They did a fine job. The gentleman who came to my home had just finished his formal training, but he was as polite as could be. It was really refreshing to work with a young man who was so honest and professional. Also, I found their office staff to be equally as professional and helpful.

The appointment was easy to schedule, everyone was friendly, they showed up on time. The inspection was thorough and informative, but the propose prices were outrageous, The water heater replacement was more than double what I ended up paying for the same product. The replacement cost for the garbage disposal was about double than what I paid for a better product. So be aware of that and have your pricing guide (google) ready before you authorize any work, but otherwise they seem to be fine.
Description of Work: I had them only do an inspection, but did not order the work due to sky high pricing.

Their responsiveness was good, and they came out quickly, but they were about two hours late for the appointment, which was not good. I ended up not using them because I felt that there was something, although I am not able to put my finger on it; I went with a different company. Their estimated price was $4200. I don’t think I would go with them for another quote or for work.

Called and the service tech arrived and said they have up front pricing. If anyone has done business w/Anderson, you know what I'm talking about. Minimum to clear the drain was $223. I said ok. We need to have it fixed. I had just had surgery on my leg and couldn't try to do it myself. After a few minutes, the tech had no success clearing the drain. Then he said he had to cut the drywall to get to the pipe to cut the pipe and clear the drain, but the price was climbing. Way up! I had a few words with him, and we even talked about a whole new bathtub install. Luckily my wife talked some sense into me and we agreed to just get the drain cleared. The price, $757 plus a $99 "Drain Special". After all was said and done, he cleared the drain and left a hole in the drywall explaining to me that they do not patch up drywalls, just make the holes. Ok $856 later, we can take showers now but I don't feel right about hiring Anderson for the job. If anyone has any suggestions for me, feel free to let me know. Thanks.
Description of Work: According to the service tech, 2" cleanout, 3/8"-1/2" cable to clear the drain for both our showers/tub because it had a clog and water would not drain.

The issue is not resolved yet--months after installation.
Description of Work: I had to replace a leaking water heater. Anderson's man came and did the work, adding all sorts of new pipes to go with my standard 50 gallon heater. I was charged $1641.00 for that. At the same time the sales/tech person sold me on a flow-tech inline "water softener alternative that uses the latest technology" to reduce the scale build-up in the plumbing system. I let him install it right then, because he said it would be very difficult to install once he replaced the water heater. He charged another $1500 for the water softener that IS NOT A WATER SOFTENER. I waited two months for an inspector and stayed in touch with Kyle at Anderson's. Still no one has been able to come test my water to see if there are any beneficial properties of the system. I see no change and still taste a mildew taste that began after the flow tech was installed. It was supposed to go away in a few days according to the sales/tech person. I am still waiting for Kyle to come test the water and inspect the work done. I will not pay for the flow tech until I am satisfied that what I was sold as a water softening alternative (on the brochure and in the sales pitch) is actually having the promised effect. Does anyone have any knowledge about the flow tech inline water system?

They are really good, and I am really satisfied with them. They really try hard to make me happy; when they answer the phone, they say “How may I make you smile?” They are punctual. They called and let me know when the person was coming and everything. They did not keep me in the dark but really stayed on top in terms of when I would get my service call. The guy that came out was very polite, helpful and very professional. He explained everything. Everything has been holding up fine so far. I know plumbing is expensive, but they were reasonable for a plumber. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

The fireplace was already set up with a gas log set up by the previous owner. For unknown reasons, the previous owner disconnected the gas supply line that ran from the furnace to the gas log set. The gas supply pipes in the fireplace were still in place. The in-line gas valve outside the fire box was still in place. The original gas supply pipe ran from the first floor fireplace into the full height basement underneath the fireplace room, where the pipe had been capped off. 12 feet away is the gas furnace (new in 2009, so the gas supply pipe to the furnace was new in 2009). The supply pipe to the furnace in out in clear view and has no obstructions of any kind. The basement is full of day light, has a full size entry door, and is about 15 foot by 15 foot. The ceiling is unfinished - complete access to the space between the floor joists. You can stand in the middle of the room and almost touch the furnace gas pipe with one hand and almost touch the capped end of the supply pipe to the gas log set. It was a "dream job" it was so easy to do. The worker first spent an hour figuring out what to do. The plan was easy: install a T fitting in the supply pipe to the furnace, install a shut off valve, run a 12 foot flex gas line, take the cap off the pipe to the fireplace upstairs, attach the new flex line. Done. That took the worker an hour to figure out. Part of the process was to call the office to find out what to charge. Apparently the people out in the field aren't allowed to provide an estimate - someone sitting in an office in El Cajon, who has never see the job site, decides what to charge. The estimate was $1,800. Yep, $1,800. I was not at home but my partner decided to approve the job and it was done. After the one hour "consult", the workers went away for lunch and to pick up parts - they returned and took four more hours to complete the job. The workers were excellent (probably embarrassed by the price they had to quote, but they didn't say anything) and the job appears to have been well done. They (the plumber and a student plumber) were polite, professional, respectful of my property. Not unlike any other professional trade person I have hired in the past. That night I continued to digest the high price tag. If I paid the workers $200 an hour for the five hours invested (=$1,000), that meant I paid $800 for a 12 foot gas pipe and one shut off valve. If it ends up I paid less than $800 for parts, then I paid more than $200 an hour for labor. The next morning I called Anderson Plumbing and said I wanted to talk to someone about how the $1,800 was determined for my job. I was told "we have to exam the invoice and will call you back". Later a message was left that Kelly (Anderson) would be calling. Instead of a call - which would have allowed me the opportunity to ask questions, etc. - I received a two page letter from Kelly Anderson, Office Manager. It was the rudest, most presumptuous and poorly written letter from a business I have ever received. In the two pages, my issue of "how did my specific job come to $1,800?" was never addressed. Instead, Kelly informed me that I was "dismayed" and "upset" about the price, yet I never said anything about my emotional state to anyone at Anderson. Kelly informed me that Anderson Plumbing was expensive and they would make no apologies about that. In fact, Kelly went on to tell me, Anderson Plumbing cost more because they drug test their employees and if I used some other company, I ran the risk of having my home robbed after the fact by the drug using workers of other cheaper companies - Kelly writes: "please do not scoff; this is a very real problem in our industry". Kelly then lectured me on the purpose of "free enterprize." Kelly told me I would be upset to pay for a steak in an expensive steak house only to learn that is would be cheaper in a less quality restaurant. Kelly suggested that Anderson Plumbing provided a better product, like a good steak I guess. Kelly lectured me about the cost of doing business and how they are told every quarter by the company accountant how much to charge the customers. The list of things that cost Anderson Plumbing to do their business was so extensive, that I was surprised I didn't see a charge to customers for the cost of wear and tear on the plastic light switches used to turn on the office lights in the morning. Kelly says that their costs "are based on our costs and only our costs", but then goes on to say that she feels it is "fair" that Anderson Plumbing realizes a 10% profit on every dollar. Kelly needs to learn that "cost" and "profit" are not the same thing but they both effect the bottom line cost to the customer. Toward the closing the end of the letter, Kelly says "even thought it may be counter intuitive, we owe it to our customers to be priced correctly." Counter intuitive? I offer this long example of my contact with Anderson Plumbing to reveal my experience with attempting to address a concern. Instead of talking with me about it, I was sent a form letter telling me that my concerns were not as important as theirs and I should be happy I paid their extra high costs. I read some of the "company response" to other complaints on Angies List. The president, Mary Jean Anderson, says "we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. We will refund 100% of the cost if you are unhappy with the product or service" OK, Ms Anderson, I am very unhappy with the insulting service provided by your agent, Kelly Anderson. If you are true to your word, please refund my money. ADDENDUM: ADDED 10/01/11 - "Shortly after my original posting, I was contacted by the owner of Anderson Plumbing. The conversation went well. Ms. Anderson noted that the nature of my post has caused her to re-examine the operation of the business office of her company. Ms. Anderson expressed her thoughts and feelings and then solicited my thoughts and feelings. To the reader: I have no concern re: the professionalism or quality of the work provided - both were very good. My concern was not understanding the high cost vs. my job requirements and the initial disregard offered as a response to my concern. Ms. Anderson provided good "service recovery" in a personal and genuine manner. Although I still disagree with the company's expected reimbursement rates for a job such as mine, I am confident that Ms. Anderson would happily accept a telephone call to discuss a proposed "up front" job cost. I will change my ratings as follows: Overall : B - ultimately I was satisfied with the outcome but didn't like what it took to get there. Cost: still disagree, but will give it a C out of respect for what Ms. Anderson is trying to provide to the community. Quality: A for workmanship, F for initial response, A for service recovery. Responsiveness: F for initial response, A for Ms. Anderson's response. Punctuality: A for Ms. Anderson's reaching out to me. Professionalism: A for the work done, F for the initial response, A for Ms. Anderson's subsequent response. Advice for other members: I would consider hiring this company again - the actual work they do has been very good - but I would ramp up my due diligence regarding proposed costs."
Description of Work: First, I became aware of Anderson Plumbing in May 2011 when I had them install an earthquake shut off valve at my home using a special reduced price deal on-line. The worker was very professional and I was impressed. When time came to hook up a gas line to my gas logs in fireplace, I called Anderson Plumbing. I will never do that again. The work that was needed: run a 12 foot gas line and in-line shut off value from the gas furnace to the already installed gas line that serviced the gas logs in the fireplace. Once the line was installed, the worker pressure tested the entire installation, found one leak, replace an 90 degree pipe fitting, retested and found no leaks.

It did take longer than I expected because Jose had to do the second sink a second time. Plumbing always cost more than I think it should but he seemed very good at it. The coupon included a whole house check, which is why I had other repairs made. They offer "Up Front Pricing" so you are not surprised at the cost.
Description of Work: I had a Coupon or the cost would have been higher. He reinstalled 2 sinks that had been taken out when prefab granite put on new counter tops. One was not correctly placed so he had to redo that one, which did take a good amount of time. He also found that the laundry room shut offs(laundry bibs) were frozen, so I replaced them which was the major expense. He also replaced a "washer" (not sure exactly what it was) which stopped the faucet drip in another bathroom sink. He had lots of useful advice.

I would characterize their approach as minimalist but self-interested, similar to dealing with a used-car salesman. They were clearly more interested in finding a way to make a sale than to look carefully at the plumbing situation in my home. A month after they completed their "whole house inspection," I found that I had a serious issue with the sewer pipes under the house. Did the guys from Anderson even think of looking in the crawl space. Not a chance!
Description of Work: I signed up via Angie's List for a "Big Deal" for a "Whole House Plumbing Inspection & $100 Worth of Credit." The two plumbers who arrived made a perfunctory inspection. It was evident that their main mission was to find some easily discoverable plumbing issue for which could charge me, and then leave as soon as possible. They did not seem at all interested in any careful investigations of my concerns. They recommended a pressure regulator ("pressure reducing valve") for the house, and a valve assembly for a toilet. The estimate for the pressure reducing valve was $473, so I passed. I did have them install the toilet valve assembly, and the final cost was as above. I had the pressure reducing valve installed by another well-known and highly rated plumbing company on Angies list a week or so later for $325.

Response from Anderson Plumbing Heating & Air
When people sign up for Angie’s List they know that the business being reviewed will be able to identify them. I mention this because I really appreciate the opportunity to interact with our customers when they have had a good experience and, such as your case, when its been less than satisfactory. I gave you a call shortly after reading your review. To date I have not received a return call. I am hoping you will see my response and call me. First and foremost we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are unhappy with the product or service, we are more than happy to give you 100% of your money back. We have weekly trainings with our people. One of the main emphases is to make sure our customers receive exceptional value for the money spent. Based on your comments we failed in that respect. One of the ways we get better is by listening to feedback, talking with you personally…and then taking the necessary steps to address any issues. Our commitment to ethical and honest customer interaction is one of the cornerstones of our business. In fact in 2010 we won the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Ethical Business Practices. It is something I assure you I take very seriously. I really would like to talk with you. Please give me a call. Mary Jean Anderson.

They were great, they did the job. They weren’t the lowest price. But he came out and did everything he was supposed to, so I was pleased. The first time they were out, my water pressure went away. I called him and he came right back out and fixed it. They are very responsive, I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They put new valves on both my toilets. I had the valves already, so I didn't have to pay for those. They also checked for leaks throughout my whole yard, and they also installed a shut off valve and a pressure valve for me.

I received 3 quotes on the project and although Anderson was not the cheapest, I hired them as they were extremely professional and I liked their guarantee. The work was done as promised and very professionally. I would definitely use them again as I was extremely impressed with the technician, the cleanliness of the project, and the results have been outstanding.
Description of Work: Anderson Plumbing and Heating installed new duct work/returns in our home as the previous owners installed a new larger furnace, but did not upgrade the duct work to be compatible with the increased performance. Our home is 2 levels and would not previously heat over 70 degrees. The technician totally reworked the duct work as the previous space was not large enough to accommodate the new ducts and to balance the flow of air. We now have an even flow of heat in all areas of our home-and our electricity bill is actually less than when we were constantly chilly.

Their fellow was real professional and explained everything. We talked about different options. We were on a coupon so I think he gave us an extra discount based on the coupon beyond what you would have expected to give. Anderson's itself called within a few days of the service and asked how everything had gone, so the follow up from the main company I thought was pretty professional. Very disappointing experience. I had made an appointment for a free service call (listed as $42 value) as an Angie's List member using this company for the first time and told them that I needed help removing a stubborn bathtub faucet spout as I was afraid I might break something doing it on my own. At no time was anything said that any actual service provided would be in addition to the service call price, and I presumed a simple removal of a spout (presuming there were no complications) would be included in the basic service call. Service person arrived nearly two hours after the four-hour appointment window ended, and said the price to remove the spout would be at least $261. I was shocked at the price for a job I thought might take him as little as one minute and told him I thought that a basic effort to remove the spout was included in the service call--but obviously I had misunderstood as that was not the case. He did also look at a shower head that had a very slight leak, showed me where there was some mineral deposit, and advised it was such a minor leak that it didn't merit repair--which I think was good advice. The service person was very pleasant and professional, but I certainly did not want to pay nearly $300 for what probably would have been a very quick job and will arrange to have it done by someone else.
Description of Work: Assigned plumber made a service call (appointment window was 1-5; he arrived at 6:50) and provided $261 price to remove a bathtub spout. As I thought that was included in the $42 service call price, I declined the service.

First of all I can understand why you would be upset if we gave you a window of 1-5 and we showed up at nearly two hours later than the given time frame. I just checked our records. The second mistake we made is we didn’t make our traditional “happy check” call to make sure you were satisfied with your service. It is also clear that we need to do a better job of communicating what a service call does and doesn’t include. We try our best to provide service that will “WOW” you every time…but in this case it is clear we fell short. I want to thank you so much for the feedback. I will use it to make sure we get better at what we do. In fact I am so appreciative of the feed back that if you will call my office and talk to me directly (619-449-3852) I will arrange to have your “stubborn bathroom faucet spout” removed for free. Thanks again. Mary Jean Anderson
