It turned out to be more complicated than expected but James was patient and a good troubleshooter. He called the manufacturer of the cartridge for clearer instructions. In the end he was able to install the new cartridge and stop the leaking. I was pleased with the service.

The supply side line to a toilet developed a bad leak. I had to turn the water off to the house. I chose Anderson plumbing because of the "A" rating in Angie's list. The service person was prompt, courteous and professional; he did a very good job. He told me what needed to be done and then told me they had a flat rate charge of $368 for this type of work. I thought this job would cost about $75-$150 and was shocked but since we had no water I felt I had little choice but to accept the cost. The plumber did the work in less than 30 minutes. That comes out to over $700 an hour. Perhaps flat rate charges work for those who have very difficult problems, but I feel I was totally taken advantage of with a huge cost for a simple job. I take responsibility that I agreed to the cost; I was over the proverbial barrel. I will never use this company again and recommend to not use them in an emergency or urgency so you can cost compare with companies that have a fair pricing structure.

Response from Anderson Plumbing Heating & Air
Our goal is to make sure that every customer is MORE than satisfied. I would like to first thank you for ranking us an "A" on Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality, and Professionalism, and for recognizing that “The service person was prompt, courteous and professional; he did a very good job.” This is truly very valuable to me and I thank you again for pointing this out. You are correct; we have flat rate pricing by level, we do not charge by the hour or have any type of “hourly rate.” We quote one price and no matter what happens, we will do the job for that price. It benefits the customer since everyone works at a different pace. One technician may be able to do a job in 2 hours and another, just as good, but works at a slower rate would do it in 4 hours. We have taken 15 years of experience and identified an average cost per specific repair. This is fair to the customer since you will know exactly what the job costs up front, no surprises!!! It also protects the customer. If the technicians come into your home without a price book, they can charge you whatever they want. It has been known to happen with other companies, they would look at your house or the car parked in the driveway and charge you accordingly. With our pricing technicians can't cheat. We are by far not the most expensive company out there. This is comparing our company to those that provide equal service, warranties, parts, insurance, etc. We cannot compete with handymen who work out of their garage, don't have insurance and no warranties. We have been in business for over 35 years and if something goes wrong, we are here 24/7, always with a live person answering the phone so we can get a technician dispatched promptly. If for any reason our installation fails, we pay for any and all damages. We carry 2 million in liability insurance. We carry thousands of parts on our trucks from job to job so that we fix your problem right then and there. No need for a second visit since we carry all of those parts for your convenience. Carrying all of those parts has a cost, and we only get 8-10 miles per gallon due to the weight. I pay our technicians well. This way I always retain the best. They are all real plumbers, not drain jockeys. They touch germs that doctors don't even touch, they deserve their pay. They don't job hop and so I retain the best of the best. We do a criminal background checks, check the pedophile registry, drug test and do a personality profile before we hire. 3 of the top 5 trades taught in prison are plumbing and HVAC. Don't forget workers comp, health insurance, paid vacation, 20 incoming lines, utilities, truck maintenance, uniforms, training and much more. Thank you Angie’s List for allowing me the opportunity to respond. Mary Jean Anderson President/Owner

I purchased a Big Deal for $89 for a 22-point Furnace Tune-up AND a 22-point Spring A/C Tune-up! When he came out the AC was working fine, we just wanted a preventative maintenance. He suggested replacing a part that was about to go out to make it work better for an additional 100. We went ahead and did it because we did not want to add the service call fee later on. The AC is still working properly, no better, no worse.

I have a tricky old system (1981), and they diagnosed it in a way that required new parts (unnecessary?) and only solved the problem for a few months, and it died again. I finally got another guy who understood it better, fixed it for $ 275, and it's been running well since. The folks from Anderson were friendly and professional, and i don't think they were erring on the side of expensive so much as I think they missed the diagnosis on a tricky problem.

What I realized when I called them is that my house is older and the unit needs to be replaced. I understood that it could be a possible future danger for carbon minoxide, so I asked them for an estimate on a new unit. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend. I am getting a refund through Angie's List for this deal.

I was initially very impressed with Anderson Heating and Air Conditioning. They came out to clean my clogged drain and attempted to do so for nearly 2 hours. Though the drain remained clogged but I was NOT charged!!! (the tech said he did not do what he was sent out for i.e. unclog the drain so he could not in good faith charge me. They sent out a second tech to scope the drain who determined that the pipe was broken. Again I was not charged for this service, this time because I was not quoted a price for the scoping. However, I was quoted $4200 to dig the pipe up and repair it. I could not afford this so I called another company for a second quote (one that scoped the pipes before we bought the place two months prior). They came out scoped the pipe, hydro jetted, scoped again, hydro jetted, etc. Finally they broke through, turns out this pipe simply had a significant blockage, final bill was $400. I have to give Anderson Heating and Air credit for their attempt and customer service i.e. not charging me but I have to ding them big time for their diagnosis. Pipes don't simply have a catastrophic failure one day, if I had gone ahead with the job I would have ended up with a $4200 hole in my front yard. I think more could have been done to provide a more accurate diagnosis.

Cable TV installer stepped on a water pipe in the attic and it burst. Called Anderson plumbing and they arrived within 4 hrs to assess the damage for free (for Angie's list customers), then promptly gave an upfront price quote for the job and finished the work in 10 minutes. The service guy, Mitch, was professional and represented the company well. The only down side to Anderson is they were very expensive but quality service/work.

We've been using Dale Anderson for a good number of years now. He is dependable, honest, courteous, and knowledgeable. Over the years we've used other plumbers and as the case with many of them, I sometimes felt something was just not right. A number of times we would have to call them back in order for them to complete the job the right way. We did have one other plumber who we were very pleased with however he moved out of state years ago. Also, while Dale is at our home, we have no problem at all stepping out for shopping, running errands, etc. On this day, Saturday, March 15, 2013, as I mentioned earlier, I requested Dale to flush out our tank-less water heater, put in a new faucet and sprayer in the kitchen, increase the water temperature in our master bath, move one of our outside hose connectors or spigots to a more accessible area, and while he was there, to also just take care of a few other annoying issues we were having with plumbing. He took care of everything we hoped for and cleaned up like he had never been there. We will be utilizing Dale's skills again in the very near future when he installs a soft-water system in our home. I would recommend Mr. Anderson anytime a professional, no-nonsense plumber is needed who will complete the work the right way the first time. And Oh yes, he smells good too.

I purchased a Big Deal for our rental property because I have had to have the main line hydrojetted twice in the past because of tree roots. The last plumber said I definitely had a crack in the pipe. The appointment was easily made via email. My only complaint about the Big Deal is that it says it is for "video inspection of all the drains in your home for only $125." Not being that savvy about what constitutes a drain, I thought it might also mean inspection of toilet drains, shower drains, etc. They told me it was for the "main line" or "wherever there is a clean out." I think the Big Deals should be more explanatory for use dummies. A very professional and kind gentleman showed up on time, videoed the main line and showed me where there is a large crack in the pipe under the concrete in the garage. He then took an instrument that looked like it worked via sonar over the concrete in the garage and marked a spot with an "X" with painter's tape. He said that is where the crack is. He showed me how the pipe turned from the clean out to where the crack is to where it meets with the sewer. They gave me a DVD of the inspection. He gave me an estimate. I ended up getting four bids, and Anderson was the highest. I ultimately went with another company to do the work.

We decided to tough out this winter and do a replacement next year, but we appreciated his thoroughness and informing us of our options. We also appreciate that he didn't just disable our 50+ year old heating system, but warned us that it might happen. Plus Javier was a really nice guy!
Description of Work: Technician came to inspect our ancient heating system and discuss the options of repair vs. replacement. Offered an incredibly reasonable quote, which they guarantee for installment of new system in new location. Technician did some testing on our old geezer system and warned that he would need to do further testing to ensure it was safe, and that if it was deemed unsafe, he would have to red tag the unit and cut the cord.
