/C with a different, substantially more expensive model, at no extra charge.
Description of Work: We had used Walter Anderson Plumbing (now part of the Anderson Family of Companies) several times and had always been happy with them. The house we bought 4 yrs ago still had the old galvanized pipes running through the attic and needed complete re-plumbing with all new copper pipes. We took bids, then hired Anderson to do the job. We also had talked about replacing the cheap, inefficient, inadequate furnace the previous owners had installed and adding air conditioning. Anderson had recently purchased One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating (a Maytag company) and offered us a discount if we had that done at the same time as the re-plumbing. We agreed, and I think it was a good decision. The only problem was that there wasn't enough communication about the units to be installed. We normally research things ourselves. In this case, we simply told the Anderson rep that we wanted our furnace and A/C to be as quiet and as energy efficient as possible. They selected models without consulting us.
