I called him and he came over within the hour to replace a bad flood light. Upon completion, he charged me $200 for about 15-20 min of work. He said it was his "daily minimum," which he made no mention of prior to completing the work or over the phone. If he had given me a heads up that he has a 4 HOUR daily minimum, I would have either hired someone else or at least had other work completed at the same time. Will not be calling back again. To add insult to injury, he didn't even adjust the light fixtures as they were previously. Even though I mentioned it while he was still working on it. He left them facing the ground so I had to grab a ladder after he left and do it myself. Not a big deal, but pretty annoying when you're being charged $200 for 20 min of work.
Description of Work: I needed to have outdoor flood lights replaced.

I don't hide my rates. If he was concerned about how much the job was going to cost he should have asked me. I promptly went over to his house immediately to take care of his needs. I have insurance, vehicles costs, gas, etc. I have to pay for to stay in business and so I have to have a minimum charge. You get my best rate when you hire me for a full day, but I'll do small jobs if that's what you require, but it's not as cost effective for you or me to drive all the way to just do a 20 min job. Most of my regular customers keep a list and they call me when the list gets big enough.

That was a fiasco. The budget was $800 and he charged $50 an hour just for labor. We didn’t get along because we didn’t want to pay that much. So he did $800 of work so he just skinned the color. I ended up hiring another handyman who had to come in and fix the mess Donald had done. He wasn’t very good. He told me that if I wanted a better job, I should have paid $1200 which he had initially quoted. He was prompt but his work was not good. I cannot pay $1200 for the labor of a small bathroom.
Description of Work: He did the three quarter bath. That wasn’t for the sink and shelves. He didn’t finish the work. He just had to put the sink together, put a mirror and lighting. He didn’t put the shelving.

I only worked for this customer once but I guess she decided to leave 2 bad reviews for me. Her complaints all revolve around the fact that she didn't budget enough money to finish the job properly. I could't do the job for the amount she budgeted and I told her that before I started the job. I told her I'd do the job on an hourly basis and once I hit her budget she stopped paying me and so I left. It's funny that she stopped paying me because she said she ran out of money, but she had enough money to hire someone else to come in and finish the work. Go figure...

I saw him in the growing list from March. He came out and I told him what I wanted him to do and what my budget was. He was a little pricey, but that was okay because I found him on Angie's List so I thought he would be okay. He did a terrible job painting. He put in a pedestal sink but didn't put a cap where the pipes meet the wall. He did a poor job painting the ceiling. He wasn't very ethical. He didn't care and he didn't listen. We bought a door and he painted it, but you can see where he should have put on a second coat. If he had done a good job the price would have been worth what I paid.
Description of Work: He painted and installed a new pedestal sink.

Response from Donald, the Amazing Handyman
I told her the cost to remodel her bathroom would be $1200 which is a very good price for a bathroom remodel. She got no competitive bids and so had no way to accurately gauge how much a job like this should cost. She said she could only afford $900. I recommended we do it on an hourly basis and once we reached her $900 budget figure, we'd determine what to do from there. Maybe we'd be surprised and things would go quicker than envisioned. However once we hit her $900, there was still about a days worth of work to do, just like I originally thought. I've been doing this for 25 years and I know how long things usually take. I told her I was still willing to complete her bathroom for $1200, but she decided she didn't want to spend anymore money. So her complaints about the work I did on her bathroom aren't criticisms of my workmanship, because I do excellent work, they are just things I wasn't able to complete because she didn't want to spend anymore on the remodel. The door needed 2 coats, but I only was able to do one; her ceiling also needed 2 coats, but she didn't want to pay me to do the 2nd coat. I didn't put the beauty rings around her plumbing pipes because she stopped paying me. It is unfortunate when people misrepresent the facts and leave out information in order to justify their own actions and make another look bad, but I guess there are all types of people out there. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to complete the job for her, but I do nice work and expect to be fairly compensated for the work I do. I'm not out to take advantage of anyone and do each job as if I were working on my own house. She's a nice lady and I hope she is able to find someone to do a good job for her. :-)

We have used Donald's company. He is quickly available. He is able to do a variety of jobs. He doesn't make you wait a long while. He fixed a door that had been opened by the firemen. He offers repair of damages by movers, furniture assembly and repairs, fixing metal and plastics, and more. They are environmentally conscious. He seems to be very knowledgeable. I will use him in the future.
