Response from Strong Built Construction
I'm sorry we missed your phone call. I try to promptly answer each call we receive and have every customer notice we value their time and that I'm happy to discuss their project. I return hundreds of phone calls a year and write many estimates, and to even miss one phone call or be late on any estimate is disappointing to myself as well as the customer. Thank you for your inquiry, I appreciate you giving us a chance to earn your business and I'm sorry I missed out on the chance to be of service to you.

Description of Work: Positives: Estimates are accurate, work is done well, everyday our home was left cleaned and vacuumed prior to leaving, very friendly team. Would definitely use them again! | |Negatives: Runs about an hour late on average. After we figured this part out, we knew what to expect.

They were recommended by Angie’s list when I called. We used them to do the job that we needed, and we were very satisfied with that. I just called and he came over today and we have another work that we like him to do. He had to straighten out a wall, a stud had worked in, and so he had to go in and trim back one stud and build out another one. Then he put some more sheet rock fill in to go along with texture of the whole wall. He was very prompt; he got here when he said he would. At one point he couldn’t make it he called to make sure that we will be alright instead of leaving us high and dry. He came with an assistant and when they came they put plastic and runners on the ground, in the couple of rooms and up the stairs so that there would be no mess. They always wore the covers for their shoes. They were very clean, and cleaned up afterwards. He came back to make sure everything was alright before I paid for it.

We were in need a few small maintenance jobs and a partial bath remodel and found Strong Built on Angie's List. And we're so glad we did. Andrew and Martin fixed two leaky sinks, installed a dishwasher and microwave (that required a change to the electrical panel). The bath remodel included replacing a vanity, vanity top, sink fixtures and plumbing, mirror. They also moved an electrical outlet, installed recessed lighting, and installed a recessed cabinet. The bathroom looks great! The work was done in a timely manner with a lot of attention to detail, and they were very concientious about clean-up. I had a great experience and appreciated the quality service at a reasonable price. I hope to do more maintenance and improvements and won't hesitate to contact Strong Built in the future.

Andrew and his team are outstanding. Very professional, very knowledgeable. The finished product looks outstanding, they laid a new concrete slab, built new walls, insulation, drywall, texture, plumbing, gas, moved the water heater, recessed lighting, cabinet, new floor tiles, etc. They were present for all 4 inspections from the city. The new laundry room is beautiful, it is over twice as large as the original and I can now walk in the door and take several steps to the washer and dryer. Also very important, I can trust Andrew and their team. I have no problem leaving the home vacant when they are working, this is vital to me. Andrew is a nice guy and a great contractor. We will definitely use him again in the future for a kitchen remodel. Try him out, you will see.
Description of Work: Strongbuilt Construction completed a laundry addition, adding about 5 feet of extra depth. Our previous laundry room was so small that the doors barely cleared the washer and dryer, it was a major fire hazard.

I had all of the supplies purchased and Andrew picked up the the paint, the tile, the vanity and the marble vanity top for me. this was very helpful since I do not have a truck. The job went fairly smoothly with only one major delay. the marble vanity top was accidentally broken by the crew and Andrew had no issues with replacing it at his cost. However he dropped the ball following up with the marble supplier, they were waiting to hear from him and he had given them the feedback they were looking for but it never got to the right person. so the marble supplier was waiting to hear from Andrew and Andrew was waiting to hear from them. I had to call after a 2 week delay to get it straightened out. Andrew apoligized. There has been a problem with the tub installation, which was installed 1/8" lower toward the back wall of the tub enclosure. This made the water pool along the backwall after a shower instead of draining into the tub. Andrew returned and tried to raise the tub slightly but could not do that without removing the first row of tiles. We decided to have some material added to the corners of the tub where the pooling was the greatest. I was skeptical, but this has worked out fairly well. You cannot see where the new material was added and the pooling has been minimized. Andrew took care of this at his cost. Overall I highly recommend Andrew and his crew. I actually have recommended him to my boss for his very similar bathroom addition and from all reports his went equally well.
Description of Work: I chose Strong Built to remodel a small (5' X 9.5') hall bathroom. I selected and paid for all of the fixtures, tile, tub, vanity, paint etc. Andrew and Marvin demo'd the room down to the studs and did all of the installation. The bathroom is beautiful and I am very happy with the results. The tile work is execllent, they even made sure that the tub face matched the pattern on the floor.

Response from Strong Built Construction
I was happy to work with the owner and remodel her bathroom. As she stated everything went smooth until the granite cracked during transport. We usually don't pick up granite due to the specialty racks needed, but her granite contractor would not deliver so I agreed to pick it up. We noticed the crack once on site and without hesitation handpicked and purchased a new slab. I then relayed the fabrication information 2 times to the granite company. Each time the secretary assured me it would get done. When they called me to let me know the slab was ready I went to pick it up and they said that they would need another day to finish it. I returned the next day and it was still not ready. They asked me to come back again and I refused. I waited there 2 hours for them to finish it and brought it back for installation. I apologized to the owner for having to wait for the final granite installation, but felt that we went above and beyond to make the situation correct. The member notified me there was some water collecting at the top of the built-in bathtub corners after showering. After inspection I found the bathtub corners were manufactured improperly with a slightly negative slope in the direction of the wall. The tub was installed properly and 2 separate contractors confirmed this, including her handyman. I then hired a specialty refinisher to slope the tub corners and paid for the service without asking for any reimbursement. I was a bit surprised to read the overall review and grading. I thought we did an excellent job paying attention to details and taking care of both the issues. The contracted price for her custom bathroom was highly competitive, I’m not sure what it’s being compared to. I’d be happy to work with the member in the future and will continue to provide a highly detailed service.

Andrew and his crew were simply amazing. I had a leaky shower valve that developed into an infiltration issue in one of my bedrooms that shared a wall with the shower as well as some rain damage from a poorly sealed fireplace chimney and Andrew and his crew were able to fix both very quicky, including repainting the areas that were damaged. The entire experience was pretty impressive, from getting a very fast, detailed quote conveniently over email to Andrew being available for multiple phone calls to answer all my questions. Not only were they able to start work they day after we settled on the quote, but Andrew and one of his crew arrived as scheduled promptly at 8am, explained to me again the work that was going to be done, and continued to check in with me and show me progress throughout the entire time it took them to get everything done. They were also extremely flexible and honest when I showed them some paint I still had for the interior walls and told me they would inspect it and remove the paint cost from the estimate if they could still use the paint, which they did. Beyond doing top notch work, on time and on budget, my place was left completely clean after the work was completed and that was a very nice touch. But above all, it was fantastic to finally find a contractor (and crew) that's honest, takes pride in their work and understands that good old customer service is still part of doing business. I will most definitely use Strong Built again for upcoming projects.
Description of Work: Andrew and his crew fixed/replace a leaky shower valve and the infiltration damage it had done to the bedroom wall on the other side of my shower. They also fixed my living room ceiling that had some water damage from a poorly sealed chimney (as well as re-sealing the chimney itself).

Andrew from Strong Built was exceptionally professional. He is an excellent listener and was sure to repeat back all of our requests in order to confirm that his understanding was the same as ours. Andrew is polite, conscientious and very knowledgeable. Being in the service industry myself, I actually learned quite a bit from him (just from observing how he handled our more difficult requests) about comportment and handling oneself with overbearing customers (we were not easy!). Once the work started, Andrew and his team (especially Marvin) were courteous and professional, checking in daily to ensure that we were apprised of the status, and concscientious that they were in our space. There were some hold-ups with the city permits and Andrew responded nimbly by requesting to work longer hours and weekends in order to stay on schedule. In addition, there were some late changes we wanted to make, and Andrew was patient and accomodating in responding to those. Ultimately, the job they did was amazing, and my fiancee and I are just thrilled with the quality of his work. We would highly recommend Strong Built for two reasons primarily: high-quality work and a professional, patient and positive disposition. Thanks, Andrew!

We used Angie's list to review general contractors who specialized in bathroom remodels because we are seeking a reputable contractor. Our main goal was to find a contractor who we can not only trust, but one that takes pride in their workmanship, deliver quality, and superior customer service. After reviewing the many stellar comments on Angie's List, there was no doubt Andrew fit the mold and our expectations. We proceeded to contact Andrew and set up an appointment. To our dissatisfaction, he arrived an hour and 1/2 late to the appointment. After an hour, I called and left him a message. He returned my call stating he had been working and lost track of the time. Understanding issues can arise, the reason was not acceptable without a phone call nor is this the first impression you want to give a prospective customer. Despite the lack of common courtesy to inform us he would be late, we decided he was worth giving another chance and proceed with the appointment. We discussed our bathroom remodel and he gave us good suggestions, helping us modify our initial idea. Considering we meet the Thursday before the July 4th holiday, he agreed to get us a quote by Wednesday. Wednesday came and went, no quote from Andrew. I had emailed him to follow up and received a response from on Friday evening stating he misplaced our information and he would provide a quote the next day. Here it is Sunday, still no word or quote from Andrew. Needless to say, we are very disappointed, especially after reading the many raving reviews. I was hoping we had a winner, and we were confident we would be amongst the satisfied customers on Angie's List. Unfortunately, we are not. The lack of follow through, lack of commitment, lack for the value of other's time and lack of responsiveness has caused great concern and raised many red flags. Because of this, we will not be using his services. In this economic climate, I am pleased to see business is thriving and he is unable to take on new work and clients.

Response from Strong Built Construction
I met with the homeowners on a Thursday to discuss their project and provide them with a bathroom remodeling estimate. Our appointment was scheduled at 5-5:30pm and I arrived closer to 7pm. I always call in advance, even if I'm only 10 minutes behind, but had honestly lost track of time while working. It's not an exciting excuse and I apologized multiple times. I answered their project and design questions and was at their home for nearly an hour. I agreed to send them the estimate on the following Wednesday but was unable to send it until Monday. I spent an hour and a half writing them an itemized estimate that had multiple remodeling options as they requested. I gladly spent a total of 3.25 hours on their project. I greatly value my clients' time and sometimes it's easy to forget the amount of time a contractor puts into an estimate. I am a highly responsible contractor and work very hard to make my clients happy. I apologize that they had to be patient with the estimate, but an F rating is very severe for somebody that has spent time on a project without doing any contracted work.

We were quite pleased with our overall experience. Andrew was very attentive and kind. He listened to all of our ideas and advised us as necessary. He was very trustworthy, honest and reliable. He arrived when he said he would , and any questions or concerns were addressed in a timely manner. We were very impressed with his skill as well as the skill of his employees, and we are very happy with the way our house turned out. We would definitely recommend Strong Built Construction to anyone looking for a reliable contractor.
Description of Work: We had the kitchen and bathroom in our new home re-modeled, the kitchen needed all the cabinets and appliances removed and new ones installed. New lighting was installed as well as sink, garbage disposal, new tile floor with plywood under it. New cat doors were installed, the kitchen was painted inside. Also, the cabinet installation involved a whole new soffit being created. New door handles were put on. The bathroom needed the sink/vanity replaced, as well as a linen cabinet installed and some mirrored medicine chests installed. A new tile floor was also installed as well as molding around the bottom of the wall. New lighting and a ceiling fan were also installed. New towel bars and hooks were also installed. We needed a small amount of foundation work done under the house as well.

Andrew showed up when he said he would, did what he said he was going to do, and there were no surprise costs in the final invoice. What more could you ask for? I love my new bathroom! I will definitely call Andrew again because I've got LOTS of ideas for other work to be done!
Description of Work: For my small bathroom, Andrew put in a new ceramic tile floor, replaced the sink with a vanity (he even picked up my vanity top for me while I was at work!), replaced the toilet, installed fan and lights, framed out a new medicine cabinet, hung a new wall cabinet, put up all of the requisite hardware, and painted. It's really cute!

After checking with a lot of people we decided to use Andrew's service. He explained all the details and provided suggestions/ recommendations for all our questions. He kept us updated and informed us of any changes in the work. He paper work is detailed and prompt, and took care of the entire process in getting the permit for the work done. His workplace is neat and clean at the end of everyday and never messy. He planned his work around all the other repairs going on in our house. Even after the work was completed, he came and fixed some other small repairs/installations that we had. We are very happy with his work and would definitely recommend him to others.
Description of Work: We had to redo the kitchen completely as soon as we purchased our home, so that we could have it ready before we moved in. We had other people also working in the house. This was my first extensive remodel in a very long time. Andrew made sure that I was able to sleep in my own bed every night. He did a great job cleaning up each day. He explained progress and (a few) setbacks; such as, having to replace dry wall after trying to remove wallpaper & our decision to include subfloor to support tile. And the final product looks great and I love it--I feel as if I am showering in a spa!! Thank you, Andrew and crew.

He was particularly careful in not overspending my money. He was conscious of our budget. He gave me good suggestions. He did a nice job and was very reliable. He didn?t charge me any more than he originally quoted. I looked that he had good reviews in Angieslist. He does look very young. His price was very fair. Andrew was fantastics, originally when Andrew came out to visit us and talk to us about our project we weren't thinking about taking down the wall, but during the process of getting additional quotes we decided to take the wall down, and brought Andrew back to look at the updated project. We was really jazzed about the project and what we were thinking about doing. His quote was fantastic, included all the services at a very reasonable rate. We started after 1/1/2011 when the new EPA laws about older homes went into action and he called up and we agreed to split the costs (d*** you EPA). But I am so glad they did, our house was cleaner after he was done then before he started. Andrew is meticulous about keeping his work area clean (FANTASTIC)... He worked very well with our granite contractor and they were able to work out some ideas about getting the dishwasher put in and making up for me buying the wrong kind of stove. When you see slide-in, it really means slide-in and not a free-standing. Andrew saw that and said it shouldn't be a problem to get that accomidated, and sure enought he got it done and it looks fantastic, best mistake I made. His attention to detail is fantastic and putting our backsplash in was going to be a challenge. We got the stone Fire & Ice and it looks amazing, but getting all the stone cut properly and ensuring that it is grouted properly requires a lot of attention and he did a great job. When putting in our Range Hood he ran into some framing issues, and with his background was able to do a little reframing and make the whole thing work. Andrew & his team (mainly Roberto) were fantastic to work with, we already have at least 2 additional projects being scheduled with him and have a few more ideas for others.
Description of Work: We live in a 1941 house that had a 1941 kitchen (we are talking about maybe 10 linnear feet of countertop space, 1 outlet, etc). We had an idea of what we were looking to do for this kitchen remodel, open our kitchen up and add lots of countertop space with plenty of outlets... We wanted to knock down a wall that was between the breakfast knoock (next to the kitchen) and the dining room and add a breakfast bar (lots of countertop space there), put in granite countertops, add some new cabinets, new stove, new sink/faucet, new backsplash, new rangehood and add lots of electrical outlets.

From quotation to clean up, Andrew was professional, and thorough. I had a bit of a poor experience with another contractor on the kitchen remodel; this experience was so much more positive. As a female, I place contractors at the same low level as lawyers (although I have better results with lawyers). Specifically, Andrew took the time to listen to what I wanted done and provided valuable feedback. He never pushed his preference over mine or made me feel like my choice was inferior; he explained the pros and cons to each side. He took the time to explain the process and what I needed to look for when selecting materials (e.g. sound levels on exhaust fans). We incorporated a number of his ideas and I feel like the project was that much better for including his suggestions. Andrew provided a number of possible vendors for fixtures, tiles, lighting, glass, etc. I wasn't expecting this but it's a great service. I used approximately half of his suggested vendors in the end, but I did check them all out and they were all first rate. One of his suggested vendors saved my about 35% in bathroom fixturing. All of the above is important, but was the work top quality? A resounding "YES"; I was very impressed with Andrew's skills; the quality of the work was outstanding. Lastly, Andrew had to deal with my work schedule (as a consultant, I work from home some days or don't work at all), an extended visit from my mother, and an elderly cat who, on the day the shower wall was to be sealed, decided to crawl into the house frame for several hours or, on at least one occasion, threw up on the stairs. He manuevered through all of these obstacles with ease.

We love our new hallway bathroom and new kitchen floor. Andrew is very detailed oriented. When he installs the floor/wall tiles, he would spend a few hours to compute the best layout first. Due to the shape of our tiles, he would settle each tile multiple times to make sure the installation is good. He communicates very well. In the contract, he lists every item very clearly. He listens to us very patiently. It's the first remodeling project we have ever done. So we keep changing our mind in the middle of the project. Andrew always listens to us and gives us constructive good suggestions. This makes the whole remodeling experience very pleasing. Andrew makes sure everything meets our needs. For example, he would mark the locations of the recess lights before drilling the holes. Last but not the least, Andrew is very tidy. At the end of each day, the house is very clean. When he installs the bathtub, he carefully puts a big paper inside the bathtub to protect it. He even helps us clean the paints dropped by the painters from the floor tiles. Overall we have a very good experience working with Andrew. We are still asking him help us with a few small projects, and he's very responsive. We are recommending him to all of our friends now, and we'll definitely hire him again for our master bathroom remodeling in the future.

We love our new kitchen! It was worth every penny. We gave Andrew a key to the house and let him do his work. If we didn't see him during the day we could just send an email and get an answer for any questions by the next morning. It did take a little longer than we had hoped, but most of that was due to my scheduling of the countertop installation and flooring installation and refinishing. We adore Andrew. We've had him work on several other projects including a master bath remodel.
Description of Work: Strong Built Construction demolished the kitchen and an existing wall, installed electrical, gas, plumbing, appliances, tile backsplash, trim, and cabinets. They did everything except the counter tops and flooring. Andrew Lombardi installed our new LED canned lights and hookup for a computer in the kitchen.

Andrew came to our house and listened to all the changes we wanted to make, let us know what changes we had to make to upgrade to current bldg codes, and then provided an estimate for all the work. After a little negotiating, we signed a contract and scheduled the work. Andrew and one other employee did all the work on our kitchen; nothing was subcontracted out. They did a great job with texturing the walls and ceilings; you can't see where the patches were at all. Andrew did an excellent job installing the cabinets & moulings as well. We had a few problems with the cabinets not coming as expected, but Andrew adjusted and made them work. Andrew worked with the city building office several times to get their approval on our new gas line that we needed. Andrew was very good at paying attention to all the little details that made our kitchen turn out so fabulous. We are very pleased with our finished kitchen and plan to use Andrew again to remodel our bathrooms later in the year.

Extremely satisfied with the work performed as well as the open communication during the whole project. Andrew handled all permits and inspections. Project started with complete demolition of existing kitchen down to bare studs and subfloor. Project included removing an island and a 6-inch soffit around the cooking area and relocating the stove and refrigerator to different walls in the room. A small area of dry rot was discovered at the corner of a sliding door and a drain line from the bathroom above the kitchen had to be relocated. Extra charge for that work and a couple of other little fixes that were needed was very reasonable. Kitchen was rewired to current code including changing the overhead lighting. New drywall was installed, textured, and painted. New cabinets were installed throughout the kitchen and all the cabinet and drawer fronts were adjusted to align with each other. Hardwood flooring was installed by Silmar flooring in Pleasanton (contracted separately by us). After the granite counter tops were installed, Andrew installed the tile backsplash. Two previously installed garden windows were framed in, and paint was retouched. Andrew generally arrives towing an enclosed trailer that contains all the tools he needs to do the work properly - that was amazing to me as prior contractors we have used tended to have only a basic set of tools that they used for everything whether they were the right tools or not. This was the fourth, and most intensive remodeling project we have engaged in and the only one where we have nothing but positive comments to make regarding the contractor. We would certainly recommend him to others and hope to use him again in the future.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of kitchen starting with stripping the existing 28 year old kitchen down to bare studs. Strong Built (Andrew Lombardi and an assistant) completed most of work involved from demolition to installing everything but the hardwood floor. Andrew provided reference to cabinet (The Cabinet Center in Pleasanton) and granite fabricator (Best Marble & Granite in San Leandro) as well as a tile source (Bedrosian in Hayward) and an appliance source (Airport Appliance). We did not use Bedrosian because we weren't that thrilled with their selection of field tile, and did not use Airport Appliance because of reviews here on Angie's List and elsewhere. Cabinets, Flooring, Granite counter tops, Appliances, tile for backsplash, and decorative lighting for eating area were purchased separately. The dollar amount given includes only costs for this contractor.

When we first met Andrew we thought he was very young, but soon found out that he was very knowledgeable and professional. We had four contractors over to see the space and give us a bid. Only Andrew and one other contractor submit bids promptly. Andrew's estimate was much lower than the others, and we had a good feeling about him. I checked BBB, confirmed his license and called three references. All of his references were glowing. While we were deciding on materials for the bathroom we had Andrew replace most of our interior doors to see how good his work was. Everything came out great, so we hired him to start work on the bathroom. Our first payment was on June 2, 2009. The project went smoothly until Andrew discovered some framing problems in the ceiling over the shower caused by a previous remodeling. We approved the change order for $150, and Andrew fixed the problem that had caused some of the sheet rock in the sealing to sag. We thought it was just a poor sheet rocking job from the previous remodel. It took a little longer than we had hoped, but everything went smoothly and we love the new bathroom.
Description of Work: Andrew performed the following remodeling work in our master bathroom: demolition; installation of a new custom shower pan, curb and waterproofing; rough plumbing of shower, sink and toilet; rough electrical for new exhaust fan-heater combo, vanity light and recessed lighting over shower area; rough framing/carpentry for pocket door; retexturing of the entire bathroom; tile work for shower and floor with radiant heat; and installation of all fixtures. We paid for the permit and all plumbing, electrical fixtures, vanity base/top, toilet and tile. Andrew’s cost included time to pull permit, materials for pocket door and track, floor heating element and thermostat, paint for door, door casing, baseboard, cement board, insulation, vapor barrier, rough plumbing parts, electrical switches and breakers, framing/flooring lumber, mortar, substrate materials, and grout.

I was needing to finish remodeling my bathroom, which had been started a few months earlier, quickly in order to refinance my condo. Andrew of Strongbuilt Construction was very accommodating in terms of starting and finishing the project quickly, keeping the cost low, and doing quality work. I felt his communication during the project (both listening and speaking) was well done. He kept me thoroughly informed every step of the way and clearly answered any questions or concerns I had. The actual work on the small bathroom was well done. He gave me some design suggestions that turned out really nice and listened to what I wanted done on the project. He was willing to do added work if it came up. His attention to detail and thoughtfulness on the project is greatly appreciated. The end result was a beautiful bathroom which got a higher than expected appraisal value because of the upgrades and quality of work. The appraiser was very impressed with the work. I'm very happy with the entire project and I would recommend Andrew to family and friends. (I've already recommended him to my upstairs neighbor who has a bathroom remodeling project in the works.)

It's never fun to live in your house while remodeling it -- but Andrew did everything he could to make things easier for us! He was always in a cheerful mood when he arrived -- and always cleaned up after himself at the end of the day. He gave very helpful suggestions when hubby and I needed to make a few changes to our original plan (and weren't feeling particularly creative), and always used good quality materials. Even our dogs liked him! We're very happy with our newly updated living space!
Description of Work: We had recessed lighting installed in our kitchen and living room -- which involved removing the kitchen cabinets - then, instillation of insulation and sheetrock (both rooms). We had porcelain tile installed in the kitchen and entry way - and all walls/ceilings painted in the living room, kitchen, entry way and hallway. Andrew then re-installed the kitchen cabinets and replaced the baseboards throughout the entire house.
